- And a certain ruler asked him, saying, Good Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?
- And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? none is good, save one, that is, God.
- Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honour thy father and thy mother.
- And he said, All these have I kept from my youth up.
- Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.

- 유다의 지도자 한 사람이 "선하신 선생님, 제가 무엇을 해야 영원한 생명을 얻겠습니까?" 하고 예수께 물었다.
- 예수께서는 이렇게 말씀하셨다. "왜 나를 선하다고 하느냐? 선하신 분은 하느님 한 분뿐이시다.
- '간음하지 마라. 살인하지 마라. 도둑질하지 마라. 거짓 증언하지 마라. 네 부모를 공경하여라.' 한 계명들을 알고 있지 않느냐?"
- 그 사람은 "어려서부터 저는 이 모든 것을 다 지켜왔습니다." 하고 대답하였다.
- 예수께서는 이 말을 들으시고 "너에게는 아직도 해야 할 일이 하나 더 있다. 있는 것을 다 팔아 가난한 사람들에게 나누어주어라. 그리고 와서 나를 따라라. 그러면 하늘에서 보화를 얻게 될 것이다." 하셨다.

- And when he heard this, he was very sorrowful: for he was very rich.
- And when Jesus saw that he was very sorrowful, he said, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God!
- For it is easier for a camel to go through a needle's eye, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.
- And they that heard it said, Who then can be saved?
- And he said, The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.

- 그러나 그는 큰 부자였기 때문에 이 말씀을 듣고 무척 마음이 괴로웠다.
- 예수께서는 그를 보시고 이렇게 말씀하셨다. "재물이 많은 사람이 하늘 나라에 들어가는 것이 얼마나 어려운 일인지 모른다.
- 부자가 하느님 나라에 들어가는 것보다 낙타가 바늘귀를 빠져 나가는 것이 더 쉬울 것이다."
- 사람들이 이 말씀을 듣고 "그러면 구원받을 사람이 어디 있겠습니까?" 하고 물었다.
- 예수께서는 "사람의 힘으로는 할 수 없는 일이지만 하느님께서는 하실 수 있다." 하고 대답하셨다.

- Then Peter said, Lo, we have left all, and followed thee.
- And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or parents, or brethren, or wife, or children, for the kingdom of God's sake,
- Who shall not receive manifold more in this present time, and in the world to come life everlasting.

- 그 때에 베드로가 "보시다시피 저희는 가정을 버리고 주님을 따랐습니다." 하고 말하였다.
- 예수께서 이 말을 들으시고 "나는 분명히 말한다. 하느님 나라를 위하여 집이나 아내나 형제나 부모나 자녀를 버린 사람은
- 누구나 이 세상에서 여러 갑절의 상을 받을 것이며 오는 세상에서는 영원한 생명을 얻을 것이다." 하고 말씀하셨다.
