- But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.
- Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.
- Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.
- For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night.
- But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.

- 그러나 교우 여러분, 여러분은 암흑 속에서 살고 있지 않기 때문에 여러분에게는 그 날이 도둑처럼 덮치지는 않을 것입니다.
- 여러분은 모두 빛의 자녀이며 대낮의 자녀입니다. 우리는 밤이나 어둠에 속한 사람이 아닙니다.
- 그러므로 우리는 다른 사람들처럼 잠자고 있을 것이 아니라 정신을 똑바로 차리고 깨어 있읍시다.
- 잠자는 사람들은 밤에 자고 술마시는 사람들도 밤에 마시고 취합니다.
- 그러나 우리는 대낮에 속한 사람이므로 정신을 똑바로 차리고 믿음과 사랑으로 가슴에 무장을 하고 구원의 희망으로 투구를 씁시다.

- For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,
- Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.
- Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.
- And we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you;
- And to esteem them very highly in love for their work's sake. And be at peace among yourselves.

- 하느님께서는 우리에게 진노를 내리시기로 작정하신 것이 아니라 우리 주 예수 그리스도를 통해서 구원을 주시기로 작정하셨습니다.
- 그리스도께서 우리가 살아 있든지 죽어 있든지 당신과 함께 살 수 있게 하시려고 우리를 위해서 죽으셨습니다.
- 그러므로 여러분은 이미 하고 있는 그대로 서로 격려하고 서로 도와주십시오.
- 교우 여러분, 여러분에게 당부합니다. 여러분과 함께 있으면서 수고하고, 주님의 명령을 받들어 여러분을 지도하고 훈계하는 사람들을 존경하십시오.
- 그들이 하는 일을 생각해서 그들을 사랑하고 극진히 공경하십시오. 그리고 서로 화평하게 지내십시오.

- Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men.
- See that none render evil for evil unto any man; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men.
- Rejoice evermore.
- Pray without ceasing.
- In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

- 교우 여러분, 여러분에게 권고합니다. 게으른 사람들을 훈계하고 소심한 사람들을 격려하며 약한 사람들을 붙들어주고 모든 사람을 인내로써 대하십시오.
- 여러분 중에는 악을 악으로 갚는 사람이 하나도 없도록 하고, 언제나 서로 남에게 선을 행하도록 힘쓰십시오. 또 모든 사람에게 선을 행하십시오.
- 항상 기뻐하십시오.
- 늘 기도하십시오.
- 어떤 처지에서든지 감사하십시오. 이것이 그리스도 예수를 통해서 여러분에게 보여주신 하느님의 뜻입니다.

- Quench not the Spirit.
- Despise not prophesyings.
- Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.
- Abstain from all appearance of evil.
- And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

- 성령의 불을 끄지 말고
- 성령의 감동을 받아 전하는 말을 멸시하지 마십시오.
- 모든 것을 시험해 보고 좋은 것을 꼭 붙드십시오.
- 그리고 악한 일은 어떤 종류이든지 멀리하십시오.
- 평화의 하느님께서 여러분을 온전히 거룩한 사람으로 만들어주시기를 빕니다. 또 여러분의 심령과 영혼과 육체를 우리 주 예수 그리스도께서 다시 오시는 날까지 완전하고 흠없게 지켜주시기를 빕니다.

- Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.
- Brethren, pray for us.
- Greet all the brethren with an holy kiss.
- I charge you by the Lord that this epistle be read unto all the holy brethren.
- The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.
