	사무엘상 15:1-16:23 아말렉과의 전투에서 승리한 사울은 출애굽 당시 이스라엘을 대적했던 그들을 완전히 진멸하라는 하나님의 명령을 거역했다. 하나님께서는 사무엘을 통하여 불순종한 사울의 폐위를 선언하신 후, 베들레헴으로 보내 다윗에게 기름을 부어 사울을 대신할 왕으로 선택하셨다. 다윗은 사울에게 수금을 타서 악신을 떠나게 해주며 그의 사랑을 받았다.

	사울의 폐위 선언(15:1-15:35)

Samuel also said unto Saul, The LORD sent me to anoint thee to be king over his people, over Israel: now therefore hearken thou unto the voice of the words of the LORD.

Thus saith the LORD of hosts, I remember that which Amalek did to Israel, how he laid wait for him in the way, when he came up from Egypt.

Now go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not; but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass.

And Saul gathered the people together, and numbered them in Telaim, two hundred thousand footmen, and ten thousand men of Judah.

And Saul came to a city of Amalek, and laid wait in the valley.

사무엘이 사울에게 전하였다. "야훼께서 나를 보내시어 그대에게 기름을 부어 당신의 백성 이스라엘을 다스릴 왕으로 세우라고 하셨소. 그러니 이제 야훼의 말씀을 들으시오.

만군의 야훼께서 하시는 말씀이오. '아말렉 사람들이 이스라엘에게 한 짓, 즉 이집트에서 올라오는 이스라엘을 공격한 그 일 때문에 나는 그들에게 벌을 내리기로 하였다.

그러니 너는 당장에 가서 아말렉을 치고 그 재산을 사정 보지 말고 모조리 없애라. 남자와 여자, 아이와 젖먹이, 소떼와 양떼, 낙타와 나귀 할 것 없이 모조리 죽여야 한다.'"

그래서 사울이 총동원령을 내리고 델라임에서 점호해 보니 보병이 이십만이었고 유다측에서도 일만이 가담했다.

사울은 아말렉의 시에 이르러 골짜기에 군인들을 잠복시켜 놓고

And Saul said unto the Kenites, Go, depart, get you down from among the Amalekites, lest I destroy you with them: for ye shewed kindness to all the children of Israel, when they came up out of Egypt. So the Kenites departed from among the Amalekites.

And Saul smote the Amalekites from Havilah until thou comest to Shur, that is over against Egypt.

And he took Agag the king of the Amalekites alive, and utterly destroyed all the people with the edge of the sword.

But Saul and the people spared Agag, and the best of the sheep, and of the oxen, and of the fatlings, and the lambs, and all that was good, and would not utterly destroy them: but every thing that was vile and refuse, that they destroyed utterly.

Then came the word of the LORD unto Samuel, saying,

켄 사람들에게 전갈을 보냈다. "아말렉 편에서 떨어져 내려오라. 온 이스라엘 백성이 이집트에서 나올 때 그대들이 그렇게 잘해 주었는데 우리가 아말렉을 칠 때 그대들까지 치는 불상사가 일어나서야 되겠는가?" 이 말을 듣고 켄 사람들은 아말렉에서 떨어져 나왔다.

사울은 아말렉을 공격, 하윌라에서 시작하여 이집트 동쪽에 있는 수르까지 따라가며 쳤다.

그는 아말렉 왕 아각만 사로잡고 나머지 군대는 모조리 칼로 쳐죽였다.

사울이 거느리는 이스라엘 군은 아각뿐 아니라 양과 소 중에서도 좋은 놈, 기름진 짐승과 새끼 양들과 그 밖에 모든 탐스러운 것들을 없애버리기가 아까워 그대로 살려두고 쓸모 없고 하찮은 것들만 없애버렸다.

이 일이 있은 후 야훼의 말씀이 사무엘에게 내렸다.

It repenteth me that I have set up Saul to be king: for he is turned back from following me, and hath not performed my commandments. And it grieved Samuel; and he cried unto the LORD all night.

And when Samuel rose early to meet Saul in the morning, it was told Samuel, saying, Saul came to Carmel, and, behold, he set him up a place, and is gone about, and passed on, and gone down to Gilgal.

And Samuel came to Saul: and Saul said unto him, Blessed be thou of the LORD: I have performed the commandment of the LORD.

And Samuel said, What meaneth then this bleating of the sheep in mine ears, and the lowing of the oxen which I hear?

And Saul said, They have brought them from the Amalekites: for the people spared the best of the sheep and of the oxen, to sacrifice unto the LORD thy God; and the rest we have utterly destroyed.

"나는 사울을 왕으로 삼은 것을 후회한다. 그가 나에게 등을 돌렸고 내가 시키는 대로 하지 않았다." 사무엘은 애가 타서 밤새도록 야훼께 부르짖었다.

이튿날 아침 사무엘이 사울을 만나러 나서자 누가 그에게 이런 말을 전해 주었다. "사울 왕은 오는 길에 가르멜에다 자기의 승전비를 세워놓고 그곳을 떠나 길갈로 내려갔습니다."

사무엘이 사울을 찾아 만나자 사울이 "야훼께 복을 받으십시오. 저는 야훼께서 시키신 대로 다 하였습니다." 하며 인사를 하였다.

사무엘이 "양이 우는 소리가 들리는데 어찌 된 일이오? 또 소 우는 소리도 들리는데 어찌 된 일이오?" 하고 물었다.

사울이 "군인들이 아말렉에게서 빼앗아 온 것입니다. 양떼, 소떼 중에서도 좋은 놈을 살려두었다가 선생께서 모시는 야훼 하느님께 잡아 바치려고 끌어온 것입니다. 그 밖의 것은 모조리 없애버렸습니다." 하고 변명하자

Then Samuel said unto Saul, Stay, and I will tell thee what the LORD hath said to me this night. And he said unto him, Say on.

And Samuel said, When thou wast little in thine own sight, wast thou not made the head of the tribes of Israel, and the LORD anointed thee king over Israel?

And the LORD sent thee on a journey, and said, Go and utterly destroy the sinners the Amalekites, and fight against them until they be consumed.

Wherefore then didst thou not obey the voice of the LORD, but didst fly upon the spoil, and didst evil in the sight of the LORD?

And Saul said unto Samuel, Yea, I have obeyed the voice of the LORD, and have gone the way which the LORD sent me, and have brought Agag the king of Amalek, and have utterly destroyed the Amalekites.

사무엘이 "그만 하시오. 지난밤 야훼께서 나에게 내리신 말씀을 전할 터이니 들으시오." 하고 말하였다. 사울이 대답하였다. "어서 말씀하십시오."

사무엘이 입을 열었다. "그대는 본래 자신을 하찮은 사람이라고 생각했었지만 야훼께서 그대에게 기름을 부어 이스라엘 위에 왕으로 세우시고 이스라엘 지파들의 우두머리로 삼으셨소.

야훼께서 그대를 출정시키시면서 무엇이라고 하셨소? '가서 저 못된 아말렉족을 없애버려라. 그들을 쳐서 하나도 남기지 말고 모조리 전멸시켜라.' 하지 않으셨소?

그런데도 그대는 어찌하여 야훼의 말씀은 듣지 아니하고 전리품에만 덤벼들어 야훼의 눈에 거슬리는 일을 하였소?"

사울이 사무엘에게 변명하였다. "나는 야훼의 말씀대로 했습니다. 야훼께서 지시하시는 길로 가서 아말렉을 전멸시키고 아말렉 왕 아각만 잡아왔습니다.

But the people took of the spoil, sheep and oxen, the chief of the things which should have been utterly destroyed, to sacrifice unto the LORD thy God in Gilgal.

And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.

For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king.

And Saul said unto Samuel, I have sinned: for I have transgressed the commandment of the LORD, and thy words: because I feared the people, and obeyed their voice.

Now therefore, I pray thee, pardon my sin, and turn again with me, that I may worship the LORD.

단지 군인들이 죽여 없애야 할 짐승 가운데서 양과 소를 좋은 놈으로만 잡아왔습니다. 그것도 길갈에서 선생께서 모시는 야훼 하느님께 잡아 바치려고 한 것이었습니다."

그러자 사무엘이 말하였다. "야훼께서, 당신의 말씀을 따르는 것보다 번제나 친교제 바치는 것을 더 기뻐하실 것 같소? 순종하는 것이 제사 드리는 것보다 낫고, 그분 말씀을 명심하는 것이 염소의 기름기보다 낫소.

그분을 거역하는 것은 점쟁이 노릇만큼이나 죄가 되고 그분께 대드는 것은 우상을 위하는 것만큼이나 죄가 되오. 그대가 야훼의 말씀을 거역하였으니, 야훼께서도 그대를 왕의 자리에서 파면시키실 것이오."

사울이 사무엘에게 빌었다. "내가 죄를 지었습니다. 군인들이 무서워서 야훼의 명령과 선생의 말씀을 무시하고 그들이 하자는 대로 하였습니다.

이제 부디 나의 죄를 용서해 주십시오. 내가 야훼께 예배를 드리러 돌아갈 터인데 함께 가주시지 않겠습니까?"

And Samuel said unto Saul, I will not return with thee: for thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, and the LORD hath rejected thee from being king over Israel.

And as Samuel turned about to go away, he laid hold upon the skirt of his mantle, and it rent.

And Samuel said unto him, The LORD hath rent the kingdom of Israel from thee this day, and hath given it to a neighbour of thine, that is better than thou.

And also the Strength of Israel will not lie nor repent: for he is not a man, that he should repent.

Then he said, I have sinned: yet honour me now, I pray thee, before the elders of my people, and before Israel, and turn again with me, that I may worship the LORD thy God.

"같이 갈 수 없소. 그대가 야훼의 말씀을 저버렸으니, 야훼께서도 그대를 이스라엘 왕위에서 밀어내실 것이오." 이 말을 남기고 사무엘이

돌아서 가려고 하자 사울이 도포를 붙잡는 바람에 도포자락이 찢어졌다.

사무엘이 그에게 일렀다. "야훼께서는 오늘 이스라엘 나라를 그대에게서 찢어내시어 동족 가운데서 그대보다 훌륭한 사람에게 주셨소.

이스라엘을 비추시는 이는 빈말을 하시거나 변심하시는 분이 아니오. 그는 사람처럼 변덕을 부리는 분이 아니시오."

사울이 애원하였다. "내가 죄를 지었습니다. 이스라엘과 내 백성의 장로들 앞에서 내 체면을 한 번만 보아주십시오. 내가 선생께서 모시는 야훼 하느님께 예배 드릴 수 있도록 선생께서 저와 함께 돌아가 주시지 않겠습니까?"

So Samuel turned again after Saul; and Saul worshipped the LORD.

Then said Samuel, Bring ye hither to me Agag the king of the Amalekites. And Agag came unto him delicately. And Agag said, Surely the bitterness of death is past.

And Samuel said, As the sword hath made women childless, so shall thy mother be childless among women. And Samuel hewed Agag in pieces before the LORD in Gilgal.

Then Samuel went to Ramah; and Saul went up to his house to Gibeah of Saul.

And Samuel came no more to see Saul until the day of his death: nevertheless Samuel mourned for Saul: and the LORD repented that he had made Saul king over Israel.

그리하여 사무엘은 사울을 따라갔다. 사울은 야훼께 예배를 드렸다.

그리고 나서 사무엘은 아말렉 왕 아각을 데려오라고 하였다. 아각은 마침내 죽을 고비를 넘겼나 보다고 생각하며 좋아서 사무엘 앞으로 나왔다.

그러자 사무엘이 "너의 칼에 얼마나 많은 여자가 자식을 잃었는지 아느냐? 네 어미도 그런 여자들처럼 자식을 잃어야 마땅하다." 하며 야훼 앞에서 아각을 난도질하였다. 길갈에서 있었던 일이다.

사무엘은 라마로 돌아가고 사울은 기브아에 있는 궁궐로 돌아갔다.

사무엘은 죽는 날까지 사울을 두 번 다시 만나지 않았다. 그리고 야훼께서 사울을 이스라엘 위에 왕으로 세우셨다가 후회하신 일을 생각하며 통곡하여 마지않았다.

	기름 부음받은 다윗(16:1-16:23)

And the LORD said unto Samuel, How long wilt thou mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? fill thine horn with oil, and go, I will send thee to Jesse the Bethlehemite: for I have provided me a king among his sons.

And Samuel said, How can I go? if Saul hear it, he will kill me. And the LORD said, Take an heifer with thee, and say, I am come to sacrifice to the LORD.

And call Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will shew thee what thou shalt do: and thou shalt anoint unto me him whom I name unto thee.

And Samuel did that which the LORD spake, and came to Bethlehem. And the elders of the town trembled at his coming, and said, Comest thou peaceably?

And he said, Peaceably: I am come to sacrifice unto the LORD: sanctify yourselves, and come with me to the sacrifice. And he sanctified Jesse and his sons, and called them to the sacrifice.

야훼께서 사무엘에게 말씀하셨다. "내가 사울을 이스라엘 왕의 자리에서 파면시켰다고 해서 너는 언제까지 이렇게 슬퍼만 하고 있을 셈이냐? 기름을 뿔에 채워가지고 길을 떠나거라. 내가 너를 베들레헴에 사는 이새라는 사람에게로 보낸다. 그의 아들 가운데서 내가 왕으로 세울 사람을 하나 보아두었다."

사무엘이 "사울이 알면 저를 죽일 텐데 어떻게 갑니까?" 하고 여쭙자 야훼께서는, "암송아지 한 마리를 끌고 가거라. 야훼께 제사를 드리러 왔다고 하면서

이새를 제사에 초청하여라. 그러면 네가 할 일을 내가 알려주리라. 너는 내가 지적하여 일러주는 자에게 기름을 부어 그를 성별시켜 나에게 바쳐라." 하고 이르셨다.

사무엘은 야훼께서 이르시는 대로 하였다. 그가 베들레헴에 다다르자 그 성읍의 장로들은 안절부절못하고 그를 맞으며 "언짢은 일로 오신 것은 아니겠지요?" 하고 물었다.

"아니오. 좋은 일로 왔소. 야훼께 제사를 드리러 온 것이오. 그러니 모두들 목욕재계하고 함께 제사 드리러 갑시다." 이렇게 일러놓고 사무엘은 이새와 그의 아들들을 목욕재계시킨 다음 제사에 나오라고 초청하였다.

And it came to pass, when they were come, that he looked on Eliab, and said, Surely the LORD's anointed is before him.

But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.

Then Jesse called Abinadab, and made him pass before Samuel. And he said, Neither hath the LORD chosen this.

Then Jesse made Shammah to pass by. And he said, Neither hath the LORD chosen this.

Again, Jesse made seven of his sons to pass before Samuel. And Samuel said unto Jesse, The LORD hath not chosen these.

그들이 나타나자 사무엘은 엘리압을 보고 속으로 "바로 여기 야훼께서 기름 부어 성별하실 자가 있구나." 하고 생각하였다.

그러나 야훼께서는 사무엘에게 "용모나 신장을 보지는 마라. 그는 이미 내 눈 밖에 났다. 하느님은 사람들처럼 보지 않는다. 사람들은 겉모양을 보지만 나 야훼는 속마음을 들여다본다." 하고 이르셨다.

다음으로 이새는 아비나답을 불러 사무엘 앞에 나와 서게 하였다. 그러나 사무엘은 "이 아들도 야훼께서 뽑으신 아들이 아니오." 하고 말하였다.

이새가 다시 삼마를 보여드렸지만, 사무엘은 그도 야훼께서 뽑으신 아들이 아니라고 하였다.

이렇게 이새가 아들 일곱을 사무엘 앞에 나와 뵙게 하였다. 그러나 사무엘은 "이 아들 가운데는 야훼께서 뽑으신 아들이 없소." 하고

And Samuel said unto Jesse, Are here all thy children? And he said, There remaineth yet the youngest, and, behold, he keepeth the sheep. And Samuel said unto Jesse, Send and fetch him: for we will not sit down till he come hither.

And he sent, and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, and withal of a beautiful countenance, and goodly to look to. And the LORD said, Arise, anoint him: for this is he.

Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah.

But the Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the LORD troubled him.

And Saul's servants said unto him, Behold now, an evil spirit from God troubleth thee.

이새에게 그 밖에 아들은 또 없느냐고 물었다. 이새가 "막내가 또 있긴 하지만 지금 양을 치고 있습니다." 하고 대답하자, 사무엘이 이새에게 "사람을 보내 데려오시오. 그가 올 때까지 우리는 식탁에 앉을 수가 없소." 하고 일렀다.

이새가 사람을 보내어 데려온 그는 볼이 붉고 눈이 반짝이는 잘생긴 아이였다. 야훼께서 말씀을 내리셨다. "바로 이 아이다. 어서 이 아이에게 기름을 부어라."

그리하여 사무엘은 기름 채운 뿔을 집어 들고 형들이 보는 앞에서 그에게 기름을 부었다. 그러자 야훼의 영이 다윗에게 내려 그 날부터 줄곧 그에게 머물러 있었다. 사무엘은 길을 떠나 라마로 갔다.

야훼의 영이 사울을 떠나고 야훼께서 내리신 악령이 그를 공포에 몰아넣자

그의 신하들이 말하였다. "삼가 아룁니다. 하느님께서 내리신 악령이 임금님을 괴롭히고 있으니

Let our lord now command thy servants, which are before thee, to seek out a man, who is a cunning player on an harp: and it shall come to pass, when the evil spirit from God is upon thee, that he shall play with his hand, and thou shalt be well.

And Saul said unto his servants, Provide me now a man that can play well, and bring him to me.

Then answered one of the servants, and said, Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite, that is cunning in playing, and a mighty valiant man, and a man of war, and prudent in matters, and a comely person, and the LORD is with him.

Wherefore Saul sent messengers unto Jesse, and said, Send me David thy son, which is with the sheep.

And Jesse took an ass laden with bread, and a bottle of wine, and a kid, and sent them by David his son unto Saul.

부디 소인들에게 명하여 수금을 잘 타는 사람을 구해 오도록 하십시오. 하느님께서 임금님께 악령을 내리실 때마다 그로 하여금 수금을 타게 하시면 마음이 개운해지실 것입니다."

그래서 사울은 신하들에게 수금을 잘 타는 사람을 구하여 들이라고 명하였다.

시중들던 한 젊은이가 말하였다. "소인이 베들레헴 사람 이새의 한 아들을 알고 있는데 그는 수금을 잘 탈 뿐만 아니라 씩씩하고 날랜 용사로서 말도 잘하고 풍채도 좋은데다 야훼께서 함께 해주시는 사람입니다."

그리하여 사울은 이새에게 전갈을 보내어 양을 치고 있는 그의 아들 다윗을 보내라고 하였다.

이새는 빵을 나귀로 한 바리, 술을 가죽부대로 한 부대 그리고 새끼 양 한 마리를 마련하여 아들 다윗 편에 사울에게 보냈다.

And David came to Saul, and stood before him: and he loved him greatly; and he became his armourbearer.

And Saul sent to Jesse, saying, Let David, I pray thee, stand before me; for he hath found favour in my sight.

And it came to pass, when the evil spirit from God was upon Saul, that David took an harp, and played with his hand: so Saul was refreshed, and was well, and the evil spirit departed from him.

이리하여 다윗은 사울을 찾아와 그를 시중들게 되었는데 사울은 다윗을 몹시 사랑하여 그를 자기의 무기 당번으로 삼았다.

그리고 이새에게 전갈을 보냈다. "너의 아들이 마음에 들었다. 다윗으로 하여금 내 앞에서 시중들게 허락하여라."

하느님께서 보내신 악령이 사울에게 내릴 때마다 다윗은 수금을 뜯었다. 그러면 악령이 떠나고 사울은 회복되어 숨을 돌릴 수 있었다.
