욥기 16:1-19:29

 욥은 친구들을 ‘번뇌케 하는 위로자’라고 고백하였으며, 하나님께 눈물의 기도를 드리면서 자신의 결백함을 보증해 줄 보증물을 달라고 요청하였다. 빌닷은 친구들을 원망하는 욥을 책망하며 욥을 악인에 비유하여 그에게 닥칠 외적인 재앙을 장황하게 묘사하였다. 그러자 욥은 자신에게 닥친 고난은 하나님의 주권적 의사로 말미암았으며, 이제 근거 없는 비방은 그만 두고 긍휼한 마음을 가져 줄 것과 끝까지 비방하면 하나님의 심판을 피하지 못할 것이라고 하였다. 그리고 죽은 후에 하나님 보기를 사모하였다.
  
  욥의 변증(16:1-17:16)    
 
  1. Then Job answered and said,
  2. I have heard many such things: miserable comforters are ye all.
  3. Shall vain words have an end? or what emboldeneth thee that thou answerest?
  4. I also could speak as ye do: if your soul were in my soul's stead, I could heap up words against you, and shake mine head at you.
  5. But I would strengthen you with my mouth, and the moving of my lips should asswage your grief.
  1. 욥이 말을 받았다.
  2. 그런 소리는 귀에 못이 박힐 정도로 들었네. 자네들이 한다는 위로는 기껏해야 괴로움을 줄 뿐,
  3. 그 헛된 말은 끝도 없는가? 자네들은 도대체 무슨 속셈으로 그런 말을 하는가?
  4. 자네들이 내 처지에 있다면 나도 분명히 자네들과 같은 말을 했을 것일세. 기가 막혀 머리를 저으면서 근사한 말을 늘어놓았을 테지.
  5. 입에 침이 마르도록 격려하는 말을 했을 테지.
  1. Though I speak, my grief is not asswaged: and though I forbear, what am I eased?
  2. But now he hath made me weary: thou hast made desolate all my company.
  3. And thou hast filled me with wrinkles, which is a witness against me: and my leanness rising up in me beareth witness to my face.
  4. He teareth me in his wrath, who hateth me: he gnasheth upon me with his teeth; mine enemy sharpeneth his eyes upon me.
  5. They have gaped upon me with their mouth; they have smitten me upon the cheek reproachfully; they have gathered themselves together against me.
  1. 아무리 말을 해보아도, 이 괴로움 멎지 않고 입을 다물어보아도, 이 아픔 가시지 않는구나.
  2. 하느님께서 나를 만신창이로 만드셨는데 모두들 떼지어 달려들다니.
  3. 그가 증인으로 내 앞에 서시는데 이 야윈 모습마저 나에게 불리한 증거가 되는구나.
  4. 찢어 죽일 듯이 화가 나서 이를 갈며 달려드시는데, 나의 원수들은 눈을 흘기며
  5. 입을 벌리고 달려드네. 욕설을 퍼부으며 뺨을 후려치고 한 무리가 되어 달려드네.
  1. God hath delivered me to the ungodly, and turned me over into the hands of the wicked.
  2. I was at ease, but he hath broken me asunder: he hath also taken me by my neck, and shaken me to pieces, and set me up for his mark.
  3. His archers compass me round about, he cleaveth my reins asunder, and doth not spare; he poureth out my gall upon the ground.
  4. He breaketh me with breach upon breach, he runneth upon me like a giant.
  5. I have sewed sackcloth upon my skin, and defiled my horn in the dust.
  1. 하느님께서는 나를 악당에게 넘기시고 마침내 악인의 손에 내맡기셨구나.
  2. 평안을 누리던 나를 박살내시려고 덜미를 잡고 마구 치시는구나. 나를 과녁으로 삼아 세우시고
  3. 사방에서 쏘아대시는구나. 눈 하나 깜짝하지 않고, 나의 창자를 터뜨리시고 쓸개를 땅에 마구 쏟으시다니......
  4. 갈기갈기 찢고 또 찢으려고 군인처럼 달려드시네.
  5. 맨살에 삼베옷을 걸친 이 몸, 나의 위세는 땅에 떨어지고 말았구나.
  1. My face is foul with weeping, and on my eyelids is the shadow of death;
  2. Not for any injustice in mine hands: also my prayer is pure.
  3. O earth, cover not thou my blood, and let my cry have no place.
  4. Also now, behold, my witness is in heaven, and my record is on high.
  5. My friends scorn me: but mine eye poureth out tears unto God.
  1. 눈물로 범벅이 된 이 얼굴, 절망의 그림자가 아른거리는 이 눈썹,
  2. 이 손은 폭행을 모르고 나의 기도는 순수하련만......
  3. 땅이여, 나의 피를 덮지 말아다오. 나의 부르짖는 소리가 쉴 곳을 마련하지 말려무나.
  4. 보아라, 지금 나의 증인은 하늘에 있다! 나의 보증인은 저 높은 데 있다.
  5. 내가 하느님께 눈물을 쏟을 때 나의 마음을 대변할 자여,
  1. O that one might plead for a man with God, as a man pleadeth for his neighbour!
  2. When a few years are come, then I shall go the way whence I shall not return.
  1. 이웃과 이웃의 시비를 가리듯이 사람과 하느님 사이를 판가름하여 다오.
  2. 그래 봐야, 몇 해 되지 않아 나는 가버리리라. 다시 돌아오지 못할 그 길로!
 
 
  1. My breath is corrupt, my days are extinct, the graves are ready for me.
  2. Are there not mockers with me? and doth not mine eye continue in their provocation?
  3. Lay down now, put me in a surety with thee; who is he that will strike hands with me?
  4. For thou hast hid their heart from understanding: therefore shalt thou not exalt them.
  5. He that speaketh flattery to his friends, even the eyes of his children shall fail.
  1. 나 숨이 꺼져서 수명은 다하고 황천길만 남았는데
  2. 조롱꾼이 밀려와 빈정거리니 그 소리에 눈앞이 캄캄해지는구나.
  3. 나의 보증을 서줄 이, 당신밖에 없사옵니다. 나의 손을 잡아줄 이, 또 어디 있겠습니까?
  4. 그들의 마음을 아둔하게 만드시어 내 앞에서 우쭐거리지 못하게 하여주소서.
  5. 제 자식은 못 먹어 눈이 멀어가는데 분깃을 받아가라고 친구들을 청한다더라고
  1. He hath made me also a byword of the people; and aforetime I was as a tabret.
  2. Mine eye also is dim by reason of sorrow, and all my members are as a shadow.
  3. Upright men shall be astonied at this, and the innocent shall stir up himself against the hypocrite.
  4. The righteous also shall hold on his way, and he that hath clean hands shall be stronger and stronger.
  5. But as for you all, do ye return, and come now: for I cannot find one wise man among you.
  1. 사람들은 나를 두고 쑥덕공론이요, 내 얼굴에 침을 뱉네.
  2. 슬픔에 절어 흐려진 나의 눈, 그림자처럼 흐느적거리는 나의 몰골이여,
  3. 정직한 사람은 너를 보고 놀라며 순진한 사람은 그 불경스러움을 향하여 격분하겠구나.
  4. 그러나 의인은 가던 길을 꿋꿋이 가고 손이 깨끗한 이는 차츰 힘이 솟아나는 법,
  5. 더 할 말이 있거든, 어서들 와서 말해 보게. 자네들 가운데 과연 슬기를 깨친 자 있을는지.
  1. My days are past, my purposes are broken off, even the thoughts of my heart.
  2. They change the night into day: the light is short because of darkness.
  3. If I wait, the grave is mine house: I have made my bed in the darkness.
  4. I have said to corruption, Thou art my father: to the worm, Thou art my mother, and my sister.
  5. And where is now my hope? as for my hope, who shall see it?
  1. 나의 생애는 끝났고 나의 계획은 물거품이 되었으며 실낱 같은 희망마저 끊기었네.
  2. 밤은 낮으로 바뀌고 빛이 어둠을 밀어낸다지만,
  3. 저승에 집터를 마련하고 어둠 속에 자리를 까는 일밖에 나 무엇을 더 바라겠는가?
  4. 구덩이를 향하여 "아버지!" 하고 구더기를 향하여 "어머니!", "누이!" 하고 부를 몸인데,
  5. 희망이 어디 있으며 기쁨이 어디 있겠는가?
  1. They shall go down to the bars of the pit, when our rest together is in the dust.
  1. 어차피 나와 함께 저승으로 내려갈 수 없는 희망이요, 나와 함께 땅 속에 들어갈 수 없는 기쁨이 아닌가.
 
  빌닷의 두번째 충고(18:1-18:21)    
 
  1. Then answered Bildad the Shuhite, and said,
  2. How long will it be ere ye make an end of words? mark, and afterwards we will speak.
  3. Wherefore are we counted as beasts, and reputed vile in your sight?
  4. He teareth himself in his anger: shall the earth be forsaken for thee? and shall the rock be removed out of his place?
  5. Yea, the light of the wicked shall be put out, and the spark of his fire shall not shine.
  1. 수아 사람 빌닷이 말을 받았다.
  2. 당신들은 언제까지 입을 다물고 있을 참이오? 잘 생각하여 말 좀 해줍시다.
  3. 자네에게 우리가 짐승으로 보이는가? 자네 눈에는 우리가 부정한 동물로 보이는가?
  4. 자네야말로 홧김에 제 몸을 물어뜯는 짐승이 아닌가? 자네는 땅을 허허벌판으로 만들고 바위를 제자리에서 밀어내기라도 할 셈인가?
  5. 악인의 빛은 결국 꺼지고 그의 불꽃은 빛을 잃고 마는 것,
  1. The light shall be dark in his tabernacle, and his candle shall be put out with him.
  2. The steps of his strength shall be straitened, and his own counsel shall cast him down.
  3. For he is cast into a net by his own feet, and he walketh upon a snare.
  4. The gin shall take him by the heel, and the robber shall prevail against him.
  5. The snare is laid for him in the ground, and a trap for him in the way.
  1. 그의 장막 안 빛은 사라지고 그를 비추던 등잔불은 꺼지고 마는 것,
  2. 그의 힘찬 발걸음은 주춤거리다가 마침내 자기 꾀에 걸려 넘어지고 마네.
  3. 제 발로 올가미에 걸려들고 스스로 함정에 걸어 들어가
  4. 발목이 올가미에 걸려 노끈에 온몸이 묶일 운명이라.
  5. 땅에 묻힌 그물이 그를 기다리고 있으며 길목에 숨겨진 올가미가 그를 노리고 있네.
  1. Terrors shall make him afraid on every side, and shall drive him to his feet.
  2. His strength shall be hungerbitten, and destruction shall be ready at his side.
  3. It shall devour the strength of his skin: even the firstborn of death shall devour his strength.
  4. His confidence shall be rooted out of his tabernacle, and it shall bring him to the king of terrors.
  5. It shall dwell in his tabernacle, because it is none of his: brimstone shall be scattered upon his habitation.
  1. 갑자기 사면에서 두려움이 몰아쳐 도망칠 틈도 없이 그를 덮쳐 누르네.
  2. 정력이 소멸되어 파멸의 손이 이미 옆구리를 건드리고 있는 몸,
  3. 살갗은 병으로 시들고 죽을 병이 사지를 파먹는 몸,
  4. 마음놓고 안식하던 장막에서 붙잡혀 죽음의 대왕 앞으로 끌려 나오니,
  5. 의인이 그의 장막에서 살려고 그 집에 유황을 뿌리네.
  1. His roots shall be dried up beneath, and above shall his branch be cut off.
  2. His remembrance shall perish from the earth, and he shall have no name in the street.
  3. He shall be driven from light into darkness, and chased out of the world.
  4. He shall neither have son nor nephew among his people, nor any remaining in his dwellings.
  5. They that come after him shall be astonied at his day, as they that went before were affrighted.
  1. 밑으로 뻗은 그의 뿌리는 마르고 위로 뻗은 그의 가지는 시들며
  2. 땅 위에는 그를 아는 자 하나 없고 오가는 행인 중 그 누구도 그의 이름을 모르게 되리니
  3. 환한 데서 어두운 데로 밀려나 땅에서 아주 쫓겨나리라.
  4. 겨레 가운데 그의 핏줄은 하나도 없고 그의 옛집에 살아 남은 후손도 없으리니
  5. 뒷집 사람이 그의 마지막을 보고 놀라고 앞집 사람도 두려워 떨리라.
  1. Surely such are the dwellings of the wicked, and this is the place of him that knoweth not God.
  1. 악인의 집은 이렇듯이 비참하고 하느님을 모르는 자의 거처는 이렇게 되고 마는 법일세.
 
  욥의 답변(19:1-19:29)    
 
  1. Then Job answered and said,
  2. How long will ye vex my soul, and break me in pieces with words?
  3. These ten times have ye reproached me: ye are not ashamed that ye make yourselves strange to me.
  4. And be it indeed that I have erred, mine error remaineth with myself.
  5. If indeed ye will magnify yourselves against me, and plead against me my reproach:
  1. 욥이 말을 받았다.
  2. 자네들은 언제까지 나를 괴롭히려는가? 언제까지 나를 말로 윽박지르려는가?
  3. 이렇듯이 거듭거듭 모욕하고 들볶으면서 미안하지도 않은가?
  4. 내가 정말 무슨 실수라도 했단 말인가? 그 허물이 아직도 가시지 않았다는 말인가?
  5. 자네들은 참으로 기세등등하여 나의 잘못을 들춰내려고 하지만,
  1. Know now that God hath overthrown me, and hath compassed me with his net.
  2. Behold, I cry out of wrong, but I am not heard: I cry aloud, but there is no judgment.
  3. He hath fenced up my way that I cannot pass, and he hath set darkness in my paths.
  4. He hath stripped me of my glory, and taken the crown from my head.
  5. He hath destroyed me on every side, and I am gone: and mine hope hath he removed like a tree.
  1. 모르겠는가? 나를 이렇게 억누르는 이가 하느님이시라는 것을! 나를 덮어씌운 것이 그의 그물이라는 것을!
  2. 억울하다고 소리쳐도 아무 대답이 없고 호소해 보아도 시비를 가릴 법이 없네.
  3. 넘을 수 없는 담을 쌓아 내 앞을 막는 이도 그요, 어둠으로 나의 앞길을 가리는 이도 그가 아니신가?
  4. 나에게서 명예를 빼앗은 이도 그요, 면류관을 벗긴 이도 그가 아니신가?
  5. 나는 그에게 사방으로 얻어맞아 이제는 영영 가버릴 몸, 그가 나무 뿌리를 뽑듯이 나의 희망을 뽑아버리셨네.
  1. He hath also kindled his wrath against me, and he counteth me unto him as one of his enemies.
  2. His troops come together, and raise up their way against me, and encamp round about my tabernacle.
  3. He hath put my brethren far from me, and mine acquaintance are verily estranged from me.
  4. My kinsfolk have failed, and my familiar friends have forgotten me.
  5. They that dwell in mine house, and my maids, count me for a stranger: I am an alien in their sight.
  1. 눈에 불을 켜고 달려드시는 품이 나를 적수로 여기시는 것이 아닐까?
  2. 그가 군대를 몰고 와서 진격로를 닦고 나의 천막을 포위하셨네.
  3. 동기들마저 떠나가고 친지들마저 외면하는 이 신세,
  4. 친척과 벗들은 모르는 체하고 나의 집 식객마저 나를 잊었네.
  5. 계집종들도 나를 낯선 사람으로 대접하니 내가 그들에게 뜨내기로 보이더란 말인가?
  1. I called my servant, and he gave me no answer; I intreated him with my mouth.
  2. My breath is strange to my wife, though I intreated for the children's sake of mine own body.
  3. Yea, young children despised me; I arose, and they spake against me.
  4. All my inward friends abhorred me: and they whom I loved are turned against me.
  5. My bone cleaveth to my skin and to my flesh, and I am escaped with the skin of my teeth.
  1. 종들을 불러보아야 대답도 하지 않으니 이 입으로 애걸해야 할 판일세.
  2. 아내마저 나의 입김을 싫어하고 나의 냄새에 친형제조차 코를 막네.
  3. 젖비린내 나는 것들에게도 하잘것없는 존재로 보여 몸을 일으키려고만 해도 놀려댄다네.
  4. 흉허물 없던 벗들도 싫어하고 내가 아끼던 사람마저 발길을 끊더군.
  5. 뼈에 가죽만 남아 잇몸으로 겨우 연명하는 이 신세,
  1. Have pity upon me, have pity upon me, O ye my friends; for the hand of God hath touched me.
  2. Why do ye persecute me as God, and are not satisfied with my flesh?
  3. Oh that my words were now written! oh that they were printed in a book!
  4. That they were graven with an iron pen and lead in the rock for ever!
  5. For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth:
  1. 벗들이여, 불쌍하고 가련하지 아니한가? 하느님의 손이 나를 치셨는데
  2. 어찌하여 자네들마저 하느님처럼 나를 구박하는가? 그만큼 헐뜯었으면 직성이 풀릴 만도 하지 않은가?
  3. 아, 누가 있어 나의 말을 기록해 두랴? 누가 있어 구리판에 새겨두랴?
  4. 쇠나 놋정으로 바위에 새겨 길이길이 보존해 주랴?
  5. 나는 믿는다, 나의 변호인이 살아 있음을! 나의 후견인이 마침내 땅 위에 나타나리라.
  1. And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God:
  2. Whom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not another; though my reins be consumed within me.
  3. But ye should say, Why persecute we him, seeing the root of the matter is found in me?
  4. Be ye afraid of the sword: for wrath bringeth the punishments of the sword, that ye may know there is a judgment.
  1. 나의 살갗이 뭉그러져 이 살이 질크러진 후에라도
  2. 나는 하느님을 뵙고야 말리라. 나는 기어이 이 두 눈으로 뵙고야 말리라. 내 쪽으로 돌아서신 그를 뵙고야 말리라. 그러나 젖먹던 힘마저 다 빠지고 말았구나.
  3. 자네들은 어떻게든지 나를 몰아세울 작정이군. 결국 문제는 나에게 있다는 것이겠지.
  4. 그러나 칼에 맞지 않기 위하여 조심해야 할 것은 오히려 자네들일지도 모르네. 칼에 맞을 죄가 어디에 따로 있다던가? 시비곡직을 가리는 재판이 끝내 없겠는가?
