- And while he yet spake, lo, Judas, one of the twelve, came, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests and elders of the people.
- Now he that betrayed him gave them a sign, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that same is he: hold him fast.
- And forthwith he came to Jesus, and said, Hail, master; and kissed him.
- And Jesus said unto him, Friend, wherefore art thou come? Then came they, and laid hands on Jesus and took him.
- And, behold, one of them which were with Jesus stretched out his hand, and drew his sword, and struck a servant of the high priest's, and smote off his ear.

- 예수의 말씀이 채 끝나기도 전에 열두 제자의 하나인 유다가 다가왔다. 그를 따라 대사제들과 백성의 원로들이 보낸 무리가 칼과 몽둥이를 들고 몰려왔다.
- 배반자는 그들과 미리 암호를 짜고 "내가 입맞추는 사람이 바로 그 사람이니 붙잡아라." 하고 일러두었던 것이다.
- 그는 예수께 다가와서 "선생님, 안녕하십니까?" 하고 인사하면서 입을 맞추었다.
- 예수께서 "자, 이 사람아, 어서 할 일이나 하여라." 하고 말씀하시자 무리가 달려들어 예수를 붙잡았다.
- 그 때 예수와 함께 있던 사람들 중 하나가 칼을 빼어 대사제의 종의 귀를 쳐서 잘라버렸다.

- Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword.
- Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels?
- But how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled, that thus it must be?
- In that same hour said Jesus to the multitudes, Are ye come out as against a thief with swords and staves for to take me? I sat daily with you teaching in the temple, and ye laid no hold on me.
- But all this was done, that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples forsook him, and fled.

- 그것을 보시고 예수께서는 그에게 "칼을 도로 칼집에 꽂아라. 칼을 쓰는 사람은 칼로 망하는 법이다.
- 내가 아버지께 청하기만 하면 당장에 열두 군단도 넘는 천사를 보내주실 수 있다는 것을 모르느냐?
- 그러나 그렇게 한다면 이런 일이 반드시 일어나리라고 한 성서의 말씀이 어떻게 이루어지겠느냐?" 하시고는
- 무리를 둘러보시며 이렇게 말씀하셨다. "너희는 전에 내가 날마다 성전에 앉아서 가르치고 있을 때에는 나를 잡지 않다가 지금은 칼과 몽둥이를 들고 잡으러 왔으니 내가 강도란 말이냐?
- 그러나 이 모든 것은 예언자들이 기록한 말씀을 이루려고 일어난 것이다." 그 때에 제자들은 예수를 버리고 모두 달아났다.

- And they that had laid hold on Jesus led him away to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders were assembled.
- But Peter followed him afar off unto the high priest's palace, and went in, and sat with the servants, to see the end.
- Now the chief priests, and elders, and all the council, sought false witness against Jesus, to put him to death;
- But found none: yea, though many false witnesses came, yet found they none. At the last came two false witnesses,
- And said, This fellow said, I am able to destroy the temple of God, and to build it in three days.

- 사람들은 예수를 붙잡아 대사제 가야파의 집으로 끌고 갔는데 거기에는 율법학자들과 원로들이 모여 있었다.
- 베드로는 멀찍이 떨어져서 예수를 뒤따라 대사제의 관저에까지 가서 일의 결말을 보려고 안으로 들어가 경비원들 틈에 끼여 앉아 있었다.
- 대사제들과 온 의회는 예수를 사형에 처하려고 그에 대한 거짓 증거를 찾고 있었다.
- 많은 사람이 와서 거짓 증언을 하였지만 이렇다 할 증거를 얻지 못하였다. 그러다가 마침내 두 사람이 나타나서
- "이 사람이 하느님의 성전을 헐었다가 사흘 만에 다시 세울 수 있다고 말하였습니다." 하고 증언하였다.

- And the high priest arose, and said unto him, Answerest thou nothing? what is it which these witness against thee?
- But Jesus held his peace, And the high priest answered and said unto him, I adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us whether thou be the Christ, the Son of God.
- Jesus saith unto him, Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.
- Then the high priest rent his clothes, saying, He hath spoken blasphemy; what further need have we of witnesses? behold, now ye have heard his blasphemy.
- What think ye? They answered and said, He is guilty of death.

- 이 말을 듣고 대사제가 일어나 예수께 "이 사람들이 그대에게 이렇게 불리한 증언을 하는데 할 말이 없는가?" 하고 물었다.
- 그러나 예수께서는 아무 말씀도 하지 않으셨다. 대사제는 다시 "내가 살아 계신 하느님의 이름으로 명령하니 분명히 대답하여라. 그대가 과연 하느님의 아들 그리스도인가?" 하고 물었다.
- 예수께서는 그에게 "그것은 너의 말이다." 하시고는 "잘 들어두어라. 너희는 이제부터 사람의 아들이 전능하신 분의 오른편에 앉아 있는 것과 또 하늘의 구름을 타고 오는 것을 볼 것이다." 하고 말씀하셨다.
- 이 말을 듣고 대사제가 자기 옷을 찢으며 "이 사람이 이렇게 하느님을 모독했으니 이 이상 무슨 증거가 필요하겠소? 여러분은 방금 하느님을 모독하는 말을 듣지 않았소?
- 자, 어떻게 했으면 좋겠소?" 하고 묻자 사람들은 모두 "사형에 처해야 합니다." 하고 아우성쳤다.

- Then did they spit in his face, and buffeted him; and others smote him with the palms of their hands,
- Saying, Prophesy unto us, thou Christ, Who is he that smote thee?

- 그리고 그들은 예수의 얼굴에 침을 뱉고 주먹으로 치고 또 어떤 자들은 뺨을 때리면서
- "그리스도야, 너를 때린 사람이 누구인지 알아맞혀 보아라." 하며 조롱하였다.
