창세기 43:16-44:34

 요셉의 형제들은 베냐민과 함께 요셉 앞에 다시 서게 되고, 요셉은 그들에게 극진한 대접을 하였다. 요셉은 베냐민의 자루에 은잔을 넣고 형들을 다시 한번 시험했다. 이에 유다는 자신을 담보로 베냐민을 보내 달라는 간곡한 탄원을 했다.
  
  형제들과의 2차 대면(43:16-43:34)    
 
  1. 요셉은 베냐민이 그들과 함께 있는 것을 보고 자기 집안 일을 맡은 하인에게 '이 사람들을 내 집으로 안내하고 짐승을 잡아 식사를 준비하라. 이들이 정오에 나와 함께 식사할 것이다' 하고 말하였다.
  2. 그래서 그 사람은 요셉이 시키는 대로 그들을 요셉의 집으로 안내하였다.
  3. 그러자 그들은 두려워하며 '지난번 우리 자루에 들어 있던 그 돈 때문에 우리가 여기에 끌려왔다. 그가 우리를 치고 달려들어 우리 나귀들을 빼앗고 우리를 노예로 삼으려고 하는 것이 틀림없다' 하고
  4. 그 집 문 앞에서 요셉의 집안 일을 맡은 하인에게
  5. 말하였다. '우리가 지난번 이 곳에 왔다가 양식을 사가지고
  1. When Joseph saw Benjamin with them, he said to the steward of his house, "Take these men to my house, slaughter an animal and prepare dinner; they are to eat with me at noon."
  2. The man did as Joseph told him and took the men to Joseph's house.
  3. Now the men were frightened when they were taken to his house. They thought, "We were brought here because of the silver that was put back into our sacks the first time. He wants to attack us and overpower us and seize us as slaves and take our donkeys."
  4. So they went up to Joseph's steward and spoke to him at the entrance to the house.
  5. "Please, sir," they said, "we came down here the first time to buy food.
  1. 돌아가는 길에 하룻밤을 보내려고 머문 곳에서 자루를 풀어 보니 우리 돈이 각자의 자루 아구에 그대로 있었습니다. 그래서 우리가 그 돈을 가지고 왔으며
  2. 또 양식을 살 다른 돈도 가지고 왔습니다 우리는 누가 그 돈을 우리 자루에 넣었는지 모릅니다'
  3. 그때 그 하인이 대답하였다 '안심하시오. 두려워하지 마시오. 당신들의 하나님, 곧 당신들 아버지의 하나님이 그 돈을 당신들의 자루에 넣어 주신 것입니다. 나는 이미 당신들의 돈을 받았습니다' 그리고서 그는 시므온을 그들에게 이끌어내고
  4. 그들을 요셉의 집으로 안내하여 그들에게 물을 주어 발을 씻게 하였으며 또 그들의 나귀에게도 먹이를 주었다.
  5. 그들은 거기서 요셉과 함께 식사를 한다는 말을 듣고 요셉이 정오에 도착하면 그에게 줄 선물을 챙겨 놓았다.
  1. But at the place where we stopped for the night we opened our sacks and each of us found his silver--the exact weight--in the mouth of his sack. So we have brought it back with us.
  2. We have also brought additional silver with us to buy food. We don't know who put our silver in our sacks."
  3. "It's all right," he said. "Don't be afraid. Your God, the God of your father, has given you treasure in your sacks; I received your silver." Then he brought Simeon out to them.
  4. The steward took the men into Joseph's house, gave them water to wash their feet and provided fodder for their donkeys.
  5. They prepared their gifts for Joseph's arrival at noon, because they had heard that they were to eat there.
  1. 요셉이 집에 도착하자 그들은 선물을 집 안으로 가지고 가서 그에게 주고 바닥이 엎드려 그 앞에 절하였다.
  2. 요셉이 그들의 안부를 물으며 '너희가 말한 그 노인은 안녕하시냐? 그분이 아직 생존해 계시냐?' 하자
  3. 그들이 '우리 아버지는 지금까지 살아 계시며 평안히 잘 있습니다' 하며 머리를 숙여 절하였다
  4. 요셉은 자기 친동생인 베냐민을 보고 '이 사람이 너희가 나에게 말한 너희 막내 동생이냐?' 하고 묻고 그에게 '하나님이 너에게 은혜 베푸시기를 원한다' 하였다.
  5. 요셉은 자기 동생을 보고 가슴이 미어지는 것 같아서 급히 밖으로 뛰쳐나가 울 곳을 찾다가 자기 안방으로 들어가서 실컷 울었다.
  1. When Joseph came home, they presented to him the gifts they had brought into the house, and they bowed down before him to the ground.
  2. He asked them how they were, and then he said, "How is your aged father you told me about? Is he still living?"
  3. They replied, "Your servant our father is still alive and well." And they bowed low to pay him honor.
  4. As he looked about and saw his brother Benjamin, his own mother's son, he asked, "Is this your youngest brother, the one you told me about?" And he said, "God be gracious to you, my son."
  5. Deeply moved at the sight of his brother, Joseph hurried out and looked for a place to weep. He went into his private room and wept there.
  1. 그리고서 그는 얼굴을 씻고 나와서 정을 억제하고 하인들에게 음식을 차리라고 지시하였다.
  2. 그러자 그들은 요셉과 그 형제들에게 따로따로 상을 차리고 또 거기서 먹는 이집트 사람에게도 상을 따로 차렸는데 이것은 이집트 사람들이 히브리 사람과 함께 먹는 것을 아주 싫어하였기 때문이었다.
  3. 요셉의 형제들을 나이 순으로 요셉을 향해 앉게 하자 그들은 놀라서 서로 쳐다보았다.
  4. 요셉은 자기 식탁에 있는 음식을 그들에게 주었으며 특별히 베냐민에게는 다른 사람보다 다섯 배나 더 주었다. 이렇게 해서 그들은 요셉과 함께 마음껏 먹고 마셨다.
  1. After he had washed his face, he came out and, controlling himself, said, "Serve the food."
  2. They served him by himself, the brothers by themselves, and the Egyptians who ate with him by themselves, because Egyptians could not eat with Hebrews, for that is detestable to Egyptians.
  3. The men had been seated before him in the order of their ages, from the firstborn to the youngest; and they looked at each other in astonishment.
  4. When portions were served to them from Joseph's table, Benjamin's portion was five times as much as anyone else's. So they feasted and drank freely with him.
 
  요셉의 시험과 유다의 탄원(44:1-44:34)    
 
  1. 요셉은 자기 집안 일을 맡은 하인에게 이렇게 지시하였다. '너는 각 사람의 자루에 가져갈 수 있을 만큼 양식을 채우고 각자의 돈도 그 자루에 넣어라
  2. 그리고 제일 막내 동생의 자루에는 내 은잔을 넣고 그의 곡식 값도 함께 넣어 주어라'
  3. 그래서 그는 요셉이 시키는 대로하고 아침 일찍 나귀를 태워 그들을 보냈다.
  4. 그들이 성에서 나가 얼마 가지 않았을 때에 요셉이 자기 하인에게 말하였다 '그 사람들을 급히 뒤쫓아가서 그들에게 어째서 너희가 선을 악으로 갚느냐?
  5. 너희가 무엇 때문에 내 주인이 가지고 술을 마시며 점치는데 사용하는 은잔을 훔쳐 갔느냐? 너희는 정말 악한 짓을 하였다고 말하라'
  1. Now Joseph gave these instructions to the steward of his house: "Fill the men's sacks with as much food as they can carry, and put each man's silver in the mouth of his sack.
  2. Then put my cup, the silver one, in the mouth of the youngest one's sack, along with the silver for his grain." And he did as Joseph said.
  3. As morning dawned, the men were sent on their way with their donkeys.
  4. They had not gone far from the city when Joseph said to his steward, "Go after those men at once, and when you catch up with them, say to them, 'Why have you repaid good with evil?
  5. Isn't this the cup my master drinks from and also uses for divination? This is a wicked thing you have done.' "
  1. 그 하인이 그들을 뒤쫓아가서 그대로 말하자
  2. 그들이 이렇게 대답하였다. '어째서 이런 말씀을 하십니까? 우리는 절대로 그런 짓을 하지 않았습니다.
  3. 우리 자루에 들어 있던 돈도 우리가 가나안 땅에서 당신에게 가져갔는데 무엇때문에 우리가 당신 주인의 집에서 은금을 도둑질하겠습니까?
  4. 우리 중에 누구든지 그것을 가진 자가 발견되면 그를 죽이십시오. 그리고 나머지는 당신의 종이 되겠습니다'
  5. 그때 그는 '좋소. 그렇다면 당신들의 말대로 하겠소. 누가 그 은잔을 훔쳤든지 그 사람만 내 종이 될 것이며 나머지는 아무 죄가 없을 것이오' 하였다.
  1. When he caught up with them, he repeated these words to them.
  2. But they said to him, "Why does my lord say such things? Far be it from your servants to do anything like that!
  3. We even brought back to you from the land of Canaan the silver we found inside the mouths of our sacks. So why would we steal silver or gold from your master's house?
  4. If any of your servants is found to have it, he will die; and the rest of us will become my lord's slaves."
  5. "Very well, then," he said, "let it be as you say. Whoever is found to have it will become my slave; the rest of you will be free from blame."
  1. 그래서 그들이 각자 자루를 급히 땅에 내려 그것을 풀어 놓자
  2. 그 하인이 장남부터 시작하여 막내 동생에게 이르기까지 나이 순으로 샅샅이 뒤졌는데 그 잔이 베냐민의 자루에서 발견되었다.
  3. 이것을 본 형제들은 옷을 찢고 슬퍼하며 각자 짐을 나귀에 싣고 성으로 되돌아왔다.
  4. 유다와 그의 형제들이 요셉의 집에 이르렀을 때 요셉은 집에 그대로 있었다. 그들이 땅에 엎드려 그 앞에 절하자
  5. 요셉이 그들에게 말하였다. '너희가 어째서 이런 짓을 하였느냐? 나 같은 사람은 점으로 범인을 찾아낼 수 있다는 것을 몰랐느냐?'
  1. Each of them quickly lowered his sack to the ground and opened it.
  2. Then the steward proceeded to search, beginning with the oldest and ending with the youngest. And the cup was found in Benjamin's sack.
  3. At this, they tore their clothes. Then they all loaded their donkeys and returned to the city.
  4. Joseph was still in the house when Judah and his brothers came in, and they threw themselves to the ground before him.
  5. Joseph said to them, "What is this you have done? Don't you know that a man like me can find things out by divination?"
  1. 이때 유다가 대답하였다 '우리가 총리께 무슨 말을 할 수 있겠습니까? 우리가 무슨 변명을 하며 어떻게 우리의 무죄를 입증할 수 있겠습니까? 하나님이 우리 죄를 드러내셨으니 이제 우리와 이 잔이 발견된 자가 다 당신의 종이 되겠습니다'
  2. 그러자 요셉이 '내가 그렇게 하지 않겠다. 잔을 훔쳐 간 자만 내 종이 될 것이며 너희는 너희 아버지에게 평안히 돌아가거라' 하자
  3. 유다가 그에게 가까이 가서 말하였다. '총리께 한 말씀만 드리겠습니다. 제발 저에게 노하지 마십시오. 총리께서는 왕과 다름이 없습니다.
  4. 전에 총리께서 우리에게 너희는 아버지나 다른 형제가 있느냐? 하고 물으셨습니다.
  5. 그래서 우리가 우리에게는 나이 많은 아버지가 계시고 또 아버지가 노년에 낳은 어린 동생이 있는데 그의 형은 죽었고 그의 어머니가 낳은 아들 중에서 그만 남았으므로 아버지가 그를 무척 사랑합니다 하고 대답하였습니다.
  1. "What can we say to my lord?" Judah replied. "What can we say? How can we prove our innocence? God has uncovered your servants' guilt. We are now my lord's slaves--we ourselves and the one who was found to have the cup."
  2. But Joseph said, "Far be it from me to do such a thing! Only the man who was found to have the cup will become my slave. The rest of you, go back to your father in peace."
  3. Then Judah went up to him and said: "Please, my lord, let your servant speak a word to my lord. Do not be angry with your servant, though you are equal to Pharaoh himself.
  4. My lord asked his servants, 'Do you have a father or a brother?'
  5. And we answered, 'We have an aged father, and there is a young son born to him in his old age. His brother is dead, and he is the only one of his mother's sons left, and his father loves him.'
  1. 그때 총리께서는 우리에게 그 아이를 데리고 와서 대면하게 하라고 하셨으므로
  2. 우리는 그 아이가 아버지를 떠날 수 없으며 만일 떠나게 되면 아버지가 죽게 될 것이라고 대답하였습니다.
  3. 그러나 총리께서는 우리에게 너희 막내 동생을 데려오지 않으면 너희가 다시는 나를 보지 못할 것이다 라고 하셨습니다.
  4. 그래서 우리가 우리 아버지에게 돌아가서 총리에서 하신 말씀을 그대로 전했습니다.
  5. 그 후에 우리 아버지가 다시 가서 양식을 좀 사오라고 하셨을 때
  1. "Then you said to your servants, 'Bring him down to me so I can see him for myself.'
  2. And we said to my lord, 'The boy cannot leave his father; if he leaves him, his father will die.'
  3. But you told your servants, 'Unless your youngest brother comes down with you, you will not see my face again.'
  4. When we went back to your servant my father, we told him what my lord had said.
  5. "Then our father said, 'Go back and buy a little more food.'
  1. 우리가 이렇게 대답하였습니다. 우리가 내려갈 수 없습니다. 막내 동생을 우리와 함께 가게 해 주시면 우리가 내려가겠습니다. 그러나 막내 동생과 함에 가지 않으면 우리는 그 사람을 볼 수가 없습니다.
  2. 그때 아버지께서 이렇게 말씀하셨습니다. 너희도 알겠지만 내 아내 라헬은 나에게 두 아들만 낳아 주었다.
  3. 그런데 하나는 나를 떠났으니 맹수에게 찢겨 죽은 것이 틀림없다. 그때 이 후로 내가 아직 그를 보지 못했는데
  4. 너희가 이 아이마저 내게서 뺏어 가려고 하는구나! 만일 그에게 무슨 일이 일어나게 되면 너희는 백발이 된 나를 슬픔 가운데서 무덤으로 내려보내는 자들이 될 것이다.
  5. 아버지의 생명이 이 아이에게 달려 있는데 우리가 아버지에게 돌아갈 때 만일 이 아이가 우리와 같이 가지 않으면
  1. But we said, 'We cannot go down. Only if our youngest brother is with us will we go. We cannot see the man's face unless our youngest brother is with us.'
  2. "Your servant my father said to us, 'You know that my wife bore me two sons.
  3. One of them went away from me, and I said, "He has surely been torn to pieces." And I have not seen him since.
  4. If you take this one from me too and harm comes to him, you will bring my gray head down to the grave in misery.'
  5. "So now, if the boy is not with us when I go back to your servant my father and if my father, whose life is closely bound up with the boy's life,
  1. 아이가 없는 것을 보고 아버지가 죽게 될 것입니다. 이렇게 되면 백발이 된 아버지를 우리가 죽이는 셈이 됩니다.
  2. 게다가 나는 아버지에게 목숨을 걸고 이 아이의 안전을 보장하며 만일 이 아이를 아버지에게 데리고 돌아오지 않으면 내가 평생 동안 그 죄의 댓가를 치르겠습니다 하고 약속했습니다.
  3. 이 아이 대신 내가 총리의 종이 되어 여기에 머물러 있겠습니다. 그러니 제발 이 아이는 형제들과 함께 돌아가게 해 주십시오.
  4. 내가 아이를 데리고 가지 않고 어떻게 아버지에게 돌아갈 수 있겠습니까? 아버지에게 불행한 일이 닥치는 것을 내가 차마 볼 수 없습니다'
  1. sees that the boy isn't there, he will die. Your servants will bring the gray head of our father down to the grave in sorrow.
  2. Your servant guaranteed the boy's safety to my father. I said, 'If I do not bring him back to you, I will bear the blame before you, my father, all my life!'
  3. "Now then, please let your servant remain here as my lord's slave in place of the boy, and let the boy return with his brothers.
  4. How can I go back to my father if the boy is not with me? No! Do not let me see the misery that would come upon my father."
