- Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the commandment of God our Saviour, and Lord Jesus Christ, which is our hope;
- Unto Timothy, my own son in the faith: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God our Father and Jesus Christ our Lord.
- As I besought thee to abide still at Ephesus, when I went into Macedonia, that thou mightest charge some that they teach no other doctrine,
- Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do.
- Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned:

- 우리의 구세주이신 하느님과 우리의 희망이신 그리스도 예수의 명령으로 그리스도 예수의 사도가 된 나 바울로가
- 참된 믿음의 아들 디모테오에게 이 편지를 씁니다. 하느님 아버지와 우리 주 그리스도 예수께서 은총과 자비와 평화를 그대에게 내려주시기를 빕니다.
- 내가 마케도니아로 떠날 때에 간곡히 부탁한 대로 그대는 에페소에 머물러 있으시오. 거기에는 그릇된 교리를 가르치거나
- 꾸며낸 이야기나 끝없는 족보 이야기에 정신이 팔린 사람들이 더러 있으니 그런 일을 못하게 하시오. 그런 것들은 쓸데없는 논쟁이나 일으킬 뿐이고 믿음을 통해서 구원을 얻게 해주시는 하느님의 계획에는 아무런 도움도 되지 못합니다.
- 내가 그런 일을 금하는 목적은 깨끗한 마음과 맑은 양심과 순수한 믿음에서 우러나오는 사랑을 불러일으키자는 것입니다.

- From which some having swerved have turned aside unto vain jangling;
- Desiring to be teachers of the law; understanding neither what they say, nor whereof they affirm.
- But we know that the law is good, if a man use it lawfully;
- Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers,
- For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine;

- 그런데 어떤 사람들은 이 목적에서 벗어나 길을 잃고 쓸데없는 토론만 일삼고 있습니다.
- 그들은 율법교사로 자처하지만 사실은 자기들이 무엇을 말하는지 무엇을 주장하는지조차 알지 못하고 있습니다.
- 우리가 아는 대로 율법은 정당하게 다루어지기만 한다면 좋은 것입니다.
- 여기서 알아두어야 할 것은 율법이 올바른 사람들을 위해서 제정된 것이 아니라는 것입니다. 하느님의 율법을 어기는 자와 순종하지 않는 자, 불경건한 자와 하느님을 떠난 죄인, 신성을 모독하는 자와 거룩한 것을 속되게 하는 자, 아비나 어미를 죽인 자와 사람을 죽인 자,
- 음행하는 자와 남색하는 자, 인신매매를 하는 자와 거짓말을 하는 자, 위증하는 자와 그 밖에 건전한 교설에 어긋나는 짓을 하는 자들을 다스리기 위해서 율법이 있는 것입니다.

- According to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust.
- And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who hath enabled me, for that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry;
- Who was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: but I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief.
- And the grace of our Lord was exceeding abundant with faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.
- This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.

- 건전한 교설이란 복되신 하느님의 영광을 드러내는 그 복음에 근거를 둔 것입니다. 나는 이 복음을 전하는 임무를 맡은 사람입니다.
- 내가 맡은 일을 감당할 수 있도록 힘을 주신 우리 주 그리스도 예수께 나는 감사합니다. 주께서 나를 성실한 사람으로 인정하셔서 당신을 섬기는 직분을 나에게 맡겨주신 것입니다.
- 내가 전에는 그리스도를 모독하고 박해하고 학대하던 자였습니다. 그러나 그것은 내가 믿지 않을 때에 모르고 한 일이었기 때문에 하느님께서 나를 자비롭게 대해 주셨습니다.
- 이렇게 우리 주님께서 나에게 은총을 차고 넘치게 베푸셨고, 그리스도 예수를 믿는 자들이 가지는 믿음과 사랑을 나에게 풍성하게 주셨습니다.
- 그리스도 예수께서 죄인들을 구원하시려고 이 세상에 오셨다는 말은 틀림없는 것이고 누구나 받아들일 만한 사실입니다. 나는 죄인들 중에서 가장 큰 죄인입니다.

- Howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might shew forth all longsuffering, for a pattern to them which should hereafter believe on him to life everlasting.
- Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen.
- This charge I commit unto thee, son Timothy, according to the prophecies which went before on thee, that thou by them mightest war a good warfare;
- Holding faith, and a good conscience; which some having put away concerning faith have made shipwreck:
- Of whom is Hymenaeus and Alexander; whom I have delivered unto Satan, that they may learn not to blaspheme.

- 그런데도 하느님께서는 이와 같은 나에게 자비를 베풀어주셨습니다. 그리스도 예수께서는 앞으로 당신을 믿고 영원한 생명을 얻으려는 사람들에게 나를 본보기로 보여주시려고 먼저 나에게 한량없는 관용을 베푸신 것입니다.
- 영원한 왕이시며 오직 한 분뿐이시고 눈으로 볼 수 없는 불멸의 하느님께서 영원무궁토록 영예와 영광을 받으시기를 빕니다. 아멘.
- 내 사랑하는 디모테오, 나는 전에 그대에게 선포된 예언의 말씀들을 회상하면서 명령합니다. 그대는 그 예언의 말씀대로 훌륭한 싸움을 싸우시오.
- 믿음과 맑은 양심을 가지고 싸워야 합니다. 어떤 사람들은 양심을 저버렸기 때문에 그들의 믿음은 파선을 당했습니다.
- 히메내오와 알렉산드로가 바로 그런 사람들이어서 나는 그들을 사탄에게 내어주어 그들이 다시는 하느님을 모독하지 않도록 훈련을 받게 하였습니다.
