	출애굽기 3:1-4:31 모세는 호렙 산에서 하나님께 부르심을 받아 출애굽의 소명을 받았으나 인간적인 한계를 이유를 들어 거듭 소명을 거부하였다. 이러한 모세에게 하나님께서는 두 가지 표징과 이적을 보여 주셨고, 그 형 아론을 돕는 자로 붙여 주셨다. 이에 모세는 출애굽의 대역사를 위해 애굽으로 돌아갔다.

	모세의 소명(3:1-3:22)

Now Moses kept the flock of Jethro his father in law, the priest of Midian: and he led the flock to the backside of the desert, and came to the mountain of God, even to Horeb.

And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed.

And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt.

And when the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I.

And he said, Draw not nigh hither: put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground.

모세는 미디안 사제인 장인 이드로의 양떼를 치는 목자가 되었다. 그가 양떼를 이끌고 광야를 지나 하느님의 산 호렙으로 갔더니

야훼의 천사가 떨기 가운데서 이는 불꽃으로 그에게 나타났다. 떨기에서 불꽃이 이는데도 떨기가 타지 않는 것을 본

모세가 "저 떨기가 어째서 타지 않을까? 이 놀라운 광경을 가서 보아야겠다." 하며

그것을 보러 오는 것을 야훼께서 보셨다. 하느님께서 떨기 가운데서 "모세야, 모세야." 하고 부르셨다. 그가 대답하였다. "예, 말씀하십시오."

하느님께서는 "이리로 가까이 오지 마라. 네가 서 있는 곳은 거룩한 땅이니 네 발에서 신을 벗어라." 하시고는

Moreover he said, I am the God of thy father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. And Moses hid his face; for he was afraid to look upon God.

And the LORD said, I have surely seen the affliction of my people which are in Egypt, and have heard their cry by reason of their taskmasters; for I know their sorrows;

And I am come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up out of that land unto a good land and a large, unto a land flowing with milk and honey; unto the place of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites.

Now therefore, behold, the cry of the children of Israel is come unto me: and I have also seen the oppression wherewith the Egyptians oppress them.

Come now therefore, and I will send thee unto Pharaoh, that thou mayest bring forth my people the children of Israel out of Egypt.

다시 말씀하셨다. "나는 네 선조들의 하느님이다. 아브라함의 하느님, 이사악의 하느님, 야곱의 하느님이다." 모세는 하느님 뵙기가 무서워 얼굴을 가렸다.

야훼께서 계속 말씀하셨다. "나는 내 백성이 이집트에서 고생하는 것을 똑똑히 보았고 억압을 받으며 괴로워 울부짖는 소리를 들었다. 그들이 얼마나 고생하는지 나는 잘 알고 있다.

나 이제 내려가서 그들을 이집트인들의 손아귀에서 빼내어 그 땅에서 이끌어서, 젖과 꿀이 흐르는 아름답고 넓은 땅, 가나안족과 헷족과 아모리족과 브리즈족과 히위족과 여부스족이 사는 땅으로 데려가고자 한다.

지금도 이스라엘 백성의 아우성 소리가 들려온다. 또한 이집트인들이 그들을 못살게 구는 모습도 보인다.

내가 이제 너를 파라오에게 보낼 터이니 너는 가서 내 백성 이스라엘 자손을 이집트에서 건져내어라."

And Moses said unto God, Who am I, that I should go unto Pharaoh, and that I should bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt?

And he said, Certainly I will be with thee; and this shall be a token unto thee, that I have sent thee: When thou hast brought forth the people out of Egypt, ye shall serve God upon this mountain.

And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? what shall I say unto them?

And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.

And God said moreover unto Moses, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, the LORD God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath sent me unto you: this is my name for ever, and this is my memorial unto all generations.

모세가 하느님께 아뢰었다. "제가 무엇인데 감히 파라오에게 가서 이스라엘 백성을 이집트에서 건져내겠습니까?"

하느님께서 대답하셨다. "내가 네 힘이 되어주겠다. 이것이 바로 내가 너를 보냈다는 증거가 되리라. 너는 나의 백성을 이집트에서 이끌어낸 다음 이 산에서 하느님을 예배하리라."

모세가 하느님께 아뢰었다. "제가 이스라엘 백성에게 가서 '너희 조상들의 하느님께서 나를 너희에게 보내셨다.' 하고 말하면 그들이 '그 하느님의 이름이 무엇이냐?' 하고 물을 터인데, 제가 어떻게 대답해야 하겠습니까?"

하느님께서는 모세에게 "나는 곧 나다." 하고 대답하시고, 이어서 말씀하셨다. "너는, 나를 너희에게 보내신 분은 '나다.' 하고 말씀하시는 그분이라고 이스라엘 백성에게 일러라."

그리고 하느님께서는 다시 모세에게 말씀하셨다. "너는 이스라엘 백성에게 이렇게 일러라. '나를 너희에게 보내신 이는 너희 선조들의 하느님 야훼시다. 아브라함의 하느님, 이사악의 하느님, 야곱의 하느님이시다.' 이것이 영원히 나의 이름이 되리라. 대대로 이 이름을 불러 나를 기리게 되리라.

Go, and gather the elders of Israel together, and say unto them, The LORD God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob, appeared unto me, saying, I have surely visited you, and seen that which is done to you in Egypt:

And I have said, I will bring you up out of the affliction of Egypt unto the land of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites, unto a land flowing with milk and honey.

And they shall hearken to thy voice: and thou shalt come, thou and the elders of Israel, unto the king of Egypt, and ye shall say unto him, The LORD God of the Hebrews hath met with us: and now let us go, we beseech thee, three days' journey into the wilderness, that we may sacrifice to the LORD our God.

And I am sure that the king of Egypt will not let you go, no, not by a mighty hand.

And I will stretch out my hand, and smite Egypt with all my wonders which I will do in the midst thereof: and after that he will let you go.

어서 가서 이스라엘의 장로들을 모으고 '너희 조상들의 하느님 곧 아브라함의 하느님, 이사악의 하느님, 야곱의 하느님 야훼께서 나에게 나타나 이르셨다.' 하며 이렇게 전하여라. '나는 너희들을 찾아와서 너희가 이집트에서 겪고 있는 일을 똑똑히 보았다.

그리고 너희를 이집트의 억압에서 끌어내어 가나안족, 헷족, 아모리족, 브리즈족, 히위족, 여부스족이 사는 땅, 젖과 꿀이 흐르는 땅으로 데려가기로 작정하였다.'

이렇게 말하면 그들은 네 말을 들을 것이다. 너는 이스라엘의 장로들을 데리고 이집트 왕에게 가서 '히브리인의 하느님 야훼께서 우리에게 나타나셨으니 우리는 광야로 사흘 길을 걸어가 우리 하느님 야훼께 제사를 드려야 하겠소.' 하고 말하여라.

그러나 이집트 왕은 단단히 몰아세우지 않는 한 너희를 내보내지 않을 줄 나는 안다.

그러므로 내가 손수 온갖 놀라운 일로 이집트를 칠 것이다. 그런 일이 있은 뒤에야 그는 너희를 떠나 보낼 것이다.

And I will give this people favour in the sight of the Egyptians: and it shall come to pass, that, when ye go, ye shall not go empty.

But every woman shall borrow of her neighbour, and of her that sojourneth in her house, jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and raiment: and ye shall put them upon your sons, and upon your daughters; and ye shall spoil the Egyptians.

내가 이 백성을 얼마나 아끼는지 이집트인들에게 보여주리라. 따라서 너희가 그 곳을 떠날 때 빈손으로 나오지는 아니할 것이다.

부인들은 저마다 이웃 여인과 자기 집에 사는 여인에게서 은붙이와 금붙이와 옷을 얻어낼 것이고 너희는 그것으로 아들과 딸들을 치장하리라. 이렇게 너희는 이집트를 털리라."

	모세의 귀환(4:1-4:31)

And Moses answered and said, But, behold, they will not believe me, nor hearken unto my voice: for they will say, The LORD hath not appeared unto thee.

And the LORD said unto him, What is that in thine hand? And he said, A rod.

And he said, Cast it on the ground. And he cast it on the ground, and it became a serpent; and Moses fled from before it.

And the LORD said unto Moses, Put forth thine hand, and take it by the tail. And he put forth his hand, and caught it, and it became a rod in his hand:

That they may believe that the LORD God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath appeared unto thee.

모세가 하느님께 아뢰었다. "그들이 저를 믿지 않으면 어떻게 합니까? 제 말을 듣지 않고, 야훼께서 저에게 나타나셨다는 말을 헛소리라고 하면 어떻게 합니까?"

야훼께서 그에게 물으셨다. "네 손에 있는 것이 무엇이냐?" 모세가 "지팡이입니다." 하고 대답하자

야훼께서 말씀하셨다. "그 지팡이를 땅에 던져라." 모세가 지팡이를 땅에 던지니 그것이 뱀이 되었다. 그가 무서워 뒤로 물러서자

야훼께서 모세에게 이르셨다. "손을 내밀어 꼬리를 잡아라." 그가 손을 내밀어 꼬리를 잡으니 손에 든 그 뱀이 도로 지팡이가 되었다.

"이렇게 하여 그들 선조들의 하느님 곧 아브라함의 하느님, 이사악의 하느님, 야곱의 하느님 야훼가 너에게 나타났다는 것을 믿게 하여라."

And the LORD said furthermore unto him, Put now thine hand into thy bosom. And he put his hand into his bosom: and when he took it out, behold, his hand was leprous as snow.

And he said, Put thine hand into thy bosom again. And he put his hand into his bosom again; and plucked it out of his bosom, and, behold, it was turned again as his other flesh.

And it shall come to pass, if they will not believe thee, neither hearken to the voice of the first sign, that they will believe the voice of the latter sign.

And it shall come to pass, if they will not believe also these two signs, neither hearken unto thy voice, that thou shalt take of the water of the river, and pour it upon the dry land: and the water which thou takest out of the river shall become blood upon the dry land.

And Moses said unto the LORD, O my LORD, I am not eloquent, neither heretofore, nor since thou hast spoken unto thy servant: but I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue.

야훼께서 다시 그에게 손을 품에 넣어보라고 말씀하셨다. 모세가 손을 품에 넣었다가 꺼내보니 손에 문둥병이 들어 마치 흰 눈이 덮인 것 같았다.

야훼께서 다시 손을 품에 넣어보라고 하셨다. 그가 손을 품에 넣었다가 꺼내보니 손은 본래 살갗대로 말끔해져 있었다.

"그들이 너를 믿지 않고 네가 보이는 첫 증거를 알아주지 않더라도 둘째 증거를 보고는 믿게 될 것이다.

만일 그들이 이 두 증거를 보고도 믿지 않고 네 말을 듣지 않거든 나일 강의 물을 퍼다가 마른 땅에 부어라. 네가 강에서 퍼다가 마른 땅에 부은 물이 피가 되리라."

모세가 야훼께 "주여, 죄송합니다. 저는 도무지 말재간이 없는 사람입니다. 어제도 그제도 그러했고 당신께서 종에게 말씀하신 오늘도 마찬가지입니다. 저는 워낙 입이 둔하고 혀가 굳은 사람입니다." 하고 아뢰자,

And the LORD said unto him, Who hath made man's mouth? or who maketh the dumb, or deaf, or the seeing, or the blind? have not I the LORD?

Now therefore go, and I will be with thy mouth, and teach thee what thou shalt say.

And he said, O my LORD, send, I pray thee, by the hand of him whom thou wilt send.

And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Moses, and he said, Is not Aaron the Levite thy brother? I know that he can speak well. And also, behold, he cometh forth to meet thee: and when he seeth thee, he will be glad in his heart.

And thou shalt speak unto him, and put words in his mouth: and I will be with thy mouth, and with his mouth, and will teach you what ye shall do.

야훼께서 그를 꾸짖으셨다. "누가 사람에게 입을 주었느냐? 누가 벙어리나 귀머거리를 만들고 눈을 열어주거나 앞 못 보는 장님이 되게 하느냐? 나 야훼가 아니더냐?

어서 가거라. 네가 입을 열 때 내가 도와 네가 무슨 말을 해야 할지 가르쳐주리라."

모세가 다시 "주여, 죄송합니다. 보내실 만한 사람이 따로 있을 줄 압니다. 그런 사람을 보내십시오." 하고 사양하자,

야훼께서 모세에게 크게 화를 내시며 말씀하셨다. "레위 사람인 네 형 아론이 있지 않느냐? 내가 알기에 그는 말을 썩 잘하는 사람이다. 그가 지금 너를 만나러 오고 있다. 그가 너를 만나 기뻐할 것이다.

네가 할 말을 그에게 들려주고 그의 입에 넣어주어라. 나는 네가 말할 때나 그가 말할 때나 너희를 도와주리라. 너희가 할 일을 내가 가르쳐주리라.

And he shall be thy spokesman unto the people: and he shall be, even he shall be to thee instead of a mouth, and thou shalt be to him instead of God.

And thou shalt take this rod in thine hand, wherewith thou shalt do signs.

And Moses went and returned to Jethro his father in law, and said unto him, Let me go, I pray thee, and return unto my brethren which are in Egypt, and see whether they be yet alive. And Jethro said to Moses, Go in peace.

And the LORD said unto Moses in Midian, Go, return into Egypt: for all the men are dead which sought thy life.

And Moses took his wife and his sons, and set them upon an ass, and he returned to the land of Egypt: and Moses took the rod of God in his hand.

그가 너를 대신하여 백성에게 말해 줄 것이다. 그는 너의 입이 되고, 너는 그에게 하느님처럼 되리라.

너는 이 지팡이를 손에 잡고 가거라. 이것으로 증거를 보여주어라."

모세는 돌아와서 장인 이드로에게 말하였다. "저는 이제 떠나야겠습니다. 이집트에 있는 형제들이 아직 살아 있는지 돌아가서 보아야 하겠습니다." 이드로는 "편히 가게." 하며 모세와 작별 인사를 나누었다.

야훼께서 미디안에서 모세에게 이르셨다. "어서 이집트로 돌아가거라. 너를 죽이려고 찾던 자들이 다 죽었다."

모세는 아내와 아들을 나귀에 태우고 이집트로 돌아갔다. 모세의 손에는 하느님의 지팡이가 들려 있었다.

And the LORD said unto Moses, When thou goest to return into Egypt, see that thou do all those wonders before Pharaoh, which I have put in thine hand: but I will harden his heart, that he shall not let the people go.

And thou shalt say unto Pharaoh, Thus saith the LORD, Israel is my son, even my firstborn:

And I say unto thee, Let my son go, that he may serve me: and if thou refuse to let him go, behold, I will slay thy son, even thy firstborn.

And it came to pass by the way in the inn, that the LORD met him, and sought to kill him.

Then Zipporah took a sharp stone, and cut off the foreskin of her son, and cast it at his feet, and said, Surely a bloody husband art thou to me.

야훼께서 모세에게 이르셨다. "이집트로 돌아가거든, 내가 너에게 시킨 온갖 이적을 파라오 앞에서 보여라. 그러나 나는 그로 하여금 억지를 부려 내 백성을 떠나 보내지 않게 하리라.

그러면 너는 파라오에게 말하여라. '야훼께서 이렇게 말씀하신다. 이스라엘은 나의 맏아들이다.

내가 너에게 내 아들을 내보내어 나를 예배하게 하라고 일렀건만 너는 그를 내보내지 않았다. 들어라, 내가 이제 너의 맏아들을 죽이리라.'"

모세가 길을 떠나가다가 한 곳에 이르러 밤을 묵는데 야훼께서 찾아오시어 그를 죽이려고 하셨다.

시뽀라가 돌칼로 제 아들의 포경을 자르고 그것을 모세의 발에 대며 말하였다. "당신은 피로 얻은 나의 신랑입니다."

So he let him go: then she said, A bloody husband thou art, because of the circumcision.

And the LORD said to Aaron, Go into the wilderness to meet Moses. And he went, and met him in the mount of God, and kissed him.

And Moses told Aaron all the words of the LORD who had sent him, and all the signs which he had commanded him.

And Moses and Aaron went and gathered together all the elders of the children of Israel:

And Aaron spake all the words which the LORD had spoken unto Moses, and did the signs in the sight of the people.

그러자 야훼께서 그를 놓아주셨다. 그래서 시뽀라는 "할례를 베풀어 피 흘려 얻은 신랑"이라고 말하였다.

아론은 모세를 만나러 광야로 나가라 하시는 야훼의 말씀을 듣고 하느님의 산에 가서 그를 만나 입을 맞추었다.

모세는 야훼께서 자기에게 사명을 주시며 하신 모든 말씀과 일러주신 모든 증거들을 아론에게 들려주었다.

모세와 아론은 돌아가서 이스라엘 백성의 장로들을 모두 불러모았다.

아론은 야훼께서 모세에게 하신 모든 말씀을 그들에게 들려주고 백성 앞에서 증거들을 보여주었다.

And the people believed: and when they heard that the LORD had visited the children of Israel, and that he had looked upon their affliction, then they bowed their heads and worshipped.

백성들은 믿었다. 야훼께서 이스라엘 백성을 찾아오시어 자기들이 당하는 괴로움을 살펴주셨다는 말을 듣고 땅에 엎드려 예배하였다.
