예레미야 11:1-12:17

 예레미야는 유다에게 임하게 된 형벌의 원인이 시내 산에서 맺은 언약을 어겼기 때문이라고 지적하여 백성들로부터 목숨의 위협을 받게 되었다. 이에 기도로 이 사실을 고하며 악한 백성들의 형통함을 항변한 예레미야에게 하나님께서는 죄의 형벌로 유다를 버리신 후 다시 회복시키실 것임을 말씀하셨다.
  
  언약에 근거한 형벌(11:1-11:17)    
 
  1. The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD saying,
  2. Hear ye the words of this covenant, and speak unto the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem;
  3. And say thou unto them, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel; Cursed be the man that obeyeth not the words of this covenant,
  4. Which I commanded your fathers in the day that I brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, from the iron furnace, saying, Obey my voice, and do them, according to all which I command you: so shall ye be my people, and I will be your God:
  5. That I may perform the oath which I have sworn unto your fathers, to give them a land flowing with milk and honey, as it is this day. Then answered I, and said, So be it, O LORD.
  1. 야훼께서 나 예레미야에게 이런 말씀을 내리셨다.
  2. "너는 이 계약 조문을 귀담아듣고 유다 사람들과 예루살렘 주민들에게 일러주어라.
  3. '이스라엘의 하느님 야훼의 말씀이다.' 하고 이렇게 일러주어라. '이 계약 조문을 지키지 않는 사람은 저주를 받으리라.
  4. 이 계약은 쇠를 녹이는 가마 같은 이집트에서 너희 조상을 건져내 올 때 지키라고 명한 것이다. 나의 말을 들어 시키는 대로 다 하면 너희는 나의 백성이 되고 나는 너희의 하느님이 되리라고 했던 그 계약이다.
  5. 그리고 내가 너희 조상들에게 젖과 꿀이 흐르는 이 땅을 주겠다고 한 맹세를 지켜 이 날에 이른 것이다.'" 나는 "야훼여, 참으로 그렇습니다." 하고 대답하였다.
  1. Then the LORD said unto me, Proclaim all these words in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, saying, Hear ye the words of this covenant, and do them.
  2. For I earnestly protested unto your fathers in the day that I brought them up out of the land of Egypt, even unto this day, rising early and protesting, saying, Obey my voice.
  3. Yet they obeyed not, nor inclined their ear, but walked every one in the imagination of their evil heart: therefore I will bring upon them all the words of this covenant, which I commanded them to do: but they did them not.
  4. And the LORD said unto me, A conspiracy is found among the men of Judah, and among the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
  5. They are turned back to the iniquities of their forefathers, which refused to hear my words; and they went after other gods to serve them: the house of Israel and the house of Judah have broken my covenant which I made with their fathers.
  1. 그러자 야훼께서 나에게 이르셨다. "이 모든 말을 유다 성읍들과 예루살렘 거리에 가서 외쳐라. '이 계약 조문을 귀담아듣고 그대로 지켜라.
  2. 내가 너희 조상들을 이집트에서 데리고 나오던 날 엄히 일러주었고, 그 후로도 이 날까지 내 말을 들으라고 거듭하여 엄히 일러주었건만,
  3. 그들은 귀를 기울여 내 말을 들으려 하지 않았고 악한 생각에 이끌려 멋대로 살아왔다. 내가 지키라고 한 이 계약 조문들을 지키지 않았다. 그래서 나는 이 계약 조문에 있는 벌을 그대로 다 내린 것이다.'"
  4. 야훼께서 나에게 또 이르셨다. "유다 지방민과 예루살렘 시민들이 나에게 반역하려는 음모를 꾸미고 있다.
  5. 앞서간 조상들도 끝내 내 말을 듣지 않더니, 후손들도 그 잘못을 되풀이하고 있다. 다른 신들을 따라다니며 섬겼다. 내가 이스라엘과 유다 가문의 조상들과 맺은 계약을 그 후손이라는 것들이 깨뜨리고 또 깨뜨렸다.
  1. Therefore thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will bring evil upon them, which they shall not be able to escape; and though they shall cry unto me, I will not hearken unto them.
  2. Then shall the cities of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem go, and cry unto the gods unto whom they offer incense: but they shall not save them at all in the time of their trouble.
  3. For according to the number of thy cities were thy gods, O Judah; and according to the number of the streets of Jerusalem have ye set up altars to that shameful thing, even altars to burn incense unto Baal.
  4. Therefore pray not thou for this people, neither lift up a cry or prayer for them: for I will not hear them in the time that they cry unto me for their trouble.
  5. What hath my beloved to do in mine house, seeing she hath wrought lewdness with many, and the holy flesh is passed from thee? when thou doest evil, then thou rejoicest.
  1. 그래서 나 야훼는 이렇게 선언한다. 나 이제 이 백성에게 앙화를 내릴 터인데 그 앙화는 면할 길이 없다. 아무리 호소하여도 나는 들어주지 않으리라.
  2. 유다 성읍들에 사는 사람들과 예루살렘 시민들은 저희가 분향하며 받들던 신들에게 가서 호소하겠지만, 그 신들은 재앙을 당하고 있는 이 백성을 전혀 구해 주지 못할 것이다.
  3. 유다 사람들아, 너희가 위하는 신은 성읍의 수만큼이나 많고, 바알의 산당은 예루살렘의 거리만큼이나 많구나.
  4. 이런 백성을 너그럽게 보아달라고 비느냐? 용서해 달라고 울며불며 기도하지 마라. 재앙을 만나 아무리 부르짖어도 나는 들어주지 않으리라.
  5. 나의 임이 추잡하게도 놀아나더니 내 집에 와서 어쩌자는 것인가? 자원제나 바치고 제물 고기나 먹는다고 해서 죄를 벗을 것도 아닌데, 죄없다고 해줄 것도 아닌데,
  1. The LORD called thy name, A green olive tree, fair, and of goodly fruit: with the noise of a great tumult he hath kindled fire upon it, and the branches of it are broken.
  2. For the LORD of hosts, that planted thee, hath pronounced evil against thee, for the evil of the house of Israel and of the house of Judah, which they have done against themselves to provoke me to anger in offering incense unto Baal.
  1. '푸르고 싱싱한 올리브 나무'라고 한때 너를 불러주었지만, 이제 나는 벼락을 내려 너의 잎사귀를 사르고 가지들을 부러뜨리리라.
  2. 이스라엘 가문과 유다 가문을 나무처럼 심었던 나 만군의 야훼가 이제 재앙을 내릴 것을 선포한다. 바알에게 분향하는 등의 못할 짓을 하여 내 속을 썩여주다가 너희는 이런 앙화를 받게 된 것이다."
 
  예레미야 살해 음모(11:18-11:23)    
 
  1. And the LORD hath given me knowledge of it, and I know it: then thou shewedst me their doings.
  2. But I was like a lamb or an ox that is brought to the slaughter; and I knew not that they had devised devices against me, saying, Let us destroy the tree with the fruit thereof, and let us cut him off from the land of the living, that his name may be no more remembered.
  3. But, O LORD of hosts, that judgest righteously, that triest the reins and the heart, let me see thy vengeance on them: for unto thee have I revealed my cause.
  4. Therefore thus saith the LORD of the men of Anathoth, that seek thy life, saying, Prophesy not in the name of the LORD, that thou die not by our hand:
  5. Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts, Behold, I will punish them: the young men shall die by the sword; their sons and their daughters shall die by famine:
  1. 사람들이 나를 해치려고 하는 것을 야훼께서 알려주셔서, 나는 그 일을 알게 되었다.
  2. 죽을 자리에 끌려가면서도 아무것도 모르는 어린 양처럼, 나는 사람들이 나를 해치려고 하는 줄을 몰랐었다. "나무가 싱싱할 때 찍어버리자. 인간 세상에서 없애버리자. 이름조차 남지 못하게 만들자." 하며 음모를 꾸몄지만, 도무지 나는 알지 못하였다.
  3. "만군의 야훼여, 사람의 뱃속과 심장을 달아보시는 공정한 재판관이시여! 하느님께 호소합니다. 이 백성에게 원수를 갚아주십시오. 그것을 이 눈으로 보아야겠습니다."
  4. "아나돗 사람들이 너더러 저희 손에 죽지 않으려거든 야훼의 이름을 들어 예언하지 말라고 하느냐? 그러면서 너의 목숨을 노리고 있느냐? 그렇다면, 나 야훼는 이렇게 선언한다.
  5. 내가 이제 그들을 이렇게 벌하리라. 장정들은 칼에 맞아 죽고, 아들딸들은 굶어 죽으리라.
  1. And there shall be no remnant of them: for I will bring evil upon the men of Anathoth, even the year of their visitation.
  1. 내가 아나돗 사람들에게 재앙을 내려 벌하는 날, 살아 남을 자는 하나도 없을 것이다."
 
  항변과 답변(12:1-12:17)    
 
  1. Righteous art thou, O LORD, when I plead with thee: yet let me talk with thee of thy judgments: Wherefore doth the way of the wicked prosper? wherefore are all they happy that deal very treacherously?
  2. Thou hast planted them, yea, they have taken root: they grow, yea, they bring forth fruit: thou art near in their mouth, and far from their reins.
  3. But thou, O LORD, knowest me: thou hast seen me, and tried mine heart toward thee: pull them out like sheep for the slaughter, and prepare them for the day of slaughter.
  4. How long shall the land mourn, and the herbs of every field wither, for the wickedness of them that dwell therein? the beasts are consumed, and the birds; because they said, He shall not see our last end.
  5. If thou hast run with the footmen, and they have wearied thee, then how canst thou contend with horses? and if in the land of peace, wherein thou trustedst, they wearied thee, then how wilt thou do in the swelling of Jordan?
  1. "야훼님, 제가 아무리 시비를 걸어도 그 때마다 옳은 것은 하느님이셨기에 법 문제를 하나 여쭙겠습니다. 어찌하여 나쁜 자들이 만사에 성공합니까? 사기밖에 칠 줄 모르는 자들이 잘되기만 합니까?
  2. 하느님께서는 그런 자들을 나무처럼 심어 뿌리를 박고 자라서 열매를 맺게 하시는군요. 그런 자들은 말로는 하느님과 가까운 체하면서, 속으로는 멀리 떠나가는 것들인데 말입니다.
  3. 야훼여, 주께서는 제 속을 환히 들여다보십니다. 제 마음이 주께 있다는 것을 시험하여 보아서 아시지 않습니까? 저것들을 양처럼 끌어다 죽여버리십시오. 갈라내었다가 그 날 당장 죽여버리십시오.
  4. 언제까지 가뭄 든 이 땅을 내버려두시렵니까? 들풀이 다 마르게 내버려두시렵니까? 이 땅에 사는 사람의 잘못으로 짐승이나 새가 죽어 없어져서야 되겠습니까? 어떤 일을 하여도 주께서 보지 못하신다고 저들은 떠들어대고 있습니다."
  5. "네가 사람과 달리기를 하다가 지쳐버린다면, 어떻게 말과 달리기를 하겠느냐? 편안한 곳에서나 마음놓고 살 수 있다면 요르단 강 가 깊은 숲 속에서는 어떻게 살겠느냐?
  1. For even thy brethren, and the house of thy father, even they have dealt treacherously with thee; yea, they have called a multitude after thee: believe them not, though they speak fair words unto thee.
  2. I have forsaken mine house, I have left mine heritage; I have given the dearly beloved of my soul into the hand of her enemies.
  3. Mine heritage is unto me as a lion in the forest; it crieth out against me: therefore have I hated it.
  4. Mine heritage is unto me as a speckled bird, the birds round about are against her; come ye, assemble all the beasts of the field, come to devour.
  5. Many pastors have destroyed my vineyard, they have trodden my portion under foot, they have made my pleasant portion a desolate wilderness.
  1. 너의 집 식구, 너의 동기들이 너를 헐뜯으며 배신하지 않았느냐? 그러니 그들이 정답게 말을 걸어오더라도 믿지 마라.
  2. 나는 나의 백성을 버렸다. 내 것으로 삼았던 이 백성을 물리쳤다. 내가 진정 귀여워하던 백성을 원수들의 손에 넘겨주었다.
  3. 내 것으로 삼았더니 이 백성은 숲에 있는 사자처럼 나에게 달려들었다. 으르렁거리며 달려들었다. 그래서 나는 그것들을 나의 원수로 돌렸다.
  4. 내 것으로 삼았던 이 백성, 매들에게 둘러싸인 알록달록한 새와 같다. 들짐승들은 다 모여오너라. 몰려와서 실컷 먹어라.
  5. 목자들이 무리지어 밀려와서 너의 포도밭을 망가뜨리고 밭곡식을 짓밟았다. 내가 소중히 여기던 이 밭을 허허벌판으로 만들어놓았다.
  1. They have made it desolate, and being desolate it mourneth unto me; the whole land is made desolate, because no man layeth it to heart.
  2. The spoilers are come upon all high places through the wilderness: for the sword of the LORD shall devour from the one end of the land even to the other end of the land: no flesh shall have peace.
  3. They have sown wheat, but shall reap thorns: they have put themselves to pain, but shall not profit: and they shall be ashamed of your revenues because of the fierce anger of the LORD.
  4. Thus saith the LORD against all mine evil neighbours, that touch the inheritance which I have caused my people Israel to inherit; Behold, I will pluck them out of their land, and pluck out the house of Judah from among them.
  5. And it shall come to pass, after that I have plucked them out I will return, and have compassion on them, and will bring them again, every man to his heritage, and every man to his land.
  1. 보기에도 삭막한 허허벌판으로 만들어놓았다. 그래서 온 땅이 쑥밭이 되었는데 걱정하는 사람 하나 없구나.
  2. 사막의 고원 지대를 떠돌아다니던 도둑들이 쳐들어왔다. 내가 싸움을 일으킨 것이다. 땅 끝에서 땅 끝까지 휩쓸어 살아 움직이는 것은 모두 떨고 있다.
  3. 내 백성이 밀을 심었으나 거두려고 보니 가시풀뿐. 공연히 애만 쓴 꼴이 되었다. 내가 분노를 터뜨리는 바람에 소출을 거두지 못하고 어이없는 꼴을 당하였다.
  4. 내 백성 이스라엘에게 유산으로 준 소유지를 침범한 이웃 나라 몹쓸 민족들에게 야훼는 할 말이 있다. 나는 그 민족들을 정든 고향에서 내쫓고 그 가운데서 유다 가문을 빼내 오리라.
  5. 그러나 그 민족들을 내쫓았다가, 다시 가엾게 여겨 각기 제 고장, 제 땅으로 돌아가 살게 하리라.
  1. And it shall come to pass, if they will diligently learn the ways of my people, to swear by my name, The LORD liveth; as they taught my people to swear by Baal; then shall they be built in the midst of my people.
  2. But if they will not obey, I will utterly pluck up and destroy that nation, saith the LORD.
  1. 그 백성들이 내 백성에게 바알의 이름을 불러 맹세하도록 가르쳤지만, 이제는 도리어 내 백성에게서 도를 배워 익혀 '야훼께서 살아 계신다.' 하며 내 이름을 불러 맹세하게 되리라. 그렇게 되면 그들도 내 백성과 함께 어울려 잘살게 되리라.
  2. 그러나 나의 말을 듣지 않으면, 그 민족들을 뿌리뽑아 아주 없애버리리라. 이는 내 말이라, 어김이 없다."
