	열왕기하 6:24-8:29 아람군의 포위로 사마리아 성에 극심한 기근과 참상이 있었다. 그러나 엘리사는 사마리아의 회복과 이를 믿지 않고 조롱하는 관리의 죽음을 예언하였고, 결국 그의 예언은 하나님의 전적인 역사로 그대로 성취되었다. 하사엘은 엘리사의 예언대로 아람 왕 벤하닷을 살해하고 왕위에 올랐다. 한편 여호사밧의 뒤를 이은 유다 왕 여호람과 아하시야는 악정을 행하였다.

	아람의 2차 침입(6:24-7:20)

얼마 후에 시리아의 벤-하닷왕이 자기의 전 군대를 이끌고 와서 사마리아 성을 포위하였다.

그 결과 성 안에 식량이 부족하여 당나귀 머리 하나 값이 은 912그램이었고 비둘기 똥 한 홉에 은 약 34그램이었다.

어느 날 이스라엘 왕이 성벽 위로 걸어가자 한 여자가 외쳤다. '임금님, 좀 도와 주세요.'

'여호와께서 도우시지 않으면 어떻게 내가 너를 돕겠느냐? 나에게는 너를 먹일 곡식이나 포도주가 없다.

그런데 무슨 일이냐?' '일전에 이 여자가 하루는 내 아들을 잡아먹고 다음 날은 자기 아들을 잡아먹자고 제의하기에

And it came to pass after this, that Benhadad king of Syria gathered all his host, and went up, and besieged Samaria.

And there was a great famine in Samaria: and, behold, they besieged it, until an ass's head was sold for fourscore pieces of silver, and the fourth part of a cab of dove's dung for five pieces of silver.

And as the king of Israel was passing by upon the wall, there cried a woman unto him, saying, Help, my lord, O king.

And he said, If the LORD do not help thee, whence shall I help thee? out of the barnfloor, or out of the winepress?

And the king said unto her, What aileth thee? And she answered, This woman said unto me, Give thy son, that we may eat him to day, and we will eat my son to morrow.

우리는 먼저 내 아들을 삶아 먹었습니다. 그런데 다음날 내가 이 여자의 애를 잡아먹자고 했으나 이 여자는 자기 아이를 숨겨 버리고 말았습니다.'

왕은 이 말을 듣고 비통한 나머지 자기 옷을 찢었다. 그가 성벽 위로 지나 갈 때 백성들이 그 찢어진 옷 사이를 보니 속에 삼베 옷을 입고 있었다.

그때 왕은 '내가 오늘 사밧의 아들 엘리사의 목을 치지 않으면 하나님이 나를 쳐서 죽이시기를 바란다!' 하고 외쳤다.

그리고서 그는 사람을 보내 엘리사를 데려오라고 명령하였다. 한편 엘리사는 자기 집에서 이스라엘의 장로들과 함께 앉아 이야기를 주고 받고 있었다. 왕이 보낸 사람이 도착하기 전에 엘리사는 장로들에게 이렇게 말하였다. '이 살인자가 나를 죽이려고 사람을 보냈소. 그가 도착하면 당신들은 문을 닫고 그를 안으로 들어오지 못하게 해주시오. 왕이 곧 그를 뒤따라올 것이오.'

엘리사가 미처 말을 끝내기도 전에 왕이 보낸 그 사람이 도착하였고 왕도 곧 그를 뒤따라와서 이렇게 말하였다. '이 재앙은 여호와께서 내리신 것인데 어떻게 내가 여호와의 도움을 기대할 수 있겠는가!'

So we boiled my son, and did eat him: and I said unto her on the next day, Give thy son, that we may eat him: and she hath hid her son.

And it came to pass, when the king heard the words of the woman, that he rent his clothes; and he passed by upon the wall, and the people looked, and, behold, he had sackcloth within upon his flesh.

Then he said, God do so and more also to me, if the head of Elisha the son of Shaphat shall stand on him this day.

But Elisha sat in his house, and the elders sat with him; and the king sent a man from before him: but ere the messenger came to him, he said to the elders, See ye how this son of a murderer hath sent to take away mine head? look, when the messenger cometh, shut the door, and hold him fast at the door: is not the sound of his master's feet behind him?

And while he yet talked with them, behold, the messenger came down unto him: and he said, Behold, this evil is of the LORD; what should I wait for the LORD any longer?

그때 엘리사가 대답하였다. '왕은 여호와의 말씀을 들으십시오. 내일 이맘때에 사마리아 성문에서 가장 좋은 밀가루 약 7리터와 보리 약 15리터가 각각 은 11.4그램에 매매되는 것을 보게 될 것입니다.'

그러자 왕의 보좌관이 엘리사에게 말하였다. '만일 여호와께서 하늘에 창을 내고 곡식을 쏟아 붓는다고 해도 그런 일은 있을 수가 없소.' 그때 엘리사가 '당신은 그것을 직접 목격하게 될 것이지만 그 어느 것도 먹지는 못할 것이오.' 하고 대답하였다.

사마리아 성문 입구에 문둥병자 네 사람이 앉아서 서로 이렇게 말하였다. '무엇 때문에 우리가 여기 앉아서 죽을 때까지 기다려야만 하겠느냐?

우리가 성에 들어가도 굶어 죽고 여기 앉아 있어도 죽을 바에야 차라리 시리아군에게 가서 항복하자. 만일 그들이 우리를 살려 준다면 다행한 일이지만 그렇지 않으면 죽기밖에 더하겠느냐?'

그리고서 그들은 해질 무렵에 일어나 시리아군의 진지로 갔는데 그 곳에 도착해 보니 한 사람도 없었다.

Then Elisha said, Hear ye the word of the LORD; Thus saith the LORD, To morrow about this time shall a measure of fine flour be sold for a shekel, and two measures of barley for a shekel, in the gate of Samaria.

Then a lord on whose hand the king leaned answered the man of God, and said, Behold, if the LORD would make windows in heaven, might this thing be? And he said, Behold, thou shalt see it with thine eyes, but shalt not eat thereof.

And there were four leprous men at the entering in of the gate: and they said one to another, Why sit we here until we die?

If we say, We will enter into the city, then the famine is in the city, and we shall die there: and if we sit still here, we die also. Now therefore come, and let us fall unto the host of the Syrians: if they save us alive, we shall live; and if they kill us, we shall but die.

And they rose up in the twilight, to go unto the camp of the Syrians: and when they were come to the uttermost part of the camp of Syria, behold, there was no man there.

이것은 여호와께서 시리아군에게 요란한 전차 바퀴 소리와 말발굽 소리와 그리고 수많은 군대가 진격하는 소리를 듣게 하셨으므로 시리아군은 이스라엘 왕이 자기들을 치려고 헷 사람과 이집트 사람들을 고용한 것으로 생각하고

당황하여 그들의 천막과 말과 나귀를 진지에 그대로 버려 둔 채 목숨만이라도 건지겠다고 그 날 저녁에 도망하였기 때문이었다.

그래서 그 문둥병자들은 한 천막에 들어가서 먹고 마시고 거기에 있는 은과 금과 의복을 가지고 나와 숨겨 두고 또 다른 천막에 들어가서도 그렇게 하였다.

그러나 그들은 자기들의 소행이 옳지 못한 것을 알고 서로 이렇게 말하였다. '이럴 수는 없어. 좋은 소식을 전해야 할 우리가 이렇게 가만히 있어서야 되겠느냐? 만일 우리가 내일 아침까지 이 소식을 전하지 않고 그대로 있으면 우리가 천벌을 받을 것이다! 자, 가서 왕궁에 이 사실을 보고하자'

그리고서 그들은 성으로 가서 문지기들을 불러 말하였다. '우리가 시리아군의 진지에 가서 보니 아무도 없었고 말과 나귀들만 매여 있었으며 천막들은 고스란히 그대로 있었습니다.'

For the LORD had made the host of the Syrians to hear a noise of chariots, and a noise of horses, even the noise of a great host: and they said one to another, Lo, the king of Israel hath hired against us the kings of the Hittites, and the kings of the Egyptians, to come upon us.

Wherefore they arose and fled in the twilight, and left their tents, and their horses, and their asses, even the camp as it was, and fled for their life.

And when these lepers came to the uttermost part of the camp, they went into one tent, and did eat and drink, and carried thence silver, and gold, and raiment, and went and hid it; and came again, and entered into another tent, and carried thence also, and went and hid it.

Then they said one to another, We do not well: this day is a day of good tidings, and we hold our peace: if we tarry till the morning light, some mischief will come upon us: now therefore come, that we may go and tell the king's household.

So they came and called unto the porter of the city: and they told them, saying, We came to the camp of the Syrians, and, behold, there was no man there, neither voice of man, but horses tied, and asses tied, and the tents as they were.

문지기들이 그 소식을 왕궁에 전하자

왕이 밤 중에 일어나 자기 신하들에게 말하였다. '내가 그대들에게 시리아군의 전략을 말해 주겠다. 그들은 우리가 굶주리고 있다는 것을 알고 지금 자기들의 진지를 떠나 들에 숨어서 우리가 성 밖으로 나가면 우리를 공격하여 생포하고 성 안으로 쳐들어올 계획을 세우고 있다.'

그러자 한 신하가 대답하였다. '성안에 남아 있는 말 다섯 마리와 함께 사람을 보내 시리아군의 진지를 살펴보고 오게 하십시오. 여기 남아 있는다고 해도 이미 죽은 사람들의 처지와 다를 것이 없습니다.'

신하들이 전차 두 대를 준비하고 정찰병을 대기시키자 왕은 그들을 보내며 시리아군의 동태를 살피고 와서 보고하라고 명령하였다.

그래서 그들은 시리아군을 추적하여 요단강까지 갔는데 길에는 그들이 급히 도망하면서 버리고 간 의복과 장비가 여기저기 흩어져 있었다. 그들이 돌아와서 왕에게 사실대로 보고하자

And he called the porters; and they told it to the king's house within.

And the king arose in the night, and said unto his servants, I will now shew you what the Syrians have done to us. They know that we be hungry; therefore are they gone out of the camp to hide themselves in the field, saying, When they come out of the city, we shall catch them alive, and get into the city.

And one of his servants answered and said, Let some take, I pray thee, five of the horses that remain, which are left in the city, (behold, they are as all the multitude of Israel that are left in it: behold, I say, they are even as all the multitude of the Israelites that are consumed:) and let us send and see.

They took therefore two chariot horses; and the king sent after the host of the Syrians, saying, Go and see.

And they went after them unto Jordan: and, lo, all the way was full of garments and vessels, which the Syrians had cast away in their haste. And the messengers returned, and told the king.

사마리아 사람들은 달려 나가서 시리아 진지를 약탈하였다. 그래서 가장 좋은 밀가루 약 7리터와 보리 약 15리터가 여호와의 말씀대로 각각 은 11.4그램에 매매되었다.

이때 왕이 그의 보좌관을 성문에 배치하여 통행 질서를 유지하도록 했으나 그 보좌관은 밀어닥치는 군중들에게 짓밟혀 죽고 말았다. 이것은 엘리사가 왕이 그를 잡으러 왔을 때 예언한 그대로 된 것인데

그때 엘리사는 왕에게 그 다음 날 사마리아 성문에서 가장 좋은 밀가루 약 7리터와 보리 약 15리터가 각각 은 11.4그램에 매매될 것이라고 예언하였다.

그러나 그때 왕의 이 보좌관은 여호와께서 하늘에 창을 내고 곡식을 쏟아 붓는다고 해도 그런 일은 있을 수가 없을 것이라고 대꾸하였다. 그래서 엘리사가 '당신은 그것을 직접 목격하게 될 것이지만 그 어느 것도 먹지는 못할 것이오.' 하고 예언하였다.

그러므로 그는 엘리사가 말한 그대로 성문에서 군중들에게 짓밟혀 죽은 것이다.

And the people went out, and spoiled the tents of the Syrians. So a measure of fine flour was sold for a shekel, and two measures of barley for a shekel, according to the word of the LORD.

And the king appointed the lord on whose hand he leaned to have the charge of the gate: and the people trode upon him in the gate, and he died, as the man of God had said, who spake when the king came down to him.

And it came to pass as the man of God had spoken to the king, saying, Two measures of barley for a shekel, and a measure of fine flour for a shekel, shall be to morrow about this time in the gate of Samaria:

And that lord answered the man of God, and said, Now, behold, if the LORD should make windows in heaven, might such a thing be? And he said, Behold, thou shalt see it with thine eyes, but shalt not eat thereof.

And so it fell out unto him: for the people trode upon him in the gate, and he died.

	수넴 여인의 기업 회복(8:1-8:6)

엘리사는 전에 아들을 살려 준 그 수넴 여자에게 이렇게 말하였다. '당신은 가족과 함께 이 곳을 떠나 다른 나라에 가서 살도록 하시오. 여호와께서는 7년 동안 계속될 기근을 이스라엘 땅에 내리시겠다고 선언하셨소.'

그래서 그 여자는 가족을 데리고 블레셋 사람의 땅으로 가서 7년 동안 살았다.

기근이 끝난 후에 그 여자는 이스라엘로 돌아와 자기 집과 땅을 되찾기 위해 왕에게 호소하러 갔다.

바로 그때 왕은 엘리사의 사환 게하시와 이야기를 하고 있었는데 왕은 엘리사가 행한 기적에 대해서 알고 싶어하였다.

그래서 게하시는 엘리사가 죽은 아이를 살렸던 일을 왕에게 말해 주었다. 바로 이때 그 아이의 어머니가 들어와서 자기 집과 땅을 되찾게 해 달라고 왕에게 호소하였다. 그러자 게하시는 '왕이시여, 이 사람이 바로 그 여자입니다. 그리고 이 아이는 엘리사가 그때 살려 낸 바로 그 여자의 아들입니다.' 하고 외쳤다.

Then spake Elisha unto the woman, whose son he had restored to life, saying, Arise, and go thou and thine household, and sojourn wheresoever thou canst sojourn: for the LORD hath called for a famine; and it shall also come upon the land seven years.

And the woman arose, and did after the saying of the man of God: and she went with her household, and sojourned in the land of the Philistines seven years.

And it came to pass at the seven years' end, that the woman returned out of the land of the Philistines: and she went forth to cry unto the king for her house and for her land.

And the king talked with Gehazi the servant of the man of God, saying, Tell me, I pray thee, all the great things that Elisha hath done.

And it came to pass, as he was telling the king how he had restored a dead body to life, that, behold, the woman, whose son he had restored to life, cried to the king for her house and for her land. And Gehazi said, My lord, O king, this is the woman, and this is her son, whom Elisha restored to life.

그래서 왕은 그 여자에게 물어 보고 그것이 사실임을 확인한 다음 관리 한 사람을 불러 그 여자의 모든 소유를 돌려 주고 그녀가 떠나고 없는 7년 동안에 그녀의 토지에서 생산된 모든 농산물을 계산해 주라고 지시하였다.

And when the king asked the woman, she told him. So the king appointed unto her a certain officer, saying, Restore all that was hers, and all the fruits of the field since the day that she left the land, even until now.

	하사엘의 등극(8:7-8:29)

한번은 엘리사가 다마스커스에 갔는데 그때 시리아 왕 벤-하닷이 병들어 있었다. 왕은 엘리사가 그 곳에 와 있다는 말을 듣고

그의 신하 하사엘에게 말하였다. '너는 선물을 가지고 그 예언자에게 가서 내 병이 나을 것인지 여호와께 좀 물어 봐 달라고 부탁하여라.'

그래서 하사엘은 나귀 6마리에 다마스커스의 가장 좋은 특산물을 잔뜩 싣고 엘리사에게 가서 이렇게 말하였다. '당신의 종 벤-하닷왕이 나를 당신에게 보내며 그의 병이 낫겠는지 물어 오라고 했습니다.'

그래서 엘리사는 그에게 '당신은 왕에게 가서 그 병이 나을 것이라고 말하시오. 그러나 여호와께서는 그가 죽게 될 것을 나에게 보여 주셨소.' 하고 대답하였다.

그리고서 그는 하사엘이 당황할 정도로 그의 얼굴을 뚫어지게 바라보다가 울기 시작하였다.

And Elisha came to Damascus; and Benhadad the king of Syria was sick; and it was told him, saying, The man of God is come hither.

And the king said unto Hazael, Take a present in thine hand, and go, meet the man of God, and enquire of the LORD by him, saying, Shall I recover of this disease?

So Hazael went to meet him, and took a present with him, even of every good thing of Damascus, forty camels' burden, and came and stood before him, and said, Thy son Benhadad king of Syria hath sent me to thee, saying, Shall I recover of this disease?

And Elisha said unto him, Go, say unto him, Thou mayest certainly recover: howbeit the LORD hath shewed me that he shall surely die.

And he settled his countenance stedfastly, until he was ashamed: and the man of God wept.

그러자 하사엘이 물었다. '선생님, 무슨 일로 우십니까?' '나는 당신이 이스라엘 백성에게 행할 끔찍한 일을 알고 있소. 당신은 그들의 요새에 불을 지르고 젊은이들을 칼로 죽이며 어린아이들을 메어쳐서 죽이고 임신한 여자들의 배를 가를 것이오.'

'개처럼 보잘 것없는 내가 어떻게 그런 큰 일을 할 수 있겠습니까?' '여호와께서는 당신이 시리아 왕이 될 것을 나에게 보여 주셨소.'

하사엘이 벤-하닷에게 돌아가자 왕이 그에게 '엘리사가 너에게 뭐라고 말하더냐?' 하고 물었다. 그래서 그는 '왕이 나을 것이라고 말해 주었습니다.' 하고 대답하였다.

그러나 하사엘은 그 다음 날 이불을 물에 적셔 가지고 가서 왕의 얼굴에 덮어 그를 질식시켜 죽이고 자기가 대신 왕이 되었다.

아합의 아들인 이스라엘의 요람왕 5년에 여호사밧의 아들 여호람이 유다 왕이 되었다.

And Hazael said, Why weepeth my lord? And he answered, Because I know the evil that thou wilt do unto the children of Israel: their strong holds wilt thou set on fire, and their young men wilt thou slay with the sword, and wilt dash their children, and rip up their women with child.

And Hazael said, But what, is thy servant a dog, that he should do this great thing? And Elisha answered, The LORD hath shewed me that thou shalt be king over Syria.

So he departed from Elisha, and came to his master; who said to him, What said Elisha to thee? And he answered, He told me that thou shouldest surely recover.

And it came to pass on the morrow, that he took a thick cloth, and dipped it in water, and spread it on his face, so that he died: and Hazael reigned in his stead.

And in the fifth year of Joram the son of Ahab king of Israel, Jehoshaphat being then king of Judah, Jehoram the son of Je hoshaphat king of Judah began to reign.

그는 32세에 왕위에 올라 예루살렘에서 8년을 통치하였다.

그는 아합의 딸과 결혼하였으므로 이스라엘 왕들을 본받아 아합의 집안 사람들처럼 악을 행하고 여호와께 범죄하였다.

그러나 여호와께서 유다를 멸망시키려고 하지 않았던 것은 다윗에게 그 후손들이 계속 나라를 다스리게 해 주겠다고 약속하셨기 때문이었다.

여호람이 나라를 다스릴 당시 에돔이 유다에 반기를 들고 자기들의 왕을 세웠다.

그래서 여호람이 모든 전차를 이끌고 사일로 갔으나 그들은 즉시 에돔 군에게 포위를 당하고 말았다. 그가 야음을 틈타 포위망을 뚫고 도망하자 그의 부하들은 사방 흩어져 모두 자기 집으로 돌아가 버렸다.

Thirty and two years old was he when he began to reign; and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem.

And he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, as did the house of Ahab: for the daughter of Ahab was his wife: and he did evil in the sight of the LORD.

Yet the LORD would not destroy Judah for David his servant's sake, as he promised him to give him alway a light, and to his children.

In his days Edom revolted from under the hand of Judah, and made a king over themselves.

So Joram went over to Zair, and all the chariots with him: and he rose by night, and smote the Edomites which compassed him about, and the captains of the chariots: and the people fled into their tents.

이때부터 에돔은 유다의 속박에서 벗어나 독립하였고 이와 때를 같이하여 립나도 반란을 일으켰다.

그 밖에 여호람이 행한 모든 일은 유다 왕들의 역사책에 기록되어 있다.

여호람은 죽어 다윗성에 있는 조상들의 묘에 장사되었고 그의 아들 아하시야가 왕위를 계승하였다.

아합의 아들인 이스라엘의 요람왕 12년에 여호람의 아들 아하시야가 유다 왕이 되었다.

그는 22세에 왕위에 올라 예루살렘에서 1년을 통치하였다. 그리고 그의 어머니는 이스라엘 왕 오므리의 손녀 아달랴였다.

Yet Edom revolted from under the hand of Judah unto this day. Then Libnah revolted at the same time.

And the rest of the acts of Joram, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

And Joram slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David: and Ahaziah his son reigned in his stead.

In the twelfth year of Joram the son of Ahab king of Israel did Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah begin to reign.

Two and twenty years old was Ahaziah when he began to reign; and he reigned one year in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Athaliah, the daughter of Omri king of Israel.

아하시야는 아합의 집안 사람과 결혼하여 그들처럼 여호와께 범죄하였다.

그는 이스라엘의 요람왕과 합세하여 길르앗의 라못에서 시리아의 하사엘왕과 격전을 벌였는데 그 전투에서 요람왕이 부상을 입어

치료하려고 이스르엘로 가자 아하시야왕은 그 곳으로 가사 그를 문병하였다.

And he walked in the way of the house of Ahab, and did evil in the sight of the LORD, as did the house of Ahab: for he was the son in law of the house of Ahab.

And he went with Joram the son of Ahab to the war against Hazael king of Syria in Ramothgilead; and the Syrians wounded Joram.

And king Joram went back to be healed in Jezreel of the wounds which the Syrians had given him at Ramah, when he fought against Hazael king of Syria. And Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah went down to see Joram the son of Ahab in Jezreel, because he was sick.
