	민수기 11:24-13:33 모세는 이스라엘의 불평을 하나님께 호소하였고, 모세의 책임을 분담하기 위해 70인의 장로가 선택되었다. 미리암과 아론은 이방 여인과 결혼한 모세를 비방하였다. 이 일로 인해 미리암은 하나님의 징계를 받아 문둥병에 걸렸으나 모세의 기도로 치유되었다. 가데스 바네아에서 하나님께서 가나안 땅에 열두 정탐꾼을 보내게 하셨다. 이에 가나안 땅을 정탐하고 돌아온 정탐꾼들 중 열 명은 백성들에게 부정적인 보고를 하였으나, 여호수아와 갈렙은 믿음에 근거한 긍정적인 보고를 하였다.

	미리암과 아론의 시기(11:24-12:16)

그래서 모세는 나가서 백성들에게 여호와의 말씀을 전하고 존경받는 지도자 70명을 불러서 성막 주위에 서게 하였다.

그때 여호와께서 구름 가운데 내려오셔서 모세와 말씀하시고 또 모세에게 주신 영을 그 지도자들에게도 주셨다. 여호와의 영이 그들에게 내리자 그들은 얼마 동안 예언했으나 다시는 예언하지 않았다.

그러나 그 지도자들 가운데 엘닷과 메닷은 성막에 가지 않고 진영에 남아 있었는데 그들에게도 영이 내렸으므로 그들이 진영에서 예언하였다.

그때 한 청년이 모세에게 달려와서 '엘닷과 메닷이 진영에서 예언하고 있습니다.' 하자

어릴 때부터 모세를 도와 일해 온 눈의 아들 여호수아가 그 말을 듣고 '선생님, 그들이 예언하지 못하게 하십시오.' 하였다.

So Moses went out and told the people the words of the LORD. Also, he gathered seventy men of the elders of the people, and stationed them around the tent.

Then the LORD came down in the cloud and spoke to him; and He took of the Spirit who was upon him and placed Him upon the seventy elders. And when the Spirit rested upon them, they prophesied. But they did not do it again.

But two men had remained in the camp; the name of one was Eldad and the name of the other Medad. And the Spirit rested upon them (now they were among those who had been registered, but had not gone out to the tent), and they prophesied in the camp.

So a young man ran and told Moses and said, "Eldad and Medad are prophesying in the camp."

Then Joshua the son of Nun, the attendant of Moses from his youth, said, "Moses, my lord, restrain them."

그러나 모세는 그에게 '네가 나를 위해 그들을 시기하느냐? 나는 여호와의 모든 백성이 다 예언자가 되기를 바라며 여호와께서 그들에게 성령을 주시기 원하고 있다.' 하고 대답하였다.

그리고서 모세는 이스라엘 지도자들과 함께 진영으로 돌아갔다.

여호와께서 바람을 보내 바다에서부터 메추라기를 몰아 진영과 그 주변 일대에 내리게 하시자 진영에서 사방으로 하룻길 떨어진 지역까지 메추라기가 지상에서 약 1미터 높이로 날아다녔다.

그래서 사람들은 그 날 밤과 낮, 그리고 그 다음 날 저녁까지 메추라기를 잡았는데 가장 적게 잡은 사람도 약 10가마 정도 잡았다. 그리고 그들은 그것을 말리려고 진영 주변에 사방 널어 놓았다.

그러나 그들이 그 고기를 입 안에 넣고 씹기도 전에 여호와께서 노하셔서 무서운 재앙으로 그들을 수없이 죽이셨다.

But Moses said to him, "Are you jealous for my sake? Would that all the LORD'S people were prophets, that the LORD would put His Spirit upon them!"

Then Moses returned to the camp, both he and the elders of Israel.

Now there went forth a wind from the LORD and it brought quail from the sea, and let them fall beside the camp, about a day's journey on this side and a day's journey on the other side, all around the camp and about two cubits deep on the surface of the ground.

The people spent all day and all night and all the next day, and gathered the quail (he who gathered least gathered ten homers) and they spread them out for themselves all around the camp.

While the meat was still between their teeth, before it was chewed, the anger of the LORD was kindled against the people, and the LORD struck the people with a very severe plague.

그래서 그 곳을 '탐욕의 무덤'이라고 불렀다. 그것은 고기에 대한 탐욕을 가진 사람들을 거기에 매장하였기 때문이었다.

백성들은 거기서 떠나 하세롯에 가서 진을 치고 머물렀다.

So the name of that place was called Kibroth-hattaavah, because there they buried the people who had been greedy.

From Kibroth-hattaavah the people set out for Hazeroth, and they remained at Hazeroth.

어느 날 미리암과 아론이 모세가 구스 여자와 결혼한 것을 비난하며

'여호와가 모세를 통해서만 말씀하셨느냐? 우리를 통해서도 말씀하시지 않았느냐?' 하고 투덜대자 여호와께서 이 말을 들으셨다.

모세는 세상의 그 누구보다도 겸손한 사람이었다.

여호와께서 갑자기 모세와 아론과 미리암에게 '너희 세 사람은 모두 성막으로 나오너라.' 하고 말씀하셨다. 그래서 그들이 성막으로 나아가자

여호와께서 구름 기둥 가운데 내려와 성막 입구에 서서 아론과 미리암을 부르셨다. 그들이 앞으로 나아가자

Then Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses because of the Cushite woman whom he had married (for he had married a Cushite woman);

and they said, "Has the LORD indeed spoken only through Moses? Has He not spoken through us as well?" And the LORD heard it.

(Now the man Moses was very humble, more than any man who was on the face of the earth.)

Suddenly the LORD said to Moses and Aaron and to Miriam, "You three come out to the tent of meeting." So the three of them came out.

Then the LORD came down in a pillar of cloud and stood at the doorway of the tent, and He called Aaron and Miriam. When they had both come forward,

여호와께서 이렇게 말씀하셨다. '내가 하는 말을 잘 들어라. 예언자에게는 내가 환상으로 나를 나타내며 꿈으로 말하지만

내 종 모세에게는 그렇게 하지 않는다. 그는 내 집에 충성스러운 종이므로

내가 그와 말 할 때는 직접 대면하여 분명하게 말하고 모호한 말로 하지 않는다. 내 종 모세는 내 모습까지 보는 자인데 너희가 어떻게 두려운 줄 모르고 감히 그를 비난하느냐?'

여호와께서 그들에게 분노하시고 떠나시자

구름이 성막 위에서 사라지고 미리암은 갑자기 문둥병에 걸려 온 몸이 하얗게 되었다. 아론이 이것을 보고

He said, "Hear now My words: If there is a prophet among you, I, the LORD, shall make Myself known to him in a vision I shall speak with him in a dream.

"Not so, with My servant Moses, He is faithful in all My household;

With him I speak mouth to mouth, Even openly, and not in dark sayings, And he beholds the form of the LORD. Why then were you not afraid To speak against My servant, against Moses?"

So the anger of the LORD burned against them and He departed.

But when the cloud had withdrawn from over the tent, behold, Miriam was leprous, as white as snow. As Aaron turned toward Miriam, behold, she was leprous.

모세에게 '우리가 어리석었네. 우리의 잘못을 용서해 주게.

제발 누님이 모태에서 살이 반이나 썩어 죽어서 나온 아기처럼 되지 않게 해 다오.' 하였다.

그래서 모세가 여호와께 '하나님이시여, 누님을 고쳐 주소서.' 하고 부르짖자

여호와께서 모세에게 말씀하셨다. '만일 그 아버지가 그녀에게 침을 뱉었어도 7일간은 부끄러워하지 않겠느냐? 그러므로 너는 그녀를 7일 동안 진영 밖에 가두어 두었다가 그 기간이 지나면 다시 들어오게 하여라.'

그래서 미리암은 7일 동안 진영 밖에 갇혀 있었으며 백성들은 그녀가 다시 들어올 때까지 행진하지 않았다.

Then Aaron said to Moses, "Oh, my lord, I beg you, do not account this sin to us, in which we have acted foolishly and in which we have sinned.

"Oh, do not let her be like one dead, whose flesh is half eaten away when he comes from his mother's womb!"

Moses cried out to the LORD, saying, "O God, heal her, I pray!"

But the LORD said to Moses, "If her father had but spit in her face, would she not bear her shame for seven days? Let her be shut up for seven days outside the camp, and afterward she may be received again."

So Miriam was shut up outside the camp for seven days, and the people did not move on until Miriam was received again.

그 후에 그들은 하세롯을 떠나 바란 광야에 진을 쳤다.

Afterward, however, the people moved out from Hazeroth and camped in the wilderness of Paran.

	가나안 정탐(13:1-13:33)

여호와께서 모세에게 '너는 각 지파의 지도자들 가운데 한 사람씩 뽑아 내가 너희에게 줄 가나안 땅을 탐지해 오게 하라.' 하고 말씀하셨다.

(1절과 같음)

그래서 모세는 여호와의 명령대로 바란 광야에서 각 지파의 지도자들을 뽑아 정찰대원으로 파견했는데

그들은 다음과 같다. 르우벤 지파에서 삭굴의 아들 삼무아,

시므온 지파에서 호리의 아들 사밧,

Then the LORD spoke to Moses saying,

"Send out for yourself men so that they may spy out the land of Canaan, which I am going to give to the sons of Israel; you shall send a man from each of their fathers' tribes, every one a leader among them."

So Moses sent them from the wilderness of Paran at the command of the LORD, all of them men who were heads of the sons of Israel.

These then were their names: from the tribe of Reuben, Shammua the son of Zaccur;

from the tribe of Simeon, Shaphat the son of Hori;

유다 지파에서 여분네의 아들 갈렙,

잇사갈 지파에서 요셉의 아들 이갈,

에브라임 지파에서 눈의 아들 호세아,

베냐민 지파에서 라부의 아들 발디,

스불론 지파에서 소디의 아들 갓디엘,

from the tribe of Judah, Caleb the son of Jephunneh;

from the tribe of Issachar, Igal the son of Joseph;

from the tribe of Ephraim, Hoshea the son of Nun;

from the tribe of Benjamin, Palti the son of Raphu;

from the tribe of Zebulun, Gaddiel the son of Sodi;

므낫세 지파에서 수시의 아들 갓디,

단 지파에서 그말리의 아들 암미엘,

아셀 지파에서 미가엘의 아들 스둘,

납달리 지파에서 웝시의 아들 나비,

갓 지파에서 마기의 아들 그우엘이었다.

from the tribe of Joseph, from the tribe of Manasseh, Gaddi the son of Susi;

from the tribe of Dan, Ammiel the son of Gemalli;

from the tribe of Asher, Sethur the son of Michael;

from the tribe of Naphtali, Nahbi the son of Vophsi;

from the tribe of Gad, Geuel the son of Machi.

이상은 모세가 가나안 땅을 탐지하러 보낸 정찰대원들이다. 모세는 눈의 아들 호세아의 이름을 여호수아로 고쳤다.

모세는 정찰대원들을 가나안 땅으로 보내면서 이렇게 지시하였다. '너희는 여기서 북쪽으로 올라가 가나안 남쪽 지방인 네겝으로 가서 산간 지대로 들어가

그 땅의 지형을 살피고 거기에 살고 있는 사람들이 강한지 약한지, 인구는 얼마나 되는지

그들이 사는 땅이 좋은지 나쁜지, 그리고 그들이 어떤 도시에 살고 있으며 거기에 성벽이 있는지 없는지,

또 그 땅 토질이 비옥한지 메마른지, 나무들은 있는지 없는지 알아보고 오너라. 그리고 잊지 말고 그 땅의 과일을 가져오너라.' (그 때는 포도가 익기 시작하는 계절이었다.)

These are the names of the men whom Moses sent to spy out the land; but Moses called Hoshea the son of Nun, Joshua.

When Moses sent them to spy out the land of Canaan, he said to them, "Go up there into the Negev; then go up into the hill country.

"See what the land is like, and whether the people who live in it are strong or weak, whether they are few or many.

"How is the land in which they live, is it good or bad? And how are the cities in which they live, are they like open camps or with fortifications?

"How is the land, is it fat or lean? Are there trees in it or not? Make an effort then to get some of the fruit of the land." Now the time was the time of the first ripe grapes.

그래서 그들은 북쪽으로 가서 진 광야에서부터 하맛 근처 르홉에 이르는 모든 땅을 탐지하였으며

가나안 남쪽 네겝을 거쳐 헤브론에 도착하였다. 그곳은 이집트의 소안보다 7년 먼저 건설된 곳으로 아낙 후손인 아히만과 세새와 달매 자손들이 살고 있었다.

그들은 또 에스골 골짜기로 들어가 포도 한송이가 달린 가지를 꺾어서 막대기에 꿰어 두 사람이 메고 또 석류와 무화과도 따서 가지고 왔다.

이스라엘 사람들이 거기서 포도송이를 땄으므로 그 곳을 '에스골' 골짜기라고 불렀다.

그들은 40일 동안 그 땅을 탐지하고 돌아와서

So they went up and spied out the land from the wilderness of Zin as far as Rehob, at Lebo-hamath.

When they had gone up into the Negev, they came to Hebron where Ahiman, Sheshai and Talmai, the descendants of Anak were (Now Hebron was built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.)

Then they came to the valley of Eshcol and from there cut down a branch with a single cluster of grapes; and they carried it on a pole between two men, with some of the pomegranates and the figs.

That place was called the valley of Eshcol, because of the cluster which the sons of Israel cut down from there.

When they returned from spying out the land, at the end of forty days,

바란 광야 가데스에 있는 모세와 아론과 모든 이스라엘 백성에게 자기들이 본 것을 이야기하며 가지고 온 과일을 보여 주었다.

그리고 그들은 모세에게 이렇게 보고하였다. '우리가 그 곳에 가 보니 정말 기름지고 비옥한 땅이었습니다. 이것이 거기서 가져온 과일입니다.

그러나 그곳에 살고 있는 사람들은 강할 뿐만 아니라 그들의 도시들은 아주 크고 성곽으로 둘러싸인 요새였습니다. 게다가 거기에는 거인 아낙 자손까지 살고 있었습니다.

그리고 그 땅의 남쪽 지방인 네겝에는 아말렉족이 산간 지방에는 헷족과 여부스족과 아모리족이, 지중해 연안과 요단 강변에는 가나안족이 살고 있었습니다.'

갈렙이 모세 앞에 있는 백성들을 안심시키며 '자, 올라가서 그 땅을 점령합시다. 우리는 충분히 그들을 이길 수 있습니다.' 하자

they proceeded to come to Moses and Aaron and to all the congregation of the sons of Israel in the wilderness of Paran, at Kadesh; and they brought back word to them and to all the congregation and showed them the fruit of the land.

Thus they told him, and said, "We went in to the land where you sent us; and it certainly does flow with milk and honey, and this is its fruit.

"Nevertheless, the people who live in the land are strong, and the cities are fortified and very large; and moreover, we saw the descendants of Anak there.

"Amalek is living in the land of the Negev and the Hittites and the Jebusites and the Amorites are living in the hill country, and the Canaanites are living by the sea and by the side of the Jordan."

Then Caleb quieted the people before Moses and said, "We should by all means go up and take possession of it, for we will surely overcome it."

'그렇지 않습니다. 우리는 그들을 당해 낼 수가 없습니다. 그들은 우리보다 훨씬 강합니다.' 하고 다른 정찰대원들이 반박하였다.

그리고 그들은 자기들이 탐지한 땅에 대하여 사람들에게 나쁜 소문을 퍼뜨리며 이렇게 말하였다. '그 땅에는 힘 센 장사들이 수두룩하고 사람들의 키가 모두 컸으며

게다가 우리는 네피림의 후손인 거인 아낙 자손들도 거기 있는 것을 보았습니다. 우리가 보기에도 우리 자신들이 메뚜기처럼 느껴졌는데 그들의 눈에도 우리가 그 정도밖에 보이지 않았을 것입니다.'

But the men who had gone up with him said, "We are not able to go up against the people, for they are too strong for us."

So they gave out to the sons of Israel a bad report of the land which they had spied out, saying, "The land through which we have gone, in spying it out, is a land that devours its inhabitants; and all the people whom we saw in it are men of great size.

"There also we saw the Nephilim (the sons of Anak are part of the Nephilim); and we became like grasshoppers in our own sight, and so we were in their sight."
