사사기

  본서는 여호수아 이후 왕정 수립 이전까지의 과도기적인 역사를 다루고 있으며, 하나님만이 이스라엘의 궁극적인 사사요, 구원자이심을 보여 주고 있다. 이스라엘은 군사적으로 가나안을 정복했지만, 가나안 문화와 종교의 영향으로 타락의 길로 들어서게 되었고 이에 대한 하나님의 징계로 이방 민족의 압제에 시달리는 혼란의 시기를 지냈다.

  본서는 사사 시대 이스라엘의 반복되는 역사적 상황을 묘사하고 있다. 이스라엘의 타락과 그로 말미암은 이방 국가로부터의 압제와 종살이, 이스라엘의 각성과 회개를 통해 하나님께서 사사를 세워 구원하시는 사건이 반복되고 있으며, 영적 타락으로 인한 이스라엘의 도덕적, 사회적 타락상을 기록함으로써 왕정의 필요성을 제기하고 있다.

 

 

사사기 1:1-2:23

 여호수아 사후, 미정복 지역을 정복하기 위해 유다 지파는 시므온과 연합하여 전쟁을 수행했고 여기서 옷니엘이 큰 활약을 했다. 나머지 지파들도 정복 활동에 나섰으나 대부분 실패하고 가나안 족속들과 타협하여 함께 살면서 그들의 우상을 섬겼다. 이러한 때에 하나님의 사자가 보김에 나타나 이스라엘의 불순종을 책망하며 그들이 쫓아내지 못한 자들로 말미암아 고통당하게 될 것이라고 경고하였다.
  
  계속되는 정복(1:1-1:36)    
 
  1. Now after the death of Joshua it came to pass, that the children of Israel asked the LORD, saying, Who shall go up for us against the Canaanites first, to fight against them?
  2. And the LORD said, Judah shall go up: behold, I have delivered the land into his hand.
  3. And Judah said unto Simeon his brother, Come up with me into my lot, that we may fight against the Canaanites; and I likewise will go with thee into thy lot. So Simeon went with him.
  4. And Judah went up; and the LORD delivered the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hand: and they slew of them in Bezek ten thousand men.
  5. And they found Adonibezek in Bezek: and they fought against him, and they slew the Canaanites and the Perizzites.
  1. 여호수아가 죽은 뒤, 이스라엘 백성은 어느 지파가 가나안족을 치러 앞장서 올라갈 것인가를 야훼께 물었다.
  2. "유다 지파가 올라가거라. 내가 이제 이 땅을 그들의 손에 부친다." 이러한 야훼의 분부를 받고
  3. 유다 지파는 동기인 시므온 지파에게 제안하였다. "우리에게 몫으로 돌아온 지방으로 너희도 함께 올라가 가나안 사람들을 치자. 그리하면 우리도 너희에게 몫으로 돌아간 지방으로 함께 진군하리라." 이리하여 시므온 지파도 함께 진군하게 되었다.
  4. 유다 지파가 쳐 올라가는데, 야훼께서 가나안족과 브리즈족을 그들의 손에 부쳐주셨으므로 베젝에서 일만 명이나 무찔렀다.
  5. 그 곳 베젝에서 그들은 아도니베젝과 접전하여 가나안족과 브리즈족을 무찔렀던 것이다.
  1. But Adonibezek fled; and they pursued after him, and caught him, and cut off his thumbs and his great toes.
  2. And Adonibezek said, Threescore and ten kings, having their thumbs and their great toes cut off, gathered their meat under my table: as I have done, so God hath requited me. And they brought him to Jerusalem, and there he died.
  3. Now the children of Judah had fought against Jerusalem, and had taken it, and smitten it with the edge of the sword, and set the city on fire.
  4. And afterward the children of Judah went down to fight against the Canaanites, that dwelt in the mountain, and in the south, and in the valley.
  5. And Judah went against the Canaanites that dwelt in Hebron: (now the name of Hebron before was Kirjatharba:) and they slew Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai.
  1. 도망치는 아도니베젝을 뒤쫓아가서 사로잡아 그의 엄지손가락과 엄지발가락을 자르자,
  2. 아도니베젝이 이렇게 탄식하였다. "내가 엄지손가락과 엄지발가락을 자르고 내 상 밑에서 부스러기를 주워 먹게 한 왕이 칠십 명이나 되더니, 하느님께서 내가 한 대로 나에게 갚으시는구나." 그는 예루살렘으로 끌려가 거기에서 죽었다.
  3. 유다 자손은 예루살렘을 쳐서 칼로 무찔러 점령하고는 그 성에 불을 놓았다.
  4. 그리고 나서 유다 자손은 산악 지대와 네겝 지방과 야산 지대로 내려가 거기에 사는 가나안족을 쳤다.
  5. 다시 유다 지파는 가나안족이 사는 헤브론으로 진군하였는데, 헤브론은 일찍이 키럇아르바라고 불리던 곳이었다. 거기에서 그들은 세새와 아히만과 달매를 무찔렀다.
  1. And from thence he went against the inhabitants of Debir: and the name of Debir before was Kirjathsepher:
  2. And Caleb said, He that smiteth Kirjathsepher, and taketh it, to him will I give Achsah my daughter to wife.
  3. And Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb's younger brother, took it: and he gave him Achsah his daughter to wife.
  4. And it came to pass, when she came to him, that she moved him to ask of her father a field: and she lighted from off her ass; and Caleb said unto her, What wilt thou?
  5. And she said unto him, Give me a blessing: for thou hast given me a south land; give me also springs of water. And Caleb gave her the upper springs and the nether springs.
  1. 그들은 다시 드빌 주민을 치러 갔는데, 드빌은 일찍이 키럇세벨이라고 불리던 곳이었다.
  2. 거기에서 갈렙은 키럇세벨을 점령하는 사람에게 자기의 딸 악사를 아내로 주겠다고 했다.
  3. 갈렙의 동생 크나즈의 아들인 오드니엘이 그 곳을 점령하고 악사를 아내로 맞아 갈렙의 사위가 되었다.
  4. 악사가 시집으로 떠날 때가 되어 오드니엘은 악사를 시켜 장인에게서 땅을 얻으려고 하였다. 악사가 나귀에서 내리는 것을 보고 갈렙은 왜 그러느냐고 물었다.
  5. "저를 네겝 지방으로 시집 보내시면서 아무 선물도 주시지 않겠습니까?" 그러면서 악사가 샘을 달라고 하자 갈렙은 윗샘 아랫샘을 주었다.
  1. And the children of the Kenite, Moses' father in law, went up out of the city of palm trees with the children of Judah into the wilderness of Judah, which lieth in the south of Arad; and they went and dwelt among the people.
  2. And Judah went with Simeon his brother, and they slew the Canaanites that inhabited Zephath, and utterly destroyed it. And the name of the city was called Hormah.
  3. Also Judah took Gaza with the coast thereof, and Askelon with the coast thereof, and Ekron with the coast thereof.
  4. And the LORD was with Judah; and he drave out the inhabitants of the mountain; but could not drive out the inhabitants of the valley, because they had chariots of iron.
  5. And they gave Hebron unto Caleb, as Moses said: and he expelled thence the three sons of Anak.
  1. 모세의 장인 호밥은 켄 사람이었는데, 그는 유다 자손들과 함께 종려나무 도시로부터 올라와 아랏 남방에 있는 유다 사막에 이르러 아말렉족과 어울려 살았다.
  2. 유다 지파는 동기인 시므온 지파와 함께 진군하여 스밧에 자리잡고 사는 가나안족을 무찌르고 전멸시켰다. 그래서 그 도시의 이름을 호르마라 부르게 되었다.
  3. 그러나 유다 지파는 가자와 그 일대, 아스클론과 그 일대, 에크론과 그 일대는 차지하지 못하였다.
  4. 야훼께서 함께 하시어 유다 지파는 산악 지대를 차지하였다. 그러나 평지에 자리잡은 사람들은 아직 몰아내지 못했는데, 그들에게 철병거가 있기 때문이었다.
  5. 모세의 지시대로 헤브론은 갈렙이 차지하였다. 갈렙은 거기에서 아낙의 세 아들을 몰아냈다.
  1. And the children of Benjamin did not drive out the Jebusites that inhabited Jerusalem; but the Jebusites dwell with the children of Benjamin in Jerusalem unto this day.
  2. And the house of Joseph, they also went up against Bethel: and the LORD was with them.
  3. And the house of Joseph sent to descry Bethel. (Now the name of the city before was Luz.)
  4. And the spies saw a man come forth out of the city, and they said unto him, Shew us, we pray thee, the entrance into the city, and we will shew thee mercy.
  5. And when he shewed them the entrance into the city, they smote the city with the edge of the sword; but they let go the man and all his family.
  1. 베냐민 자손은 예루살렘에 자리잡은 여부스족을 몰아내지 못하였다. 그래서 여부스족이 베냐민 자손과 함께 이날까지 예루살렘에 사는 것이다.
  2. 요셉 가문이 베델을 치러 올라갈 때에도 야훼께서 함께 하셨다.
  3. 일찍이 루즈라 불리던 베델 성을 요셉 가문이 정탐하게 되었다.
  4. 정탐꾼들은 그 성에서 나오는 사람을 붙들고 성으로 들어가는 길이 어디냐고 물으면서 길만 알려준다면 은혜를 잊지 않겠다고 약속하였다.
  5. 그 사람은 정탐꾼들에게 성으로 들어가는 길을 알려주었다. 그래서 그 성을 칼로 무찌르면서도 그 사람과 그의 온 일가는 죽이지 않았다.
  1. And the man went into the land of the Hittites, and built a city, and called the name thereof Luz: which is the name thereof unto this day.
  2. Neither did Manasseh drive out the inhabitants of Bethshean and her towns, nor Taanach and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Dor and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Ibleam and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Megiddo and her towns: but the Canaanites would dwell in that land.
  3. And it came to pass, when Israel was strong, that they put the Canaanites to tribute, and did not utterly drive them out.
  4. Neither did Ephraim drive out the Canaanites that dwelt in Gezer; but the Canaanites dwelt in Gezer among them.
  5. Neither did Zebulun drive out the inhabitants of Kitron, nor the inhabitants of Nahalol; but the Canaanites dwelt among them, and became tributaries.
  1. 그 사람은 헷족이 사는 지방으로 가서 한 성을 세우고 그 이름을 루즈라 하였는데 이날까지도 그 이름으로 불리고 있다.
  2. 므나쎄 지파는 벳스안과 거기 딸린 촌락들, 다아낙과 거기 딸린 촌락들을 차지하지 못하였다. 또 도르와 거기 딸린 촌락의 주민, 이블르암과 거기 딸린 촌락의 주민, 므기또와 거기 딸린 촌락의 주민도 몰아내지 못하여 그 땅에 온 가나안족이 그대로 살고 있었다.
  3. 그러나 이스라엘은 강력해지면서 가나안족을 아주 몰아내지 않고 부역을 시켰다.
  4. 에브라임 지파는 게젤에 자리잡고 사는 가나안족을 몰아내지 못하였다. 그래서 그 가나안족이 그들과 섞여 살게 되었다.
  5. 즈불룬은 키트론 주민과 나할롤 주민을 몰아내지 못하였다. 그래서 그 가나안족을 섞여 살게 하다가 부역을 시키게 되었다.
  1. Neither did Asher drive out the inhabitants of Accho, nor the inhabitants of Zidon, nor of Ahlab, nor of Achzib, nor of Helbah, nor of Aphik, nor of Rehob:
  2. But the Asherites dwelt among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land: for they did not drive them out.
  3. Neither did Naphtali drive out the inhabitants of Bethshemesh, nor the inhabitants of Bethanath; but he dwelt among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land: nevertheless the inhabitants of Bethshemesh and of Bethanath became tributaries unto them.
  4. And the Amorites forced the children of Dan into the mountain: for they would not suffer them to come down to the valley:
  5. But the Amorites would dwell in mount Heres in Aijalon, and in Shaalbim: yet the hand of the house of Joseph prevailed, so that they became tributaries.
  1. 아셀 지파는 아꼬와 시돈 주민을 몰아내지 못하였다. 또 아흘랍, 악집, 헬바, 아빅, 르홉도 차지하지 못하였다.
  2. 그래서 아셀 지파는 그 땅 주민인 가나안족과 섞여 살았다. 그들을 몰아내지 못했기 때문이었다.
  3. 납달리 지파는 벳세메스 주민과 벳아낫 주민을 몰아내지 못하였다. 그래서 그들은 그 땅 주민인 가나안족과 섞여서 살았다. 그러다가 벳세메스와 벳아낫 주민에게 부역을 시키게 되었다.
  4. 단 지파는 아모리족에게 밀려 산악 지대로 쫓겨 들어가 평지에는 내려올 엄두도 내지 못하게 되었다.
  5. 아모리족은 헤레스 산과 아얄론과 사알빔에 그대로 살았으나 마침내 요셉 가문에게 눌려 부역을 살게 되었다.
  1. And the coast of the Amorites was from the going up to Akrabbim, from the rock, and upward.
  1. 에돔족의 한 쪽 경계선은 아크라삠 비탈에서 시작하여 셀라로 해서 위쪽으로 뻗쳐 있었다.
 
  이스라엘의 타락(2:1-2:23)    
 
  1. And an angel of the LORD came up from Gilgal to Bochim, and said, I made you to go up out of Egypt, and have brought you unto the land which I sware unto your fathers; and I said, I will never break my covenant with you.
  2. And ye shall make no league with the inhabitants of this land; ye shall throw down their altars: but ye have not obeyed my voice: why have ye done this?
  3. Wherefore I also said, I will not drive them out from before you; but they shall be as thorns in your sides, and their gods shall be a snare unto you.
  4. And it came to pass, when the angel of the LORD spake these words unto all the children of Israel, that the people lifted up their voice, and wept.
  5. And they called the name of that place Bochim: and they sacrificed there unto the LORD.
  1. 야훼의 천사가 길갈에서 보김으로 올라가 이렇게 말하였다. "나는 너희를 이집트에서 이끌어내었고, 너희 조상들에게 주겠다고 맹세한 땅으로 너희를 이렇게 이끌어들였다. 나는 너희와 맺은 계약을 영원히 깨뜨리지 않으리라고 하였다.
  2. 그러므로 너희에게 이 땅 주민과 계약을 맺지 말고 그들의 제단을 헐어버리라고 하지 않았느냐? 그런데도 너희는 나의 명령을 듣지 않았다. 어찌 이럴 수 있느냐?
  3. 내가 다짐한다. 나는 그들을 너희 앞에서 몰아내지 않으리라. 그들은 너희를 잡는 그물이 되고 그들의 신은 너희를 옭아매는 올무가 될 것이다."
  4. 이스라엘의 온 백성은 야훼의 천사가 하는 말을 듣고 일제히 목놓아 울었다.
  5. 그 곳을 보김이라 부르는 데는 이런 사연이 있다. 거기에서 그들은 야훼께 제사를 드렸다.
  1. And when Joshua had let the people go, the children of Israel went every man unto his inheritance to possess the land.
  2. And the people served the LORD all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders that outlived Joshua, who had seen all the great works of the LORD, that he did for Israel.
  3. And Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of the LORD, died, being an hundred and ten years old.
  4. And they buried him in the border of his inheritance in Timnathheres, in the mount of Ephraim, on the north side of the hill Gaash.
  5. And also all that generation were gathered unto their fathers: and there arose another generation after them, which knew not the LORD, nor yet the works which he had done for Israel.
  1. 여호수아의 명령을 따라 이스라엘 백성은 흩어져 갔다. 유산으로 돌아온 자기 땅으로 가서 저마다 그 땅을 차지하였다.
  2. 여호수아 생전에 이스라엘 백성은 줄곧 야훼를 섬겼다. 여호수아가 죽은 다음에도 야훼께서 이스라엘에게 해주신 큰일을 목격한 장로들이 살아 있는 동안은 줄곧 야훼를 섬겼다.
  3. 눈의 아들, 야훼의 종 여호수아는 백십 세에 죽었다.
  4. 사람들은 그의 상속지인 에브라임 산악 지대 가스 산 북편 딤낫헤레스에 그를 묻었다.
  5. 그의 세대에 속한 사람으로서는 그가 죽어 조상에게로 돌아간 마지막 사람이 되었다. 그리고 야훼를 모르는 새 세대, 야훼께서 이스라엘에게 어떤 일을 해주셨는지 모르는 새 세대가 비롯되었다.
  1. And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the LORD, and served Baalim:
  2. And they forsook the LORD God of their fathers, which brought them out of the land of Egypt, and followed other gods, of the gods of the people that were round about them, and bowed themselves unto them, and provoked the LORD to anger.
  3. And they forsook the LORD, and served Baal and Ashtaroth.
  4. And the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel, and he delivered them into the hands of spoilers that spoiled them, and he sold them into the hands of their enemies round about, so that they could not any longer stand before their enemies.
  5. Whithersoever they went out, the hand of the LORD was against them for evil, as the LORD had said, and as the LORD had sworn unto them: and they were greatly distressed.
  1. 이스라엘 백성은 바알들을 섬겨 야훼의 눈에 거슬리는 못할 짓들을 하였다.
  2. 자기네 조상을 이집트 땅에서 이끌어내신 조상의 하느님 야훼를 저버리고, 주위 백성들이 섬기는 다른 신들을 따르며 절하여 야훼의 노여움을 샀다.
  3. 그들은 야훼를 저버리고 바알과 아스다롯을 섬겼다.
  4. 야훼께서는 크게 화를 내시어 이스라엘로 하여금 적에게 침략을 받아 노략질을 당하게 하셨다. 또한 둘러싸고 있는 원수들 손에 팔아 넘기셨으므로 그들은 도저히 원수들과 맞설 수가 없었다.
  5. 그들이 출정할 적마다 야훼께서 손수 그들을 치셨던 것이다. 야훼께서 경고하시며 맹세하신 대로 된 것이다. 그러나 그들이 심한 곤경에 빠지면,
  1. Nevertheless the LORD raised up judges, which delivered them out of the hand of those that spoiled them.
  2. And yet they would not hearken unto their judges, but they went a whoring after other gods, and bowed themselves unto them: they turned quickly out of the way which their fathers walked in, obeying the commandments of the LORD; but they did not so.
  3. And when the LORD raised them up judges, then the LORD was with the judge, and delivered them out of the hand of their enemies all the days of the judge: for it repented the LORD because of their groanings by reason of them that oppressed them and vexed them.
  4. And it came to pass, when the judge was dead, that they returned, and corrupted themselves more than their fathers, in following other gods to serve them, and to bow down unto them; they ceased not from their own doings, nor from their stubborn way.
  5. And the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel; and he said, Because that this people hath transgressed my covenant which I commanded their fathers, and have not hearkened unto my voice;
  1. 야훼께서는 판관들을 일으키시어 약탈자들의 손에서 그들을 건져내시곤 하셨다.
  2. 그러나 그들은 여전히, 자기들을 이끄는 판관들의 말을 듣지 않고 다른 신들에게 몸을 팔아 그 신들을 예배하였다. 그들은 자기 조상들이 야훼의 계명에 순종하며 걸어온 길을 그대로 살지 못하고 그렇게도 쉽사리 떠났던 것이다.
  3. 야훼께서는 그들을 건지시기 위하여 판관들을 일으키시고는 언제나 그 판관들과 함께 해주셨다. 그리하여 그 판관이 살아 있는 동안에는 그들을 거듭거듭 원수들의 손에서 건져주셨다. 야훼께서는 원수들에게 억눌려 울부짖는 그들의 소리를 들으시고 가엾게 생각하셨던 것이다.
  4. 그러나 그 판관이 죽으면, 그들은 다시 다른 신들을 따르고 그 앞에 절하며 섬겼는데, 그 하는 짓이 조상들보다도 더 나빴다. 굽힐 줄 모르고 못된 길로만 가는 버릇을 버리려고 하지 않았던 것이다.
  5. 그리하여 야훼께서는 몹시 화가 나셔서 이렇게 생각하셨다. "내가 이 백성의 조상들과 계약을 맺을 때 명령한 대로 이 백성은 살지 않는다. 통 내 말을 들으려고 하지 않는다.
  1. I also will not henceforth drive out any from before them of the nations which Joshua left when he died:
  2. That through them I may prove Israel, whether they will keep the way of the LORD to walk therein, as their fathers did keep it, or not.
  3. Therefore the LORD left those nations, without driving them out hastily; neither delivered he them into the hand of Joshua.
  1. 그러므로 나는 여호수아가 채 몰아내지 못하고 죽은 민족들을 이 백성 앞에서 결코 몰아내지 않으리라.
  2. 그들을 시켜 이스라엘을 시험해 보리라. 이 백성이 조상들처럼 내가 가르쳐준 길을 명심하고 바로 가는지 시험해 보리라."
  3. 야훼께서 그 민족들을 여호수아의 손에 부쳐 한꺼번에 몰아내지 아니하시고 남겨두신 것은 이 까닭이었다.
 
  사사(士師, 2:16)  원어적 의미는 ‘재판관’이며, 왕이 없는 부족 사회의 정치적, 군사적 지도자를 의미함  
  패괴(悖乖, 2:19)  부패하여 타락함
