	열왕기상 3:1-4:34 일천 번제를 드리며 헌신을 다짐하는 솔로몬에게 하나님께서는 그가 구한 지혜와 함께 부와 영광도 주셨다. 솔로몬은 인재를 등용해 신하로 삼고 각지방을 다스리는 12장관을 세움으로써 평화롭고 부강한 왕국을 이루어 나갔다. 이러한 솔로몬의 지혜와 부요함은 세상에 널리 알려졌다.

	솔로몬의 지혜(3:1-3:28)

And Solomon made affinity with Pharaoh king of Egypt, and took Pharaoh's daughter, and brought her into the city of David, until he had made an end of building his own house, and the house of the LORD, and the wall of Jerusalem round about.

Only the people sacrificed in high places, because there was no house built unto the name of the LORD, until those days.

And Solomon loved the LORD, walking in the statutes of David his father: only he sacrificed and burnt incense in high places.

And the king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there; for that was the great high place: a thousand burnt offerings did Solomon offer upon that altar.

In Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream by night: and God said, Ask what I shall give thee.

솔로몬은 이집트 왕 바로와 우호 조약을 맺고 그의 딸과 결혼하여 아내를 예루살렘으로 데리고 왔다. 그는 그의 궁전과 성전을 짓고 예루살렘 주변의 성벽을 다 쌓을 때까지 그녀를 다윗성에서 살게 하였다.

이 때는 여호와의 성전이 아직 건축되지 않았기 때문에 이스라엘 백성들은 산 위에 쌓은 여러 제단에서 제사를 지내는 실정이었다.

솔로몬은 여호와를 사랑하고 자기 아버지 다윗의 모든 교훈을 거울삼아 살았으나 그는 여전히 산당에서 제사를 드리고 분향하였다.

당시에 가장 유명한 산당은 기브온에 있었으므로 솔로몬 왕은 기브온으로 가서 1,000마리의 짐승을 잡아 번제를 드렸다.

그 날 밤 여호와께서 꿈에 솔로몬에게 나타나 '내가 너에게 무엇을 주었으면 좋겠는지 말해 보아라.' 하고 말씀하셨다.

And Solomon said, Thou hast shewed unto thy servant David my father great mercy, according as he walked before thee in truth, and in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with thee; and thou hast kept for him this great kindness, that thou hast given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day.

And now, O LORD my God, thou hast made thy servant king instead of David my father: and I am but a little child: I know not how to go out or come in.

And thy servant is in the midst of thy people which thou hast chosen, a great people, that cannot be numbered nor counted for multitude.

Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern between good and bad: for who is able to judge this thy so great a people?

And the speech pleased the LORD, that Solomon had asked this thing.

그래서 솔로몬은 이렇게 대답하였다. '주께서는 주의 종 내 아버지 다윗에게 언제나 크신 사랑을 베푸셨습니다. 내 아버지께서 정직하고 진실하게 살며 주께 충성을 다하였으므로 주께서는 한결같은 은혜를 베푸셔서 오늘날처럼 왕위를 이을 아들을 그에게 주셨습니다.

나의 하나님 여호와여, 이제 주께서 나의 아버지 다윗을 이어 나를 왕이 되게 하셨는데 아직 나는 어린 아이와 같아서 내 직무를 어떻게 수행해야 할지 모르고 있습니다.

게다가 내가 다스릴 주의 택한 백성들은 그 수가 헤아릴 수 없을 만큼 많습니다.

그러므로 주의 백성들을 잘 다스리고 선과 악을 분별할 수 있는 지혜로운 마음을 나에게 주소서. 그렇지 않으면 내가 어떻게 이처럼 많은 주의 백성을 다스릴 수 있겠습니까?'

솔로몬이 지혜를 구하므로 여호와께서는 기뻐하시며

And God said unto him, Because thou hast asked this thing, and hast not asked for thyself long life; neither hast asked riches for thyself, nor hast asked the life of thine enemies; but hast asked for thyself understanding to discern judgment;

Behold, I have done according to thy words: lo, I have given thee a wise and an understanding heart; so that there was none like thee before thee, neither after thee shall any arise like unto thee.

And I have also given thee that which thou hast not asked, both riches, and honour: so that there shall not be any among the kings like unto thee all thy days.

And if thou wilt walk in my ways, to keep my statutes and my commandments, as thy father David did walk, then I will lengthen thy days.

And Solomon awoke; and, behold, it was a dream. And he came to Jerusalem, and stood before the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and offered up burnt offerings, and offered peace offerings, and made a feast to all his servants.

그에게 이렇게 말씀하셨다. '너는 오래 살게 해 달라거나 부를 얻게 해 달라거나 아니면 네 원수들을 죽여 달라는 요구를 할 수도 있었다. 그러나 네가 자신을 위해서 이런 것을 구하지 않고 다만 내 백성을 바르게 다스릴 지혜를 구하였으니

내가 네 요구대로 지혜롭고 총명한 마음을 너에게 주어 역사상에 너와 같은 자가 없도록 하겠다.

그리고 나는 또 네가 요구하지 않은 부귀와 명예도 너에게 주어 네 평생에 너와 같은 왕이 없도록 하겠다.

만일 네가 네 아버지 다윗처럼 나에게 순종하고 내 법과 명령을 지키면 내가 너를 오래오래 살도록 하겠다.'

솔로몬이 눈을 떠 보니 그것은 꿈이었다. 그는 예루살렘으로 돌아와 여호와의 법궤 앞에 서서 번제와 화목제를 드린 다음 그의 모든 신하들을 초청하여 큰 잔치를 베풀었다.

Then came there two women, that were harlots, unto the king, and stood before him.

And the one woman said, O my lord, I and this woman dwell in one house; and I was delivered of a child with her in the house.

And it came to pass the third day after that I was delivered, that this woman was delivered also: and we were together; there was no stranger with us in the house, save we two in the house.

And this woman's child died in the night; because she overlaid it.

And she arose at midnight, and took my son from beside me, while thine handmaid slept, and laid it in her bosom, and laid her dead child in my bosom.

그 후 두 창녀가 시빗거리로 왕을 찾아와서

한 창녀가 이렇게 말하였다. '임금님, 우리는 다 같이 한 집에 살고 있습니다. 최근에 우리는 모두 아들을 낳았는데

제가 아이를 낳은 지 3일 만에 이 여자도 아이를 낳았습니다. 그때 집안에는 아무도 없었고 우리 둘만 있었습니다.

그런데 어느 날 밤 이 여자는 잠을 자다가 자기 아이를 깔아 뭉개 죽이고 말았습니다.

그러자 이 여자는 밤 중에 일어나 내가 잠을 자는 사이에 내 곁에 누워 있는 내 아들과 죽은 자기 아들을 바꿔쳤습니다.

And when I rose in the morning to give my child suck, behold, it was dead: but when I had considered it in the morning, behold, it was not my son, which I did bear.

And the other woman said, Nay; but the living is my son, and the dead is thy son. And this said, No; but the dead is thy son, and the living is my son. Thus they spake before the king.

Then said the king, The one saith, This is my son that liveth, and thy son is the dead: and the other saith, Nay; but thy son is the dead, and my son is the living.

And the king said, Bring me a sword. And they brought a sword before the king.

And the king said, Divide the living child in two, and give half to the one, and half to the other.

다음 날 아침에 일어나 젖을 먹이려고 보니 아이가 죽어 있지 않겠습니까! 그러나 날이 밝아 좀더 자세히 보니 그 아이는 내 아들이 아니었습니다.'

그때 다른 여자가 '아니야, 살아있는 아이가 내 아들이고 죽은 아이는 네 아들이야' 하고 우겨대자 이번에는 처음 여자가 '아니야, 죽은 아이가 네 아들이고 산 아이는 내 아들이야' 하며 왕 앞에서 서로 다투었다.

그러자 왕은 '너희가 살아 있는 아이를 서로 자기 아들이라고 말하고 죽은 아이는 서로 남의 아들이라 주장하는구나' 하며

칼을 가져오게 한 다음

'산 아이를 둘로 잘라서 한쪽씩 나누어 주어라.' 하고 명령하였다.

Then spake the woman whose the living child was unto the king, for her bowels yearned upon her son, and she said, O my lord, give her the living child, and in no wise slay it. But the other said, Let it be neither mine nor thine, but divide it.

Then the king answered and said, Give her the living child, and in no wise slay it: she is the mother thereof.

And all Israel heard of the judgment which the king had judged; and they feared the king: for they saw that the wisdom of God was in him, to do judgment.

그러자 그 아이의 진짜 어머니는 자기 아들이 대한 사랑으로 마음이 찢어질 것 같아서 왕에게 '임금님, 그건 안 됩니다. 제발 그 아이를 죽이지 마시고 저 여자에게 주십시오.' 하였다. 그러나 다른 여자는 '좋다. 어차피 네 아이도 내 아이도 안 될 바에야 차라리 둘로 잘라 나누어 가지자' 하였다.

이때 왕은 '그 아이를 죽이지 말고 아이를 살려 달라고 애걸하는 저 여자에게 주어라. 그녀가 저 아이의 진짜 어머니이다.' 하고 판결하였다.

이 소문이 온 이스라엘 땅에 퍼지자 백성들은 하나님이 솔로몬에게 놀라운 지혜를 주신 줄 알고 두려운 마음으로 그를 우러러보았다.

	솔로몬의 번영(4:1-4:34)

So king Solomon was king over all Israel.

And these were the princes which he had; Azariah the son of Zadok the priest,

Elihoreph and Ahiah, the sons of Shisha, scribes; Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud, the recorder.

And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over the host: and Zadok and Abiathar were the priests:

And Azariah the son of Nathan was over the officers: and Zabud the son of Nathan was principal officer, and the king's friend:

이제 솔로몬은 온 이스라엘을 다스리는 왕이 되었다.

그리고 그의 측근 신하들은 다음과 같다 사독의 아들 아사랴는 제사장,

시사의 아들 엘리호렙과 아히야는 서기관, 아힐룻의 아들 여호사밧은 역사관,

여호야다의 아들 브나야는 군 총사령관, 사독과 아비아달은 제사장,

나단의 아들 아사랴는 내무장관, 나단의 아들 사붓은 왕의 제사장겸 자문관,

And Ahishar was over the household: and Adoniram the son of Abda was over the tribute.

And Solomon had twelve officers over all Israel, which provided victuals for the king and his household: each man his month in a year made provision.

And these are their names: The son of Hur, in mount Ephraim:

The son of Dekar, in Makaz, and in Shaalbim, and Bethshemesh, and Elonbethhanan:

The son of Hesed, in Aruboth; to him pertained Sochoh, and all the land of Hepher:

아히살은 궁중 대신, 그리고 압다의 아들 아도니람은 사역군의 총감독관이었다.

솔로몬은 또 이스라엘 전국에 12명의 지방 장관을 두어 차례로 돌아가면서 일 년에 한 달씩 왕궁의 식량을 조달하게 했는데

그들의 이름과 그 관할 지역은 다음과 같다 에브라임 산간 지대를 관할하는 벤-훌,

마가스와 사알빔과 벧-세메스와 엘론-벧-하난에는 벤-데겔,

아룹봇과 소고와 헤벨의 모든 땅에는 벤-헤셋,

The son of Abinadab, in all the region of Dor; which had Taphath the daughter of Solomon to wife:

Baana the son of Ahilud; to him pertained Taanach and Megiddo, and all Bethshean, which is by Zartanah beneath Jezreel, from Bethshean to Abelmeholah, even unto the place that is beyond Jokneam:

The son of Geber, in Ramothgilead; to him pertained the towns of Jair the son of Manasseh, which are in Gilead; to him also pertained the region of Argob, which is in Bashan, threescore great cities with walls and brasen bars:

Ahinadab the son of Iddo had Mahanaim:

Ahimaaz was in Naphtali; he also took Basmath the daughter of Solomon to wife:

돌 고원 지대에는 다밧과 결혼한 솔로몬의 사위 벤-아비나답,

다아낙과 므깃도와 이스르엘 아래 사르단 근처에 있는 벧-스안 전 지역과 벤-스안에서부터 아벨-므홀라와 욕느암까지의 땅에는 아힐룻의 아들 바아나,

길르앗의 라못과 길르앗에 있는 므낫세의 자손 야일의 모든 부락들과 바산의 아르곱 일대와 성벽과 놋빗장이 있는 60개의 성을 관할하는 벤-게벨,

마하나임에는 잇도의 아들 아히나답,

납달리에는 바스맛과 결혼한 솔로몬의 사위 아히마아스,

Baanah the son of Hushai was in Asher and in Aloth:

Jehoshaphat the son of Paruah, in Issachar:

Shimei the son of Elah, in Benjamin:

Geber the son of Uri was in the country of Gilead, in the country of Sihon king of the Amorites, and of Og king of Bashan; and he was the only officer which was in the land.

Judah and Israel were many, as the sand which is by the sea in multitude, eating and drinking, and making merry.

아셀과 알롯에는 후새의 아들 바아나,

잇사갈에는 바루아의 아들 여호사밧,

베냐민에는 엘라의 아들 시므이,

그리고 아모리 왕 시혼과 바산 왕 옥이 다스리던 길르앗 땅은 우리의 아들 게벨이 관할하였다. 그리고 이 12명의 지방 장관 외에도 이들의 업무를 지휘. 감독하는 수석 장관 한 사람이 더 있었다.

유다와 이스라엘의 인구는 바닷가의 모래알처럼 많았으며 그들은 풍족하게 먹고 마시며 행복하게 살았다.

And Solomon reigned over all kingdoms from the river unto the land of the Philistines, and unto the border of Egypt: they brought presents, and served Solomon all the days of his life.

And Solomon's provision for one day was thirty measures of fine flour, and threescore measures of meal,

Ten fat oxen, and twenty oxen out of the pastures, and an hundred sheep, beside harts, and roebucks, and fallowdeer, and fatted fowl.

For he had dominion over all the region on this side the river, from Tiphsah even to Azzah, over all the kings on this side the river: and he had peace on all sides round about him.

And Judah and Israel dwelt safely, every man under his vine and under his fig tree, from Dan even to Beersheba, all the days of Solomon.

그리고 솔로몬 왕은 유프라테스강에서부터 블레셋 사람의 땅과 이집트 국경까지 모든 나라를 통치하였으며 그 속국들은 솔로몬이 살아 있는 동안 조공을 바치고 그를 섬겼다.

솔로몬의 왕궁에서 하루에 소비되는 식량은 고운 밀가루 약 7킬로리터, 보통 밀가루 약 14킬로리터,

축사에서 가두어 기른 소 10마리, 초원에서 놓아 기른 소 20마리, 양 100마리, 그 밖에 사슴과 영양과 노루와 살진 새들이었다.

솔로몬은 딥사에서부터 가사까지 유프라테스강 서쪽의 모든 나라를 통치하였으며 모든 인접국들과 평화롭게 지냈다.

솔로몬이 나라를 다스리는 동안 유다와 이스라엘 사람들은 단에서 브엘세바까지 모두 안전하게 살 수 있었으며 각자 자기 집과 정원에서 편히 쉴 수 있었다.

And Solomon had forty thousand stalls of horses for his chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen.

And those officers provided victual for king Solomon, and for all that came unto king Solomon's table, every man in his month: they lacked nothing.

Barley also and straw for the horses and dromedaries brought they unto the place where the officers were, every man according to his charge.

And God gave Solomon wisdom and understanding exceeding much, and largeness of heart, even as the sand that is on the sea shore.

And Solomon's wisdom excelled the wisdom of all the children of the east country, and all the wisdom of Egypt.

솔로몬에게는 전차를 끄는 말들의 외양간 40,000채와 마병 12,000명이 있었으며

그의 지방 장관들은 각자 자기가 맡은 달에 솔로몬 왕과 그의 궁전을 위해 필요한 양식을 조달하였고

또 왕궁의 말들이 먹을 보리와 짚도 공급하였다.

하나님이 솔로몬에게 굉장한 지혜와 총명을 주시고 바닷가의 모래알처럼 측량할 수 없는 넓은 마음을 주셨으므로

이집트 사람은 물론 동양의 그 어떤 현인도 솔로몬의 지혜를 능가할 사람이 없었다.

For he was wiser than all men; than Ethan the Ezrahite, and Heman, and Chalcol, and Darda, the sons of Mahol: and his fame was in all nations round about.

And he spake three thousand proverbs: and his songs were a thousand and five.

And he spake of trees, from the cedar tree that is in Lebanon even unto the hyssop that springeth out of the wall: he spake also of beasts, and of fowl, and of creeping things, and of fishes.

And there came of all people to hear the wisdom of Solomon, from all kings of the earth, which had heard of his wisdom.

그는 예스라 사람 에단과 마홀의 아들들인 헤만과 갈골과 다르다보다 더 지혜로와서 그의 명성은 모든 이웃 나라에 널리 퍼졌다.

그는 또 3,000개의 금언을 말하였고 1,005편의 노래를 지었으며

레바논의 백향목으로부터 돌담에서 자라는 우슬초에 이르기까지 모든 식물을 논하고 동물과 새와 뱀과 물고기까지 연구한 훌륭한 자연학자였다.

그래서 세상의 모든 왕들이 솔로몬의 소문을 듣고 그의 지혜를 배우려고 사절단을 보냈다.
