- 아브라함은 믿음이 있었기 때문에 하느님께서 시험하시려고 이사악을 바치라고 명령하셨을 때 기꺼이 바쳤습니다. 이사악은 외아들이었고 그를 두고 하느님께서 약속까지 해주신 아들이었지만 그를 기꺼이 바치려고 했던 것입니다.
- 하느님께서는 "이사악에게서 너의 후손이 퍼져 나가리라" 하고 약속하셨던 것입니다.
- 아브라함은 하느님께서 죽었던 사람들까지 살리실 수 있다고 믿고 있었습니다. 그러므로 아브라함에게는 이를테면 죽었던 이사악을 되찾은 셈이 되었습니다.
- 이사악은 믿음으로 야곱과 에사오의 장래를 축복해 주었습니다.
- 야곱도 죽을 때에 믿음으로 요셉의 아들들을 하나 하나 축복해 주고 지팡이에 기대어 하느님께 경배를 드렸습니다.

- 요셉도 죽을 때 믿음으로 이스라엘 자손들이 이집트를 빠져 나갈 일을 말하고 자기 뼈의 처리를 일러주었습니다.
- 모세가 태어났을 때에 그 부모는 믿음으로 석 달 동안이나 감추어두었습니다. 그들이 보기에 그 아기는 참으로 아름다웠던 것입니다. 그리고 그들은 왕의 명령조차 무서워하지 않았습니다.
- 모세는 어른이 되었을 때 믿음으로 파라오의 딸의 아들이라 불리는 것을 거부하고
- 죄의 일시적인 쾌락을 즐기기보다는 오히려 하느님의 백성과 함께 학대받는 길을 택했습니다.
- 모세는 메시아를 위해서 당하는 치욕을 이집트의 제물보다 더 값진 것으로 여겼습니다. 그는 앞으로 받을 상을 바라보고 있었던 것입니다.

- 모세는 믿음으로 왕의 분노도 무서워하지 않고 이집트를 떠났습니다. 그는 보이지 않는 하느님을 본 듯 확신을 가지고 행동했던 것입니다.
- 모세는 믿음으로 과월절을 제정하고 문에 피를 뿌리게 해서 살육의 천사로 하여금 이스라엘 백성의 맏아들을 다치지 못하게 했습니다.
- 이스라엘 백성들은 믿음이 있었기 때문에 마른 땅을 지나가듯이 홍해를 건넜습니다. 이집트 사람들도 그렇게 건너려고 했으나 빠져 죽고 말았습니다.
- 이스라엘 사람들이 믿음으로 예리고 성을 이레 동안 돌자 그 성은 드디어 무너지고 말았습니다.
- 창녀 라합은 믿음으로 정탐꾼을 자기 편처럼 도와주어 하느님을 거역하는 자들이 당하는 멸망을 같이 당하지 않았습니다.
