- 내가 내 눈과 서약하였으니 어찌 처녀를 정욕의 눈으로 볼 수 있겠는가?
- 내가 만일 그렇게 한다면 위에 계신 전능하신 하나님에게 무엇을 기대할 수 있겠는가?
- 의롭지 못하고 악을 행하는 자에게는 하나님이 재앙을 내려 벌하실 것이 아니겠는가?
- 하나님은 내가 행하는 모든 일을 다 보고 계시며 내 걸음을 일일이 헤아리신다.
- 나는 거짓말을 한 적도 없고 다른 사람을 속인 일도 없다.

- 만일 하나님이 나를 정직한 저울에 달아 보시면 나의 진실을 아실 것이다.
- 내가 만일 바른 길에서 벗어났다던가 아니면 눈으로 본 것에 마음이 끌려 죄를 범했다던가 또 내 손이 죄로 더럽혀졌다면
- 내가 심은 것을 다른 사람이 먹고 내가 기른 농작물이 뿌리째 뽑혀 못쓰게 되어도 할 말이 없을 것이다.
- 내가 만일 어떤 여자에게 마음이 끌려서 그녀의 문 밖에 숨어 그녀를 엿본 적이 있다면
- 내 아내가 다른 사람의 집에서 맷돌질을 하고 다른 사람의 침실에서 잠을 자도 마땅하다.

- Let Him weigh me with accurate scales, And let God know my integrity.
- "If my step has turned from the way, Or my heart followed my eyes, Or if any spot has stuck to my hands,
- Let me sow and another eat, And let my crops be uprooted.
- "If my heart has been enticed by a woman, Or I have lurked at my neighbor's doorway,
- May my wife grind for another, And let others kneel down over her.

- 이런 죄는 반드시 형벌을 받아야 할 무서운 악이며
- 내가 가진 모든 것을 송두리째 삼켜 버리는 파괴적인 지옥불과도 같은 것이다.
- 내 종들이 나에게 불만을 말할 때에도 나는 그들의 말을 듣고 그들에게 정당한 대우를 해 주었다.
- 내가 만일 그렇게 하지 않았더라면 내가 어떻게 하나님을 대할 수 있으며 하나님이 나에게 그 일을 따지실 때 내가 무엇이라고 대답할 수 있겠는가?
- 나를 만드신 하나님은 내 종들도 만드신 분이시다.

- "For that would be a lustful crime; Moreover, it would be an iniquity punishable by judges.
- "For it would be fire that consumes to Abaddon, And would uproot all my increase.
- "If I have despised the claim of my male or female slaves When they filed a complaint against me,
- What then could I do when God arises? And when He calls me to account, what will I answer Him?

- 나는 가난한 자의 소원을 거절하거나 과부를 실망시킨 적이 없으며
- 나는 배불리 먹으면서 불쌍한 고아를 굶겨 본 적도 없다.
- 사실 나는 젊었을 때부터 고아들을 친자식처럼 돌보아 주었고 과부들을 보살펴 주었다.
- 나는 또 너무 가난해서 입을 것이나 덮을 것이 없는 사람을 보면
- 양털로 옷을 지어 입혔고 그들은 나에게 정성껏 복을 빌어 주었다.

- Or have eaten my morsel alone, And the orphan has not shared it
- (But from my youth he grew up with me as with a father, And from infancy I guided her),

- 만일 내가 법정에서 나를 도와 줄 자가 있음을 알고 고아를 등쳐먹었다면
- 내 팔이 부러지고 어깻죽지에서 떨어져 나가도 할 말이 없을 것이다.
- 나는 하나님의 형벌을 무서워할 뿐만 아니라 그의 위엄이 두려워서도 감히 그런 짓을 할 수가 없다.
- 나는 돈을 신뢰하거나
- 재산이 많다고 기뻐한 적이 없으며

- If I have lifted up my hand against the orphan, Because I saw I had support in the gate,
- Let my shoulder fall from the socket, And my arm be broken off at the elbow.
- "For calamity from God is a terror to me, And because of His majesty I can do nothing.
- "If I have put my confidence in gold, And called fine gold my trust,
- If I have gloated because my wealth was great, And because my hand had secured so much;

- 또 하늘에 빛나는 태양이나 은빛 길을 걷는 달을 보고
- 은근히 마음이 끌려 손을 모아 그것들을 숭배해 본 적도 없다.
- 내가 만일 그런 짓을 했다면 이것 역시 재판을 받아야 할 죄이다. 그것은 내가 위에 계신 하나님을 배반한 셈이 되기 때문이다.
- 나는 나를 미워하는 자가 망하는 것을 보고 기뻐하거나 재앙을 만나 고통당하는 것을 보고 흐뭇한 표정을 지어 본 적도 없다.
- 사실 나는 어떤 사람을 죽으라고 저주하여 내 입술로 범죄한 적이 없다.

- If I have looked at the sun when it shone Or the moon going in splendor,
- And my heart became secretly enticed, And my hand threw a kiss from my mouth,
- That too would have been an iniquity calling for judgment, For I would have denied God above.
- "Have I rejoiced at the extinction of my enemy, Or exulted when evil befell him?
- "No, I have not allowed my mouth to sin By asking for his life in a curse.

- 내 고기로 배를 채우지 않은 사람이 없다는 것은 내 집에서 일하는 자들도 다 아는 사실이다.
- 나는 나그네를 길거리에 자게 한 일이 없으며 길 가는 사람들을 위해 내 집 문을 항상 열어 두었다.
- 나는 다른 사람들처럼 내 죄를 숨겨 본 일도 없고 사람들이 하는 말을 두려워하지도 않았으며 내가 그들의 비웃음을 무서워하여 할 말을 못하거나 바깥 출입을 하지 못하고 집 안에만 틀어박혀 있은 적도 없었다.

- 누구든지 내가 하는 말을 들어라. 내가 하는 변명에는 조금도 거짓이 없다. 나는 전능하신 하나님이 내 말에 대답해 주시기를 원하고 있다. 만일 내 대적이 내가 인정할만한 소송장을 나에게 제시 할 수 있었다면

- "Have the men of my tent not said, 'Who can find one who has not been satisfied with his meat'?
- "The alien has not lodged outside, For I have opened my doors to the traveler.
- "Have I covered my transgressions like Adam, By hiding my iniquity in my bosom,
- Because I feared the great multitude, And the contempt of families terrified me, And kept silent and did not go out of doors?
- "Oh that I had one to hear me! Behold, here is my signature; Let the Almighty answer me! And the indictment which my adversary has written,

- 내가 그것을 어께에 메기도 하고 면류관처럼 머리에 쓰기도 했을 것이며
- 또 내가 행할 일을 일일이 다 그에게 말하고 내가 그를 왕족처럼 가까이 했을 것이다.
- 내 토지가 나를 향해 부르짖고 그 이랑이 눈물로 젖은 일이 있는가?
- 내가 만일 값을 지불하지 않고 그 농산물을 먹거나 소작인들을 굶어 죽게 한 일이 있다면
- 그 땅에 밀 대신 찔레가 나고 보리 대신 잡초가 나도 할 말이 없을 것이다.' 이렇게 해서 욥의 말이 끝났다

- Surely I would carry it on my shoulder, I would bind it to myself like a crown.
- "I would declare to Him the number of my steps; Like a prince I would approach Him.
- "If my land cries out against me, And its furrows weep together;
