예레미야애가

  본서는 유다가 바벨론에 의해 멸망하고 백성들은 포로로 잡혀 간 암울한 상황을 슬퍼하는 노래이다. 다섯 편의 시로 구성되어 있는 본서는 각 장이 독립적으로 하나의 시를 이루고 있다. 예레미야는 예루살렘의 멸망을 보고 슬퍼하며, 하나님의 공의로우신 심판으로 말미암아 예루살렘이 황폐화되었음을 묘사하고 있다. 그리고 백성들에게 하나님께 희망을 둘 것을 상기시키고, 하나님께서 그의 백성들을 회복시켜 주시기를 간절히 기도 드리고 있다.

 

 

예레미야애가 1:1-2:22

 예레미야는 처참하게 멸망하여 황폐해진 예루살렘의 참상을 보면서 매우 슬퍼하며 절규하였다. 그리고 예루살렘의 구원을 위해 회개의 기도를 드렸으며, 예루살렘을 침공한 바벨론 군대들의 죄악상을 드러내며 하나님의 보응을 간구하였다. 나아가서 예레미야는 하나님의 공의의 심판으로 인해 고난과 조롱을 당하는 백성들에게 회개를 촉구하였다.
  
  예루살렘 성을 향한 애가(1:1-1:22)    
 
  1. How doth the city sit solitary, that was full of people! how is she become as a widow! she that was great among the nations, and princess among the provinces, how is she become tributary!
  2. She weepeth sore in the night, and her tears are on her cheeks: among all her lovers she hath none to comfort her: all her friends have dealt treacherously with her, they are become her enemies.
  3. Judah is gone into captivity because of affliction, and because of great servitude: she dwelleth among the heathen, she findeth no rest: all her persecutors overtook her between the straits.
  4. The ways of Zion do mourn, because none come to the solemn feasts: all her gates are desolate: her priests sigh, her virgins are afflicted, and she is in bitterness.
  5. Her adversaries are the chief, her enemies prosper; for the LORD hath afflicted her for the multitude of her transgressions: her children are gone into captivity before the enemy.
  1. 아, 그렇듯 붐비던 도성이 이렇게 쓸쓸해지다니. 예전에는 천하를 시녀처럼 거느리더니, 이제는 과부 신세가 되었구나. 열방이 여왕처럼 우러르더니 이제는 계집종 신세가 되었구나.
  2. 밤만 되면 서러워 목놓아 울고, 흐르는 눈물은 끝이 없구나. 사랑을 속삭이던 연인들조차 위로하여 주지 않고 벗들마저 원수가 되어 등돌리는구나.
  3. 유다는 욕보면서 살아오다가 끝내 잡혀가 종살이하게 되었구나. 이 나라 저 나라에 얹혀살자면 어디인들 마음 붙일 곳이 있으랴. 이리저리 쫓기다가 막다른 골목에 몰려 뒷덜미를 잡힌 꼴이 되었구나.
  4. 시온으로 오가는 길목에는 순례자의 발길이 끊어지고, 들리는 것은 통곡 소리뿐이구나. 모든 성문은 돌더미로 주저앉고, 사제들 입에서는 신음 소리뿐이요, 처녀들 입에서는 한숨 소리뿐이구나. 아, 시온이 이렇게도 처량하게 되다니,
  5. 야훼께 거스르기만 하던 시온, 정녕 죄를 받고 말았구나. 시온의 원수들이 득세하여 이제 닥치는 대로 어린것들마저 끌어가는구나.
  1. And from the daughter of Zion all her beauty is departed: her princes are become like harts that find no pasture, and they are gone without strength before the pursuer.
  2. Jerusalem remembered in the days of her affliction and of her miseries all her pleasant things that she had in the days of old, when her people fell into the hand of the enemy, and none did help her: the adversaries saw her, and did mock at her sabbaths.
  3. Jerusalem hath grievously sinned; therefore she is removed: all that honoured her despise her, because they have seen her nakedness: yea, she sigheth, and turneth backward.
  4. Her filthiness is in her skirts; she remembereth not her last end; therefore she came down wonderfully: she had no comforter. O LORD, behold my affliction: for the enemy hath magnified himself.
  5. The adversary hath spread out his hand upon all her pleasant things: for she hath seen that the heathen entered into her sanctuary, whom thou didst command that they should not enter into thy congregation.
  1. 수도 시온의 영화는 어디로 갔는가. 지도자들은 목장을 잃은 염소처럼 떠돌며 원수에게 맥없이 끌려가고 말았구나.
  2. 예루살렘이 어찌 잊을 것인가? 집없이 떠돌며 짓밟히던 나날을. 백성이 원수의 손아귀에 들었는데도, 아무도 도와줄 이 없어 적은 좋아라고 비웃기만 하였다.
  3. 예루살렘이, 그토록 죄를 짓던 예루살렘이 끝내 개짐처럼 되었구나. 일찍이 떠받들던 자들도 이젠 그 벌거숭이 모습이 역겨워 눈살을 찡그리고, 예루살렘은 한숨 지으며 쩔쩔매는구나.
  4. 치맛자락에 묻은 몸엣것이 부끄러워 "이렇게 될 줄이야!" 하고 제자리에 주저앉아도 위로해 주는 이 하나 없구나. 야훼여, 이 비참한 모습을 보십시오. 원수가 우쭐대는 꼴을 보십시오.
  5. 이 백성이 알뜰히 아끼던 것은 원수가 모조리 손아귀에 넣었습니다. 주의 성역에 들여놓지 말라고 하신 오랑캐들이 성소에까지 밀어닥치는 꼴을 보았습니다.
  1. All her people sigh, they seek bread; they have given their pleasant things for meat to relieve the soul: see, O LORD, and consider; for I am become vile.
  2. Is it nothing to you, all ye that pass by? behold, and see if there be any sorrow like unto my sorrow, which is done unto me, wherewith the LORD hath afflicted me in the day of his fierce anger.
  3. From above hath he sent fire into my bones, and it prevaileth against them: he hath spread a net for my feet, he hath turned me back: he hath made me desolate and faint all the day.
  4. The yoke of my transgressions is bound by his hand: they are wreathed, and come up upon my neck: he hath made my strength to fall, the LORD hath delivered me into their hands, from whom I am not able to rise up.
  5. The LORD hath trodden under foot all my mighty men in the midst of me: he hath called an assembly against me to crush my young men: the LORD hath trodden the virgin, the daughter of Judah, as in a winepress.
  1. 모든 백성이 신음하며 밥을 구걸하는 신세가 되었습니다. 패물을 먹을 것으로 바꾸며 겨우 입에 풀칠이나 하는 신세가 되었습니다. 야훼여, 이 비천한 몸을 보살펴 주십시오.
  2. 길 가는 나그네들이여, 나를 보시오. 야훼께서 노여움을 터뜨려 나를 내려치시던 날 겪던 그런 고생이 또 어디 있겠소?
  3. 높은 데서 내려 쏘신 그의 불화살이 뼈 속에 박혔다오. 그가 치신 올가미에 발이 걸려 나동그라져 박살나고 결딴나 버렸다오.
  4. 죄를 지었다고 하여 주께서 지우신 멍에가 어찌나 무거운지 그만 지쳐버렸다오. 주는 나를 옴짝도 못하게 죄의 사슬에 얽어매 놓으셨다오.
  5. 주는 적군을 불러들여 나의 군대를 쳐부수고, 이 성에서 나의 용사들을 몰아내셨다오. 나의 주는 포도를 술틀에 넣고 짓밟듯 숫처녀 같은 이 유다의 수도를 짓밟으셨다오.
  1. For these things I weep; mine eye, mine eye runneth down with water, because the comforter that should relieve my soul is far from me: my children are desolate, because the enemy prevailed.
  2. Zion spreadeth forth her hands, and there is none to comfort her: the LORD hath commanded concerning Jacob, that his adversaries should be round about him: Jerusalem is as a menstruous woman among them.
  3. The LORD is righteous; for I have rebelled against his commandment: hear, I pray you, all people, and behold my sorrow: my virgins and my young men are gone into captivity.
  4. I called for my lovers, but they deceived me: my priests and mine elders gave up the ghost in the city, while they sought their meat to relieve their souls.
  5. Behold, O LORD; for I am in distress: my bowels are troubled; mine heart is turned within me; for I have grievously rebelled: abroad the sword bereaveth, at home there is as death.
  1. 이런 일을 당하고도 나 어찌 통곡하지 않으리오. 눈물을 쏟지 않으리오. 나를 위로하며 되살려줄 이는 가까이 얼씬도 않는구려. 원수가 어찌나 억센지 내 아들들은 결딴나고 말았다오.
  2. 시온이 아무리 손을 내저어도 잡아줄 이가 없구려. 야훼께서도 원수더러 야곱을 에워 치라 하셨으니, 예루살렘은 개짐으로만 보일 것이오.
  3. 그렇다고 야훼께 무슨 잘못이 있겠소. 내가 그의 말씀을 거스른 탓이오. 열방은 귀담아 들어주시오. 이 고생하는 모양을 보아주시오. 이 나라 처녀 총각들은 모두 잡혀가고 말았다오.
  4. 옛 애인들을 불러보았지만 모두들 고개를 돌렸다오. 사제나 장로들은 목숨이나 이으려고 먹을 것을 찾아 헤매다가 성 안에서 모두 숨졌다오.
  5. 야훼여, 이 고생하는 모습을 보아주십시오. 애가 타고 가슴이 미어지는 듯합니다. 야훼를 거스르던 몸이라, 밖에서는 자식이 칼에 맞아 죽는 꼴을 보고, 안에서는 혈육이 앓아 죽는 꼴을 봅니다.
  1. They have heard that I sigh: there is none to comfort me: all mine enemies have heard of my trouble; they are glad that thou hast done it: thou wilt bring the day that thou hast called, and they shall be like unto me.
  2. Let all their wickedness come before thee; and do unto them, as thou hast done unto me for all my transgressions: for my sighs are many, and my heart is faint.
  1. 위로해 주는 이 하나 없는 이 몸의 신음 소리를 들어주십시오. 바로 주께서 내리신 재난으로 고생하는 모양을 보고 그것이 당신께서 내리신 것임을 알고는, 좋아라 웃어대는 원수들, 주께서 말씀하신 날이 어서 와서 그들도 저와 같은 꼴이 되게 해주십시오.
  2. 이 몸이 죄가 많아 주께 벌을 받았으나, 그들도 주께 거스르는 짓을 했으니, 똑같은 벌을 내려주십시오. 끝없는 이 한숨 소리, 심장이 다 멎을 듯합니다.
 
  주의 진노(2:1-2:22)    
 
  1. How hath the LORD covered the daughter of Zion with a cloud in his anger, and cast down from heaven unto the earth the beauty of Israel, and remembered not his footstool in the day of his anger!
  2. The LORD hath swallowed up all the habitations of Jacob, and hath not pitied: he hath thrown down in his wrath the strong holds of the daughter of Judah; he hath brought them down to the ground: he hath polluted the kingdom and the princes thereof.
  3. He hath cut off in his fierce anger all the horn of Israel: he hath drawn back his right hand from before the enemy, and he burned against Jacob like a flaming fire, which devoureth round about.
  4. He hath bent his bow like an enemy: he stood with his right hand as an adversary, and slew all that were pleasant to the eye in the tabernacle of the daughter of Zion: he poured out his fury like fire.
  5. The LORD was as an enemy: he hath swallowed up Israel, he hath swallowed up all her palaces: he hath destroyed his strong holds, and hath increased in the daughter of Judah mourning and lamentation.
  1. 아, 나의 주께서 노여움을 터뜨리시어 수도 시온을 먹구름으로 덮으셨구나. 진노하시던 그 날, 당신의 발판은 안중에도 없으셨고, 이스라엘의 영광을 하늘에서 땅으로 내던지셨다.
  2. 나의 주께서 야곱의 보금자리를 모두 사정없이 허무셨고, 진노하시어 유다 수도의 성채들을 쳐부수시고, 통치자와 신하들을 욕보이셨다.
  3. 크게 진노하시어 원수를 치는 대신 오른손으로 이스라엘의 뿔을 모조리 꺾으셨다. 타오르는 불길로 야곱을 사르시니, 가는 곳마다 잿더미로구나.
  4. 나의 주께서 원수인 양 적수인 양 화살을 메워 쏘아대셔서 끼끗한 사람들을 다 죽이셨다. 수도 시온의 장막에 불길 같은 노여움을 쏟으셨다.
  5. 나의 주께서 원수인 양 이스라엘을 삼키셨다. 망대를 돌아가며 허무시고 성채를 다 허시어, 유다의 수도에서 들리는 것은 신음 소리, 한숨 소리뿐이구나.
  1. And he hath violently taken away his tabernacle, as if it were of a garden: he hath destroyed his places of the assembly: the LORD hath caused the solemn feasts and sabbaths to be forgotten in Zion, and hath despised in the indignation of his anger the king and the priest.
  2. The LORD hath cast off his altar, he hath abhorred his sanctuary, he hath given up into the hand of the enemy the walls of her palaces; they have made a noise in the house of the LORD, as in the day of a solemn feast.
  3. The LORD hath purposed to destroy the wall of the daughter of Zion: he hath stretched out a line, he hath not withdrawn his hand from destroying: therefore he made the rampart and the wall to lament; they languished together.
  4. Her gates are sunk into the ground; he hath destroyed and broken her bars: her king and her princes are among the Gentiles: the law is no more; her prophets also find no vision from the LORD.
  5. The elders of the daughter of Zion sit upon the ground, and keep silence: they have cast up dust upon their heads; they have girded themselves with sackcloth: the virgins of Jerusalem hang down their heads to the ground.
  1. 당신께서는 도둑떼처럼 오두막을 허무시고, 순례절마다 모이는 자리를 결딴내셨다. 시온에 축제와 안식일이 언제 있었던가, 기억에서마저 사라지게 하셨다. 진노하시어 왕도 사제도 버리셨다.
  2. 주께서는 당신의 제단이 보기 싫어 성소를 버리셨구나. 높다란 성벽을 원수의 손에 내맡기셔서 허물게 하시니 원수들이 야훼의 집에서 축제 때처럼 환성을 올리는구나.
  3. 야훼께서 수도 시온의 성곽을 허무시기로 작정하시고, 손수 다림줄을 대시고 기어이 헐어버리셨다. 겹겹이 둘러싼 성벽이 한꺼번에 무너지며 울음 소리 터져 나오는구나.
  4. 빗장들이 부러지며 성문들이 내려앉고, 왕이나 고관들은 하느님의 법도 모르는 나라에 끌려가며, 예언자들은 야훼께 계시도 받지 못하게 되었다.
  5. 수도 시온의 장로들은 몸에 베옷을 걸치고 머리에 흙을 들쓰고, 기가 막혀 말도 못하고 주저앉아 있으며 예루살렘의 처녀들은 땅에 머리를 묻었다.
  1. Mine eyes do fail with tears, my bowels are troubled, my liver is poured upon the earth, for the destruction of the daughter of my people; because the children and the sucklings swoon in the streets of the city.
  2. They say to their mothers, Where is corn and wine? when they swooned as the wounded in the streets of the city, when their soul was poured out into their mothers' bosom.
  3. What thing shall I take to witness for thee? what thing shall I liken to thee, O daughter of Jerusalem? what shall I equal to thee, that I may comfort thee, O virgin daughter of Zion? for thy breach is great like the sea: who can heal thee?
  4. Thy prophets have seen vain and foolish things for thee: and they have not discovered thine iniquity, to turn away thy captivity; but have seen for thee false burdens and causes of banishment.
  5. All that pass by clap their hands at thee; they hiss and wag their head at the daughter of Jerusalem, saying, Is this the city that men call The perfection of beauty, The joy of the whole earth?
  1. 내 백성의 수도가 이렇게 망하다니, 울다 지쳐 눈앞이 아뜩하고 애가 끊어지는 것 같구나. 아이들, 젖먹이들이 성 안 길목에서 기절하는 모습을 보니, 창자가 터져 땅에 쏟아지는 것 같구나.
  2. 먹고 마실 것을 달라고 어미에게 조르다가, 성 안 광장에서 부상병처럼 맥이 빠져 어미 품에서 숨져갔구나.
  3. 수도 예루살렘아, 너에게 무슨 말을 더 하랴. 짓밟힌 일 없던 수도 시온아, 지금의 너 같은 처참한 꼴이 일찍이 없었는데, 나 너를 어디다 비겨 위로해 주랴. 네 상처가 바다처럼 벌어졌거늘, 어느 누가 다스려줄 것인가.
  4. 네 예언자들이 환상을 보고 일러준 말은 얼마나 허황한 거짓말이었던가? 네 죄를 밝혀 운명을 돌이켜주어야 할 것을, 허황한 거짓 예언만 늘어놓다니!
  5. 지나가는 길손이 모두들 너를 보고 손가락질한다. 수도 예루살렘을 보고 머리를 저으며 빈정거린다. "천하 일색이라 칭송이 자자하던 네가 고작 이 꼴이냐?"
  1. All thine enemies have opened their mouth against thee: they hiss and gnash the teeth: they say, We have swallowed her up: certainly this is the day that we looked for; we have found, we have seen it.
  2. The LORD hath done that which he had devised; he hath fulfilled his word that he had commanded in the days of old: he hath thrown down, and hath not pitied: and he hath caused thine enemy to rejoice over thee, he hath set up the horn of thine adversaries.
  3. Their heart cried unto the LORD, O wall of the daughter of Zion, let tears run down like a river day and night: give thyself no rest; let not the apple of thine eye cease.
  4. Arise, cry out in the night: in the beginning of the watches pour out thine heart like water before the face of the LORD: lift up thy hands toward him for the life of thy young children, that faint for hunger in the top of every street.
  5. Behold, O LORD, and consider to whom thou hast done this. Shall the women eat their fruit, and children of a span long? shall the priest and the prophet be slain in the sanctuary of the Lord?
  1. 네 모든 원수들이 입을 벌리고 달려들어, "어서 집어삼키세. 기다리던 날이 왔구나. 저 망하는 꼴을 보게." 놀려대며 입맛을 다신다.
  2. 야훼께서 벼르시던 일을 기어이 하셨다. 일러두셨던 일을 끝내 하시고 말았다. 일찍이 선언하신 대로 사정없이 너를 부수시었다. 원수들의 뿔을 들어올려 우쭐거리게 하셨다.
  3. 짓밟힌 일 없던 수도 시온아, 참마음으로 주께 울부짖어라. 밤낮으로 눈물을 강물같이 흘려라. 조금도 마음을 놓지 마라. 눈 붙일 생각도 하지 마라.
  4. 야경 도는 초저녁부터 일어나 울부짖어라. 네 마음을 주 앞에 물붓듯이 쏟아라. 길목에서 굶주려 숨져가는 자식들을 살려달라고 손을 들어 빌어라.
  5. 야훼여, 보이지 않으십니까? 주께서 이렇듯 누구를 괴롭히신 일이 있으십니까? 어미가 제 속으로 난 성한 자식을 먹다니, 차마 이럴 수가 있습니까? 사제와 예언자가 주의 성소에서 살육을 당하다니, 이럴 수가 있습니까?
  1. The young and the old lie on the ground in the streets: my virgins and my young men are fallen by the sword; thou hast slain them in the day of thine anger; thou hast killed, and not pitied.
  2. Thou hast called as in a solemn day my terrors round about, so that in the day of the LORD's anger none escaped nor remained: those that I have swaddled and brought up hath mine enemy consumed.
  1. 젊은이와 늙은이가 길바닥에 쓰러졌습니다. 이 나라 처녀 총각들이 칼에 맞아 쓰러졌습니다. 그 날 주께서 진노하시어 죽이셨습니다. 사정없이 죽이셨습니다.
  2. 축제일에 사람을 불러들이듯 당신께서는 사방에서 제 원수를 불러들이셨습니다. 주께서 진노하시던 날, 한 사람도 몸을 빼어 살아 남지 못했습니다. 제가 낳아서 고이 기른 것들을 원수들이 모두 잡아죽였습니다.
