사사기 7:1-8:35

 기드온은 하나님의 지시에 따라 300명의 용사를 선발하여 미디안 대군을 물리쳤다. 미디안과의 전쟁에 동참하도록 부르지 않은 것을 분내는 에브라임 사람들에게 기드온은 겸손한 대답을 함으로 그들의 분노를 가라앉히고 나머지 전투를 마무리했다. 왕이 되어 달라는 이스라엘 백성들의 요구를 거절한 기드온은 에봇을 만들어 스스로 올무에 빠지게 되었고, 그가 죽은 후 백성들은 다시 죄악에 빠졌다.
  
  기드온의 승리(7:1-8:35)    
 
  1. 그때 기드온과 그를 따르는 모든 백성이 아침 일찍 일어나 하롯샘 곁에 진을 쳤고 미디안군은 그들의 북쪽 모레산 곁에 있는 골짜기에 진을 쳤다.
  2. 여호와께서 기드온에게 말씀하셨다. '너와 함께 있는 백성이 너무 많아서 내가 미디안 사람들을 너희 손에 넘겨 주지 않겠다. 그들이 만일 전쟁에 이기면 자기들 힘으로 이긴 줄 알고 교만할 것이다.
  3. 그러므로 너는 백성들에게 두려워서 떠는 자는 누구든지 이 곳 길르앗산을 떠나 집으로 돌아가라고 말하라.' 그래서 22,000명이 돌아가고 10,000명만 남았다.
  4. 그러나 여호와께서 기드온에게 다시 말씀하셨다. '아직도 너무 많다 너는 그들을 강가로 데리고 가거라. 내가 거기서 너와 함께 싸우러 갈 사람과 가지 않을 사람을 구별하여 너에게 보여 주겠다.'
  5. 그래서 기드온은 그들을 물가로 데리고 갔다. 그때 여호와께서 그에게 '개처럼 혀로 물을 핥아 먹는 사람과 무릎을 꿇어 마시는 사람을 따로따로 세워라' 하고 말씀하셨다.
  1. Then Jerubbaal (that is, Gideon) and all the people who were with him, rose early and camped beside the spring of Harod; and the camp of Midian was on the north side of them by the hill of Moreh in the valley.
  2. The LORD said to Gideon, "The people who are with you are too many for Me to give Midian into their hands, for Israel would become boastful, saying, 'My own power has delivered me.'
  3. "Now therefore come, proclaim in the hearing of the people, saying, 'Whoever is afraid and trembling, let him return and depart from Mount Gilead.'" So 22,000 people returned, but 10,000 remained.
  4. Then the LORD said to Gideon, "The people are still too many; bring them down to the water and I will test them for you there. Therefore it shall be that he of whom I say to you, 'This one shall go with you,' he shall go with you; but everyone of whom I say to you, 'This one shall not go with you,' he shall not go."
  5. So he brought the people down to the water. And the LORD said to Gideon, "You shall separate everyone who laps the water with his tongue as a dog laps, as well as everyone who kneels to drink."
  1. 그러자 손으로 물을 움켜서 핥아 먹은 사람은 300명이었고 그 나머지 사람들은 모두 무릎을 꿇고 물을 마셨다.
  2. 그때 여호와께서 기드온에게 말씀하셨다. '내가 물을 핥아 먹은 300명으로 너희를 구원하고 미디안 사람들을 너희 손에 넘겨 주겠다. 너는 그 나머지 사람들을 다 집으로 돌려보내라.'
  3. 그래서 기드온은 300명을 제외한 나머지 사람들을 모두 집으로 돌려보냈으며 남은 300명은 돌아가는 사람들에게서 식량과 나팔을 인수하였다. 그때 미디안군은 이스라엘 군이 있는 골짜기 아래쪽에 진을 치고 있었다.
  4. 그 날 밤 여호와께서 기드온에게 말씀하셨다. '너는 일어나 미디안군의 진지를 공격하라. 내가 그들을 네 손에 넘겨 주겠다.
  5. 그러나 만일 네가 공격하는 것이 두려우면 네 부하 부라를 데리고 그 진지로 가서
  1. Now the number of those who lapped, putting their hand to their mouth, was 300 men; but all the rest of the people kneeled to drink water.
  2. The LORD said to Gideon, "I will deliver you with the 300 men who lapped and will give the Midianites into your hands; so let all the other people go, each man to his home."
  3. So the 300 men took the people's provisions and their trumpets into their hands. And Gideon sent all the other men of Israel, each to his tent, but retained the 300 men; and the camp of Midian was below him in the valley.
  4. Now the same night it came about that the LORD said to him, "Arise, go down against the camp, for I have given it into your hands.
  5. "But if you are afraid to go down, go with Purah your servant down to the camp,

  4. 그때 그 친구가 대답하였다. '그것은 이스라엘 사람 요아스의 아들, 기드온의 칼날이야. 하나님이 미디안과 우리 모든 군대를 그의 손에 넘기셨다는 뜻일세'
  5. 기드온이 그 꿈 이야기와 해몽을 듣고 하나님께 경배한 후 이스라엘 진지로 돌아와서 외쳤다. '일어나시오! 여호와께서 미디안군을 다 여러분에게 넘겨 주셨습니다!'
  1. and you will hear what they say; and afterward your hands will be strengthened that you may go down against the camp." So he went with Purah his servant down to the outposts of the army that was in the camp.
  2. Now the Midianites and the Amalekites and all the sons of the east were lying in the valley as numerous as locusts; and their camels were without number, as numerous as the sand on the seashore.
  3. When Gideon came, behold, a man was relating a dream to his friend. And he said, "Behold, I had a dream; a loaf of barley bread was tumbling into the camp of Midian, and it came to the tent and struck it so that it fell, and turned it upside down so that the tent lay flat."
  4. His friend replied, "This is nothing less than the sword of Gideon the son of Joash, a man of Israel; God has given Midian and all the camp into his hand."
  5. When Gideon heard the account of the dream and its interpretation, he bowed in worship. He returned to the camp of Israel and said, "Arise, for the LORD has given the camp of Midian into your hands."
  1. 그리고서 그는 300명의 병력을 세 부대로 나누고 각 병사에게 횃불이 든 항아리와 나팔을 주면서

  5. 다른 두 부대도 그들을 따라 일제히 왼손에 든 항아리를 부수어 횃불을 높이 들고 오른손에 든 나팔을 불며 '여호와와 기드온을 위한 칼이다' 하고 외쳤다.
  1. He divided the 300 men into three companies, and he put trumpets and empty pitchers into the hands of all of them, with torches inside the pitchers.
  2. He said to them, "Look at me and do likewise. And behold, when I come to the outskirts of the camp, do as I do.
  3. "When I and all who are with me blow the trumpet, then you also blow the trumpets all around the camp and say, 'For the LORD and for Gideon.'"
  4. So Gideon and the hundred men who were with him came to the outskirts of the camp at the beginning of the middle watch, when they had just posted the watch; and they blew the trumpets and smashed the pitchers that were in their hands.
  5. When the three companies blew the trumpets and broke the pitchers, they held the torches in their left hands and the trumpets in their right hands for blowing, and cried, "A sword for the LORD and for Gideon!"
  1. 그들이 각자 자기 위치에 서서 그 진지를 포위하자 적군은 놀라 아우성 치며 허둥지둥 달아나기 시작하였다.
  2. 기드온의 300명 용사가 나팔을 부는 동안 여호와께서는 그들을 혼란 가운데 빠뜨려 자기들끼리 서로 치게 하셨다. 그들이 멀리 답밧 부근 아벨-므홀라 경계선까지 스레라 쪽을 향해 벧-싯다로 도망하자
  3. 납달리 지파와 아셀 지파와 므낫세 지파에서 소집된 이스라엘군이 그들을 추격하였다.
  4. 그리고 기브온은 에브라임 산간 지대 전역에 사람을 보내 이렇게 말하였다. '여러분은 내려와서 미디안군을 치고 그들을 앞질러 벧-바라까지 요단강 나루터를 장악하여 한 사람도 건너가지 못하게 하시오. 그래서 에브라임 사람들이 다 소집되어 벧-바라까지 요단강 나루터를 장악하고
  5. 미디안군의 두 장군 오렙과 스엡을 생포하여 오렙은 바위 위에서 죽였고 스엡은 포도주틀에서 죽였다. 그래서 그 바위를 '오렙 바위'라 불렀고 그 포도주틀을 '스엡 포도주틀'라고 불렀다. 그리고 이스라엘군은 계속 미디안군을 추격하고 오렙과 스엡의 머리를 잘라 요단강 저편에 있는 기드온에게 갖다 주었다.
  1. Each stood in his place around the camp; and all the army ran, crying out as they fled.
  2. When they blew 300 trumpets, the LORD set the sword of one against another even throughout the whole army; and the army fled as far as Beth-shittah toward Zererah, as far as the edge of Abel-meholah, by Tabbath.
  3. The men of Israel were summoned from Naphtali and Asher and all Manasseh, and they pursued Midian.
  4. Gideon sent messengers throughout all the hill country of Ephraim, saying, "Come down against Midian and take the waters before them, as far as Beth-barah and the Jordan." So all the men of Ephraim were summoned and they took the waters as far as Beth-barah and the Jordan.
  5. They captured the two leaders of Midian, Oreb and Zeeb, and they killed Oreb at the rock of Oreb, and they killed Zeeb at the wine press of Zeeb, while they pursued Midian; and they brought the heads of Oreb and Zeeb to Gideon from across the Jordan.
 
 
  1. 그때 에브라임 사람들이 기드온에게 몹시 화를 내며 '당신이 처음 미디안 사람과 싸우러 갈 때 어째서 우리를 부르지 않았습니까?' 하고 따졌다.
  2. 그래서 기드온이 이렇게 대답하였다. '내가 한 일이 당신들이 한 일에 비교나 되겠소? 에브라임의 제일 못한 포도가 아비에셀의 제일 좋은 포도보다 낫지 않소?
  3. 하나님이 미디안의 두 장군 오렙과 스엡을 당신들의 손에 넘겨 주셨는데 내가 한 일이 당신들이 한 일에 어디 비교나 되겠소?' 그제서야 그들의 화가 풀렸다.
  4. 그리고서 기드온은 그의 용사 300명을 거느리고 요단강을 건너갔다. 그들은 몹시 지치고 피곤했지만 계속 적군을 추격하였다.
  5. 그들이 숙곳에 도착했을 때 기드온이 그 곳 주민들에게 말하였다. '내 부하들에게 빵을 좀 주시오. 그들은 몹시 지쳐 있소. 우리는 지금 미디안 왕 세바와 살문나를 뒤쫓고 있는 중이오.'
  1. Then the men of Ephraim said to him, "What is this thing you have done to us, not calling us when you went to fight against Midian?" And they contended with him vigorously.
  2. But he said to them, "What have I done now in comparison with you? Is not the gleaning of the grapes of Ephraim better than the vintage of Abiezer?
  3. "God has given the leaders of Midian, Oreb and Zeeb into your hands; and what was I able to do in comparison with you?" Then their anger toward him subsided when he said that.
  4. Then Gideon and the 300 men who were with him came to the Jordan and crossed over, weary yet pursuing.
  5. He said to the men of Succoth, "Please give loaves of bread to the people who are following me, for they are weary, and I am pursuing Zebah and Zalmunna, the kings of Midian."
  1. 그러나 숙곳 지도자들은 '당신이 아직 세바와 살문나를 잡지도 못했는데 어째서 우리가 당신의 부하들에게 음식을 주어야 합니까?' 하고 대답하였다.
  2. 그래서 기드온이 그들에게 경고하였다. '여호와께서 세바와 살문나를 내 손에 넘겨 주신 후에 내가 돌아와서 들가시와 찔레로 당신들의 살을 찢어 버리겠소'
  3. 거기서 기드온은 브누엘로 올라가 그 곳 주민들에게도 똑같은 요구를 했으나 그들도 숙곳 사람들과 같은 대답을 하였다.
  4. 그래서 기드온은 그들에게 '내가 임무를 마치고 돌아올 때 이 망대를 헐어 버릴 테니 두고 보시오.' 하였다.
  5. 이때 세바와 살문나는 패잔병 15,000명과 함께 갈골에 있었는데 그들은 미디안군을 지원한 동방 군대의 잔류병들이었으며 그들의 병력 120,000명은 이미 죽임을 당하였다.
  1. The leaders of Succoth said, "Are the hands of Zebah and Zalmunna already in your hands, that we should give bread to your army?"
  2. Gideon said, "All right, when the LORD has given Zebah and Zalmunna into my hand, then I will thrash your bodies with the thorns of the wilderness and with briers."
  3. He went up from there to Penuel and spoke similarly to them; and the men of Penuel answered him just as the men of Succoth had answered.
  4. So he spoke also to the men of Penuel, saying, "When I return safely, I will tear down this tower."
  5. Now Zebah and Zalmunna were in Karkor, and their armies with them, about 15,000 men, all who were left of the entire army of the sons of the east; for the fallen were 120,000 swordsmen.
  1. 그래서 기드온은 노바와 욕브하 동쪽 대상들의 길을 따라 올라가서 그들에게 기습 공격을 가하였다.
  2. 세바와 살문나가 도망하자 기드온은 그들을 추격하여 생포하고 그들의 전 군대를 참패시켰다.

  4. 숙곳 청년 한 사람을 잡아 심문하였다. 그러자 그가 숙곳의 지도급 인사 77명의 이름을 밝혔다.
  5. 그래서 기드온이 숙곳 사람들에게 가서 말하였다. '당신들은 내가 세바와 살문나를 잡아오지 않았다고 비웃으며 지쳐 있는 내 부하들에게 음식을 주지 않았소. 자, 보시오. 세바와 살문나가 여기 있소'
  1. Gideon went up by the way of those who lived in tents on the east of Nobah and Jogbehah, and attacked the camp when the camp was unsuspecting.
  2. When Zebah and Zalmunna fled, he pursued them and captured the two kings of Midian, Zebah and Zalmunna, and routed the whole army.
  3. Then Gideon the son of Joash returned from the battle by the ascent of Heres.
  4. And he captured a youth from Succoth and questioned him. Then the youth wrote down for him the princes of Succoth and its elders, seventy-seven men.
  5. He came to the men of Succoth and said, "Behold Zebah and Zalmunna, concerning whom you taunted me, saying, 'Are the hands of Zebah and Zalmunna already in your hand, that we should give bread to your men who are weary?'"
  1. 그리고서 그는 그 성의 지도자들을 잡아들여 들가시와 찔레로 그들을 쳐서 벌하고 숙곳 사람들에게 본때를 보여 주었다.

  1. He took the elders of the city, and thorns of the wilderness and briers, and he disciplined the men of Succoth with them.
  2. He tore down the tower of Penuel and killed the men of the city.
  3. Then he said to Zebah and Zalmunna, "What kind of men were they whom you killed at Tabor?" And they said, "They were like you, each one resembling the son of a king."
  4. He said, "They were my brothers, the sons of my mother. As the LORD lives, if only you had let them live, I would not kill you."
  5. So he said to Jether his firstborn, "Rise, kill them." But the youth did not draw his sword, for he was afraid, because he was still a youth.
  1. 그때 세바와 살문나가 기드온에게 '네가 직접 우리를 죽여라. 어린애 손에 죽느니 차라리 네 손에 죽겠다.' 하였다. 그래서 기드온은 그들을 죽이고 그들의 낙타 목에 달려 있던 장식품을 떼어 가졌다.
  2. 그 후에 이스라엘 사람들이 기드온에게 '당신이 우리를 미디안 사람의 손에서 구원해 내었으니 당신과 당신의 자손이 우리의 통치자가 되십시오.' 하였으나
  3. 기드온은 이렇게 대답하였다. '나는 당신들의 통치자가 되지 않겠소. 물론 내 아들도 마찬가지요. 다만 여호와께서 당신들을 다스릴 것입니다.
  4. 그러나 내가 당신들에게 한 가지 부탁할 것이 있소. 당신들이 적군에게서 빼앗은 귀고리를 나에게 주시오.' (미디안군은 이스마엘 사람이므로 모두 금귀고리를 달고 있었다.)
  5. 그러자 그들은 '기꺼이 드리겠습니다.' 하며 겉옷을 펴고 모두 자기들이 빼앗은 귀고리를 내어 놓았다.
  1. Then Zebah and Zalmunna said, "Rise up yourself, and fall on us; for as the man, so is his strength." So Gideon arose and killed Zebah and Zalmunna, and took the crescent ornaments which were on their camels' necks.
  2. Then the men of Israel said to Gideon, "Rule over us, both you and your son, also your son's son, for you have delivered us from the hand of Midian."
  3. But Gideon said to them, "I will not rule over you, nor shall my son rule over you; the LORD shall rule over you."
  4. Yet Gideon said to them, "I would request of you, that each of you give me an earring from his spoil." (For they had gold earrings, because they were Ishmaelites.)
  5. They said, "We will surely give them." So they spread out a garment, and every one of them threw an earring there from his spoil.
  1. 기드온이 받은 금귀고리는 약 19.4킬로그램이었다. 여기에는 초생달 모양의 장식품과 귀한 패물과 미디안 왕들이 입었던 자색 옷과 낙타 목에 둘렀던 사슬은 포함되지 않았다.
  2. 기드온은 그 금을 가지고 에봇 하나를 만들어 자기 고향 오브라에 두었다. 그러나 모든 이스라엘 사람이 그것을 섬기고 절하므로 그것이 기드온과 그 가족에게 덫이 되었다.
  3. 이렇게 해서 미디안은 이스라엘 사람에게 굴복하여 다시는 일어나지 못했으며 그 땅에는 기드온이 죽기까지 40년 동안 평화가 있었다.
  4. 요아스의 아들 기드온은 자기 집으로 돌아가 살았다.
  5. 그에게는 아내가 많으므로 아들이 70명이나 되었으며
  1. The weight of the gold earrings that he requested was 1,700 shekels of gold, besides the crescent ornaments and the pendants and the purple robes which were on the kings of Midian, and besides the neck bands that were on their camels' necks.
  2. Gideon made it into an ephod, and placed it in his city, Ophrah, and all Israel played the harlot with it there, so that it became a snare to Gideon and his household.
  3. So Midian was subdued before the sons of Israel, and they did not lift up their heads anymore. And the land was undisturbed for forty years in the days of Gideon.
  4. Then Jerubbaal the son of Joash went and lived in his own house.
  5. Now Gideon had seventy sons who were his direct descendants, for he had many wives.
  1. 또 세겜에도 첩이 있어서 아들을 낳았는데 그의 이름은 아비멜렉이었다.
  2. 기드온이 나이 많아 죽자 아비에셀 사람의 땅, 오브라에 있는 그의 아버지 요아스의 묘실에 장사되었다.
  3. 그러나 기드온이 죽은 후에 이스라엘 백성은 바알 우상을 섬기고 바알-브릿을 자기들의 신으로 삼았다.
  4. 그들은 사방의 모든 원수들에게서 자기들을 구해 주신 그들의 하나님 여호와를 기억하지 않았고
  5. 또 기드온이 이스라엘을 위해 행한 일에 대해서 그 가족을 후대하지도 않았다.
  1. His concubine who was in Shechem also bore him a son, and he named him Abimelech.
  2. And Gideon the son of Joash died at a ripe old age and was buried in the tomb of his father Joash, in Ophrah of the Abiezrites.
  3. Then it came about, as soon as Gideon was dead, that the sons of Israel again played the harlot with the Baals, and made Baal-berith their god.
  4. Thus the sons of Israel did not remember the LORD their God, who had delivered them from the hands of all their enemies on every side;
  5. nor did they show kindness to the household of Jerubbaal (that is, Gideon) in accord with all the good that he had done to Israel.
