	사무엘하 15:24-17:14 도피 길에 나선 다윗은 제사장들이 메고 온 언약궤를 예루살렘으로 귀환시키고, 후새를 보내 압살롬의 계략을 탐지하게 했다. 도피중에 다윗은 시바의 악한 궤계와 시므이의 저주로 수치와 시련을 겪었다. 후새는 다윗의 명령대로 압살롬에게 거짓 투항하여 그의 신임을 얻게 되었고, 결국 다윗을 해하려는 아히도벨의 악한 모략을 실패로 돌아가게 만들었다.

	다윗의 시련(15:24-16:14)

And lo Zadok also, and all the Levites were with him, bearing the ark of the covenant of God: and they set down the ark of God; and Abiathar went up, until all the people had done passing out of the city.

And the king said unto Zadok, Carry back the ark of God into the city: if I shall find favour in the eyes of the LORD, he will bring me again, and shew me both it, and his habitation:

But if he thus say, I have no delight in thee; behold, here am I, let him do to me as seemeth good unto him.

The king said also unto Zadok the priest, Art not thou a seer? return into the city in peace, and your two sons with you, Ahimaaz thy son, and Jonathan the son of Abiathar.

See, I will tarry in the plain of the wilderness, until there come word from you to certify me.

하느님의 계약궤를 멘 레위인 일행 가운데는 사독도 있었다. 그들은 온 백성이 성에서 나와 개울을 건너기를 기다리느라고 하느님의 궤를 에비아달 옆에 내려놓고 있었다.

왕이 사독에게 일렀다. "하느님의 궤를 다시 성 안으로 모시도록 하오. 만일 내가 야훼께 은혜를 입는다면 다시 돌아와 제자리에 모신 이 궤를 보게 되지 않겠소?

만일 하느님께서 나를 보고 싶어하지 않으신다면 어떤 처분을 내리시든지 받아야지요."

왕은 다시 사제 사독을 재촉하였다. "그대는 에비아달과 함께 성으로 돌아가시오. 부디 무사히 돌아가기를 바라오. 그대의 아들 아히마스와 에비아달의 아들 요나단도 데리고 가시오.

나는 그대들이 소식을 보내 올 때까지 광야 나루터에서 기다리겠소."

Zadok therefore and Abiathar carried the ark of God again to Jerusalem: and they tarried there.

And David went up by the ascent of mount Olivet, and wept as he went up, and had his head covered, and he went barefoot: and all the people that was with him covered every man his head, and they went up, weeping as they went up.

And one told David, saying, Ahithophel is among the conspirators with Absalom. And David said, O LORD, I pray thee, turn the counsel of Ahithophel into foolishness.

And it came to pass, that when David was come to the top of the mount, where he worshipped God, behold, Hushai the Archite came to meet him with his coat rent, and earth upon his head:

Unto whom David said, If thou passest on with me, then thou shalt be a burden unto me:

그래서 사독과 에비아달은 하느님의 궤를 모시고 예루살렘에 돌아가 거기 머물러 있게 되었다.

다윗은 머리를 가리고 울면서 맨발로 올리브 산 등성이를 걸어 올라갔다. 백성들도 모두 머리를 가리고 울면서 뒤따랐다.

다윗은 압살롬의 참모 가운데 아히도벨도 끼여 있다는 말을 전하여 듣고 이렇게 빌었다. "야훼님! 제발 아히도벨의 꾀를 뒤엎어주십시오."

다윗이 언덕 위에 올라 하느님을 경배하는 장소에 다다랐을 때였다. 하르키 사람 후새가 겉옷을 찢고 머리에 흙을 뒤집어쓰며 나와 다윗을 맞았다.

다윗은 "그대가 나를 따라오면 오히려 짐이 될 뿐이오." 하며 그에게 말하였다.

But if thou return to the city, and say unto Absalom, I will be thy servant, O king; as I have been thy father's servant hitherto, so will I now also be thy servant: then mayest thou for me defeat the counsel of Ahithophel.

And hast thou not there with thee Zadok and Abiathar the priests? therefore it shall be, that what thing soever thou shalt hear out of the king's house, thou shalt tell it to Zadok and Abiathar the priests.

Behold, they have there with them their two sons, Ahimaaz Zadok's son, and Jonathan Abiathar's son; and by them ye shall send unto me every thing that ye can hear.

So Hushai David's friend came into the city, and Absalom came into Jerusalem.

"성으로 돌아가 보시오. 돌아가서 압살롬에게 이제부터 그의 신하가 되겠다고 하시오. 지난날에는 부왕의 신하였으나, 지금은 임금의 신하가 되겠다고 하시오. 그리고는 아히도벨의 꾀를 뒤엎도록 하시오.

그대를 도와줄 사람으로 사제 사독과 에비아달이 거기 있으니, 대궐에서 무슨 말이든지 듣는 대로 사독과 에비아달에게 알려주시오.

그들과 함께 그들의 두 아들이 있소. 사독의 아들 아히마스와 에비아달의 아들 요나단이 그들이오. 그대는 무슨 말이든지 듣는 대로 그 두 사람을 시켜 나에게 알리도록 하시오."

그래서 다윗의 측근 후새가 성으로 들어가니 때마침 압살롬도 예루살렘에 들어와 있었다.

And when David was a little past the top of the hill, behold, Ziba the servant of Mephibosheth met him, with a couple of asses saddled, and upon them two hundred loaves of bread, and an hundred bunches of raisins, and an hundred of summer fruits, and a bottle of wine.

And the king said unto Ziba, What meanest thou by these? And Ziba said, The asses be for the king's household to ride on; and the bread and summer fruit for the young men to eat; and the wine, that such as be faint in the wilderness may drink.

And the king said, And where is thy master's son? And Ziba said unto the king, Behold, he abideth at Jerusalem: for he said, To day shall the house of Israel restore me the kingdom of my father.

Then said the king to Ziba, Behold, thine are all that pertained unto Mephibosheth. And Ziba said, I humbly beseech thee that I may find grace in thy sight, my lord, O king.

And when king David came to Bahurim, behold, thence came out a man of the family of the house of Saul, whose name was Shimei, the son of Gera: he came forth, and cursed still as he came.

다윗이 산등성이를 넘어서 조금 지나자 므비보셋의 시종 시바가 안장 얹은 나귀 두 마리에 빵 이백 개, 건포도 백 송이, 여름 과일 백 개, 그리고 포도주 한 말을 싣고 왔다.

"이게 모두 웬 것이냐?"고 왕이 묻자 시바가 대답하였다. "이 나귀들은 임금님의 가족이 타실 것들입니다. 빵과 여름 과일은 임금님의 신하들이 먹을 것입니다. 포도주는 광야에서 지쳤을 때 아무나 마시라고 마련해 온 것입니다."

왕이 다시 "네가 섬기던 옛 상전의 손자 되는 분은 지금 어디 계시냐?" 하고 묻자, 그가 대답하였다. "지금 예루살렘에 남아 계십니다. 그는 이번에 이스라엘 가문이 자기 할아버지의 왕권을 자기에게 돌려줄 줄로 알고 계십니다." 시바의 말을 듣고,

왕은 "므비보셋의 재산은 다 네가 가져라." 하고 말하였다. 시바가 절하며 말하였다. "성은이 망극합니다. 길이 성은을 입는 몸이 되기가 소원입니다."

다윗 왕이 바후림에 다다랐을 때였다. 사울의 친척 하나가 거기에서 나오면서 입에 담지 못할 욕설을 퍼부었다. 그는 게라의 아들로서 이름은 시므이였다.

And he cast stones at David, and at all the servants of king David: and all the people and all the mighty men were on his right hand and on his left.

And thus said Shimei when he cursed, Come out, come out, thou bloody man, and thou man of Belial:

The LORD hath returned upon thee all the blood of the house of Saul, in whose stead thou hast reigned; and the LORD hath delivered the kingdom into the hand of Absalom thy son: and, behold, thou art taken in thy mischief, because thou art a bloody man.

Then said Abishai the son of Zeruiah unto the king, Why should this dead dog curse my lord the king? let me go over, I pray thee, and take off his head.

And the king said, What have I to do with you, ye sons of Zeruiah? so let him curse, because the LORD hath said unto him, Curse David. Who shall then say, Wherefore hast thou done so?

그는 왕과 신하들, 그리고 좌우에 모시고 선 군인과 장교들에게 마구 돌팔매질을 하며

이런 말로 다윗을 욕하는 것이었다. "꺼져라! 이 살인자야, 꺼져라! 이 불한당 같은 놈아,

사울 일족을 죽이고 나라를 빼앗은 놈, 그 원수를 갚으시려고 이제 야훼께서 이 나라를 네 손에서 빼앗아 네 아들 압살롬의 손에 넘겨주신 것이다. 이 살인자야, 네가 이제 죄없는 사람 죽인 죄를 받는 줄이나 알아라."

스루야의 아들 아비새가 보다못해 왕에게 아뢰었다. "이 죽은 개만도 못한 놈이 무엄하게도 임금님을 욕하는데 그냥 내버려두십니까? 제가 당장 건너가 목을 자르겠습니다."

"내가 욕을 보는데 그대 스루야의 후손들한테야 무슨 상관이 있소? 야훼께서 나를 욕하라고 저 사람을 보내신 것이라면 내가 어찌 감히 왜 이러시느냐고 하겠소?" 이렇게 말하고 나서,

And David said to Abishai, and to all his servants, Behold, my son, which came forth of my bowels, seeketh my life: how much more now may this Benjamite do it? let him alone, and let him curse; for the LORD hath bidden him.

It may be that the LORD will look on mine affliction, and that the LORD will requite me good for his cursing this day.

And as David and his men went by the way, Shimei went along on the hill's side over against him, and cursed as he went, and threw stones at him, and cast dust.

And the king, and all the people that were with him, came weary, and refreshed themselves there.

다윗 왕은 아비새와 모든 신하들에게 말하였다. "나의 핏줄에서 태어난 친자식마저 날 죽이려고 날뛰는 판에 베냐민 사람이야 더 말해 무엇하겠소? 야훼께서 시키신 일이니 욕하게 그냥 내버려두시오.

혹시 야훼께서 내가 당하는 이 비참한 꼴을 보시고 오늘 받는 이 저주 대신에 복을 내려주실지 알겠소?"

다윗이 일행을 거느리고 걸음을 옮기는데, 시므이는 다윗이 가는 길을 따라 산등성이를 타고 오면서 먼지를 일으키고 돌을 던지며 대놓고 욕지거리를 퍼부었다.

왕 일행은 요르단 강에 이르러 모두들 지쳐서 한 숨 돌리고 있었다.

	아히도벨과 후새의 모략(16:15-17:14)

And Absalom, and all the people the men of Israel, came to Jerusalem, and Ahithophel with him.

And it came to pass, when Hushai the Archite, David's friend, was come unto Absalom, that Hushai said unto Absalom, God save the king, God save the king.

And Absalom said to Hushai, Is this thy kindness to thy friend? why wentest thou not with thy friend?

And Hushai said unto Absalom, Nay; but whom the LORD, and this people, and all the men of Israel, choose, his will I be, and with him will I abide.

And again, whom should I serve? should I not serve in the presence of his son? as I have served in thy father's presence, so will I be in thy presence.

그러는 동안 압살롬은 자기를 따르는 백성들을 데리고 예루살렘에 입성하였다. 아히도벨도 함께 있었다.

다윗의 측근이던 하르키 사람 후새가 압살롬에게 나아가 외쳤다. "임금님, 만수무강을 빕니다. 임금님, 만수무강을 빕니다."

그러자 압살롬이 후새를 꾸짖었다. "그대의 충성심이 겨우 이 정도요? 가깝게 모시던 이를 따라가지 않고 이렇게 남아 있다니 될 말이오?"

후새가 압살롬에게 대답하였다. "지당하신 말씀이오나 소인은 야훼께서 뽑으시고 이 백성과 온 이스라엘이 택해 세운 그런 분을 모시기로 하였습니다.

여태껏 섬겨오던 분의 아드님말고 소인이 누구를 섬기겠습니까? 전에 부왕을 섬겼듯이 소인은 이제 임금님을 섬기겠습니다."

Then said Absalom to Ahithophel, Give counsel among you what we shall do.

And Ahithophel said unto Absalom, Go in unto thy father's concubines, which he hath left to keep the house; and all Israel shall hear that thou art abhorred of thy father: then shall the hands of all that are with thee be strong.

So they spread Absalom a tent upon the top of the house; and Absalom went in unto his father's concubines in the sight of all Israel.

And the counsel of Ahithophel, which he counselled in those days, was as if a man had enquired at the oracle of God: so was all the counsel of Ahithophel both with David and with Absalom.

압살롬이 앞으로 무슨 일을 해야 할지 의견을 묻자, 아히도벨이 아뢰었다.

"부왕이 궁궐을 지키라고 남겨두고 간 후궁들과 관계하십시오. 임금님께서 친아버지마저 욕을 보였다는 소식이 온 이스라엘에 퍼지면 임금님을 받드는 사람들은 의기충천할 것입니다."

압살롬은 그의 말대로 궁궐의 옥상에 천막을 쳐 신방을 마련한 다음, 온 이스라엘이 보는 앞에서 부왕의 후궁들과 관계를 했다.

그 때 사람들은 하느님께 나가 말씀을 받듯 아히도벨의 의견을 받아들였다. 다윗도 그러했지만 압살롬도 그러하였다.

Moreover Ahithophel said unto Absalom, Let me now choose out twelve thousand men, and I will arise and pursue after David this night:

And I will come upon him while he is weary and weak handed, and will make him afraid: and all the people that are with him shall flee; and I will smite the king only:

And I will bring back all the people unto thee: the man whom thou seekest is as if all returned: so all the people shall be in peace.

And the saying pleased Absalom well, and all the elders of Israel.

Then said Absalom, Call now Hushai the Archite also, and let us hear likewise what he saith.

아히도벨이 다시 압살롬에게 진언하였다. "소인이 이제 일만 이천 명을 뽑아가지고, 오늘 밤으로 당장 다윗을 쫓아가겠습니다. 허락해 주십시오.

그가 지쳐 기가 꺾여 있을 때 덮치는 것이 좋겠습니다. 다윗을 그렇게 혼내주면 그를 따르던 백성들은 모두 도망칠 것입니다. 왕만 죽이면

백성들은 모두 신부가 신랑에게로 돌아오듯이 임금님께로 돌아올 것입니다. 임금님께서 죽이려는 사람은 오직 그 한 사람뿐이므로, 다른 백성은 머리카락 하나 다치지 않을 것입니다."

이 말은 압살롬뿐 아니라 모든 이스라엘 장로들의 마음에도 들었다.

그러나 압살롬은 하르키 사람 후새를 불러들여 그의 의견도 한번 들어보자고 하였다.

And when Hushai was come to Absalom, Absalom spake unto him, saying, Ahithophel hath spoken after this manner: shall we do after his saying? if not; speak thou.

And Hushai said unto Absalom, The counsel that Ahithophel hath given is not good at this time.

For, said Hushai, thou knowest thy father and his men, that they be mighty men, and they be chafed in their minds, as a bear robbed of her whelps in the field: and thy father is a man of war, and will not lodge with the people.

Behold, he is hid now in some pit, or in some other place: and it will come to pass, when some of them be overthrown at the first, that whosoever heareth it will say, There is a slaughter among the people that follow Absalom.

And he also that is valiant, whose heart is as the heart of a lion, shall utterly melt: for all Israel knoweth that thy father is a mighty man, and they which be with him are valiant men.

후새가 들어오자 압살롬은 아히도벨이 이러저러하게 말하더라고 하면서 아히도벨의 말대로 하는 것이 좋을지, 아니면 달리 의견이 있는지 말해 보라고 하였다.

이번 일만은 아히도벨의 의견이 좋지 못한 것 같다고 하며 후새는 압살롬에게 이렇게 말하였다.

"임금님께서 아시다시피 임금님의 아버님이나 그의 부하들은 용사들입니다. 사납기로 말하면 새끼를 빼앗긴 곰과도 같습니다. 더구나 임금님의 아버님은 전략에 뛰어난 분입니다. 결코 자기 군사들과 함께 자지는 않을 것입니다.

아마 지금쯤 그는 굴 같은 데 감쪽같이 숨어 있을 것입니다. 싸움은 이제 시작인데 임금님의 군사들이 죽기라도 해서 '압살롬을 따르던 군대가 패했다.' 하는 소문이라도 나면

사자처럼 용맹스러운 용사들도 간담이 서늘해질 것입니다. 임금님의 아버님뿐 아니라, 그를 모시는 자들이 또 어떤 용사들이라는 것은 이스라엘이 다 알고 있습니다.

Therefore I counsel that all Israel be generally gathered unto thee, from Dan even to Beersheba, as the sand that is by the sea for multitude; and that thou go to battle in thine own person.

So shall we come upon him in some place where he shall be found, and we will light upon him as the dew falleth on the ground: and of him and of all the men that are with him there shall not be left so much as one.

Moreover, if he be gotten into a city, then shall all Israel bring ropes to that city, and we will draw it into the river, until there be not one small stone found there.

And Absalom and all the men of Israel said, The counsel of Hushai the Archite is better than the counsel of Ahithophel. For the LORD had appointed to defeat the good counsel of Ahithophel, to the intent that the LORD might bring evil upon Absalom.

그러니 제 생각은 이렇습니다. 단에서 브엘세바에 이르기까지의 이스라엘에서 군인들을 바닷가의 모래알만큼 많이 모아들여 임금님께서 친히 거느리시고 진군하시는 것이 좋을 것입니다.

우리는 그가 있는 곳만 알아내면 땅에 이슬이 내리듯 덮쳐 그의 집안은 물론 그를 따르던 사람을 모조리 죽여 없앨 수 있을 것입니다.

만일 그가 어떤 성 안에 피해 들어간다면 온 이스라엘이 그 성을 굵은 동아줄로 묶어 개천 바닥으로 끌어내어 돌멩이 하나 남아나지 않게 할 것입니다."

압살롬과 모든 이스라엘 사람들은 아히도벨의 생각보다는 하르키 사람 후새의 생각이 낫다고 결정을 내렸다. 야훼께서 압살롬이 화를 입도록 아히도벨의 좋은 수를 꺾으시기로 작정하셨고, 일은 그대로 되었던 것이다.
