- Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.
- And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.
- Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.
- No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.
- And if a man also strive for masteries, yet is he not crowned, except he strive lawfully.

- 사랑하는 디모테오, 그대는 그리스도 예수를 통해서 받은 은총으로 굳세어지시오.
- 그대는 많은 증인들이 있는 데서 내가 들려준 것을 믿음직한 사람들에게 전하시오. 그러면 그들도 또한 다른 사람들에게 가르칠 수 있을 것입니다.
- 그대는 그리스도 예수의 충성스러운 군인답게 그대가 받을 고난을 달게 받으시오.
- 군에 복무하는 사람은 자기를 뽑아준 상관을 기쁘게 해주어야 합니다. 그러므로 자기 살림살이에 얽매여서는 안 됩니다.
- 또 운동선수가 월계관을 얻으려면 규칙대로 경기를 해야 합니다.

- The husbandman that laboureth must be first partaker of the fruits.
- Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things.
- Remember that Jesus Christ of the seed of David was raised from the dead according to my gospel:
- Wherein I suffer trouble, as an evil doer, even unto bonds; but the word of God is not bound.
- Therefore I endure all things for the elect's sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.

- 그리고 힘들여 일한 농부가 소출을 먼저 받아야 한다는 것은 당연한 일입니다.
- 내가 하는 말을 잘 새겨들으시오. 주께서는 모든 것을 다 깨닫는 힘을 그대에게 주실 것입니다.
- 예수 그리스도를 기억하시오. 그분은 다윗의 후손이며 죽은 자들 가운데서 다시 살아나신 분이십니다. 내가 전한 복음이 바로 이것입니다.
- 나는 이 복음을 위해서 고통을 당하고 죄인처럼 감옥에 갇히기까지 했습니다. 그러나 하느님의 말씀이 감옥에 갇혀 있는 것은 아닙니다.
- 그러므로 나는 하느님께서 뽑으신 사람들이 그리스도 예수를 믿고 구원과 영원한 영광을 얻기를 바라는 마음으로 모든 것을 참고 있습니다

- It is a faithful saying: For if we be dead with him, we shall also live with him:
- If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us:
- If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself.
- Of these things put them in remembrance, charging them before the Lord that they strive not about words to no profit, but to the subverting of the hearers.
- Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

- "우리가 그분과 함께 죽었으니 그분과 함께 살 것이고
- 우리가 끝까지 참고 견디면 그분과 함께 다스리게 될 것이다. 우리가 그분을 모른다고 하면 그분도 우리를 모른다고 하실 것이다.
- 우리는 진실하지 못해도 그분은 언제나 진실하시니 약속을 어길 줄 모르시는 분이시다." 이것은 믿을 만한 말씀입니다.
- 다음과 같은 것을 신도들에게 깨우쳐주시오. 말을 가지고 논쟁을 벌이지 말라고 하느님 앞에서 엄숙히 명령하시오. 그것은 아무런 이익이 없을 뿐 아니라 듣는 사람들을 파멸에 이르게 합니다.
- 그대는 진리의 말씀을 올바르게 가르치고 부끄러울 것 없는 일꾼으로서 하느님께 인정을 받는 사람이 되도록 힘쓰시오.

- But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.
- And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus;
- Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some.
- Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.
- But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour.

- 속되고 헛된 말은 피하시오. 그것 때문에 사람들은 더욱더 하느님께로부터 멀어지고
- 그들이 하는 말은 암처럼 퍼져 나갈 것입니다. 히메내오와 필레도가 이 같은 사람들입니다.
- 그들은 부활이 이미 지나갔다고 떠들어대면서 진리에서 멀리 떠나버렸고 사람들의 믿음을 뒤흔들어놓고 있습니다.
- 그러나 하느님께서 놓아주신 기초는 튼튼해서 흔들리지 않습니다. 그리고 거기에는 "주님께서 당신에게 속한 사람들을 아신다." 하는 말씀과 또 "주님의 이름을 부르는 사람은 다 불의에서 떠나가거라." 하는 말씀이 새겨져 있습니다.
- 큰 집에는 금그릇과 은그릇뿐만 아니라 나무그릇과 질그릇도 있어서 어떤 것은 귀하게 쓰이고 또 어떤 것은 천하게 쓰입니다.

- If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master's use, and prepared unto every good work.

- 그러므로 모든 악을 버리고 자기 자신을 깨끗하게 하는 사람은 누구든지 귀하게 쓰이는 그릇이 될 것입니다. 그런 사람은 주인에게 쓸모있는 그릇으로 바쳐져서 모든 좋은 일에 쓰입니다.
