- Rebuke not an elder, but intreat him as a father; and the younger men as brethren;
- The elder women as mothers; the younger as sisters, with all purity.
- Honour widows that are widows indeed.
- But if any widow have children or nephews, let them learn first to shew piety at home, and to requite their parents: for that is good and acceptable before God.
- Now she that is a widow indeed, and desolate, trusteth in God, and continueth in supplications and prayers night and day.

- 노인들을 심하게 나무라지 말고 아버지를 대하듯 권면하며 젊은이들을 형제처럼 대하시오.
- 나이 많은 여자들에게는 어머니를 대하듯 하고 젊은 여자들에게는 깨끗한 마음으로 대하시오.
- 의지할 곳 없는 과부들을 잘 보살펴 주시오.
- 만일 어떤 과부에게 자녀나 손자 손녀가 있으면 그들이 먼저 자기 집에서 경건한 생활을 하여 부모의 은혜에 보답하는 법을 배우게 하시오. 이것이 하나님을 기쁘시게 하는 일입니다.
- 홀로 사는 진짜 과부는 하나님께 희망을 두고 밤낮 끊임없이 간구와 기도를 드립니다.

- But she that liveth in pleasure is dead while she liveth.
- And these things give in charge, that they may be blameless.
- But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.
- Let not a widow be taken into the number under threescore years old, having been the wife of one man.
- Well reported of for good works; if she have brought up children, if she have lodged strangers, if she have washed the saints' feet, if she have relieved the afflicted, if she have diligently followed every good work.

- 그러나 세상의 향락에 빠져있는 과부는 살아 있으나 사실 죽은 거나 다름이 없습니다.
- 그대는 이런 것을 가르쳐 그들이 잘못에 빠지지 않게 하시오.
- 누구든지 자기 친척이나 가족을 돌보지 않는 사람은 믿음을 저버린 사람이며 불신자보다 더 나쁩니다.
- 과부로 명부에 올릴 사람은 나이가 60세 이상으로 한 남편의 아내였으며
- 선한 행실로 잘 알려진 사람이어야 합니다. 다시 말해서 자녀를 잘 기르고 나그네를 잘 대접하며 성도들에게 봉사하고 어려움을 겪는 사람들을 도우며 온갖 선한 일에 몸바쳐 일한 사람이어야 합니다.

- But the younger widows refuse: for when they have begun to wax wanton against Christ, they will marry;
- Having damnation, because they have cast off their first faith.
- And withal they learn to be idle, wandering about from house to house; and not only idle, but tattlers also and busybodies, speaking things which they ought not.
- I will therefore that the younger women marry, bear children, guide the house, give none occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully.
- For some are already turned aside after Satan.

- 그러나 젊은 과부들은 명단에 올리지 마시오. 이것은 그들이 정욕에 못 이겨 그리스도를 저버리게 될 때 재혼하기를 바라기 때문입니다.
- 그렇게 해서 그들은 첫 서약을 어기므로 심판을 받게 됩니다.
- 게다가 그들은 언제나 게으름을 피우며 이집 저집 돌아다닙니다. 그들은 게으를 뿐만 아니라 험담이나 하고 남의 일에 끼어들어 해서는 안 될 말을 합니다.
- 그러므로 젊은 과부들은 재혼해서 자녀를 낳고 집안 일을 돌보게 하여 우리 원수에게 비난의 기회를 주지 않게 하시오.
- 이미 믿음을 버리고 사탄을 따라간 과부들도 있습니다.

- If any man or woman that believeth have widows, let them relieve them, and let not the church be charged; that it may relieve them that are widows indeed.
- Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine.
- For the scripture saith, Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth out the corn. And, The labourer is worthy of his reward.
- Against an elder receive not an accusation, but before two or three witnesses.
- Them that sin rebuke before all, that others also may fear.

- 믿는 여자에게 과부 친척이 있거든 직접 도와 주고 교회에 짐을 지우지 않게 하시오. 그래야 교회가 정말 의지할 이 없는 과부들을 도울 수 있습니다.
- 잘 다스리는 장로들을 존경하고 특히 말씀과 가르치는 일에 수고하는 분들을 더욱더 존경하기 바랍니다.
- 성경에도 '곡식을 밟아 떠는 소의 입에 망을 씌우지 말라.' 하였고 또 '일꾼이 자기 품삯을 받는 것이 마땅하다.' 하였습니다.
- 장로에 대한 고소는 두세 사람의 증인이 없으면 받지 마시오.
- 그리고 범죄한 사람들을 모든 사람 앞에서 책망하여 다른 사람에게 경고가 되게 하시오.

- I charge thee before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, and the elect angels, that thou observe these things without preferring one before another, doing nothing by partiality.
- Lay hands suddenly on no man, neither be partaker of other men's sins: keep thyself pure.
- Drink no longer water, but use a little wine for thy stomach's sake and thine often infirmities.
- Some men's sins are open beforehand, going before to judgment; and some men they follow after.
- Likewise also the good works of some are manifest beforehand; and they that are otherwise cannot be hid.

- 나는 하나님과 그리스도 예수님과 선택된 천사들 앞에서 엄숙히 그대에게 명령합니다. 그대는 이것들을 올바로 지키고 어떤 일에나 치우치지 마시오.
- 아무에게나 함부로 안수하지 말고 남의 죄에 끼어들지 말며 자신을 지켜 깨끗한 생활을 하시오.
- 이제부터는 물만 마시지 말고 위장과 자주 앓는 병을 위해 포도주를 조금씩 사용하시오.
- 어떤 사람들의 죄는 명백하게 드러나 먼저 심판을 받게 되지만 다른 사람들의 죄도 곧 드러나게 됩니다.
- 이와 같이 선한 행실도 드러나기 마련이며 그렇지 않은 것도 숨길 수가 없습니다.
