	사무엘상 18:1-19:24 요나단은 다윗과 두터운 우정을 맺었으나 사울은 다윗을 두려워하여 그를 제거하려 하였다. 사울은 딸 미갈을 다윗과 결혼시켜 그를 죽이려고 시도했다. 그러나 다윗은 요나단과 미갈의 도움으로 위험에서 벗어났다. 다윗이 사무엘에게 피하자 사울은 사람을 보내 그를 잡으려 하였으나, 하나님께서 다윗을 보호하셨다.

	사울의 질투(18:1-18:30)

사울 왕과 다윗의 대화가 끝난 후 요나단의 마음이 다윗에게 깊이 끌려 그를 자기 생명처럼 사랑하게 되었다.

그 날부터 사울은 다윗을 계속 자기 곁에 머물게 하고 집으로 돌아가지 못하게 하였다.

요나단은 다윗을 무척 사랑하여 그와 영원한 우정을 약속하고

자기가 입고 있던 겉옷을 벗어 그에게 주었으며 또 자기 갑옷과 칼과 활과 띠도 주었다.

다윗은 사울이 보내는 곳마다 가서 모든 일을 성공적으로 수행하였으므로 사울이 그를 자기 군대의 사령관 중 한 사람으로 임명하였다. 그러자 신하들이나 백성들은 다 같이 그 일을 기뻐하였다.

Now it came about when he had finished speaking to Saul, that the soul of Jonathan was knit to the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as himself.

Saul took him that day and did not let him return to his father's house.

Then Jonathan made a covenant with David because he loved him as himself.

Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that was on him and gave it to David, with his armor, including his sword and his bow and his belt.

So David went out wherever Saul sent him, and prospered; and Saul set him over the men of war. And it was pleasing in the sight of all the people and also in the sight of Saul's servants.

다윗이 골리앗을 죽인 다음 승리한 이스라엘군이 돌아올 때 이스라엘의 모든 성에서 여자들이 승전을 축하하여 소고와 경쇠를 가지고 나와 노래하고 춤추며 사울 왕을 환영했는데

그들은 이렇게 노래하였다. '사울이 죽인 자는 수천 명이요 다윗이 죽인 자는 수만 명이라네'

사울은 이 노래를 듣고 대단히 불쾌하여 혼잣말로 중얼거렸다. '도대체 이것이 어찌된 셈인가? 저들이 다윗에게는 수만을 돌리고 나에게는 수천을 돌리다니! 다음번에는 저들이 다윗을 자기들의 왕으로 세우겠구나.'

그 날부터 사울은 계속 다윗을 질투의 눈으로 바라보았다.

바로 그 다음날 하나님이 보낸 악령이 강하게 사울을 사로잡자 그는 마치 미친 사람처럼 소리를 지르고 떠들어대기 시작하였다. 그래서 다윗은 평소 때와 같이 그를 진정시키려고 수금을 타고 있었는데 사울은 자기 곁에 세워 둔 창을 만지작거리며

It happened as they were coming, when David returned from killing the Philistine, that the women came out of all the cities of Israel, singing and dancing, to meet King Saul, with tambourines, with joy and with musical instruments.

The women sang as they played, and said, "Saul has slain his thousands, And David his ten thousands."

Then Saul became very angry, for this saying displeased him; and he said, "They have ascribed to David ten thousands, but to me they have ascribed thousands. Now what more can he have but the kingdom?"

Saul looked at David with suspicion from that day on.

Now it came about on the next day that an evil spirit from God came mightily upon Saul, and he raved in the midst of the house, while David was playing the harp with his hand, as usual; and a spear was in Saul's hand.

'내가 저놈을 벽에 박아 버려야지' 하고 혼잣말로 중얼거리다가 갑자기 창을 다윗에게 던졌다. 그러나 다윗은 그 창 두 번이나 피해 도망하였다.

여호와께서 사울을 떠나 다윗과 함께 하시므로 사울은 다윗을 두려워하였다.

그래서 그는 결국 다윗을 자기 앞에서 추방하고 1,000명을 거느리는 군 지휘관으로 그를 강등시켰다 그러나 다윗은 계속 백성들을 지도하였다.

여호와께서 그와 함께 하셨으므로 그는 모든 일을 성공적으로 수행해 나갔다.

사울은 이것을 보고 다윗을 더욱더 두려워하였으나

Saul hurled the spear for he thought, "I will pin David to the wall." But David escaped from his presence twice.

Now Saul was afraid of David, for the LORD was with him but had departed from Saul.

Therefore Saul removed him from his presence and appointed him as his commander of a thousand; and he went out and came in before the people.

David was prospering in all his ways for the LORD was with him.

When Saul saw that he was prospering greatly, he dreaded him.

이스라엘과 유다에 있는 모든 사람들은 다윗이 자기들을 잘 인도하므로 그를 사랑하였다.

어느 날 사울이 다윗에게 말하였다. '내가 너에게 내 맏딸 메랍을 아내로 주겠다. 하지만 너는 먼저 여호와의 싸움을 싸워 네가 정말 용감한 군인임을 입증해야 한다.' 사울이 이렇게 말한 것은 '내가 직접 그를 죽이지 않고 블레셋 사람의 손에 죽게 해야지' 하고 생각했기 때문이었다.

그때 다윗은 사울에게 '내가 누군데 감히 왕의 사위가 되겠습니까? 내 아버지의 집안은 보잘 것 없습니다.' 하고 대답하였다.

그러나 메랍을 다윗에게 줄 때가 되었을 때 사울은 자기 딸을 므홀랏 사람인 아드리엘에게 시집보내고 말았다.

한편 사울의 딸 미갈이 다윗을 사랑하자 사울은 이것을 듣고 기뻐하며

But all Israel and Judah loved David, and he went out and came in before them.

Then Saul said to David, "Here is my older daughter Merab; I will give her to you as a wife, only be a valiant man for me and fight the LORD'S battles " For Saul thought, "My hand shall not be against him, but let the hand of the Philistines be against him."

But David said to Saul, "Who am I, and what is my life or my father's family in Israel, that I should be the king's son-in-law?"

So it came about at the time when Merab, Saul's daughter, should have been given to David, that she was given to Adriel the Meholathite for a wife.

Now Michal, Saul's daughter, loved David. When they told Saul, the thing was agreeable to him.

'또 한번의 기회가 왔구나! 내가 미갈을 다윗에게 주고 딸을 이용해서 그를 함정에 빠뜨려 블레셋 사람의 손에 죽게해야지' 하고 생각하였다. 그러나 그는 다윗에게 '이제 너는 내 사위가 될 수 있다. 내가 작은 딸을 너에게 줄테니까' 하고 말하였다.

그런 다음 사울은 자기 신하들에게 왕이 정말 다윗을 사랑할 뿐만 아니라 모든 신하들도 그를 사랑하므로 왕의 제안을 받아들여 그의 사위가 되는 것이 좋을 것이라는 말을 다윗에게 일러 주라고 지시하였다.

그러나 다윗은 '나처럼 가난하고 보잘 것 없는 사람이 어떻게 왕의 사위가 될 수 있겠소?' 하고 대답하였다.

사울의 신하들이 이 말을 그에게 전하자

사울이 그들에게 말하였다. '너희는 다윗에게 왕은 아무 예물도 바라지 않고 다만 자기 원수들에게 복수하고자 블레셋 사람들의 포피 100개를 원할 뿐이다 하고 말해 주어라.' 그러나 사울은 다윗을 블레셋 사람의 손에 죽게 할 속셈이었다.

Saul thought, "I will give her to him that she may become a snare to him, and that the hand of the Philistines may be against him " Therefore Saul said to David, "For a second time you may be my son-in-law today."

Then Saul commanded his servants, "Speak to David secretly, saying, 'Behold, the king delights in you, and all his servants love you; now therefore, become the king's son-in-law.'"

So Saul's servants spoke these words to David. But David said, "Is it trivial in your sight to become the king's son-in-law, since I am a poor man and lightly esteemed?"

The servants of Saul reported to him according to these words which David spoke.

Saul then said, "Thus you shall say to David, 'The king does not desire any dowry except a hundred foreskins of the Philistines, to take vengeance on the king's enemies '" Now Saul planned to make David fall by the hand of the Philistines.

사울의 신하들이 이 말을 다윗에게 전하자 그는 왕의 사위가 되는 것을 기쁘게 여기고 기한이 차기도 전에

부하들을 데리고 나가서 블레셋 사람 200명을 죽여 그들의 포피를 잘라 왕에게 갖다 바쳤다. 그래서 사울은 미갈을 다윗에게 아내로 주었다.

사울은 여호와께서 다윗과 함께 하시고 또 자기 딸 미갈도 그를 사랑하는 것을 알고

다윗을 더욱 두려워하였으며 평생 그의 원수가 되었다.

블레셋 사람들이 공격해 올 때마다 다윗은 전쟁에서 언제나 사울의 다른 지휘관들보다도 공을 많이 세웠으므로 그의 이름이 널리 알려졌다.

When his servants told David these words, it pleased David to become the king's son-in-law. Before the days had expired

David rose up and went, he and his men, and struck down two hundred men among the Philistines Then David brought their foreskins, and they gave them in full number to the king, that he might become the king's son-in-law. So Saul gave him Michal his daughter for a wife.

When Saul saw and knew that the LORD was with David, and that Michal, Saul's daughter, loved him,

then Saul was even more afraid of David. Thus Saul was David's enemy continually.

Then the commanders of the Philistines went out to battle, and it happened as often as they went out, that David behaved himself more wisely than all the servants of Saul. So his name was highly esteemed.

	사울의 다윗 살해 시도(19:1-19:24)

사울은 그의 아들 요나단과 모든 신하들에게 다윗을 죽이라고 지시하였다. 그러나 요나단은 다윗을 대단히 좋아했기 때문에

그에게 이렇게 귀띔해 주었다. '내 아버지가 너를 죽이려고 한다. 너는 조심하고 내일 아침 들에 가서 숨어 있거라.

내가 아버지와 함께 네가 숨어 있는 들로 나가서 너에 대해 이야기하고 내가 알릴 것이 있으면 모두 너에게 말해 주겠다.'

다음 날 아침 요나단은 자기 아버지와 이야기를 하는 중에 다윗을 칭찬하면서 이렇게 말하였다. '아버지, 신하 다윗을 해하지 마십시오. 그가 아버지를 해칠 만한 일은 조금도 하지 않았고 오히려 최선을 다해서 모든 일에 아버지를 도와 주지 않았습니까?

그가 자기 생명을 아끼지 않고 나가서 골리앗을 죽인 것과 그리고 그 결과로 여호와께서 이스라엘에 큰 승리를 주셨던 일을 잊으셨습니까? 아버지는 그때 무척 기뻐하셨습니다. 그런데 어째서 아버지는 이제 와서 그처럼 죄 없는 사람을 죽여 범죄하려고 하십니까? 그럴 만한 이유가 전혀 없지 않습니까!'

Now Saul told Jonathan his son and all his servants to put David to death But Jonathan, Saul's son, greatly delighted in David.

So Jonathan told David saying, "Saul my father is seeking to put you to death. Now therefore, please be on guard in the morning, and stay in a secret place and hide yourself.

"I will go out and stand beside my father in the field where you are, and I will speak with my father about you; if I find out anything, then I will tell you."

Then Jonathan spoke well of David to Saul his father and said to him, "Do not let the king sin against his servant David, since he has not sinned against you, and since his deeds have been very beneficial to you.

"For he took his life in his hand and struck the Philistine, and the LORD brought about a great deliverance for all Israel; you saw it and rejoiced Why then will you sin against innocent blood by putting David to death without a cause?"

사울은 요나단의 말을 듣고 '여호와께서 살아 계시는 한 내가 그를 죽이지 않겠다.' 하고 맹세하였다.

그래서 요나단은 다윗을 불러 그 모든 일을 그에게 말하고 그를 사울에게 데리고 갔으며 다윗은 전과 같이 다시 왕을 섬기게 되었다.

그 후에 다시 전쟁이 일어났으므로 다윗이 병력을 이끌고 나가 블레셋군과 싸워서 수많은 적을 죽이자 그들은 모두 도주하고 말았다.

사울이 자기 집에 앉아 있을 때 여호와께서 보낸 악령이 그를 사로잡았다. 그래서 다윗이 수금을 타고 있는데

사울이 다윗을 죽이려고 손에 들고 있던 단창을 그에게 던졌다. 그러나 다윗이 피하자 그 창은 벽에 꽂혔다. 그 날 밤 다윗은 그 곳에서 피하여 달아났다.

Saul listened to the voice of Jonathan, and Saul vowed, "As the LORD lives, he shall not be put to death."

Then Jonathan called David, and Jonathan told him all these words. And Jonathan brought David to Saul, and he was in his presence as formerly.

When there was war again, David went out and fought with the Philistines and defeated them with great slaughter, so that they fled before him.

Now there was an evil spirit from the LORD on Saul as he was sitting in his house with his spear in his hand, and David was playing the harp with his hand.

Saul tried to pin David to the wall with the spear, but he slipped away out of Saul's presence, so that he stuck the spear into the wall. And David fled and escaped that night.

사울은 사람들을 보내 다윗의 집을 지키게하고 아침에 그가 나오면 죽이라고 하였다. 그러나 이것을 눈치챈 다윗의 아내 미갈은 '만일 당신이 오늘 밤에 피하지 않으면 내일은 죽게 될 거예요' 하고 그에게 일러 주었다.

그리고서 미갈은 창문으로 다윗을 달아내려 도망치게 한 다음

우상을 가져다가 침대에 눕히고 염소털로 엮은 것을 그 머리에 씌워 옷으로 덮어 두었다.

사울이 보낸 사람들이 다윗을 잡으러 왔을 때 미갈은 그들에게 다윗이 병들어 일어날 수 없다고 말하였다.

그러나 사울은 다윗을 확인해 오라고 사람을 다시 보내며 '그를 침대째 이리 들고 오너라. 내가 그를 죽여 버리겠다.' 하고 명령하였다.

Then Saul sent messengers to David's house to watch him, in order to put him to death in the morning. But Michal, David's wife, told him, saying, "If you do not save your life tonight, tomorrow you will be put to death."

So Michal let David down through a window, and he went out and fled and escaped.

Michal took the household idol and laid it on the bed, and put a quilt of goats' hair at its head, and covered it with clothes.

When Saul sent messengers to take David, she said, "He is sick."

Then Saul sent messengers to see David, saying, "Bring him up to me on his bed, that I may put him to death."

그러나 그들이 방 안에 들어가 보았을 때 침대에는 우상이 있었고 그 머리에는 염소털로 엮은 것이 있었다.

사울이 미갈에게 '너는 어째서 나를 속이고 내 원수를 도망가게 하였느냐?' 하고 묻자 미갈은 '도와 주지 않으면 그가 나를 죽이겠다고 위협했기 때문에 어쩔 수 없었습니다.' 하고 대답하였다.

그 길로 다윗은 도망하여 라마로 가서 사무엘을 만나 사울이 자기에게 한 일을 모두 이야기하였다. 그래서 사무엘은 다윗을 나욧으로 데리고 가서 함께 살았다.

다윗이 라마의 나욧에 있다는 소식이 사울에게 전해지자

그는 다윗을 잡아오라고 사람을 보냈다. 그러나 그들이 그 곳에 도착하여 사무엘과 다른 예언자들이 예언하는 것을 보는 순간 하나님의 성령께서 그들을 감동시키시므로 그들도 예언하기 시작하였다.

When the messengers entered, behold, the household idol was on the bed with the quilt of goats' hair at its head.

So Saul said to Michal, "Why have you deceived me like this and let my enemy go, so that he has escaped?" And Michal said to Saul, "He said to me, 'Let me go! Why should I put you to death?'"

Now David fled and escaped and came to Samuel at Ramah, and told him all that Saul had done to him And he and Samuel went and stayed in Naioth.

It was told Saul, saying, "Behold, David is at Naioth in Ramah."

Then Saul sent messengers to take David, but when they saw the company of the prophets prophesying, with Samuel standing and presiding over them, the Spirit of God came upon the messengers of Saul; and they also prophesied.

사울이 이 말을 듣고 다른 사람들을 보냈으나 그들도 역시 예언하였다. 그래서 사울은 세 번째로 사람들을 보냈는데 그들도 역시 예언하지 않겠는가!

그래서 이번에는 사울이 직접 라마로 가서 세구에 있는 큰 우물에 이르러 '사무엘과 다윗이 어디 있느냐?' 하고 물었다. 그러자 어떤 사람이 '라마의 나욧에 있습니다.' 하고 대답하였다.

그러나 사울이 나욧으로 가는 도중에 하나님의 성령이 그를 사로잡자 그가 나욧에 도착하기까지 줄곧 예언하였다.

그는 또 자기 옷을 벗고 사무엘 앞에서 예언하며 하루 종일 밤낮 벌거벗은 채 누워 있었다. 그래서 '사울도 예언자란 말인가?'라는 유행어까지 생기게 되었다.

When it was told Saul, he sent other messengers, and they also prophesied. So Saul sent messengers again the third time, and they also prophesied.

Then he himself went to Ramah and came as far as the large well that is in Secu; and he asked and said, "Where are Samuel and David?" And someone said, "Behold, they are at Naioth in Ramah."

He proceeded there to Naioth in Ramah; and the Spirit of God came upon him also, so that he went along prophesying continually until he came to Naioth in Ramah.

He also stripped off his clothes, and he too prophesied before Samuel and lay down naked all that day and all that night Therefore they say, "Is Saul also among the prophets?"
