사무엘상 3:1-5:12

 하나님께서 어린 사무엘을 부르셔서 엘리 집안의 파멸을 예고하셨고 사무엘은 이것을 엘리에게 말했다. 이스라엘은 블레셋과의 전투에서 패하자 하나님의 궤를 전쟁터로 가져왔으나, 오히려 법궤마저 빼앗기고 엘리의 두 아들들도 죽고 말았다. 그 소식을 들은 엘리는 충격으로 죽었다. 블레셋으로 옮겨진 법궤가 가는 곳마다 큰 재앙이 임했다.
  
  부름받은 사무엘(3:1-3:21)    
 
  1. 어린 사무엘이 엘리 밑에서 여호와를 섬기고 있을 당시에는 여호와의 말씀을 듣기가 매우 힘들었고 환상을 보는 일도 거의 없었다.
  2. 그러던 어느 날 밤 눈이 어두워 잘 보지 못하는 엘리는 자기 방에 가서 누웠고
  3. 사무엘은 법궤가 있는 여호와의 성전에 누웠으며 하나님의 등불은 아직 꺼지지 않았다.
  4. 이때 여호와께서 '사무엘아! 사무엘아!' 하고 부르셨다. 그러자 사무엘은 '예, 네가 여기 있습니다.' 하며
  5. 엘리에게 달려가서 '나를 부르셨습니까? 내가 여기왔습니다.' 하고 말하였다. 그러나 엘리는 '내가 너를 부르지 않았다. 도로 가서 자리에 누워라' 하였다. 그래서 사무엘은 다시 잠자리에 들었다.
  1. Now the boy Samuel was ministering to the LORD before Eli And word from the LORD was rare in those days, visions were infrequent.
  2. It happened at that time as Eli was lying down in his place (now his eyesight had begun to grow dim and he could not see well),
  3. and the lamp of God had not yet gone out, and Samuel was lying down in the temple of the LORD where the ark of God was,
  4. that the LORD called Samuel; and he said, "Here I am."
  5. Then he ran to Eli and said, "Here I am, for you called me." But he said, "I did not call, lie down again." So he went and lay down.
  1. 여호와께서 다시 '사무엘아!' 하고 부르셨다. 그래서 사무엘이 일어나 다시 엘리에게 가서 '나를 부르셨습니까? 내가 여기 왔습니다.' 하자 엘리는 '얘야, 아니다. 내가 너를 부르지 않았다. 가서 자거라' 하고 대답하였다.
  2. 이때까지 사무엘은 여호와를 알지 못하였고 그분의 말씀을 들어 본 적도 없었다.
  3. 여호와께서 세 번째 사무엘을 부르셨다. 그래서 사무엘은 이번에도 벌떡 일어나 엘리에게 달려가서 '나를 부르셨습니까? 내가 여기 왔습니다.' 하였다. 그제서야 엘리는 여호와에서 사무엘을 부르신 줄 알고
  4. 그에게 말하였다. '돌아가서 누워 있다가 다시 부르는 소리가 나면 여호와여, 말씀하소서. 주의 종이 듣겠습니다 하고 말하여라.' 그래서 사무엘은 다시 가서 자리에 누웠다.
  5. 그러자 여호와께서 찾아오셔서 전과 같이 '사무엘아! 사무엘아!' 하고 부르셨다. 그래서 사무엘은 '말씀하소서. 주의 종이 듣겠습니다.' 하고 대답하였다.
  1. The LORD called yet again, "Samuel!" So Samuel arose and went to Eli and said, "Here I am, for you called me." But he answered, "I did not call, my son, lie down again."
  2. Now Samuel did not yet know the LORD, nor had the word of the LORD yet been revealed to him.
  3. So the LORD called Samuel again for the third time. And he arose and went to Eli and said, "Here I am, for you called me." Then Eli discerned that the LORD was calling the boy.
  4. And Eli said to Samuel, "Go lie down, and it shall be if He calls you, that you shall say, 'Speak, LORD, for Your servant is listening.'" So Samuel went and lay down in his place.
  5. Then the LORD came and stood and called as at other times, "Samuel! Samuel!" And Samuel said, "Speak, for Your servant is listening."
  1. 그때 여호와께서 사무엘에게 이렇게 말씀하셨다. '나는 이스라엘 사람들이 듣고 깜짝 놀랄 만한 일을 하려고 한다.
  2. 내가 엘리의 집안에 대하여 경고한 그 모든 일을 처음부터 끝까지 다 실행하고야 말겠다.
  3. 나는 엘리의 아들들이 행하는 악에 대해서 그 가족을 영원히 심판하겠다고 그에게 말해 주었으나 그는 자기 아들들이 저주받을 짓을 계속하는 것을 보고도 그것을 제지하지 않았다.
  4. 그래서 나는 엘리 집안의 죄가 제물이나 예물로써는 절대로 용서받지 못할 것이라고 그에게 선언하였다.'
  5. 사무엘은 아침까지 누워 있다가 평소 때와 같이 성전 문을 열었다. 그러나 그는 자기가 들은 말씀을 엘리에게 알리기를 두려워하였다.
  1. The LORD said to Samuel, "Behold, I am about to do a thing in Israel at which both ears of everyone who hears it will tingle.
  2. "In that day I will carry out against Eli all that I have spoken concerning his house, from beginning to end.
  3. "For I have told him that I am about to judge his house forever for the iniquity which he knew, because his sons brought a curse on themselves and he did not rebuke them.
  4. "Therefore I have sworn to the house of Eli that the iniquity of Eli's house shall not be atoned for by sacrifice or offering forever."
  5. So Samuel lay down until morning. Then he opened the doors of the house of the LORD But Samuel was afraid to tell the vision to Eli.
  1. 그때 엘리가 사무엘을 불러 말하였다. '얘, 사무엘아' '예, 내가 여기 있습니다.'
  2. '여호와께서 너에게 무슨 말씀을 하셨느냐? 모든 것을 나에게 말하여라. 만일 네가 하나라도 숨기면 하나님이 너에게 엄한 벌을 내리시기 원한다.'
  3. 그래서 사무엘은 하나도 숨기지 않고 엘리에게 모든 것을 그대로 말하였다. 그러자 엘리가 '그것은 여호와의 뜻이므로 그분이 좋을 대로 하실 것이다.' 하였다.
  4. 사무엘이 점점 성장해 가자 여호와께서는 그와 함께 계셔서 사무엘이 말한 것이 다 이루어지도록 하셨다.
  5. 그래서 단에서 브엘세바에 이르기까지 모든 이스라엘 사람들은 사무엘을 여호와께서 세우신 예언자로 알게 되었다.
  1. Then Eli called Samuel and said, "Samuel, my son." And he said, "Here I am."
  2. He said, "What is the word that He spoke to you? Please do not hide it from me. May God do so to you, and more also, if you hide anything from me of all the words that He spoke to you."
  3. So Samuel told him everything and hid nothing from him. And he said, "It is the LORD; let Him do what seems good to Him."
  4. Thus Samuel grew and the LORD was with him and let none of his words fail.
  5. All Israel from Dan even to Beersheba knew that Samuel was confirmed as a prophet of the LORD.
  1. 그 후에도 여호와께서는 계속 실로에 나타나셔서 사무엘에게 말씀하셨는데 그때마다 사무엘은 그 모든 말씀을 이스라엘 백성에게 전해 주었다.
  1. And the LORD appeared again at Shiloh, because the LORD revealed Himself to Samuel at Shiloh by the word of the LORD.
 
  블레셋과의 전쟁(4:1-4:22)    
 
  1. 그때 블레셋 사람과 이스라엘 사이에 전쟁이 일어나 이스라엘군은 에벤에셀 근처에 포진하고 블레셋군은 아벡에 포진하였다.
  2. 블레셋군이 전열을 갖추고 이스라엘군과 맞서 싸우자 치열한 전투가 벌어졌다. 이 전투에서 이스라엘군은 블레셋군에게 패하여 약 4,000명의 병사가 전사하였다.
  3. 살아 남은 이스라엘군이 진지로 돌아왔을 때 이스라엘 지도자들은 모여서 서로 의논하며 이렇게 말하였다. '왜 여호와께서 오늘 우리를 블레셋 사람에게 패하게 하셨을까? 여호와의 법궤를 실로에서 이리로 가져 오자. 우리가 그것을 전쟁터로 메고 나가면 여호와께서 우리 가운데 계셔서 분명히 우리를 원수들의 손에서 구원하실 것이다.'
  4. 그래서 그들은 실로에 사람을 보내 그룹 천사 사이에 계시는 전능하신 여호와의 법궤를 가져왔는데 엘리의 두 아들 홉니와 비느하스도 그 법궤 곁에 있었다.
  5. 여호와의 법궤가 진지로 들어오자 이스라엘 사람들은 너무 좋아서 땅이 울릴 정도로 함성을 질렀다
  1. Thus the word of Samuel came to all Israel. Now Israel went out to meet the Philistines in battle and camped beside Ebenezer while the Philistines camped in Aphek.
  2. The Philistines drew up in battle array to meet Israel. When the battle spread, Israel was defeated before the Philistines who killed about four thousand men on the battlefield.
  3. When the people came into the camp, the elders of Israel said, "Why has the LORD defeated us today before the Philistines? Let us take to ourselves from Shiloh the ark of the covenant of the LORD, that it may come among us and deliver us from the power of our enemies."
  4. So the people sent to Shiloh, and from there they carried the ark of the covenant of the LORD of hosts who sits above the cherubim; and the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were there with the ark of the covenant of God.
  5. As the ark of the covenant of the LORD came into the camp, all Israel shouted with a great shout, so that the earth resounded.
  1. 이때 블레셋 사람들은 '이게 무슨 소리냐? 히브리 진지에서 큰 소리가 들려온다. 도대체 무슨 일이냐?' 하고 웅성거렸다. 그들은 여호와의 법궤가 이스라엘 진지로 들어갔다는 말을 듣고
  2. 두려워하며 외쳤다. '신이 히브리 진지에 들어갔다. 이제 우리에게 화가 미쳤구나! 전에는 이런 일이 없었다.
  3. 누가 우리를 이 강한 신들의 손에서 구출할 수 있겠는가? 그들은 광야에서 무서운 재앙으로 이집트 군대를 전멸시킨 신들이다.
  4. 너희 블레셋 사람들아, 용기를 내어 대장부답게 싸워라. 그렇지 않으면 그들이 우리 종이 된 것같이 우리가 그들의 종이 될 것이다.'
  5. 그리고서 블레셋 사람들이 필사적으로 이스라엘군을 치자 이스라엘군은 다시 패하여 30,000명의 전사자를 내고 살아 남은 자들은 자기들의 진지로 도망갔으며
  1. When the Philistines heard the noise of the shout, they said, "What does the noise of this great shout in the camp of the Hebrews mean?" Then they understood that the ark of the LORD had come into the camp.
  2. The Philistines were afraid, for they said, "God has come into the camp." And they said, "Woe to us! For nothing like this has happened before.
  3. "Woe to us! Who shall deliver us from the hand of these mighty gods? These are the gods who smote the Egyptians with all kinds of plagues in the wilderness.
  4. "Take courage and be men, O Philistines, or you will become slaves to the Hebrews, as they have been slaves to you; therefore, be men and fight."
  5. So the Philistines fought and Israel was defeated, and every man fled to his tent; and the slaughter was very great, for there fell of Israel thirty thousand foot soldiers.
  1. 하나님의 궤는 빼앗겼고 홉니와 비느하스는 죽임을 당하였다.
  2. 바로 그 날에 어떤 베냐민 사람이 옷을 찢고 머리에 티끌을 끼얹은 채 전쟁터에서 달려와 실로에 도착하였다.
  3. 이때 엘리는 하나님의 궤가 어떻게 되었는지 궁금해서 몹시 걱정하며 길가에 의자를 놓고 앉아 전쟁 소식을 기다리고 있었다. 마침 전쟁터에서 온 그 사람이 성 안에 들어오면서 일어난 일을 다 말하자 성 안의 모든 사람들이 울부짖었다.
  4. 엘리는 성 안이 떠들썩한 소리를 듣고 '이게 무슨 소리냐?' 하고 물었다. 이때 엘리의 나이는 98세였는데 눈이 어두워 제대로 보지 못하였다. 그 사람이 엘리에게 급히 와서 '내가 오늘 전쟁터에서 도망하여 이 곳까지 줄곧 달려왔습니다.' 하자 엘리는 '여보게, 전쟁 결과가 어떻게 되었는가?' 하고 물었다.
  5. (14절과 같음)
  1. And the ark of God was taken; and the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, died.
  2. Now a man of Benjamin ran from the battle line and came to Shiloh the same day with his clothes torn and dust on his head.
  3. When he came, behold, Eli was sitting on his seat by the road eagerly watching, because his heart was trembling for the ark of God. So the man came to tell it in the city, and all the city cried out.
  4. When Eli heard the noise of the outcry, he said, "What does the noise of this commotion mean?" Then the man came hurriedly and told Eli.
  5. Now Eli was ninety-eight years old, and his eyes were set so that he could not see.
  1. (14절과 같음)
  2. 그러자 그가 이렇게 대답하였다. '이스라엘군이 블레셋군에게 패하여 수많은 병사가 전사하였습니다. 그리고 당신의 두 아들 홉니와 비느하스도 죽었으며 살아 남은 자들은 도망하였고 하나님의 궤는 빼앗겼습니다.'
  3. 성전 문 곁 자기 의자에 앉아 있던 엘리는 하나님의 궤가 빼앗겼다는 말을 듣고 그만 나자빠져서 목이 부러져 죽었다. 이것은 그가 나이 많아 늙은 데다가 살까지 쪄서 몸이 무거웠던 탓이었다. 이렇게 해서 그는 40년 동안 이스라엘의 사사가 되어 다스렸다.
  4. 엘리의 며느리인 비느하스의 아내는 임신하여 산기가 가까왔을 때 하나님의 궤를 빼앗긴 일과 시아버지와 자기 남편이 죽었다는 말을 듣고 갑자기 진통을 겪다가 아이를 낳고 다 죽어가고 있었다.
  5. 그녀가 죽기 바로 직전에 옆에 섰던 여자들이 '정신 차려라. 아들이다!' 하고 말해 주었으나 그녀는 아무 대답도 하지 않고 있다가
  1. The man said to Eli, "I am the one who came from the battle line. Indeed, I escaped from the battle line today." And he said, "How did things go, my son?"
  2. Then the one who brought the news replied, "Israel has fled before the Philistines and there has also been a great slaughter among the people, and your two sons also, Hophni and Phinehas, are dead, and the ark of God has been taken."
  3. When he mentioned the ark of God, Eli fell off the seat backward beside the gate, and his neck was broken and he died, for he was old and heavy. Thus he judged Israel forty years.
  4. Now his daughter-in-law, Phinehas's wife, was pregnant and about to give birth; and when she heard the news that the ark of God was taken and that her father-in-law and her husband had died, she kneeled down and gave birth, for her pains came upon her.
  5. And about the time of her death the women who stood by her said to her, "Do not be afraid, for you have given birth to a son." But she did not answer or pay attention.
  1. '영광이 이스라엘에서 떠났다.' 하고 아이 이름을 '이가봇'이라 하였다. 그녀가 이렇게 이름을 지은 것은 하나님의 궤가 빼앗겼고 그녀의 남편과 시아버지가 죽었기 때문이었다.
  2. (21절과 같음)
  1. And she called the boy Ichabod, saying, "The glory has departed from Israel," because the ark of God was taken and because of her father-in-law and her husband.
  2. She said, "The glory has departed from Israel, for the ark of God was taken."
 
  법궤로 인한 블레셋의 재앙(5:1-5:12)    
 
  1. 블레셋 사람들은 하나님의 궤를 뺏은 다음 그것을 에벤에셀에서 아스돗으로 가지고 가 그들의 다곤 신전 안에 있는 다곤 신상 곁에 두었다.
  2. (1절과 같음)
  3. 아스돗 사람들이 다음 날 아침 일찍 일어나 신전에 가 보니 다곤이 얼굴을 땅에 대고 여호와의 궤 앞에 쓰러져 있었다. 그래서 그들은 다곤을 일으켜 다시 제자리에 세워 두었다.
  4. 그런데 그 다음 날 아침에도 같은 일이 일어났다. 전날과 마찬가지로 다곤이 여호와의 궤 앞에 쓰러져 있었는데 이번에는 그 머리와 두 손목이 끊어져 문지방에 얹혀 있었고 몸통만 그대로 남아 있었다.
  5. 그래서 그 후로부터 다곤의 제사장들이나 그 신전에 드나드는 사람들은 아스돗에 있는 다곤 신전의 문지방을 밟지 않았다.
  1. Now the Philistines took the ark of God and brought it from Ebenezer to Ashdod.
  2. Then the Philistines took the ark of God and brought it to the house of Dagon and set it by Dagon.
  3. When the Ashdodites arose early the next morning, behold, Dagon had fallen on his face to the ground before the ark of the LORD So they took Dagon and set him in his place again.
  4. But when they arose early the next morning, behold, Dagon had fallen on his face to the ground before the ark of the LORD. And the head of Dagon and both the palms of his hands were cut off on the threshold; only the trunk of Dagon was left to him.
  5. Therefore neither the priests of Dagon nor all who enter Dagon's house tread on the threshold of Dagon in Ashdod to this day.
  1. 그때 여호와께서는 아스돗 일대에 악성 종기가 퍼지게 하셔서 그 곳 사람들을 무섭게 벌하기 시작하였다.
  2. 아스돗 사람들이 이것을 보고 '우리가 더 이상 이스라엘 신의 궤를 여기에 둘 수 없다. 이러다가는 우리 신 다곤과 함께 모두 전멸하고 말겠다.' 하고 소리를 질렀다.
  3. 그래서 그들은 블레셋 다섯 지방의 통치자들을 불러모으고 그 궤의 처리 문제를 의논한 끝에 가드로 보낼 것을 결정하고 그것을 그리로 옮겼다.
  4. 그러나 그 궤를 옮긴 후에 여호와께서 그 성에도 큰 벌을 내리셔서 젊은 사람 늙은 사람 할 것 없이 모조리 악성 종기에 시달리게 하시므로 그 성에 일대 혼란이 일어났다.
  5. 그래서 그들은 하나님의 궤를 에그론으로 보냈다. 그러나 에그론 사람들이 하나님의 궤가 들어오는 것을 보고 '저들이 이스라엘 신의 궤를 이리로 가지고 와서 우리를 다 죽이려 하는구나!' 하고 외쳤다.
  1. Now the hand of the LORD was heavy on the Ashdodites, and He ravaged them and smote them with tumors, both Ashdod and its territories.
  2. When the men of Ashdod saw that it was so, they said, "The ark of the God of Israel must not remain with us, for His hand is severe on us and on Dagon our god."
  3. So they sent and gathered all the lords of the Philistines to them and said, "What shall we do with the ark of the God of Israel?" And they said, "Let the ark of the God of Israel be brought around to Gath." And they brought the ark of the God of Israel around.
  4. After they had brought it around, the hand of the LORD was against the city with very great confusion; and He smote the men of the city, both young and old, so that tumors broke out on them.
  5. So they sent the ark of God to Ekron. And as the ark of God came to Ekron the Ekronites cried out, saying, "They have brought the ark of the God of Israel around to us, to kill us and our people."
  1. 그러므로 그들은 다시 블레셋 다섯 지방 통치자들을 불러 모아 '이스라엘 신의 궤를 본래 있던 곳으로 돌려보내고 우리가 죽음을 면하자' 하였다. 그러나 하나님이 그들을 무섭게 치시므로 그 성은 온통 죽음의 공포에 휩싸여 있었다.
  2. 그리고 죽지 않고 살아 남은 자들도 악성 종기 때문에 고통을 당하게 되자 그 성의 부르짖음이 하늘에 사무쳤다.
  1. They sent therefore and gathered all the lords of the Philistines and said, "Send away the ark of the God of Israel, and let it return to its own place, so that it will not kill us and our people " For there was a deadly confusion throughout the city; the hand of God was very heavy there.
  2. And the men who did not die were smitten with tumors and the cry of the city went up to heaven.
