창세기 16:1-17:27

 자식을 낳지 못하던 아브람의 아내 사래는 몸종 하갈을 통해 이스마엘을 낳게 했다. 아브람의 나이 99세 때, 하나님께서 아브람과 사래의 이름을 아브라함과 사라로 바꿀 것을 명하시고 언약의 후손 이삭이 태어날 것을 말씀하셨다. 그리고 집안의 모든 남자들에게 언약의 표인 할례를 시행하게 하셨다.
  
  이스마엘의 출생(16:1-16:16)    
 
  1. 아브람의 아내 사래는 자식을 낳지 못했으나 그녀에게는 하갈이라는 이집트인 여종이 있었다.
  2. 어느 날 사래가 아브람에게 '여호와께서 나에게 자식을 주지 않으시니 당신은 내 여종과 함께 잠자리에 드세요 아마 내가 그녀를 통해서 자식을 얻을 수 있을거예요' 하자 아브람은 사래의 말에 따르기로 하였다.
  3. 그래서 사래는 하갈을 자기 남편에게 첩으로 주었는데 그 때는 아브람이 가나안땅에 들어와서 산 지 10년이 지난 후였다.
  4. 아브람이 하갈과 잠자리를 같이하므로 하갈이 임신하였다. 그러자 그녀는 자기가 임신한 것을 알고 교만하여 자기 여주인을 무시하기 시작하였다.
  5. 그때 사래가 아브람에게 말하였다. '내가 업신여김을 당하는 것은 당신의 잘못입니다. 내가 내 여종을 당신의 첩으로 주었는데 그녀가 임신한 것을 알고 나를 멸시하니 당신과 나 사이에 여호와께서 판단하시기 바랍니다'
  1. Now Sarai, Abram's wife had borne him no children, and she had an Egyptian maid whose name was Hagar.
  2. So Sarai said to Abram, "Now behold, the LORD has prevented me from bearing children. Please go in to my maid; perhaps I will obtain children through her." And Abram listened to the voice of Sarai.
  3. After Abram had lived ten years in the land of Canaan, Abram's wife Sarai took Hagar the Egyptian, her maid, and gave her to her husband Abram as his wife.
  4. He went in to Hagar, and she conceived; and when she saw that she had conceived, her mistress was despised in her sight.
  5. And Sarai said to Abram, "May the wrong done me be upon you I gave my maid into your arms, but when she saw that she had conceived, I was despised in her sight May the LORD judge between you and me."
  1. 그러자 아브람이 사래에게 '당신의 여종을 다스릴 권한이 당신에게 있으니 당신이 좋을 대로 하시오' 하였다. 그 때부터 사래가 하갈을 학대하므로 하갈이 사래에게서 도망하였다.
  2. 여호와의 천사가 술로 가는 길 옆 광야의 샘 곁에서 하갈을 만나
  3. '사래의 여종 하갈아, 네가 어디서 와서 어디로 가느냐?' 하고 물었다. 그때 하갈이 '내 여주인을 피하여 도망하는 중입니다' 하고 대답하자
  4. 여호와의 천사가 '너는 네 여주인에게 돌아가서 복종하라' 하며
  5. 다시 이렇게 덧붙였다. '내가 아무도 셀 수 없는 많은 후손을 너에게 주겠다.
  1. But Abram said to Sarai, "Behold, your maid is in your power; do to her what is good in your sight." So Sarai treated her harshly, and she fled from her presence.
  2. Now the angel of the LORD found her by a spring of water in the wilderness, by the spring on the way to Shur.
  3. He said, "Hagar, Sarai's maid, where have you come from and where are you going?" And she said, "I am fleeing from the presence of my mistress Sarai."
  4. Then the angel of the LORD said to her, "Return to your mistress, and submit yourself to her authority."
  5. Moreover, the angel of the LORD said to her, "I will greatly multiply your descendants so that they will be too many to count."
  1. 이제 네가 임신하였으니 아들을 낳으면 그 이름을 이스마엘이라고 불러라 여호와께서는 네 고통의 소리를 들으셨다.
  2. 그러나 네 아들은 들나귀와 같은 생활을 할 것이다. 그가 모든 사람을 치고 모든 사람은 그를 칠 것이며 그는 적개심을 품고 자기 형제들과 동떨어져 살 것이다'
  3. 하갈은 속으로 '내가 정말 하나님을 뵙고 여기서 살아 남은 것인가?' 하고 자기에게 말씀하신 여호와의 이름을 '나를 보시는 하나님'이라고 불렀다.
  4. 그래서 사람들은 가이스와 베렛 사이에 있는 그 샘을 '나를 보시는 살아 계신 분의 우물'이라고 불렀다.
  5. 하갈이 아브람에게 아들을 낳아 주자 아브람은 그 아이 이름을 이스마엘이라고 지었는데
  1. The angel of the LORD said to her further, "Behold, you are with child, And you will bear a son; And you shall call his name Ishmael, Because the LORD has given heed to your affliction.
  2. "He will be a wild donkey of a man, His hand will be against everyone, And everyone's hand will be against him; And he will live to the east of all his brothers."
  3. Then she called the name of the LORD who spoke to her, "You are a God who sees"; for she said, "Have I even remained alive here after seeing Him?"
  4. Therefore the well was called Beer-lahai-roi; behold, it is between Kadesh and Bered.
  5. So Hagar bore Abram a son; and Abram called the name of his son, whom Hagar bore, Ishmael.
  1. 그때 아브람의 나이는 86세였다.
  1. Abram was eighty-six years old when Hagar bore Ishmael to him.
 
  언약의 표인 할례(17:1-17:27)    
 
  1. 아브람이 99세가 되었을 때 여호와께서 그에게 나타나 말씀하셨다. '나는 전능한 하나님이다. 너는 나에게 순종하며 내 앞에서 흠 없이 살아라.
  2. 내가 너와 계약을 맺어 너를 크게 번성하게 하겠다'
  3. 그때 아브람이 얼굴을 땅에 대고 엎드리자 하나님이 다시 말씀하셨다.
  4. '이것이 내가 너와 맺는 계약이다. 너는 많은 민족의 조상이 될 것이며
  5. 이제부터 네 이름은 아브람이 아니라 '아브라함'이 될 것이다 나는 너를 많은 민족의 조상으로 세웠다.
  1. Now when Abram was ninety-nine years old, the LORD appeared to Abram and said to him, "I am God Almighty; Walk before Me, and be blameless.
  2. "I will establish My covenant between Me and you, And I will multiply you exceedingly."
  3. Abram fell on his face, and God talked with him, saying,
  4. "As for Me, behold, My covenant is with you, And you will be the father of a multitude of nations.
  5. "No longer shall your name be called Abram, But your name shall be Abraham; For I have made you the father of a multitude of nations.
  1. 내가 너에게 많은 나라를 이룰 후손들을 주겠다. 네 후손 가운데서 많은 왕들이 나올 것이다.
  2. 내가 너와 네 후손에게 내 약속을 영원한 계약으로 지키고 너와 네 후손의 하나님이 될 것이다.
  3. 네가 지금 나그네 생활을 하고 있는 이 땅을 내가 너와 네 후손에게 줄 것이니 가나안 땅 전체가 네 후손들의 영원한 소유가 될 것이며 나는 그들의 하나님이 될 것이다.
  4. 그러므로 너와 네 후손은 내 계약을 대대로 지켜라.
  5. 너와 네 후손이 지켜야 할 내 계약은 너희 가운데 모든 남자가 다 할례를 받는 것이다.
  1. "I will make you exceedingly fruitful, and I will make nations of you, and kings will come forth from you.
  2. "I will establish My covenant between Me and you and your descendants after you throughout their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and to your descendants after you.
  3. "I will give to you and to your descendants after you, the land of your sojournings, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their God."
  4. God said further to Abraham, "Now as for you, you shall keep My covenant, you and your descendants after you throughout their generations.
  5. "This is My covenant, which you shall keep, between Me and you and your descendants after you: every male among you shall be circumcised.
  1. 너희는 포피를 베어라. 이것이 나와 너희 사이에 계약의 표가 될 것이다.
  2. 너희 모든 남자는 태어난 지 8일 만에 할례를 받아야 하며
  3. 너희 집에서 태어난 종이나 외국에서 사온 종도 포피를 베어 할례를 받아야 한다. 모든 남자가 다 할례를 받음으로서 너희는 내가 너희와 맺은 계약이 영원하다는 것을 보여 주는 표를 피부에 지니게 될 것이다.
  4. 그러나 포피를 베어 할례를 받지 않는 남자는 나와 맺은 계약을 깨뜨리는 자이므로 그는 자기 백성 가운에서 제거당할 것이다'
  5. 그리고서 하나님은 덧붙여 아브라함에게 말씀하셨다. '이제부터 너는 네 아내를 사래라고 부르지 말고 그 이름을 '사라'라고 불러라.
  1. "And you shall be circumcised in the flesh of your foreskin, and it shall be the sign of the covenant between Me and you.
  2. "And every male among you who is eight days old shall be circumcised throughout your generations, a servant who is born in the house or who is bought with money from any foreigner, who is not of your descendants.
  3. "A servant who is born in your house or who is bought with your money shall surely be circumcised; thus shall My covenant be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant.
  4. "But an uncircumcised male who is not circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin, that person shall be cut off from his people; he has broken My covenant."
  5. Then God said to Abraham, "As for Sarai your wife, you shall not call her name Sarai, but Sarah shall be her name.
  1. 내가 그녀를 축복하여 그녀를 통해 너에게 아들을 주겠다. 내가 그녀에게 복을 주어 모든 나라의 어머니가 되게 할 것이니 그녀의 후손 가운데서 많은 왕들이 나올 것이다'
  2. 아브라함은 얼굴을 땅에 대고 엎드렸으나 속으로 웃으며 '100세가 된 사람이 어떻게 자식을 낳을 수 있을까? 사라는 90세나 되었는데 어떻게 자식을 낳을 수 있겠는가?' 하고 중얼거리다가
  3. 하나님께 말하였다. '이스마엘이나 주의 축복 가운데서 살았으면 좋겠습니다'
  4. 그러나 하나님은 이렇게 말씀하셨다. '아니다. 네 아내 사라가 너에게 아들을 낳아 줄 것이다. 너는 그 이름을 이삭이라고 하라. 내가 그와 계약을 맺을 것이니 그의 후손들에게 영원한 계약이 될 것이다.
  5. 나는 네가 이스마엘에 대해서 하는 말은 들었다. 내가 그를 축복하여 그에게 많은 자녀와 후손을 주어 그를 크게 번성하게 하겠다. 그는 열 두 통치자를 낳을 것이다. 내가 그를 통해 큰 나라가 서게 하겠다.
  1. "I will bless her, and indeed I will give you a son by her Then I will bless her, and she shall be a mother of nations; kings of peoples will come from her."
  2. Then Abraham fell on his face and laughed, and said in his heart, "Will a child be born to a man one hundred years old? And will Sarah, who is ninety years old, bear a child?"
  3. And Abraham said to God, "Oh that Ishmael might live before You!"
  4. But God said, "No, but Sarah your wife will bear you a son, and you shall call his name Isaac; and I will establish My covenant with him for an everlasting covenant for his descendants after him.
  5. "As for Ishmael, I have heard you; behold, I will bless him, and will make him fruitful and will multiply him exceedingly He shall become the father of twelve princes, and I will make him a great nation.
  1. 그러나 내 계약은 내년 이맘때에 사라가 너에게 낳아 줄 이삭과 맺을 것이다'
  2. 그리고서 하나님은 아브라함과 하시던 말씀을 마치시고 그를 떠나셨다.
  3. 바로 그 날 아브라함은 하나님이 자기에게 말씀하신 대로 그의 아들 이스마엘과 그리고 자기 집에서 태어난 종과 돈으로 사온 종을 포함하여 집안의 모든 남자들을 데려다가 포피를 베었다.
  4. 그때 아브라함은 99세였고
  5. 그의 아들 이스마엘은 13세였다
  1. "But My covenant I will establish with Isaac, whom Sarah will bear to you at this season next year."
  2. When He finished talking with him, God went up from Abraham.
  3. Then Abraham took Ishmael his son, and all the servants who were born in his house and all who were bought with his money, every male among the men of Abraham's household, and circumcised the flesh of their foreskin in the very same day, as God had said to him.
  4. Now Abraham was ninety-nine years old when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin.
  5. And Ishmael his son was thirteen years old when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin.
  1. 이와 같이 한날에 아브라함과 그의 아들 이스마엘이 그 집 안의 다른 모든 남자들과 함께 할례를 받았다.
  2. (26절과 같음)
  1. In the very same day Abraham was circumcised, and Ishmael his son.
  2. All the men of his household, who were born in the house or bought with money from a foreigner, were circumcised with him.
