- 욥은 다시 말을 이었다.
- '하나님이 나를 돌보시던 옛날의 생활로 내가 되돌아갈 수 있으면 얼마나 좋을까?
- 그 때는 하나님이 항상 나와 함께 계셨고 내가 흑암으로 걸어갈 때 나에게 빛을 주셨다.
- 내 인생의 전성기에는 하나님의 따뜻한 손길이 우리 가정을 지켜 주셨고
- 전능하신 하나님이 나와 함께 하셨으며 나는 내 자녀들에게 둘러싸여 있었고

- And Job again took up his discourse and said,
- "Oh that I were as in months gone by, As in the days when God watched over me;
- When His lamp shone over my head, And by His light I walked through darkness;
- As I was in the prime of my days, When the friendship of God was over my tent;
- When the Almighty was yet with me, And my children were around me;

- 나의 가축은 젖을 많이 내며 바위산에 있는 감람나무까지 잘 자라 기름을 물 쓰듯이 하였다.
- 그 때는 내가 성문 광장으로 가서 성의 어른들과 자리를 같이하기도 하였다.
- 젊은 사람들이 나를 보면 길을 비켜서고 내가 가면 노인들이 일어섰으며
- 백성의 지도자들도 하던 말을 멈추고 손으로 입을 가리고
- 귀족들도 조용히 말문을 닫았으며

- When my steps were bathed in butter, And the rock poured out for me streams of oil!
- "When I went out to the gate of the city, When I took my seat in the square,
- The young men saw me and hid themselves, And the old men arose and stood.
- "The princes stopped talking And put their hands on their mouths;
- The voice of the nobles was hushed, And their tongue stuck to their palate.

- 나의 관해서 듣거나 나를 보는 자들이 다 나를 칭찬하였다.
- 가난한 자들이 부르짖으면 내가 그들을 도와 주고 의지할 데 없는 고아들을 볼 때도 나는 그들을 도와 주었다.
- 또 거의 망하게 된 자들도 나를 위해 복을 빌어 주었으며 나 때문에 과부들도 기뻐서 노래를 불렀다.
- 나는 의로움을 내 옷으로 삼고 언제나 바르고 정직하게 살았으며
- 소경의 눈이 되고 절뚝발이의 발이 되었으며

- "For when the ear heard, it called me blessed, And when the eye saw, it gave witness of me,
- Because I delivered the poor who cried for help, And the orphan who had no helper.
- "The blessing of the one ready to perish came upon me, And I made the widow's heart sing for joy.
- "I put on righteousness, and it clothed me; My justice was like a robe and a turban.
- "I was eyes to the blind And feet to the lame.

- 가난한 자에게는 아버지와 같았고 낯선 사람의 문제도 처리해 주었다.
- 또 나는 악하고 잔인한 사람들의 세력을 꺾고 그들의 희생자들을 구출해 내었다.
- 나는 가끔 혼자 이런 생각을 해본다. '나는 오래오래 잘 살다가 편안하게 죽을 것이며
- 뿌리가 물에 뻗어 있고 그 가지는 밤새도록 이슬에 젖어 있는 나무와 같을 것이며
- 내 영광은 날로 새로와지고 내 힘은 점점 더 왕성해질 것이다.'

- "I was a father to the needy, And I investigated the case which I did not know.
- "I broke the jaws of the wicked And snatched the prey from his teeth.
- "Then I thought, 'I shall die in my nest, And I shall multiply my days as the sand.
- 'My root is spread out to the waters, And dew lies all night on my branch.
- 'My glory is ever new with me, And my bow is renewed in my hand.'

- 사람들은 내 말을 듣고 내 충고를 소중히 여기며 내가 말할 때까지 조용히 기다렸다가
- 내가 말한 후에는 더 이상 말을 하지 않았다. 이것은 그들이 내 충고를 만족스럽게 여겼기 때문이었다.
- 그들은 가뭄 때 비를 기다리는 심정으로 내가 말하기를 기다렸다.
- 그들이 낙심할 때 내가 웃어 주면 나의 밝은 표정을 보고 그들은 용기를 얻었다.
- 나는 그들의 길을 결정해 주고 그들의 지도자로 앉아 그들에게 왕처럼 군림했으며 그들이 어려움을 당할 때마다 초상당한 자를 위로하듯이 내가 그들을 위로해 주었다.

- "To me they listened and waited, And kept silent for my counsel.
- "After my words they did not speak again, And my speech dropped on them.
- "They waited for me as for the rain, And opened their mouth as for the spring rain.
- "I smiled on them when they did not believe, And the light of my face they did not cast down.
- "I chose a way for them and sat as chief, And dwelt as a king among the troops, As one who comforted the mourners.
