여호수아 23:1-24:33

 여호수아는 두 차례에 걸친 고별 설교를 통해 순종과 불순종의 결과를 제시하며 오직 하나님만 섬길 것을 백성들에게 권면했다. 과거의 역사를 회고하며 이스라엘을 위하여 역사하신 하나님을 섬기든지 이방 신을 섬기든지 둘 중의 하나를 택하라고 했다. 이에 백성들은 오직 하나님만을 섬길 것을 결의했다. 여호수아는 하나님과의 언약을 새롭게 한 후 죽었다.
  
  여호수아의 유언(23:1-23:16)    
 
  1. 여호와께서 이스라엘 백성에게 그 주변 일대의 모든 적들을 물리치게 하시고 평안을 주신 지도 오랜 세월이 지났으며 이제 여호수아도 많이 늙었다.
  2. 그래서 그는 장로들과 지도자들과 재판관들과 사무원들을 포함한 모든 이스라엘 백성을 불러 놓고 이렇게 말하였다. '이제 나는 많이 늙었습니다.
  3. 여러분은 여호와 하나님이 이 모든 나라에 행하신 일을 보아 알겠지만 여러분의 하나님 여호와께서는 여러분을 위해 싸우신 분이십니다.
  4. 보십시오. 내가 동쪽으로 요단강에서부터 서쪽으로 지중해에 이르기까지 이미 정복한 땅은 물론, 아직 정복하지 않은 땅까지 다 여러분에게 제비 뽑아 나누어 주었습니다.
  5. 그리고 여러분의 하나님 여호와께서는 약속하신 대로 남아 있는 자들을 모조리 쫓아내고 대신 여러분이 그 땅에 살 수 있도록 하실 것입니다.
  1. And it came to pass a long time after that the LORD had given rest unto Israel from all their enemies round about, that Joshua waxed old and stricken in age.
  2. And Joshua called for all Israel, and for their elders, and for their heads, and for their judges, and for their officers, and said unto them, I am old and stricken in age:
  3. And ye have seen all that the LORD your God hath done unto all these nations because of you; for the LORD your God is he that hath fought for you.
  4. Behold, I have divided unto you by lot these nations that remain, to be an inheritance for your tribes, from Jordan, with all the nations that I have cut off, even unto the great sea westward.
  5. And the LORD your God, he shall expel them from before you, and drive them from out of your sight; and ye shall possess their land, as the LORD your God hath promised unto you.
  1. 그러므로 여러분은 모세의 율법책에 기록된 모든 것을 힘써 지키고 조금도 거기서 이탈하지 마십시오.
  2. 그리고 여러분은 아직 남아 있는 이방 민족들과 사귀지 말고 그 신들의 이름을 부르거나 그 이름으로 맹세하지 마십시오. 여러분이 그들의 신을 섬기거나 절해서는 안 됩니다.
  3. 지금까지 해 온 대로 여러분은 여러분의 하나님 여호와만 따르고 섬겨야 합니다.
  4. 여호와께서 크고 강한 나라들을 여러분 앞에서 쫓아내셨으므로 지금까지 여러분을 당해 낼 자가 하나도 없었습니다.
  5. 여러분의 하나님 여호와께서 약속하신 대로 여러분을 위해 싸우시기 때문에 앞으로도 여러분은 한 사람이 적군 천 명을 당해 낼 수 있을 것입니다.
  1. Be ye therefore very courageous to keep and to do all that is written in the book of the law of Moses, that ye turn not aside therefrom to the right hand or to the left;
  2. That ye come not among these nations, these that remain among you; neither make mention of the name of their gods, nor cause to swear by them, neither serve them, nor bow yourselves unto them:
  3. But cleave unto the LORD your God, as ye have done unto this day.
  4. For the LORD hath driven out from before you great nations and strong: but as for you, no man hath been able to stand before you unto this day.
  5. One man of you shall chase a thousand: for the LORD your God, he it is that fighteth for you, as he hath promised you.
  1. 그러므로 조심하여 여러분의 하나님 여호와를 사랑하십시오.
  2. 만일 여러분이 그렇게 하지 않고 남아 있는 이방 민족들과 하나가 되며 혼인을 맺고 그들과 교제하면
  3. 여러분의 하나님 여호와께서 이 이방 민족들을 여러분 앞에서 더 이상 쫓아내지 않으실 것입니다. 그래서 그들이 여러분에게 덫이나 함정과 같은 위험스러운 존재가 되고 또 옆구리의 채찍이나 눈의 가시와 같은 고통스러운 존재가 될 것입니다. 이렇게 되면 결국 여러분은 여러분의 하나님 여호와께서 주신 이 좋은 땅에서 한 사람도 살아 남지 못하고 완전히 멸망하게 될 것입니다.
  4. 이제 나는 온 세상 사람이 가는 길로 떠날 때가 되었습니다. 여러분은 여호와 하나님이 약속하신 모든 선한 일이 다 이루어진 것을 잘 알고 있습니다.
  5. 그러나 여호와께서는 약속하신 모든 선한 일을 다 이루신 것과 마찬가지로 자기가 말씀하신 재앙도 여러분에게 내리실 것입니다.
  1. Take good heed therefore unto yourselves, that ye love the LORD your God.
  2. Else if ye do in any wise go back, and cleave unto the remnant of these nations, even these that remain among you, and shall make marriages with them, and go in unto them, and they to you:
  3. Know for a certainty that the LORD your God will no more drive out any of these nations from before you; but they shall be snares and traps unto you, and scourges in your sides, and thorns in your eyes, until ye perish from off this good land which the LORD your God hath given you.
  4. And, behold, this day I am going the way of all the earth: and ye know in all your hearts and in all your souls, that not one thing hath failed of all the good things which the LORD your God spake concerning you; all are come to pass unto you, and not one thing hath failed thereof.
  5. Therefore it shall come to pass, that as all good things are come upon you, which the LORD your God promised you; so shall the LORD bring upon you all evil things, until he have destroyed you from off this good land which the LORD your God hath given you.
  1. 만일 여러분이 여호와께서 지키라고 명령하신 계약을 어겨 다른 신들을 섬기고 절하면 그가 노하셔서 여러분을 벌하실 것입니다. 그렇게 되면 여러분은 여호와께서 주신 이 좋은 땅에서 순식간에 망하고 말 것입니다.'
  1. When ye have transgressed the covenant of the LORD your God, which he commanded you, and have gone and served other gods, and bowed yourselves to them; then shall the anger of the LORD be kindled against you, and ye shall perish quickly from off the good land which he hath given unto you.
 
  언약의 갱신(24:1-24:33)    
 
  1. 여호수아가 이스라엘의 모든 지파를 세겜에 모으고 장로들과 지도자들과 재판관들과 사무원들을 불러내자 그들이 하나님 앞으로 나왔다.
  2. 그때 여호수아가 모든 이스라엘 백성에게 말하였다. '이것은 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와의 말씀입니다. 아주 옛날에 너희 조상들은 유프라테스강 동쪽에서 다른 신들을 섬기며 살고 있었는데 그들 중 한 사람이 바로 아브라함과 나홀의 아버지인 데라였다.
  3. 그때 내가 너희 조상 아브라함을 유프라테스강 건너편의 땅에서 이끌어내고 가나안 땅으로 인도하여 그에게 이삭을 통해서 많은 후손을 주었다.
  4. 그리고 이삭에게는 내가 야곱과 에서를 주었으며 에서에게는 세일산 일대의 땅을 주었다. 그러나 야곱과 그 자손들은 이집트로 내려갔다.
  5. 그 후에 내가 모세와 아론을 보내고 또 이집트에 큰 재앙을 내려 거기서 내 백성을 인도해 내었다.
  1. And Joshua gathered all the tribes of Israel to Shechem, and called for the elders of Israel, and for their heads, and for their judges, and for their officers; and they presented themselves before God.
  2. And Joshua said unto all the people, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Your fathers dwelt on the other side of the flood in old time, even Terah, the father of Abraham, and the father of Nachor: and they served other gods.
  3. And I took your father Abraham from the other side of the flood, and led him throughout all the land of Canaan, and multiplied his seed, and gave him Isaac.
  4. And I gave unto Isaac Jacob and Esau: and I gave unto Esau mount Seir, to possess it; but Jacob and his children went down into Egypt.
  5. I sent Moses also and Aaron, and I plagued Egypt, according to that which I did among them: and afterward I brought you out.
  1. 그러나 그들이 홍해에 도착했을 때 이집트군이 전차와 마병을 이끌고 추격해 오자
  2. 너희 조상들은 나에게 부르짖었다. 그래서 내가 그들과 이집트군 사이에 흑암이 생기게 하였고 또 바닷물로 그들을 덮어 모조리 익사하게 하였다. 내가 이집트군에게 행한 이 일은 너희도 잘 알고 있다. 너희는 오랫동안 광야에서 살았는데
  3. 내가 너희를 인도하여 요단강 동쪽에 살던 아모리 사람들의 땅으로 들어가게 하였다. 그들이 너희와 싸웠으나 내가 그들을 너희 손의 넘겨 너희 앞에서 멸망시켰으므로 너희가 그 땅을 점령하였다.
  4. 그때 모압의 왕이었던 십볼의 아들 발락이 이스라엘 군을 대적하고 브올의 아들 발람에게 너희를 저주해 달라고 부탁했으나
  5. 내가 발람의 말을 들으려고 하지 않았기 때문에 그가 오히려 너희에게 축복하였고 나는 너희를 발락의 손에서 구출하였다.
  1. And I brought your fathers out of Egypt: and ye came unto the sea; and the Egyptians pursued after your fathers with chariots and horsemen unto the Red sea.
  2. And when they cried unto the LORD, he put darkness between you and the Egyptians, and brought the sea upon them, and covered them; and your eyes have seen what I have done in Egypt: and ye dwelt in the wilderness a long season.
  3. And I brought you into the land of the Amorites, which dwelt on the other side Jordan; and they fought with you: and I gave them into your hand, that ye might possess their land; and I destroyed them from before you.
  4. Then Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab, arose and warred against Israel, and sent and called Balaam the son of Beor to curse you:
  5. But I would not hearken unto Balaam; therefore he blessed you still: so I delivered you out of his hand.
  1. 그 후 너희가 요단강을 건너 여리고에 도착했을 때 여리고 주민들을 포함한 아모리족, 브리스족, 가나안족, 헷족, 기르가스족, 히위족, 여부스족이
  2. 너희와 싸웠으나 내가 그들을 모두 너희에게 패하게 하였다. 난 너희가 전진할 때 내가 두 아모리 왕과 그 백성들에게 공포심을 일으켜 그들을 너희 앞에서 쫓아내었다. 그러므로 너희가 승리한 것은 너희 칼이나 활로 된 것이 아니다.
  3. 그리고 나는 너희가 경작하지 않은 땅과 너희가 건설하지 않은 성을 너희에게 주었다. 그래서 지금 너희가 이 모든 성에서 살고 있으며 너희가 심지 않은 포도와 감람 열매를 먹고 있는 것이다.
  4. 그러므로 여러분은 여호와를 두려워하며 진실하고 성실하게 섬기십시오. 여러분은 조상들이 메소포타미아와 이집트에서 섬기던 신들을 버리고 오직 여호와만 섬겨야 합니다.
  5. 만일 여러분이 여호와를 섬기고 싶지 않으면, 여러분의 조상이 메소포타미아에서 섬기던 신이든 현재 여러분이 사는 땅의 아모리 사람이 섬기던 신이든 여러분이 섬길 신을 오늘 택하십시오. 나와 내 가족은 여호와를 섬기겠습니다.'
  1. And you went over Jordan, and came unto Jericho: and the men of Jericho fought against you, the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Girgashites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites; and I delivered them into your hand.
  2. And I sent the hornet before you, which drave them out from before you, even the two kings of the Amorites; but not with thy sword, nor with thy bow.
  3. And I have given you a land for which ye did not labour, and cities which ye built not, and ye dwell in them; of the vineyards and oliveyards which ye planted not do ye eat.
  4. Now therefore fear the LORD, and serve him in sincerity and in truth: and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the flood, and in Egypt; and serve ye the LORD.
  5. And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.
  1. 그러자 백성들이 대답하였다. '우리가 여호와를 버리고 다른 신을 섬기는 일은 절대로 없을 것입니다.
  2. 이집트에서 종살이하던 우리 조상들을 구출해 내시고 우리가 보는 가운데서 놀라운 기적을 행하시며 우리가 광야를 지나 여러 나라를 거쳐 오는 동안 우리를 지키시고 모든 대적의 손에서 우리를 보호하신 분이 바로 우리 하나님 여호와이십니다.
  3. 그리고 여호와께서는 이 땅에 살던 아모리 사람을 포함하여 모든 이방 민족들을 우리 앞에서 쫓아내셨습니다. 그러므로 우리도 여호와를 섬기겠습니다. 그분이야말로 우리의 하나님이십니다.'
  4. 그러나 여호수아는 백성들에게 이렇게 말하였다. '여러분은 여호와를 섬기지 못할 것입니다. 그분은 거룩하신 하나님이십니다. 그분은 다른 신을 용납하지 않는 하나님이시기 때문에 여러분의 반역 행위와 죄를 결코 용서하지 않으실 것입니다.
  5. 만일 여러분이 여호와를 버리고 이방 신을 섬기면 지금까지 오랫동안 여러분을 보살펴 주신 분이라고 해도 태도를 바꾸어 여러분을 쳐서 멸망시키실 것입니다.'
  1. And the people answered and said, God forbid that we should forsake the LORD, to serve other gods;
  2. For the LORD our God, he it is that brought us up and our fathers out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage, and which did those great signs in our sight, and preserved us in all the way wherein we went, and among all the people through whom we passed:
  3. And the LORD drave out from before us all the people, even the Amorites which dwelt in the land: therefore will we also serve the LORD; for he is our God.
  4. And Joshua said unto the people, Ye cannot serve the LORD: for he is an holy God; he is a jealous God; he will not forgive your transgressions nor your sins.
  5. If ye forsake the LORD, and serve strange gods, then he will turn and do you hurt, and consume you, after that he hath done you good.
  1. '아닙니다. 우리가 여호와를 꼭 섬기겠습니다.'
  2. '여러분은 지금 여호와를 섬기겠다고 분명히 말했습니다. 이 일에 대한 증인은 바로 여러분 자신들입니다.' '그렇습니다. 바로 우리가 증인입니다.'
  3. '좋습니다. 그렇다면 여러분이 가지고 있는 우상을 모조리 부숴 버리고 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와께 여러분의 충성을 다짐하십시오.'
  4. 그러자 백성들이 '우리는 우리 하나님 여호와를 섬기고 그분의 명령에 절대 복종하겠습니다.' 하고 여호수아에게 대답하였다.
  5. 그래서 여호수아는 그 날 세겜에서 백성들과 계약을 맺고 그들이 지킬 법과 규정을 그들에게 일러 주었다.
  1. And the people said unto Joshua, Nay; but we will serve the LORD.
  2. And Joshua said unto the people, Ye are witnesses against yourselves that ye have chosen you the LORD, to serve him. And they said, We are witnesses.
  3. Now therefore put away, said he, the strange gods which are among you, and incline your heart unto the LORD God of Israel.
  4. And the people said unto Joshua, The LORD our God will we serve, and his voice will we obey.
  5. So Joshua made a covenant with the people that day, and set them a statute and an ordinance in Shechem.
  1. 그리고 여호수아는 이 모든 것을 하나님의 율법책에 기록한 다음 큰 돌 하나를 굴려다가 아브라함이 단을 쌓았던 상수리나무 아래 세우고
  2. 모든 백성에게 말하였다. '보십시오! 이 돌은 우리의 증인입니다. 여호와께서 우리에게 말씀하신 모든 것을 이 돌이 다 들었습니다. 그러므로 여러분이 여호와 하나님을 배반하면 이 돌이 여러분에게 증거가 될 것입니다.'
  3. 그런 다음에 여호수아가 백성들을 돌려보내자 그들은 각자 자기 땅으로 돌아갔다.
  4. 그 후에 여호와의 종, 눈의 아들인 여호수아는 110세를 일기로 세상을 떠났다.
  5. 그래서 백성들은 그를 가아스산 북쪽 에브라임 산간 지대에 있는 그의 소유지 딤낫-세라에 장사하였다.
  1. And Joshua wrote these words in the book of the law of God, and took a great stone, and set it up there under an oak, that was by the sanctuary of the LORD.
  2. And Joshua said unto all the people, Behold, this stone shall be a witness unto us; for it hath heard all the words of the LORD which he spake unto us: it shall be therefore a witness unto you, lest ye deny your God.
  3. So Joshua let the people depart, every man unto his inheritance.
  4. And it came to pass after these things, that Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of the LORD, died, being an hundred and ten years old.
  5. And they buried him in the border of his inheritance in Timnathserah, which is in mount Ephraim, on the north side of the hill of Gaash.
  1. 이스라엘 백성은 여호수아가 사는 날 동안 여호와를 잘 섬겼으며 그 후에도 그들은 여호와께서 이스라엘을 위해 행하신 모든 일을 직접 목격한 장로들이 살아 있는 동안 여호와를 잘 섬겼다.
  2. 그리고 이스라엘 백성은 그들이 이집트에서 가져온 요셉의 유해를 세겜에 묻었다. 이 곳은 야곱이 세겜의 창설자인 하몰의 자손들에게 은화 100개를 주고 산 땅인데 요셉 자손의 소유가 되었다.
  3. 또 아론의 아들 엘르아살도 죽었다. 그래서 백성들은 그의 아들 비느하스가 유산으로 물려받은 에브라임 산간 지대의 기브아에 그를 장사하였다.
  1. And Israel served the LORD all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders that overlived Joshua, and which had known all the works of the LORD, that he had done for Israel.
  2. And the bones of Joseph, which the children of Israel brought up out of Egypt, buried they in Shechem, in a parcel of ground which Jacob bought of the sons of Hamor the father of Shechem for an hundred pieces of silver: and it became the inheritance of the children of Joseph.
  3. And Eleazar the son of Aaron died; and they buried him in a hill that pertained to Phinehas his son, which was given him in mount Ephraim.
