- After these things Paul departed from Athens, and came to Corinth;
- And found a certain Jew named Aquila, born in Pontus, lately come from Italy, with his wife Priscilla; (because that Claudius had commanded all Jews to depart from Rome:) and came unto them.
- And because he was of the same craft, he abode with them, and wrought: for by their occupation they were tentmakers.
- And he reasoned in the synagogue every sabbath, and persuaded the Jews and the Greeks.
- And when Silas and Timotheus were come from Macedonia, Paul was pressed in the spirit, and testified to the Jews that Jesus was Christ.

- 그 뒤 바울로는 아테네를 떠나 고린토로 왔는데
- 거기에서 그는 본도 출신인 아퀼라라는 유다 사람을 만나게 되었다. 아퀼라는 글라우디오 황제가 모든 유다인은 로마에서 나가라는 칙령을 내렸기 때문에 얼마 전에 자기 아내 브리스킬라를 데리고 이탈리아를 떠나온 사람이었다. 바울로가 그들을 찾아갔는데
- 마침 직업이 같았기 때문에 그 집에서 함께 살면서 일을 하였다. 천막을 만드는 것이 그들의 직업이었다.
- 바울로는 안식일마다 회당에서 유다인과 그리스인들과 함께 토론을 벌이고 그들을 설복시키려고 애썼다.
- 실라와 디모테오가 마케도니아에서 내려온 후로 바울로는 유다인들에게 예수가 그리스도라는 것을 증언하면서 오로지 전도에만 힘썼다.

- And when they opposed themselves, and blasphemed, he shook his raiment, and said unto them, Your blood be upon your own heads; I am clean; from henceforth I will go unto the Gentiles.
- And he departed thence, and entered into a certain man's house, named Justus, one that worshipped God, whose house joined hard to the synagogue.
- And Crispus, the chief ruler of the synagogue, believed on the Lord with all his house; and many of the Corinthians hearing believed, and were baptized.
- Then spake the Lord to Paul in the night by a vision, Be not afraid, but speak, and hold not thy peace:
- For I am with thee, and no man shall set on thee to hurt thee: for I have much people in this city.

- 그러나 유다인들이 대들며 욕설을 퍼붓자 그는 옷의 먼지를 털면서 "잘못의 책임은 당신들이 지시오. 나에게는 잘못이 없소. 이제 나는 이방인들에게로 갑니다." 하고는
- 그 자리를 떠나 디디오 유스도라는 사람의 집으로 갔다. 이 사람은 하느님을 공경하는 이방인으로서 바로 회당 옆에 살고 있었다.
- 회당장 그리스보는 온 집안 식구와 함께 주님을 믿게 되었고 그 밖에도 많은 고린토 사람들이 바울로의 설교를 듣고 예수를 믿어 세례를 받았다.
- 어느 날 밤 주께서 신비로운 영상으로 바울로에게 나타나 "겁내지 마라. 잠자코 있지 말고 전도를 계속하여라.
- 내가 너와 함께 있을 터이니 너에게 손을 대어 해칠 사람은 하나도 없을 것이다. 이 도시에는 내 백성이 많다." 하고 말씀하셨다.

- And he continued there a year and six months, teaching the word of God among them.
- And when Gallio was the deputy of Achaia, the Jews made insurrection with one accord against Paul, and brought him to the judgment seat,
- Saying, This fellow persuadeth men to worship God contrary to the law.
- And when Paul was now about to open his mouth, Gallio said unto the Jews, If it were a matter of wrong or wicked lewdness, O ye Jews, reason would that I should bear with you:
- But if it be a question of words and names, and of your law, look ye to it; for I will be no judge of such matters.

- 바울로는 일 년 육 개월 동안 거기에 머물면서 사람들에게 하느님의 말씀을 가르쳤다.
- 갈리오가 아카이아 지방 총독으로 있을 때 유다인들이 작당을 하여 바울로를 붙잡아 법정으로 끌고 가서
- "이 사람은 하느님을 예배하라고 사람들을 충동하며 법을 어기고 있습니다." 하고 고발하였다.
- 바울로가 답변하려 하자 갈리오는 유다인들에게 "유다인 여러분, 만일 이 사건이 무슨 범법이나 악한 범행에 관련된 것이라면 당신들의 고발을 들어주겠소.
- 그러나 이것은 말과 명칭과 당신들의 율법에 관련된 것이니 만큼 당신들이 알아서 처리하시오. 나는 이런 사건을 처리하는 재판관 노릇을 하고 싶지 않소." 하고 말하였다.

- And he drave them from the judgment seat.
- Then all the Greeks took Sosthenes, the chief ruler of the synagogue, and beat him before the judgment seat. And Gallio cared for none of those things.

- 그리고 나서 그들을 법정에서 몰아내자
- 그들은 일제히 회당장 소스테네를 붙들어다가 법정 앞에서 매질을 하였다. 그러나 갈리오는 그 일에 도무지 참견하지 않았다.
