- The word of the LORD that came to Joel the son of Pethuel.
- Hear this, ye old men, and give ear, all ye inhabitants of the land. Hath this been in your days, or even in the days of your fathers?
- Tell ye your children of it, and let your children tell their children, and their children another generation.
- That which the palmerworm hath left hath the locust eaten; and that which the locust hath left hath the cankerworm eaten; and that which the cankerworm hath left hath the caterpiller eaten.
- Awake, ye drunkards, and weep; and howl, all ye drinkers of wine, because of the new wine; for it is cut off from your mouth.

- 브두엘의 아들 요엘에게 내린 야훼의 말씀.
- 늙은이들은 들어라. 이 땅의 주민들은 모두 귀를 기울여라. 너희 세대에 이런 일이 있었느냐? 너희 조상 적에 이런 일이 있었느냐?
- 이 일을 너희의 자녀들에게 일러라. 자녀들은 또 그 자녀들에게 그 자녀들은 또 그 다음 세대에 이르게 하여라.
- 풀무치가 남긴 것은 메뚜기가 갉아먹고 메뚜기가 남긴 것은 누리가 썰어먹고 누리가 남긴 것은 황충이가 탕쳐 먹었다.
- 포도주에 취한 자들아, 깨어 일어나 울며 통곡하여라. 술이 다 떨어지게 되었다.

- For a nation is come up upon my land, strong, and without number, whose teeth are the teeth of a lion, and he hath the cheek teeth of a great lion.
- He hath laid my vine waste, and barked my fig tree: he hath made it clean bare, and cast it away; the branches thereof are made white.
- Lament like a virgin girded with sackcloth for the husband of her youth.
- The meat offering and the drink offering is cut off from the house of the LORD; the priests, the LORD's ministers, mourn.
- The field is wasted, the land mourneth; for the corn is wasted: the new wine is dried up, the oil languisheth.

- 수도 없이 많은 외국군이 내 나라에 쳐들어왔다. 그 이빨은 사자 이빨 같고 암사자의 송곳니 같은 것들이
- 내 포도원을 짓밟고 내 무화과 동산을 찍어내는데 껍질들을 하얗게 벗겨버리는구나.
- 약혼자의 죽음을 슬퍼하는 처녀처럼 상복을 입고 통곡하여라.
- 곡식도 포도주도 야훼의 성전에 드릴 것이 없어 야훼를 섬기는 사제들은 슬픔에 잠겼다.
- 들판은 망그러지고 밭은 메말랐다. 곡식은 다 떨어졌고 포도주는 바닥이 드러났으며 올리브 기름은 말라버렸다.

- Be ye ashamed, O ye husbandmen; howl, O ye vinedressers, for the wheat and for the barley; because the harvest of the field is perished.
- The vine is dried up, and the fig tree languisheth; the pomegranate tree, the palm tree also, and the apple tree, even all the trees of the field, are withered: because joy is withered away from the sons of men.
- Gird yourselves, and lament, ye priests: howl, ye ministers of the altar: come, lie all night in sackcloth, ye ministers of my God: for the meat offering and the drink offering is withholden from the house of your God.
- Sanctify ye a fast, call a solemn assembly, gather the elders and all the inhabitants of the land into the house of the LORD your God, and cry unto the LORD,
- Alas for the day! for the day of the LORD is at hand, and as a destruction from the Almighty shall it come.

- 기가 차느냐, 농부들아? 포도원을 가꾸던 자들아, 울어라. 밀이나 보리뿐이랴, 거두려던 곡식이 모조리 없어졌다.
- 포도덩굴은 마르고 무화과나무는 시들었다. 석류나무, 대추나무, 능금나무 할 것 없이 들판의 나무들은 모두 시들었다. 모든 사람에게서 기쁨은 사라졌다.
- 사제들아, 베옷을 걸치고 슬피 울어라. 제단에서 시중드는 자들아, 통곡하여라. 내 하느님께 시중드는 자들아, 와서 베옷을 걸치고 밤을 새워라. 너희 하느님의 전에 드릴 곡식도 포도주도 모두 떨어졌다.
- 단식을 선포하여라. 성회를 소집하여라. 장로들아, 전국민을 불러 너희 하느님 전에 모으고 야훼께 부르짖어라.
- 마침내 그 날이 오고야 말았구나. 야훼께서 거둥하실 날이 다가왔구나. 전능하신 하느님께서 마구 멸하실 날이 오고야 말았구나.

- Is not the meat cut off before our eyes, yea, joy and gladness from the house of our God?
- The seed is rotten under their clods, the garners are laid desolate, the barns are broken down; for the corn is withered.
- How do the beasts groan! the herds of cattle are perplexed, because they have no pasture; yea, the flocks of sheep are made desolate.
- O LORD, to thee will I cry: for the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness, and the flame hath burned all the trees of the field.
- The beasts of the field cry also unto thee: for the rivers of waters are dried up, and the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness.

- 음식은 볼 수도 없이 되지 않았느냐? 우리 하느님의 전에서 기쁨과 즐거움이 사라지지 않았느냐?
- 흙이 말라 그 속에서 씨앗은 죽고 곡식이 없어 창고는 비고 곳간은 무너졌다.
- 목장이 없어져 가축들이 울부짖고 소떼들이 소란하다. 양떼라고 그 벌을 면할쏘냐?
- 야훼여, 내가 주께 부르짖습니다. 들판의 목장이 타버렸습니다. 벌판의 나무들도 모조리 타버렸습니다.
- 물줄기들은 모두 마르고 들판의 목장도 모두 타버려 가축들이 벌판에서 주께 부르짖습니다.
