- Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, according to the promise of life which is in Christ Jesus,
- To Timothy, my dearly beloved son: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.
- I thank God, whom I serve from my forefathers with pure conscience, that without ceasing I have remembrance of thee in my prayers night and day;
- Greatly desiring to see thee, being mindful of thy tears, that I may be filled with joy;
- When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also.

- 하느님의 뜻으로 그리스도 예수의 사도가 된 나 바울로는
- 아들같이 사랑하는 디모테오에게 이 편지를 씁니다. 하느님께서는 그리스도 예수와 연합하는 자에게 생명을 주시기로 약속하셨고 그 약속을 선포하는 사명을 나에게 맡기셨습니다. 하느님 아버지와 우리 주 그리스도 예수께서 은총과 자비와 평화를 그대에게 내려주시기를 빕니다.
- 나는 밤낮으로 기도할 때마다 그대를 기억하면서 하느님께 감사드립니다. 나는 내 조상들과 마찬가지로 깨끗한 양심을 가지고 하느님을 섬깁니다.
- 나는 그대가 눈물을 흘리던 일을 기억하고 있기 때문에 그대를 만나기를 간절히 바라고 있습니다. 만나게 되면 내 기쁨은 더할 나위 없이 클 것입니다.
- 나는 그대의 거짓 없는 믿음을 생각하고 있습니다. 그 믿음은 먼저 그대의 할머니 로이스와 또 어머니 유니게에게 있었던 것입니다. 그리고 그대도 지금 그 믿음을 간직하고 있다는 것을 나는 확신합니다.

- Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands.
- For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
- Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God;
- Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,
- But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel:

- 그래서 나는 다시 그대를 깨우쳐줍니다. 내가 그대에게 안수했을 때에 하느님께서 그대에게 주신 그 은총의 선물을 생생하게 간직하시오.
- 하느님께서 주신 성령은 우리에게 비겁한 마음을 주시는 것이 아니라 힘과 사랑과 절제를 주십니다.
- 그러므로 그대가 우리 주님을 위해서 증인이 된 것이나 내가 주님을 위해서 죄수가 된 것을 부끄러워하지 마시오. 오히려 하느님께서 주시는 능력을 가지고 복음을 전하는 일을 위해서 나와 함께 고난에 참여하시오.
- 하느님께서는 우리를 구원해 주시고 우리를 부르셔서 당신의 거룩한 백성으로 삼아주셨습니다. 이것은 우리의 공로로 말미암은 것이 아니라 하느님의 계획과 은총으로 말미암은 것입니다. 이 은총은 천지 창조 이전에 벌써 그리스도 예수를 통해서 우리에게 주신 것이며
- 우리 구세주 그리스도 예수께서 이 세상에 오심으로써 이제는 분명히 드러난 것입니다. 그리스도께서는 죽음의 권세를 없애버리시고 복음을 통해서 불멸의 생명을 환하게 드러내 보이셨습니다.

- Whereunto I am appointed a preacher, and an apostle, and a teacher of the Gentiles.
- For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.
- Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.
- That good thing which was committed unto thee keep by the Holy Ghost which dwelleth in us.
- This thou knowest, that all they which are in Asia be turned away from me; of whom are Phygellus and Hermogenes.

- 나는 이 복음을 위해서 전도자와 사도와 교사로 임명을 받았습니다.
- 그래서 지금 나는 이런 고난을 당하고 있습니다. 그러나 나는 이것을 부끄럽게 생각하지는 않습니다. 나는 내가 믿어온 분이 어떤 분이신지 잘 알고 있으며 또 그분이 내가 맡은 것을 그 날까지 지켜주실 수 있다는 것을 확신합니다.
- 그대는 그리스도 예수를 통해서 얻은 믿음과 사랑을 가지고 나에게서 들은 건전한 말씀을 생활 원칙으로 삼으시오.
- 또 우리 안에 살아 계신 성령의 도움을 받아서 그대가 맡은 훌륭한 보화를 잘 간직하시오.
- 그대도 알다시피 피겔로와 헤르모게네를 비롯해서 아시아 사람들이 다 나에게서 떠나가 버렸습니다.

- The Lord give mercy unto the house of Onesiphorus; for he oft refreshed me, and was not ashamed of my chain:
- But, when he was in Rome, he sought me out very diligently, and found me.
- The Lord grant unto him that he may find mercy of the Lord in that day: and in how many things he ministered unto me at Ephesus, thou knowest very well.

- 주님께서 오네시포로의 집안에 자비를 베풀어주시기를 빕니다. 그는 나에게 용기를 북돋아준 것이 한두 번이 아니었고 감옥에 갇힌 나를 부끄럽게 생각하지 않았습니다.
- 그가 로마에 와서는 나를 찾느라고 굉장히 애쓴 끝에 나를 만났습니다.
- 내가 에페소에 있을 때에 그가 얼마나 많은 봉사를 하였는지 그대는 누구보다도 더 잘 알고 있습니다. 주님께서 다시 오시는 날에 그에게 자비를 베풀어주시기를 빕니다.
