- This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance:
- That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour:
- Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,
- And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.
- For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:

- 사랑하는 여러분, 나는 지금 여러분에게 두 번째 편지를 쓰고 있습니다. 나는 먼젓번과 마찬가지로 이번에도 여러분의 기억을 새롭게 하여 여러분의 순수한 마음을 불러일으키려고 한 것입니다.
- 그래서 거룩한 예언자들이 이미 예언한 말씀과 주님이신 구세주께서 여러분의 사도들에게 주신 계명을 되새기게 하려는 것입니다.
- 무엇보다도 먼저 여러분이 알아두어야 할 것은 이것입니다. 곧 마지막 시대에 자기들의 욕정을 따라 사는 자들이 나타나서 여러분을 조롱하며
- "그리스도가 다시 온다는 약속은 어떻게 되었는가? 그 약속을 기다리던 선배들도 죽었고 모든 것이 창조 이래 조금도 달라진 것이 없지 않으냐?" 하고 말할 것입니다.
- 그들은 아득한 옛날에 하느님의 말씀으로 하늘과 땅이 창조되었다는 사실을 일부러 외면하고 있습니다. 하느님의 말씀에 의해서 땅이 물에서 나왔고 또 물에 의해서 이루어졌습니다.

- Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:
- But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.
- But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
- The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
- But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

- 그리고 물에 잠겨서 옛날의 세계는 멸망해 버렸습니다.
- 사실 하늘과 땅은 지금도 하느님의 같은 말씀에 의해서 그대로 남아 있습니다. 그러나 하늘과 땅은 하느님을 배반하는 자들이 멸망당할 심판의 날까지만 보존되었다가 불에 타버리고 말 것입니다.
- 사랑하는 여러분, 이 한 가지를 잊지 마십시오. 주님께는 하루가 천 년 같고 천 년이 하루 같습니다.
- 어떤 이들은 주님께서 약속하신 것을 미루신다고 생각하고 있지만 사실은 여러분을 위해서 참고 기다리시는 것입니다. 아무도 멸망하지 않고 모두 회개하게 되기를 바라시기 때문입니다.
- 그러나 주님의 날은 도둑처럼 갑자기 올 것입니다. 그 날에 하늘은 요란한 소리를 내면서 사라지고 천체는 타서 녹아버리고 땅과 그 위에 있는 모든 것은 없어지고 말 것입니다.

- Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,
- Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?
- Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.
- Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.
- And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you;

- 이렇게 모든 것이 다 파괴될 것이니 여러분은 어떻게 살아야 할지 생각해 보십시오. 거룩하고 경건한 생활을 하면서
- 하느님의 심판날을 기다릴 뿐 아니라 그 날이 속히 오도록 힘써야 할 것입니다. 그 날이 오면 하늘은 불타 없어지고 천체는 타서 녹아버릴 것입니다.
- 그러나 우리는 하느님의 약속을 믿고 새 하늘과 새 땅을 기다리고 있습니다. 거기에는 정의가 깃들여 있습니다.
- 사랑하는 여러분, 여러분은 그 날을 기다리고 있으니만큼 티와 흠이 없이 살면서 하느님과 화목하는 사람이 되도록 노력하십시오.
- 그리고 우리 주님께서 오래 참으시는 것도 모든 사람에게 구원받을 기회를 주시려는 것이라고 생각하십시오. 이것은 우리의 사랑하는 형제 바울로가 하느님께로부터 지혜를 받아 여러분에게 써 보낸 바와 같습니다.

- As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.
- Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness.
- But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.

- 바울로는 어느 편지에서나 이런 말을 하고 있습니다. 그러나 그 중에는 이해하기 어려운 대목이 더러 있어서 무식하고 마음이 들떠 있는 사람들이 성서의 다른 부분들을 곡해하듯이 그것을 곡해함으로써 스스로 파멸을 불러들이고 있습니다.
- 그러므로 사랑하는 여러분은 이것을 미리 알고 무법한 자들의 속임수에 빠져 들어가 자기의 확신을 잃는 일이 없도록 조심해야 합니다.
- 여러분이 우리의 주님이시며 구세주이신 예수 그리스도의 은총을 입고 또 그분을 앎으로써 계속 자라나기를 바랍니다. 이제와 또 영원토록 그분께서 영광을 받으시기를 빕니다. 아멘.
