야고보서 2:14-3:18

 야고보는 믿음이란 생활 속에서 실천하는 것이므로 행함은 믿음의 열매와 같다고 지적하였고, 혀를 잘 다스리는 자가 온전한 자라고 말하였으며, 하나님의 선물인 참지혜는 선하고 온전하다고 가르쳤다.
  
  믿음과 실천(2:14-2:26)    
 
  1. 형제 여러분, 믿음이 있다고 하면서 실천하지 않으면 무슨 소용이 있습니까? 그런 믿음으로 구원을 받을 수 있겠습니까?
  2. 어떤 형제나 자매가 당장 입을 옷이 없고 끼니를 때울 양식이 없는데
  3. 여러분 가운데 누가 '평안히 가십시오. 몸을 따뜻하게 하십시오. 배불리 먹으십시오.' 하고 실제로 필요한 것을 주지 않는다면 그런 말이 무슨 소용이 있겠습니까?
  4. 이와 같이 행동이 따르지 않는 믿음은 그 자체가 죽은 것입니다.
  5. 그러나 어떤 사람은 이런 말을 할 것입니다. '너에게는 믿음이 있고 나에게는 행동이 있다. 행동이 따르지 않는 네 믿음을 나에게 보여라. 나는 행동으로 내 믿음을 너에게 보이겠다.'
  1. What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?
  2. If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food,
  3. And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?
  4. Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.
  5. Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.
  1. 여러분은 하나님이 한 분이신 것을 믿으니 잘하는 일입니다. 귀신들도 믿고 두려워서 떱니다.
  2. 어리석은 사람들이여, 행동이 따르지 않는 믿음은 아무 쓸모가 없다는 것을 모르십니까?
  3. 우리 조상 아브라함이 아들 이삭을 제단에 드릴 때 그가 행한 일로 의롭다는 인정을 받지 않았습니까?
  4. 여러분도 알고 있듯이 그의 믿음에는 행동이 따랐으며 그것으로 그의 믿음이 완전하게 되었습니다.
  5. 그래서 '아브라함이 하나님을 믿었으므로 하나님은 이 믿음 때문에 그를 의롭게 여기셨다.'는 성경 말씀이 이루어졌고 그는 하나님의 친구로 불려졌습니다.
  1. Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.
  2. But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?
  3. Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar?
  4. Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect?
  5. And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.
  1. 따라서 사람이 의롭다는 인정을 받는 것은 행동으로 되는 것이지 믿음만으로 되는 것이 아닙니다.
  2. 이와 같이 기생 라합도 이스라엘 정찰병을 숨겼다가 안전하게 보낸 그 일로 의롭다는 인정을 받았습니다.
  3. 영이 없는 몸이 죽은 것처럼 행동이 따르지 않는 믿음은 죽은 것입니다.
  1. Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.
  2. Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way?
  3. For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.
 
  혀의 위험성(3:1-3:12)    
 
  1. 형제 여러분, 너도 나도 선생이 되겠다고 하지 마십시오. 여러분도 다 아는 일이지만 선생 된 우리가 더 큰 심판을 받을 것입니다.
  2. 우리는 다 실수가 많은 사람들입니다. 만일 사람이 말에 실수가 없으면 그는 자기 자신을 다스릴 수 있는 완전한 사람입니다.
  3. 우리는 말의 입에 재갈을 물려 마음대로 부립니다.
  4. 배를 보십시오. 그렇게 큰 배가 강풍에 밀려 다녀도 항해사는 아주 작은 키 하나로 그 배를 마음대로 조종합니다.
  5. 이와 같이 사람의 혀도 몸의 작은 부분에 불과하지만 그것을 잘못 사용하면 큰 손해를 가져옵니다. 작은 불씨가 큰 숲을 태우지 않습니까?
  1. My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation.
  2. For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body.
  3. Behold, we put bits in the horses' mouths, that they may obey us; and we turn about their whole body.
  4. Behold also the ships, which though they be so great, and are driven of fierce winds, yet are they turned about with a very small helm, whithersoever the governor listeth.
  5. Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth!
  1. 그러므로 사람의 혀는 불과 같고 악으로 가득 찬 세계와 같습니다. 혀는 몸의 한 부분이지만 온 몸을 더럽히고 우리의 생애를 불태우며 끝내는 혀 그 자체도 지옥 불에 타고 맙니다.
  2. 온갖 짐승과 새와 파충류와 바다 생물은 사람에 의해서 길들여지고 있고 또 길들여졌습니다.
  3. 그러나 혀를 길들일 사람은 아무도 없습니다. 혀는 걷잡을 수 없는 악이며 죽이는 독으로 가득 차 있습니다.
  4. 우리는 이 혀로 하나님을 찬송도 하고 그분의 모습으로 창조된 사람들을 저주도 합니다.
  5. 한입에서 찬송과 저주가 나오고 있습니다. 형제 여러분, 이런 일이 있어서는 안 되겠습니다.
  1. And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.
  2. For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind:
  3. But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.
  4. Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God.
  5. Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.
  1. 한 샘에서 단물과 쓴 물이 함께 나올 수 있겠습니까?
  2. 형제 여러분, 무화과나무가 감람 열매를 맺거나 포도덩굴이 무화과를 맺을 수 있겠습니까? 이와 같이 짠 샘이 단물을 낼 수는 없습니다.
  1. Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter?
  2. Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? so can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh.
 
  참된 지혜(3:13-3:18)    
 
  1. 여러분 가운데 지혜롭고 총명한 사람이 누구입니까? 선한 생활로, 그리고 지혜로운 겸손의 행위로 그것을 나타내 보이십시오.
  2. 그러나 마음 속에 지독한 시기심과 이기적인 욕망이 있다면 여러분은 자랑하지 마십시오. 그리고 진리를 거스려 거짓말하지 마십시오.
  3. 이런 지혜는 하늘에서 온 것이 아니라 세상적이요 정욕적이며 마귀의 것입니다.
  4. 시기와 이기적인 욕망이 있는 곳에는 혼란과 온갖 악한 일이 있을 뿐입니다.
  5. 그러나 하늘에서 온 지혜는 첫째 순결하고 다음에는 평화를 사랑하고 너그럽고 양순하고 자비와 선한 열매가 가득하고 편견과 위선이 없습니다.
  1. Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom.
  2. But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth.
  3. This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish.
  4. For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.
  5. But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.
  1. 평화를 조성하는 사람은 평화의 씨를 심어 의의 열매를 거둡니다.
  1. And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace.
