- And when the people complained, it displeased the LORD: and the LORD heard it; and his anger was kindled; and the fire of the LORD burnt among them, and consumed them that were in the uttermost parts of the camp.
- And the people cried unto Moses; and when Moses prayed unto the LORD, the fire was quenched.
- And he called the name of the place Taberah: because the fire of the LORD burnt among them.
- And the mixt multitude that was among them fell a lusting: and the children of Israel also wept again, and said, Who shall give us flesh to eat?
- We remember the fish, which we did eat in Egypt freely; the cucumbers, and the melons, and the leeks, and the onions, and the garlick:

- 백성들이 괴로워하며 불평하는 소리가 야훼의 귀에 다다랐다. 그 소리를 들으시고 야훼께서는 몹시 화가 나시어 불을 떨어뜨려 진지의 변두리를 살라버리셨다.
- 백성들이 살려달라고 울부짖는 소리를 듣고 모세가 야훼께 기도하자 불이 꺼졌다.
- 야훼의 불이 그들을 살랐다고 하여 그 곳 이름을 다브에라라고 부르게 되었다.
- 그들 가운데 섞여 살던 외국인들이 먹을 것이 없다고 불평을 하자, 이스라엘 백성도 다시 우는 소리를 했다. "아, 고기 좀 먹어봤으면.
- 이집트에서는 공짜로 먹던 생선, 오이, 참외, 부추, 파, 마늘이 눈앞에 선한데,

- But now our soul is dried away: there is nothing at all, beside this manna, before our eyes.
- And the manna was as coriander seed, and the colour thereof as the colour of bdellium.
- And the people went about, and gathered it, and ground it in mills, or beat it in a mortar, and baked it in pans, and made cakes of it: and the taste of it was as the taste of fresh oil.
- And when the dew fell upon the camp in the night, the manna fell upon it.
- Then Moses heard the people weep throughout their families, every man in the door of his tent: and the anger of the LORD was kindled greatly; Moses also was displeased.

- 지금 우리는 먹을 것이 없어 죽는구나. 보기만 해도 지긋지긋한 이 만나밖에 없다니."
- 만나는 고수풀 씨처럼 생겼고 빛깔은 브델리움 같았다.
- 백성들은 돌아다니며 그것을 모아다가 맷돌에 갈거나 절구에 빻아 냄비에다 구워서 빵을 만들었다. 그 맛은 기름에 튀겨낸 과자 맛이었다.
- 밤에 이슬이 내리면서 그들이 진을 친 곳에 만나도 함께 내리곤 하였다.
- 백성들이 저희들 천막 문 어귀에 끼리끼리 모여서 우는 소리가 모세의 귀에 들렸다. 야훼께서 크게 화가 나셨다. 모세는 몹시 걱정되어

- And Moses said unto the LORD, Wherefore hast thou afflicted thy servant? and wherefore have I not found favour in thy sight, that thou layest the burden of all this people upon me?
- Have I conceived all this people? have I begotten them, that thou shouldest say unto me, Carry them in thy bosom, as a nursing father beareth the sucking child, unto the land which thou swarest unto their fathers?
- Whence should I have flesh to give unto all this people? for they weep unto me, saying, Give us flesh, that we may eat.
- I am not able to bear all this people alone, because it is too heavy for me.
- And if thou deal thus with me, kill me, I pray thee, out of hand, if I have found favour in thy sight; and let me not see my wretchedness.

- 야훼께 울부짖었다. "어찌하여 이 종에게 이런 꼴을 보이십니까? 제가 얼마나 당신의 눈 밖에 났으면, 이 백성을 모두 저에게 지워주시는 겁니까?
- 이 백성이 모두 제 뱃속에서 생겼습니까? 제가 낳기라도 했습니까? 어찌하여 저더러 이 백성을 품고 선조들에게 주시겠다고 맹세하신 땅으로 가라고 하십니까? 유모가 젖먹이를 품듯이 품고 가라고 하십니까?
- 어디에서 이 백성이 다 먹을 만큼 고기를 얻어주란 말씀입니까? 저에게 먹을 고기를 내라고 아우성입니다.
- 이 많은 백성을 저 혼자서는 도저히 책임질 수 없습니다. 너무나 무거운 짐입니다.
- 진정 이렇게 하셔야 하겠다면, 차라리 저를 죽여주십시오. 그러나 제가 과히 밉지 않으시거든 이런 꼴을 더 이상 보지 않게 해주십시오."

- And the LORD said unto Moses, Gather unto me seventy men of the elders of Israel, whom thou knowest to be the elders of the people, and officers over them; and bring them unto the tabernacle of the congregation, that they may stand there with thee.
- And I will come down and talk with thee there: and I will take of the spirit which is upon thee, and will put it upon them; and they shall bear the burden of the people with thee, that thou bear it not thyself alone.
- And say thou unto the people, Sanctify yourselves against to morrow, and ye shall eat flesh: for ye have wept in the ears of the LORD, saying, Who shall give us flesh to eat? for it was well with us in Egypt: therefore the LORD will give you flesh, and ye shall eat.
- Ye shall not eat one day, nor two days, nor five days, neither ten days, nor twenty days;
- But even a whole month, until it come out at your nostrils, and it be loathsome unto you: because that ye have despised the LORD which is among you, and have wept before him, saying, Why came we forth out of Egypt?

- 야훼께서 모세에게 이르셨다. "너는 이 백성을 지도해 온 장로 칠십 명과 함께 나에게로 오너라. 그들을 데리고 만남의 장막으로 와서 서 있어라.
- 내가 내려가 거기에서 너와 말하리라. 그리고 너에게 내려주었던 영을 그들에게도 나누어주리라. 그리하면 그들이 백성에 대한 무거운 책임을 나누어 져서 너 혼자 애쓰지 않아도 될 것이다.
- 또 백성에게는 이제 곧 고기를 먹게 될 터이니, 내일까지 몸을 깨끗이 하고 마음을 단정히 가지라고 일러주어라. '아, 고기 좀 먹었으면, 이집트에 있을 때는 좋았는데.' 하며 울부짖는 너희 소리를 야훼가 듣고 이제 먹을 고기를 주리라.
- 하루, 이틀이 아니라, 닷새, 열흘, 스무 날이 아니라
- 한 달 동안 먹게 될 것이다. 코에서 냄새가 나서 구역질이 날 때까지 먹게 될 것이다. '어쩌자고 이집트를 떠났을까?' 하며 너희 가운데 있는 야훼를 외면하고 그의 앞에서 우는 소리를 했는데, 어찌 그렇게 되지 않겠느냐?"

- And Moses said, The people, among whom I am, are six hundred thousand footmen; and thou hast said, I will give them flesh, that they may eat a whole month.
- Shall the flocks and the herds be slain for them, to suffice them? or shall all the fish of the sea be gathered together for them, to suffice them?
- And the LORD said unto Moses, Is the LORD's hand waxed short? thou shalt see now whether my word shall come to pass unto thee or not.

- 모세가 반문하였다. "저를 둘러싼 백성은 육십만 대군입니다. 그런데 당신께서는 그들이 한 달간이나 먹을 고기를 주시겠다는 말씀입니까?
- 양을 얼마나 잡고 소를 얼마나 잡으면 되겠습니까? 바다의 고기를 다 모아오면 되겠습니까?"
- 야훼께서는 모세에게 "야훼의 손이 짧아서 못할 일이 있겠느냐? 나의 말이 그대로 이루어지는지 이루어지지 않는지 곧 네가 보게 되리라." 하고 꾸짖으셨다.
