에스겔

앗수르가 신흥 바벨론 제국에 의해 무너져 가는 시기에 부름받은 에스겔은 바벨론의 포로된 백성들에게 완전하고 최종적인 회복을 제시하며 위로하고 있다. 같은 시대의 예레미야가 예루살렘에서 멸망을 선포하는 동안, 에스겔은 현재 이스라엘이 받고 있는 형벌이 개인의 죄로 인한 결과임을 강조하면서 이스라엘이 반드시 회복된다는 희망을 심어 주고 있다.

1장부터 24장까지는 유다와 예루살렘에 대한 하나님의 심판에 대한 경고, 25장부터 32장까지는 이방에 대한 심판 선포, 33장부터 39장에서는 가까운 장래에 이루어질 이스라엘의 회복과 승리에 대한 예언, 그리고 40장부터 48장까지는 먼 미래에 이루어질 메시아 왕국에서 성취될 일을 선포하고 있다.

	에스겔 1:1-3:27 에스겔에게 환상을 보여 주신 하나님께서는 그를 선지자로 부르셔서 바벨론에서 포로 생활을 하는 이스라엘 백성에게 하나님의 말씀을 전하는 사명을 주셨다. 그리고 이 소명을 확증시키기 위해 그에게 두루마리를 받아 먹는 환상을 체험케 하셨다. 뿐만 아니라 하나님께서는 에스겔에게 능력을 주시고 이스라엘 민족의 파수꾼으로 삼으셨다.

	에스겔이 본 환상(1:1-1:28)

Now it came to pass in the thirtieth year, in the fourth month, in the fifth day of the month, as I was among the captives by the river of Chebar, that the heavens were opened, and I saw visions of God.

In the fifth day of the month, which was the fifth year of king Jehoiachin's captivity,

The word of the LORD came expressly unto Ezekiel the priest, the son of Buzi, in the land of the Chaldeans by the river Chebar; and the hand of the LORD was there upon him.

And I looked, and, behold, a whirlwind came out of the north, a great cloud, and a fire infolding itself, and a brightness was about it, and out of the midst thereof as the colour of amber, out of the midst of the fire.

Also out of the midst thereof came the likeness of four living creatures. And this was their appearance; they had the likeness of a man.

내가 서른 살 되던 해에 4월 5일에 바빌로니아의 그발 강가에서 포로들과 함께 있을 때 갑자기 하늘이 열려 나는 하나님이 보여 주시는 환상을 보게 되었다.

이것은 여호야긴왕이 포로로 잡혀간 지 5년째가 되던 해였다.

그 곳 그발 강가에서 부시의 아들인 제사장 나 에스겔에게 여호와께서 특별히 말씀을 주셨는데 그때 나는 여호와의 손길이 내 위에 있는 것을 느꼈다.

나는 환상 중에 북쪽에서 폭풍을 몰고 오는 큰 구름을 보았다. 그 속에서 불이 번쩍번쩍하고 주위에는 찬란한 빛이 비치고 있었으며 그 불 가운데는 벌겋게 달아오른 쇠 같은 것이 보였다.

그리고 그 속에 네 생물 같은 형체가 나타나 있었다. 그 모양은 사람 같으면서도

And every one had four faces, and every one had four wings.

And their feet were straight feet; and the sole of their feet was like the sole of a calf's foot: and they sparkled like the colour of burnished brass.

And they had the hands of a man under their wings on their four sides; and they four had their faces and their wings.

Their wings were joined one to another; they turned not when they went; they went every one straight forward.

As for the likeness of their faces, they four had the face of a man, and the face of a lion, on the right side: and they four had the face of an ox on the left side; they four also had the face of an eagle.

각각 네 얼굴과 네 날개를 갖고 있었고

다리는 곧고 발은 송아지 발처럼 굽이 갈라져 다리 전체가 반질반질 잘 닦은 구리처럼 빛나고 있었다.

또 그 생물들은 각각 네 개의 얼굴과 네 개의 날개 외에도 네 개의 손을 가지고 있었는데 그 손은 사면의 날개 아래에 하나씩 달려 있었다.

그리고 그들의 네 날개는 다 하나로 연결되어 있었으며 그들이 움직일 때는 돌지 않고 곧장 앞으로 나아갔다.

각 생물들은 모양이 다른 네 개의 얼굴을 가지고 있었으며 모두 앞은 사람의 얼굴이었고 우측은 사자의 얼굴, 좌측은 소의 얼굴, 뒤는 독수리의 얼굴이었다.

Thus were their faces: and their wings were stretched upward; two wings of every one were joined one to another, and two covered their bodies.

And they went every one straight forward: whither the spirit was to go, they went; and they turned not when they went.

As for the likeness of the living creatures, their appearance was like burning coals of fire, and like the appearance of lamps: it went up and down among the living creatures; and the fire was bright, and out of the fire went forth lightning.

And the living creatures ran and returned as the appearance of a flash of lightning.

Now as I beheld the living creatures, behold one wheel upon the earth by the living creatures, with his four faces.

그리고 그 생물의 두 날개는 위로 펴져서 그 끝이 서로 연결되어 있었고 나머지 두 날개는 몸을 가리고 있었다.

각 생물들은 사방으로 향하고 있어서 전체가 움직일 때는 돌지 않고 가고 싶은 대로 곧장 갔다.

그리고 그 생물들 사이에는 타오르는 숯불 같기도 하고 횃불 같기도 한 것이 이리저리 계속 움직이고 있었는데 그 불은 아주 밝고 그 속에서는 번개가 치며

그 생물들은 번개처럼 이리저리 빠르게 움직이고 있었다.

내가 그 생물들을 보니 생물들 곁에 네 개의 바퀴가 지면에 닿아 있었는데 그것은 각 생물 곁에 하나씩 있었다.

The appearance of the wheels and their work was like unto the colour of a beryl: and they four had one likeness: and their appearance and their work was as it were a wheel in the middle of a wheel.

When they went, they went upon their four sides: and they turned not when they went.

As for their rings, they were so high that they were dreadful; and their rings were full of eyes round about them four.

And when the living creatures went, the wheels went by them: and when the living creatures were lifted up from the earth, the wheels were lifted up.

Whithersoever the spirit was to go, they went, thither was their spirit to go; and the wheels were lifted up over against them: for the spirit of the living creature was in the wheels.

그 바퀴들은 보석처럼 빛나고 있었고 그 모양과 구조는 다 똑같았으며 바퀴 안에 바퀴가 들어 있는 것 같았다.

그것이 움직일 때에는 아무 방향이라도 원하는 대로 돌지 않고 곧장 갔으며

바퀴 둘레는 높고 무섭게 생겼고 돌아가면서 눈이 가득하였다.

그 생물들이 움직일 때 곁에 있는 바퀴도 움직이고 그 생물들이 땅에서 들릴 때 바퀴도 따라서 들렸다.

그 생물들은 어디든지 자기들이 원하는 곳으로 갔으며 그 생물들이 움직일 때에는 바퀴도 따라서 들렸다. 이것은 생물들이 그 바퀴를 조종하기 때문이었다.

When those went, these went; and when those stood, these stood; and when those were lifted up from the earth, the wheels were lifted up over against them: for the spirit of the living creature was in the wheels.

And the likeness of the firmament upon the heads of the living creature was as the colour of the terrible crystal, stretched forth over their heads above.

And under the firmament were their wings straight, the one toward the other: every one had two, which covered on this side, and every one had two, which covered on that side, their bodies.

And when they went, I heard the noise of their wings, like the noise of great waters, as the voice of the Almighty, the voice of speech, as the noise of an host: when they stood, they let down their wings.

And there was a voice from the firmament that was over their heads, when they stood, and had let down their wings.

그래서 그 생물들이 움직이거나 멈추거나 돌릴 때마다 바퀴도 꼭 그대로 되었다.

그 생물들의 머리 위에는 수정처럼 반짝거리는 둥근 반구 같은 것이 펼쳐져 있었으며 그것은 아주 무섭게 보였다.

그 반구 아래에는 생물들이 두 날개를 서로 향해 펴고 다른 두 날개로 그들의 몸을 가리고 있었다.

그 생물들이 움직일 때 내가 날개에서 나는 소리를 들으니 폭포 소리와도 같고 전능하신 분의 음성과도 같으며 큰 군대의 함성과도 같았다. 그 생물들이 설 때에는 날개를 아래로 내렸다.

그러나 생물들이 멈출 때마다 그 생물들의 머리 위에 있는 반구 모양의 형체 위에서 계속 소리가 났다.

And above the firmament that was over their heads was the likeness of a throne, as the appearance of a sapphire stone: and upon the likeness of the throne was the likeness as the appearance of a man above upon it.

And I saw as the colour of amber, as the appearance of fire round about within it, from the appearance of his loins even upward, and from the appearance of his loins even downward, I saw as it were the appearance of fire, and it had brightness round about.

As the appearance of the bow that is in the cloud in the day of rain, so was the appearance of the brightness round about. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the LORD. And when I saw it, I fell upon my face, and I heard a voice of one that spake.

그 반구 위에는 청옥으로 만든 보좌 같은 것이 있고 보좌 위에는 사람 같은 형체가 있었으며

허리 상반신은 벌겋게 달아오른 쇠 같아서 전체가 불덩어리처럼 보였고 허리 하반신도 불 같아서 사방으로 찬란한 광채가 나고 있었다.

그리고 그 주위에는 비 오는 날 구름 속의 무지개처럼 빛나는 광채가 있었는데 이것은 여호와께서 나타나신 것을 보여 주는 영광의 광채였다. 나는 그것을 보고 엎드려 나에게 말씀하시는 분의 음성을 듣게 되었다.

	에스겔의 소명(2:1-3:27)

And he said unto me, Son of man, stand upon thy feet, and I will speak unto thee.

And the spirit entered into me when he spake unto me, and set me upon my feet, that I heard him that spake unto me.

And he said unto me, Son of man, I send thee to the children of Israel, to a rebellious nation that hath rebelled against me: they and their fathers have transgressed against me, even unto this very day.

For they are impudent children and stiffhearted. I do send thee unto them; and thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD.

And they, whether they will hear, or whether they will forbear, (for they are a rebellious house,) yet shall know that there hath been a prophet among them.

그는 나에게 '사람의 아들아, 일어나거라. 내가 너에게 할 말이 있다.' 하셨다.

그가 말씀하실 때에 하나님의 영이 나에게 들어와서 나를 일으켜 세웠다. 그래서 나는 그가 하시는 말씀을 들었는데

그는 나에게 이렇게 말씀하셨다. '사람의 아들아, 내가 너를 이스라엘 백성, 곧 나를 배반하는 민족에게 보낸다. 그들은 그 조상들처럼 범죄하여 오늘날까지도 나를 거역하고 있다.

그들은 뻔뻔스럽고 고집스런 백성이다. 그래서 내가 너를 그들에게 보낸다. 너는 그들에게 나 주 여호와가 하는 말을 전하라.

그들은 배신한 자들이다. 그들이 네 말을 듣든지 안 듣든지 적어도 그들 가운데 예언자가 있다는 것만은 알게 될 것이다.

And thou, son of man, be not afraid of them, neither be afraid of their words, though briers and thorns be with thee, and thou dost dwell among scorpions: be not afraid of their words, nor be dismayed at their looks, though they be a rebellious house.

And thou shalt speak my words unto them, whether they will hear, or whether they will forbear: for they are most rebellious.

But thou, son of man, hear what I say unto thee; Be not thou rebellious like that rebellious house: open thy mouth, and eat that I give thee.

And when I looked, behold, an hand was sent unto me; and, lo, a roll of a book was therein;

And he spread it before me; and it was written within and without: and there was written therein lamentations, and mourning, and woe.

사람의 아들아, 네가 비록 찔레와 가시에 둘러싸이고 전갈 가운데 살지라도 그들을 두려워하지 말아라. 그들은 배신한 자들이므로 그들이 하는 말을 두려워하거나 그들을 무서워하지 말아라.

그들은 반역하는 자들이다. 듣든지 안듣든지 너는 그들에게 내 말을 전해야 한다.

사람의 아들아, 너는 내 말을 명심하고 그들처럼 반역하지 말아라. 너는 입을 벌리고 내가 너에게 주는 것을 받아 먹어라.'

그때 내가 보니 손 하나가 나를 향해 뻗쳐져 있었고 그 손에는 두루마리책이 쥐어져 있었다.

그가 내 앞에서 그 두루마리를 펼 때 보니 안팎으로 글이 있는데 탄식과 슬픔과 재앙의 말이 기록되어 있었다.

Moreover he said unto me, Son of man, eat that thou findest; eat this roll, and go speak unto the house of Israel.

So I opened my mouth, and he caused me to eat that roll.

And he said unto me, Son of man, cause thy belly to eat, and fill thy bowels with this roll that I give thee. Then did I eat it; and it was in my mouth as honey for sweetness.

And he said unto me, Son of man, go, get thee unto the house of Israel, and speak with my words unto them.

For thou art not sent to a people of a strange speech and of an hard language, but to the house of Israel;

그가 나에게 '사람의 아들아, 너는 네 앞에 있는 것을 먹어라. 너는 이 두루마리를 먹고 가서 이스라엘 백성에게 말하라.' 하셨다.

그래서 내가 입을 벌리자 그가 그 두루마리를 먹으라고 나에게 주셨다.

그리고서 그는 나에게 '사람의 아들아, 너는 내가 너에게 주는 이 두루마리를 먹고 이것을 네 배에 채워라.'' 하고 말씀하셨다. 그래서 내가 그것을 먹었더니 꿀처럼 달았다.

그리고 그는 나에게 이렇게 말씀하셨다. '사람의 아들아, 너는 이스라엘 백성에게 가서 그들에게 내 말을 전하라.

내가 너를 말이 다른 외국 민족에게 보내는 것이 아니라 이스라엘 백성에게 보낸다.

Not to many people of a strange speech and of an hard language, whose words thou canst not understand. Surely, had I sent thee to them, they would have hearkened unto thee.

But the house of Israel will not hearken unto thee; for they will not hearken unto me: for all the house of Israel are impudent and hardhearted.

Behold, I have made thy face strong against their faces, and thy forehead strong against their foreheads.

As an adamant harder than flint have I made thy forehead: fear them not, neither be dismayed at their looks, though they be a rebellious house.

Moreover he said unto me, Son of man, all my words that I shall speak unto thee receive in thine heart, and hear with thine ears.

만일 내가 말이 어려워 알아들을 수 없는 백성에게 너를 보냈다면 그들은 네 말을 들었을 것이다.

그러나 이스라엘 백성은 내 말도 듣지 않았으니 네 말도 듣지 않을 것이다. 그들은 모두 마음이 굳어 버린 고집 센 사람들이다.

그러나 이제 내가 너를 그들만큼 강심장으로 만들고

너를 반석처럼 굳게 하며 금강석처럼 단단하게 하겠다. 그들이 반역하는 백성들이라도 너는 그들을 두려워하거나 무서워하지 말아라.'

그는 또 계속해서 나에게 말씀하셨다. '사람의 아들아, 너는 내가 너에게 한 모든 말을 유심히 듣고 마음에 잘 간직해 두었다가

And go, get thee to them of the captivity, unto the children of thy people, and speak unto them, and tell them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; whether they will hear, or whether they will forbear.

Then the spirit took me up, and I heard behind me a voice of a great rushing, saying, Blessed be the glory of the LORD from his place.

I heard also the noise of the wings of the living creatures that touched one another, and the noise of the wheels over against them, and a noise of a great rushing.

So the spirit lifted me up, and took me away, and I went in bitterness, in the heat of my spirit; but the hand of the LORD was strong upon me.

Then I came to them of the captivity at Telabib, that dwelt by the river of Chebar, and I sat where they sat, and remained there astonished among them seven days.

포로 생활을 하는 네 동족에게 가서 그들이 듣든지 안 듣든지 '이것은 주 여호와께서 하신 말씀이다!' 하고 말하라.'

그때 하나님의 영이 나를 들어올리시는데 내 뒤에서 큰 지진 같은 소리와 함께 '하늘에 계신 여호와의 영광을 찬양하라.'는 말이 들려왔다.

나는 또 생물들의 날개가 서로 부딪히는 소리와 생물 곁에 있는 바퀴가 크게 울리는 소리도 들었다.

주의 영이 나를 들어올려 데리고 가시므로 내가 근심하고 불안해 하자 여호와의 손이 나를 강하게 붙들어 주셨다.

그렇게 해서 나는 그발 강가의 델-아빕으로 갔다. 그 곳은 포로들이 살고 있는 곳이었다. 나는 거기서 정신이 얼떨떨한 채 7일 동안 머물러 있었다.

And it came to pass at the end of seven days, that the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

Son of man, I have made thee a watchman unto the house of Israel: therefore hear the word at my mouth, and give them warning from me.

When I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die; and thou givest him not warning, nor speakest to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life; the same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand.

Yet if thou warn the wicked, and he turn not from his wickedness, nor from his wicked way, he shall die in his iniquity; but thou hast delivered thy soul.

Again, When a righteous man doth turn from his righteousness, and commit iniquity, and I lay a stumbling-block before him, he shall die: because thou hast not given him warning, he shall die in his sin, and his righteousness which he hath done shall not be remembered; but his blood will I require at thine hand.

7일이 지난 다음에 여호와께서 나에게 말씀하셨다.

'사람의 아들아, 내가 너를 이스라엘 민족의 파수꾼으로 세웠다. 너는 내가 하는 말을 듣고 내 말로 그들을 경고하라.

내가 악인에게 '너는 반드시 죽을 것이다.' 하고 말할 때에 네가 만일 그에게 경고하지 않거나 잘 타일러 그를 악한 길에서 돌이켜 그를 살게 하지 않으면 그 악인은 자기 죄로 죽겠지만 나는 그의 죽음에 대한 책임을 너에게 물을 것이다.

그러나 네가 만일 그 악인을 경고하고 타일러도 그가 악한 행실과 죄를 버리지 못하면 그는 자기 죄 때문에 죽을 것이며 너에게는 아무 책임이 없을 것이다.

또 의로운 자가 의를 저버리고 악을 행하면 내가 그 앞에 장애물을 놓을 것이다. 네가 만일 그에게 경고하지 않으면 그는 자기 죄 때문에 죽게 될 것이며 그가 전에 행한 선한 일도 기억되지 않을 것이다. 그리고 나는 그의 죽음에 대한 책임을 너에게 묻겠다.

Nevertheless if thou warn the righteous man, that the righteous sin not, and he doth not sin, he shall surely live, because he is warned; also thou hast delivered thy soul.

And the hand of the LORD was there upon me; and he said unto me, Arise, go forth into the plain, and I will there talk with thee.

Then I arose, and went forth into the plain: and, behold, the glory of the LORD stood there, as the glory which I saw by the river of Chebar: and I fell on my face.

Then the spirit entered into me, and set me upon my feet, and spake with me, and said unto me, Go, shut thyself within thine house.

But thou, O son of man, behold, they shall put bands upon thee, and shall bind thee with them, and thou shalt not go out among them:

그러나 네가 만일 그 의로운 자를 깨우쳐 그가 네 경고를 듣고 범죄하지 않으면 그가 살게 될 뿐만 아니라 너도 네 생명을 보존하게 될 것이다.'

그때 나는 여호와께서 내 위에 계신다는 강한 느낌을 가지게 되었다. 그러자 그가 '일어나 평지로 나아가거라. 내가 거기서 너에게 말하겠다.' 하고 말씀하셨다.

그래서 나는 일어나 평지로 나아갔는데 거기에는 전에 내가 그발 강가에서 본 것과 같은 여호와의 영광의 광채가 머물러 있었다. 내가 땅에 엎드리자

여호와의 영이 나에게 들어와서 나를 일으켜 세우고 나에게 말씀하셨다. '너는 가서 네 집에 들어가 문을 닫아라.

사람들이 너를 줄로 잡아맬 것이니 네가 그들에게서 빠져나오지 못할 것이다.

And I will make thy tongue cleave to the roof of thy mouth, that thou shalt be dumb, and shalt not be to them a reprover: for they are a rebellious house.

But when I speak with thee, I will open thy mouth, and thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; He that heareth, let him hear; and he that forbeareth, let him forbear: for they are a rebellious house.

내가 네 혀를 입천장에 붙게 하고 너를 벙어리가 되게 하여 이 거역하는 백성들을 책망하지 못하게 하겠다.

그러나 내가 너와 말할 때에는 네 입을 열어 주겠다. 너는 그들에게 '주 여호와께서 이렇게 말씀하셨다.' 하고 말하라. 그들은 거역하는 백성이므로 들을 자도 있고 듣지 않을 자도 있을 것이다.'
