- And as Jesus passed by, he saw a man which was blind from his birth.
- And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind?
- Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.
- I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.
- As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.

- 예수께서 길을 가시다가 태어나면서부터 눈먼 소경을 만나셨는데
- 제자들이 예수께 "선생님, 저 사람이 소경으로 태어난 것은 누구의 죄입니까? 자기 죄입니까? 그 부모의 죄입니까?" 하고 물었다.
- 예수께서는 이렇게 대답하셨다. "자기 죄 탓도 아니고 부모의 죄 탓도 아니다. 다만 저 사람에게서 하느님의 놀라운 일을 드러내기 위한 것이다.
- 우리는 해가 있는 동안에 나를 보내신 분의 일을 해야 한다. 이제 밤이 올 터인데 그 때는 아무도 일을 할 수가 없다.
- 내가 이 세상에 있는 동안은 내가 세상의 빛이다."

- When he had thus spoken, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and he anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay,
- And said unto him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam, (which is by interpretation, Sent.) He went his way therefore, and washed, and came seeing.
- The neighbours therefore, and they which before had seen him that he was blind, said, Is not this he that sat and begged?
- Some said, This is he: others said, He is like him: but he said, I am he.
- Therefore said they unto him, How were thine eyes opened?

- 이 말씀을 하시고 예수께서는 땅에 침을 뱉어 흙을 개어서 소경의 눈에 바르신 다음,
- "실로암 연못으로 가서 씻어라." 하고 말씀하셨다. (실로암은 '파견된 자'라는 뜻이다.) 소경은 가서 얼굴을 씻고 눈이 밝아져서 돌아왔다.
- 그의 이웃 사람들과 그가 전에 거지 노릇을 하고 있던 것을 보아온 사람들은 "저 사람은 앉아서 구걸하던 사람이 아닌가?" 하고 말하였다.
- 어떤 이들은 바로 그 사람이라고 하였고, 또 어떤 이들은 그 사람을 닮기는 했지만 그 사람은 아니라고도 하였다. 그 때 눈을 뜨게 된 사람이 "내가 바로 그 사람이오." 하고 말하였다.
- 사람들이 "그러면 당신은 어떻게 눈을 뜨게 되었소?" 하고 묻자

- He answered and said, A man that is called Jesus made clay, and anointed mine eyes, and said unto me, Go to the pool of Siloam, and wash: and I went and washed, and I received sight.
- Then said they unto him, Where is he? He said, I know not.
- They brought to the Pharisees him that aforetime was blind.
- And it was the sabbath day when Jesus made the clay, and opened his eyes.
- Then again the Pharisees also asked him how he had received his sight. He said unto them, He put clay upon mine eyes, and I washed, and do see.

- 그는 "예수라는 분이 진흙을 개어 내 눈에 바르시고 나더러 실로암에 가서 씻으라고 하시기에 가서 씻었더니 눈이 띄었습니다." 하고 대답하였다.
- 그들이 "그 사람이 어디 있소?" 하고 물었으나 그는 모른다고 대답하였다.
- 사람들은 소경이었던 그 사람을 바리사이파 사람들에게 데리고 갔다.
- 그런데 예수께서 진흙을 개어 그의 눈을 뜨게 하신 날은 바로 안식일이었다.
- 그래서 이번에는 바리사이파 사람들이 또 그에게 눈을 뜨게 된 경위를 물었다. 그는 "그분이 내 눈에 진흙을 발라주신 뒤에 얼굴을 씻었더니 이렇게 보게 되었습니다." 하고 대답하였다.

- Therefore said some of the Pharisees, This man is not of God, because he keepeth not the sabbath day. Others said, How can a man that is a sinner do such miracles? And there was a division among them.
- They say unto the blind man again, What sayest thou of him, that he hath opened thine eyes? He said, He is a prophet.
- But the Jews did not believe concerning him, that he had been blind, and received his sight, until they called the parents of him that had received his sight.
- And they asked them, saying, Is this your son, who ye say was born blind? how then doth he now see?
- His parents answered them and said, We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind:

- 바리사이파 사람들 중에는 "그가 안식일을 지키지 않는 것으로 보면 하느님에게서 온 사람이 아니오." 하는 사람도 있었고 "죄인이 어떻게 이와 같은 기적을 보일 수 있겠소?" 하고 맞서는 사람도 있어서 서로 의견이 엇갈렸다.
- 그들이 눈멀었던 사람에게 "그가 당신의 눈을 뜨게 해주었다니 당신은 그를 어떻게 생각하오?" 하고 다시 묻자 그는 "그분은 예언자이십니다." 하고 대답하였다.
- 유다인들은 그 사람이 본래는 소경이었는데 지금은 눈을 뜨게 되었다는 사실을 믿으려 하지 않고 마침내 그 사람의 부모를 불러
- "이 사람이 틀림없이 나면서부터 눈이 멀었다는 당신네 아들이오? 그런데 지금 어떻게 눈을 뜨게 되었소?" 하고 물었다.
- 그의 부모는 "예, 틀림없이 날 때부터 눈이 멀었던 저희 아들입니다.

- But by what means he now seeth, we know not; or who hath opened his eyes, we know not: he is of age; ask him: he shall speak for himself.
- These words spake his parents, because they feared the Jews: for the Jews had agreed already, that if any man did confess that he was Christ, he should be put out of the synagogue.
- Therefore said his parents, He is of age; ask him.
- Then again called they the man that was blind, and said unto him, Give God the praise: we know that this man is a sinner.
- He answered and said, Whether he be a sinner or no, I know not: one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see.

- 그러나 그가 어떻게 지금 보게 되었는지, 또 누가 눈을 뜨게 하여주었는지는 모릅니다. 다 자란 사람이니 그에게 물어보십시오. 제 일은 제가 대답하겠지요." 하였다.
- 그의 부모는 유다인들이 무서워서 이렇게 말한 것이다. 유다인들은 예수를 그리스도라고 고백하는 사람은 누구나 다 회당에서 쫓아내기로 작정하였던 것이다.
- 그의 부모가 "다 자란 사람이니 그에게 물어보십시오." 하고 말한 것도 그 때문이었다.
- 유다인들은 소경이었던 사람을 다시 불러놓고 "사실대로 말하시오. 우리가 알기로는 그 사람은 죄인이오." 하고 말하였다.
- 그는 이렇게 대답하였다. "그분이 죄인인지 아닌지는 모르겠습니다. 다만 내가 아는 것은 내가 앞 못 보는 사람이었는데 지금은 잘 보게 되었다는 것뿐입니다."

- Then said they to him again, What did he to thee? how opened he thine eyes?
- He answered them, I have told you already, and ye did not hear: wherefore would ye hear it again? will ye also be his disciples?
- Then they reviled him, and said, Thou art his disciple; but we are Moses' disciples.
- We know that God spake unto Moses: as for this fellow, we know not from whence he is.
- The man answered and said unto them, Why herein is a marvellous thing, that ye know not from whence he is, and yet he hath opened mine eyes.

- "그러면 그 사람이 당신에게 무슨 일을 했소? 어떻게 해서 당신의 눈을 뜨게 했단 말이오?" 하고 그들이 다시 묻자
- 그는 "그 이야기를 벌써 해드렸는데 그 때에는 듣지도 않더니 왜 다시 묻습니까? 당신들도 그분의 제자가 되고 싶습니까?" 하고 반문하였다.
- 이 말을 듣고 그들은 마구 욕설을 퍼부으며 "너는 그자의 제자이지만 우리는 모세의 제자이다.
- 우리가 아는 대로 모세는 직접 하느님의 말씀을 들은 사람이지만 그자는 어디에서 왔는지도 모른다." 하고 말하였다.
- 그는 이렇게 대꾸하였다. "분명히 내 눈을 뜨게 하여주셨는데 그분이 어디에서 오셨는지도 모른다니 이상한 일입니다.

- Now we know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and doeth his will, him he heareth.
- Since the world began was it not heard that any man opened the eyes of one that was born blind.
- If this man were not of God, he could do nothing.
- They answered and said unto him, Thou wast altogether born in sins, and dost thou teach us? And they cast him out.
- Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and when he had found him, he said unto him, Dost thou believe on the Son of God?

- 하느님께서는 죄인의 청은 안 들어주시지만 하느님을 공경하고 그 뜻을 실행하는 사람의 청은 들어주신다는 것을 우리는 알고 있습니다.
- 소경으로 태어난 사람의 눈을 뜨게 하여준 이가 있다는 말을 일찍이 들어본 적이 있습니까?
- 그분이 만일 하느님께서 보내신 분이 아니라면 이런 일은 도저히 하실 수가 없을 것입니다."
- 유다인들은 이 말을 듣고 "너는 죄를 뒤집어쓰고 태어난 주제에 우리를 훈계하려 드느냐?" 하며 그를 회당 밖으로 내쫓아버렸다.
- 눈멀었던 사람이 유다인들의 회당에서 쫓겨났다는 말을 들으시고 예수께서 그를 만났을 때에 "너는 사람의 아들을 믿느냐?" 하고 물으셨다.

- He answered and said, Who is he, Lord, that I might believe on him?
- And Jesus said unto him, Thou hast both seen him, and it is he that talketh with thee.
- And he said, Lord, I believe. And he worshipped him.
- And Jesus said, For judgment I am come into this world, that they which see not might see; and that they which see might be made blind.
- And some of the Pharisees which were with him heard these words, and said unto him, Are we blind also?

- "선생님, 믿겠습니다. 어느 분이십니까?" 하고 대답하자
- 예수께서 "너는 이미 그를 보았다. 지금 너와 말하고 있는 사람이 바로 그 사람이다." 하고 말씀하셨다.
- "주님, 믿습니다." 하며 그는 예수 앞에 꿇어 엎드렸다.
- 예수께서는 "내가 이 세상에 온 것은 보는 사람과 못 보는 사람을 가려, 못 보는 사람은 보게 하고 보는 사람은 눈멀게 하려는 것이다." 하고 말씀하셨다.
- 예수와 함께 있던 바리사이파 사람 몇이 이 말씀을 듣고 "그러면 우리들도 눈이 멀었단 말이오?" 하고 대들었다.

- Jesus said unto them, If ye were blind, ye should have no sin: but now ye say, We see; therefore your sin remaineth.

- 예수께서는 "너희가 차라리 눈먼 사람이라면 오히려 죄가 없을 것이다. 그러나 너희는 지금 눈이 잘 보인다고 하니 너희의 죄는 그대로 남아 있다." 하고 대답하셨다.
