예레미야

  예레미야는 유다의 요시야 왕이 통치할 당시부터 멸망 이후까지 활동한 선지자이다. 유다의 멸망이 임박한 상황에서 예레미야는 하나님의 심판을 예언했지만, 왕과 백성들은 이를 무시하였다. 결국 주전 586년 바벨론의 제3차 유다 침공으로 왕과 백성들은 바벨론의 포로로 잡혀 가고 예루살렘과 성전은 완전히 파괴되고 말았다.

  예레미야는 유다 백성들에게 유다의 범죄는 하나님과의 언약을 파기하는 행위이므로 하나님께로 돌이키라고 강력하게 경고하지만, 패역한 유다는 끝내 회개하지 않음으로 인해 멸망해서 바벨론에 포로로 잡혀 간다. 그러나 예레미야는 이러한 절망적 상황에서도 오직 야웨 하나님만을 의지할 것과 메시아를 통한 이스라엘의 회복에 대한 하나님의 약속의 말씀을 선포함으로써 백성들에게 희망을 준다.

 

 

예레미야 1:1-2:37

 하나님께서는 예레미야를 선지자로 부르셔서 그를 통해 주신 예언을 친히 이루실 것을 약속하셨다. 또한 살구나무 가지와 기울어진 가마의 환상을 통해 유다에 환난이 임박했음을 알리시면서, 유다 백성들이 범죄하고도 깨달음이 없는 것은 그들이 하나님과의 언약을 저버렸기 때문이라고 책망하셨다.
  
  예레미야의 소명(1:1-1:19)    
 
  1. 이것은 베냐민 땅의 아나돗에 살던 제사장들 중 한 사람이었던 힐기야의 아들 예레미야의 말이다.
  2. 아몬의 아들인 유다의 요시야왕 13년에 여호와께서 예레미야에게 말씀하시고
  3. 요시야의 아들인 여호야김이 왕이 되었을 때 여호와께서는 다시 예레미야에게 말씀하셨다. 그 후에 요시야의 아들인 유다의 시드기야왕 11년까지 여호와께서 그에게 수차례에 걸쳐 말씀하셨는데 그 해 5월에 예루살렘 주민들이 포로로 잡혀갔다.
  4. 여호와께서 나에게 이렇게 말씀하셨다.
  5. '내가 모태에서 네 형태를 만들기 전에 너를 알았고 네가 태어나기도 전에 너를 구별하여 온 세상의 예언자로 세웠다.'
  1. The words of Jeremiah the son of Hilkiah, of the priests that were in Anathoth in the land of Benjamin:
  2. To whom the word of the LORD came in the days of Josiah the son of Amon king of Judah, in the thirteenth year of his reign.
  3. It came also in the days of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, unto the end of the eleventh year of Zedekiah the son of Josiah king of Judah, unto the carrying away of Jerusalem captive in the fifth month.
  4. Then the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
  5. Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.
  1. 그때 나는 '여호와 하나님이시여, 나는 아직도 어려서 말할 줄도 모릅니다.' 하고 대답하였다.
  2. 그러나 여호와께서는 나에게 이렇게 말씀하셨다. '너는 어리다고 말하지 말고 내가 너를 누구에게 보내든지 너는 가서 내가 명령한 것을 다 말하라.
  3. 너는 그들을 두려워하지 말아라. 내가 너와 함께 하여 너를 보호하겠다. 이것은 나 여호와의 말이다.'
  4. 그리고서 여호와께서는 손을 내밀어 내 입에 대시며 말씀하셨다. '보라, 나는 지금 네가 해야 할 말을 일러 주고 있다.
  5. 내가 오늘 너에게 많은 민족과 나라를 다스리며 그들을 뽑고 파괴하고 파멸시키고 넘어뜨리고 건설하며 심는 권한을 주겠다.'
  1. Then said I, Ah, Lord GOD! behold, I cannot speak: for I am a child.
  2. But the LORD said unto me, Say not, I am a child: for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee, and whatsoever I command thee thou shalt speak.
  3. Be not afraid of their faces: for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the LORD.
  4. Then the LORD put forth his hand, and touched my mouth. And the LORD said unto me, Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth.
  5. See, I have this day set thee over the nations and over the kingdoms, to root out, and to pull down, and to destroy, and to throw down, to build, and to plant.
  1. 또 여호와께서 나에게 '예레미야야, 네가 무엇을 보느냐?' 하고 물으셨다. 그때 나는 '살구나무 가지를 봅니다.' 하고 대답하였다.
  2. 그러자 여호와께서는 '잘 보았다. 이것은 내 말을 이루기 위한 것이다.' 하고 말씀하셨다.
  3. 여호와께서 다시 나에게 '네가 무엇을 보느냐?' 하고 물으셨다. 그래서 나는 '끓는 가마를 보고 있는데 북에서 남쪽으로 기울어졌습니다.' 하고 대답하였다.
  4. 그때 여호와께서 나에게 말씀하셨다. '재앙이 북쪽에서 일어나 이 땅의 모든 백성에게 미칠 것이다.
  5. 내가 북쪽에 있는 모든 민족을 부를 것이니 그들의 왕들이 와서 예루살렘 성문 입구에 제각기 자리를 잡고 그 성과 유다의 모든 성들을 칠 것이다.
  1. Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, Jeremiah, what seest thou? And I said, I see a rod of an almond tree.
  2. Then said the LORD unto me, Thou hast well seen: for I will hasten my word to perform it.
  3. And the word of the LORD came unto me the second time, saying, What seest thou? And I said, I see a seething pot; and the face thereof is toward the north.
  4. Then the LORD said unto me, Out of the north an evil shall break forth upon all the inhabitants of the land.
  5. For, lo, I will call all the families of the kingdoms of the north, saith the LORD; and they shall come, and they shall set every one his throne at the entering of the gates of Jerusalem, and against all the walls thereof round about, and against all the cities of Judah.
  1. 내가 내 백성을 심판하여 벌하려고 하는 것은 그들이 나를 버리고 다른 신들에게 분향하며 자기들의 손으로 우상을 만들어 섬김으로 범죄하였기 때문이다.
  2. 이제 너는 일어나 떠날 준비를 하고 가서 내가 너에게 명령한 모든 것을 그들에게 말하라. 너는 그들을 조금도 두려워하지 말아라. 그렇지 않으면 내가 너를 그들 앞에서 당황하게 하겠다.
  3. 보라, 이 땅에 있는 모든 사람들, 곧 유다의 왕들과 지도자들과 제사장들과 모든 백성이 너를 대적할 것이다. 그러나 내가 너에게 그들과 맞서 싸울 힘을 주겠다. 너는 그들 앞에서 요새화된 성과 쇠기둥과 놋성벽과 같을 것이다.
  4. 그들이 너를 대적하여도 이기지 못할 것이다. 이것은 내가 너와 함께 하여 너를 구할 것이기 때문이다. 이것은 나 여호와시 말이다.'
  1. And I will utter my judgments against them touching all their wickedness, who have forsaken me, and have burned incense unto other gods, and worshipped the works of their own hands.
  2. Thou therefore gird up thy loins, and arise, and speak unto them all that I command thee: be not dismayed at their faces, lest I confound thee before them.
  3. For, behold, I have made thee this day a defenced city, and an iron pillar, and brasen walls against the whole land, against the kings of Judah, against the princes thereof, against the priests thereof, and against the people of the land.
  4. And they shall fight against thee; but they shall not prevail against thee; for I am with thee, saith the LORD, to deliver thee.
 
  유다의 책망(2:1-2:37)    
 
  1. 여호와께서 나에게 말씀하셨다.
  2. '너는 가서 예루살렘 주민들에게 나 여호와가 이렇게 말한다고 전하여라. 나는 너희가 오래 전에 나에게 쏟은 헌신과 신부처럼 나를 사랑한 것과 메마르고 거친 광야에서 어떻게 나를 따랐는지 잘 기억하고 있다.
  3. 그때 이스라엘은 나의 거룩한 백성 곧 내 백성의 첫열매가 되었으니 그들을 해치는 자들은 모조리 벌을 받아 재앙을 만났다.
  4. 야곱의 후손인 이스라엘 자손들아, 여호와의 말씀을 들어라.
  5. 여호와께서 이렇게 말씀하셨다. '너희 조상들이 내게서 무슨 잘못을 발견하였기에 나를 버리고 우상을 좇아 헛된 짓을 하였느냐?
  1. Moreover the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
  2. Go and cry in the ears of Jerusalem, saying, Thus saith the LORD; I remember thee, the kindness of thy youth, the love of thine espousals, when thou wentest after me in the wilderness, in a land that was not sown.
  3. Israel was holiness unto the LORD, and the firstfruits of his increase: all that devour him shall offend; evil shall come upon them, saith the LORD.
  4. Hear ye the word of the LORD, O house of Jacob, and all the families of the house of Israel:
  5. Thus saith the LORD, What iniquity have your fathers found in me, that they are gone far from me, and have walked after vanity, and are become vain?
  1. 내가 그들을 이집트 땅에서 이끌어내어 메마른 광야, 곧 사막과 구렁이 있고 건조하며 음산하여 사람이 다니지도 않고 살지도 않는 땅을 통과하도록 인도하였으나 그들은 나에게 아무런 관심도 없었다.
  2. 내가 그들을 비옥한 땅으로 인도하여 과일과 풍성한 농작물을 먹게 하였으나 그들은 내 땅을 더럽히고 내가 그들에게 준 유산을 죄악의 땅으로 만들었다.
  3. 그리고 제사장들까지 나를 찾지 않았으며 법관들은 나를 무시하고 관리들도 나를 거역하며 예언자들은 바알의 이름으로 예언하고 헛된 우상을 섬겼다.
  4. 그래서 내가 다시 너희를 책망하고 또 너희 후손들도 책망할 것이다.
  5. 너희는 키프러스섬 서쪽 연안 지역에 건너가 보고 또 게달에도 사람을 보내 이런 일이 있었는지 한번 알아보아라.
  1. Neither said they, Where is the LORD that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, that led us through the wilderness, through a land of deserts and of pits, through a land of drought, and of the shadow of death, through a land that no man passed through, and where no man dwelt?
  2. And I brought you into a plentiful country, to eat the fruit thereof and the goodness thereof; but when ye entered, ye defiled my land, and made mine heritage an abomination.
  3. The priests said not, Where is the LORD? and they that handle the law knew me not: the pastors also transgressed against me, and the prophets prophesied by Baal, and walked after things that do not profit.
  4. Wherefore I will yet plead with you, saith the LORD, and with your children's children will I plead.
  5. For pass over the isles of Chittim, and see; and send unto Kedar, and consider diligently, and see if there be such a thing.
  1. 어느 나라가 자기들의 신을 바꾼 일이 있느냐? 그들의 신은 진짜 신이 아닌데도 자기들의 신을 바꾼 나라는 하나도 없었다. 그러나 나의 백성은 자기들에게 영광이 되었던 나를 자기들에게 아무런 도움이 되지 않는 신과 바꾸어 버렸다.
  2. 이것은 하늘도 두려워 떨고 놀랄 일이다.
  3. 내 백성이 범한 두 가지 죄는 생수의 샘인 나를 버린 것과 물을 담을 수 없는 터진 웅덩이를 스스로 판 것이다.
  4. 이스라엘아, 네가 노예냐? 씨종이냐? 어째서 네가 희생물이 되었느냐?
  5. 너의 대적들이 사자처럼 으르렁거리며 달려들어 네 땅을 못 쓰게 하였고 네 성들은 불타서 폐허가 되었으며
  1. Hath a nation changed their gods, which are yet no gods? but my people have changed their glory for that which doth not profit.
  2. Be astonished, O ye heavens, at this, and be horribly afraid, be ye very desolate, saith the LORD.
  3. For my people have committed two evils; they have forsaken me the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water.
  4. Is Israel a servant? is he a homeborn slave? why is he spoiled?
  5. The young lions roared upon him, and yelled, and they made his land waste: his cities are burned without inhabitant.
  1. 멤피스와 다바네스 사람들도 네 머리의 면류관을 부숴 버렸다.
  2. 내가 너를 인도할 때에 네 하나님 여호와를 저버림으로 네가 이런 일을 자청한 것이 아니냐?
  3. 네가 나일 강물을 마시려고 이집트로 갔다가 얻은 것이 무엇이며 유프라테스 강물을 마시려고 앗시리아로 갔다가 얻은 것이 무엇이냐?
  4. 네 악이 너를 벌할 것이며 나를 버린 배신 행위가 너를 책망할 것이다. 네 하나님 여호와를 저버린 것과 네가 나를 두려워하지 않는 바로 그것이 악이요 쓰라린 고통인 것을 네가 알게 될 것이다. 이것은 전능한 나 여호와의 말이다.
  5. 오래 전에 너는 내 멍에를 벗어 버리며 내 속박을 끊어 버리고 나를 섬기지 않겠다고 말하며 모든 높은 산과 모든 푸른 나무 아래서 우상 앞에 절하였다.
  1. Also the children of Noph and Tahapanes have broken the crown of thy head.
  2. Hast thou not procured this unto thyself, in that thou hast forsaken the LORD thy God, when he led thee by the way?
  3. And now what hast thou to do in the way of Egypt, to drink the waters of Sihor? or what hast thou to do in the way of Assyria, to drink the waters of the river?
  4. Thine own wickedness shall correct thee, and thy backslidings shall reprove thee: know therefore and see that it is an evil thing and bitter, that thou hast forsaken the LORD thy God, and that my fear is not in thee, saith the Lord GOD of hosts.
  5. For of old time I have broken thy yoke, and burst thy bands; and thou saidst, I will not transgress; when upon every high hill and under every green tree thou wanderest, playing the harlot.
  1. 내가 너를 순종의 제일 좋은 포도나무로 심었는데 네가 어째서 나를 대적하여 이방 포도나무의 형편없는 가지가 되었느냐?
  2. 나 주 여호와가 말하지만 네가 아무리 잿물로 씻고 많은 비누를 사용한다고 해도 네 죄는 여전히 내 앞에 있을 것이다.
  3. 네가 어떻게 자신을 더럽히지 않고 바알을 섬기지 않았다고 말할 수 있느냐? 골짜기에 있는 길을 보아라. 네가 행한 일을 알게 될 것이다. 너는 정신 없이 이리저리 뛰어다니는 암낙타 같고
  4. 광야에 익숙한 들나귀가 성욕에 못 이겨 날뛰는 것 같았다. 누가 그것을 막을 수 있겠는가? 그것을 찾는 수놈이 수고할 필요가 없는 것은 발정기가 되면 그들은 자연히 만나게 되기 때문이다.
  5. 나는 너에게 '신발을 벗은 채 목이 타도록 헤매고 다니면서 이방신을 찾지 말라.'고 하였으나 너는 '아니오, 가망 없는 일입니다. 내가 이방 신들을 사랑했으니 나는 그들을 따라가겠습니다.' 하였다.
  1. Yet I had planted thee a noble vine, wholly a right seed: how then art thou turned into the degenerate plant of a strange vine unto me?
  2. For though thou wash thee with nitre, and take thee much soap, yet thine iniquity is marked before me, saith the Lord GOD.
  3. How canst thou say, I am not polluted, I have not gone after Baalim? see thy way in the valley, know what thou hast done: thou art a swift dromedary traversing her ways;
  4. A wild ass used to the wilderness, that snuffeth up the wind at her pleasure; in her occasion who can turn her away? all they that seek her will not weary themselves; in her month they shall find her.
  5. Withhold thy foot from being unshod, and thy throat from thirst: but thou saidst, There is no hope: no; for I have loved strangers, and after them will I go.
  1. 도둑이 붙들리면 수치를 당하는 것처럼 이스라엘의 모든 사람, 곧 왕들과 지도자들과 제사장들과 예언자들도 수치를 당할 것이다.
  2. 그들은 나무를 보고 '너는 나의 아버지다' 하고 돌을 보고서는 '너는 나를 낳았다.' 하며 나에게 등을 돌리고 나를 외면하다가도 환난을 당하며 '와서 우리를 구원하소서.' 하고 말한다.
  3. 네가 만든 신들은 어디 있느냐? 네가 환난을 당할 때 그들이 너를 구원할 수 있으면 너를 구하게 하라. 유다야, 너의 신들이 네 성의 수만큼이나 많구나!
  4. '너희 불만이 무엇이냐? 너희가 어째서 나를 반역하느냐?
  5. 내가 너희 자녀들을 벌하였으나 아무 소용이 없었다. 그들도 내가 타이를 때 듣지 않았다. 너희는 사나운 사자처럼 너희 예언자들을 죽였다.
  1. As the thief is ashamed when he is found, so is the house of Israel ashamed; they, their kings, their princes, and their priests, and their prophets.
  2. Saying to a stock, Thou art my father; and to a stone, Thou hast brought me forth: for they have turned their back unto me, and not their face: but in the time of their trouble they will say, Arise, and save us.
  3. But where are thy gods that thou hast made thee? let them arise, if they can save thee in the time of thy trouble: for according to the number of thy cities are thy gods, O Judah.
  4. Wherefore will ye plead with me? ye all have transgressed against me, saith the LORD.
  5. In vain have I smitten your children; they received no correction: your own sword hath devoured your prophets, like a destroying lion.
  1. 내 백성들아, 나 여호와가 하는 말을 들어라. 내가 이스라엘에게 광야나 흑암의 땅처럼 된 적이 있느냐? 어째서 내 백성은 '우리가 자유로운 몸이 되었으니 다시는 주께로 가지 않겠습니다.'하고 말하는가?
  2. 처녀가 어떻게 그 패물을 잊을 수 있으며 신부가 어떻게 그 고운 옷을 잊을 수 있겠는가? 그러나 내 백성은 까마득하게 나를 잊어버렸다.
  3. 너희가 사랑을 추구하는 수법이 보통이 아니구나. 가장 능숙한 창녀도 오히려 너희에게 배워야 하겠다.
  4. 너희 옷에는 집 안에 침입한 강도의 피가 아닌 가난하고 죄 없는 사람의 피가 묻어 있다.
  5. 그런데도 너희는 뻔뻔스럽게 '나에게는 아무 죄가 없으므로 여호와께서 분노를 내게서 돌이키셨다.' 하는구나. 그러나 너희가 죄를 짓지 않았다고 말하기 때문에 나는 너희를 심판할 것이다.
  1. O generation, see ye the word of the LORD. Have I been a wilderness unto Israel? a land of darkness? wherefore say my people, We are lords; we will come no more unto thee?
  2. Can a maid forget her ornaments, or a bride her attire? yet my people have forgotten me days without number.
  3. Why trimmest thou thy way to seek love? therefore hast thou also taught the wicked ones thy ways.
  4. Also in thy skirts is found the blood of the souls of the poor innocents: I have not found it by secret search, but upon all these.
  5. Yet thou sayest, Because I am innocent, surely his anger shall turn from me. Behold, I will plead with thee, because thou sayest, I have not sinned.
  1. 너희가 어째서 그처럼 이리저리 바쁘게 쫓아다니느냐? 너희가 앗시리아에게 수치를 당한 것처럼 이집트에게도 수치를 당할 것이다.
  2. 결국 너희는 이집트에서도 얼굴을 들지 못하고 떠나게 될 것이다. 이것은 너희가 의지하는 자들을 나 여호와가 버렸으므로 너희가 그들에게서 아무런 도움을 받지 못할 것이기 때문이다.'
  1. Why gaddest thou about so much to change thy way? thou also shalt be ashamed of Egypt, as thou wast ashamed of Assyria.
  2. Yea, thou shalt go forth from him, and thine hands upon thine head: for the LORD hath rejected thy confidences, and thou shalt not prosper in them.
