- Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ:
- Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,
- According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
- Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
- And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;

- 예수 그리스도의 종이며 사도인 나 시몬 베드로는 우리의 하느님이시며 구세주이신 예수 그리스도의 정의에 힘입어 귀중한 믿음을 우리와 함께 간직하게 된 여러분에게 이 편지를 씁니다.
- 하느님과 우리 주 예수를 알게 됨으로써 은총과 평화를 충만하게 받으시기를 빕니다.
- 그리스도께서는 당신이 가지신 하느님의 능력으로 우리에게 경건한 생활을 하는 데 필요한 모든 것을 주셨습니다. 그래서 우리를 부르셔서 당신의 영광과 능력을 누리게 하신 그분을 알게 해주셨습니다.
- 우리는 그 영광과 능력에 힘입어 귀중하고 가장 훌륭한 약속을 받았습니다. 여러분은 그 덕분으로 정욕에서 나오는 이 세상의 부패에서 멀리 떠나 하느님의 본성을 나누어 받게 되었습니다.
- 그러니 여러분은 열성을 다하여 믿음에 미덕을 더하고, 미덕에 지식을,

- And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;
- And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.
- For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
- But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.
- Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:

- 지식에 절제를, 절제에 인내를, 인내에 경건을,
- 경건에 교우끼리의 사랑을, 교우끼리의 사랑에 만민에 대한 사랑을 더하십시오.
- 여러분이 이런 것들을 풍성하게 갖추면 여러분은 부지런히 우리 주 예수 그리스도를 알려고 할 것이며 마침내는 그를 잘 알게 될 것입니다.
- 그러나 이런 것들을 갖추지 못한 사람은 앞 못 보는 장님이며 과거에 지은 죄가 깨끗해졌다는 것을 잊어버린 사람입니다.
- 그러므로 형제 여러분, 하느님께서 여러분을 불러주시고 뽑아주셨다는 사실을 여러분은 더욱 확실히 깨닫도록 하십시오. 그러면 여러분은 절대로 빗나가는 일이 없을 것이고

- For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
- Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and be established in the present truth.
- Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance;
- Knowing that shortly I must put off this my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ hath shewed me.
- Moreover I will endeavour that ye may be able after my decease to have these things always in remembrance.

- 또한 여러분에게는 우리의 주님이시며 구세주이신 예수 그리스도의 영원한 나라로 들어가는 문이 활짝 열릴 것입니다.
- 여러분은 이런 것들을 이미 다 알고 있을 뿐만 아니라 여러분이 받은 진리를 굳게 간직하고 있을 터이지만 나는 언제나 여러분에게 그것들을 일깨워주려고 합니다.
- 내가 이 세상에 살아 있는 동안은 여러분을 일깨워 분발하게 하는 것이 마땅한 일인 줄 압니다.
- 우리 주 예수 그리스도께서 보여주신 대로 내가 이 세상을 떠날 때가 멀지 않았다는 것을 알고 있기 때문입니다.
- 내가 죽은 뒤에도 여러분이 이런 일들을 언제나 되새길 수 있게 하려고 나는 힘쓰겠습니다.

- For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty.
- For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
- And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount.
- We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:
- Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.

- 우리가 여러분에게 알려준 우리 주 예수 그리스도의 권능과 강림의 이야기는 사람들이 꾸며낸 신화에서 나온 것이 아닙니다. 우리는 그분이 얼마나 위대한 분이신지를 우리의 눈으로 보았습니다.
- 그분은 분명히 하느님 아버지로부터 영예와 영광을 받으셨습니다. 그것은 최고의 영광을 지니신 하느님께서 그분을 가리켜 "이는 내 사랑하는 아들, 내 마음에 드는 아들이다." 하고 말씀하시는 음성이 들려왔을 때의 일입니다.
- 우리는 그 거룩한 산에서 그분과 함께 있었으므로 하늘에서 들려오는 그 음성을 직접 들었습니다.
- 이것으로 예언의 말씀이 더욱 확실해졌습니다. 여러분의 마음속에 동이 트고 샛별이 떠오를 때까지는 어둠 속을 밝혀주는 등불을 바라보듯이 그 말씀에 주의를 기울이는 것이 좋겠습니다.
- 그리고 무엇보다도 먼저 알아야 할 것은 성서의 어떤 예언도 임의로 해석해서는 안 된다는 점입니다.

- For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

- 예언은 인간의 생각에서 나온 것이 아니라 사람들이 성령에 이끌려서 하느님께로부터 말씀을 받아 전한 것입니다.
