- And what shall I more say? for the time would fail me to tell of Gedeon, and of Barak, and of Samson, and of Jephthae; of David also, and Samuel, and of the prophets:
- Who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions.
- Quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, waxed valiant in fight, turned to flight the armies of the aliens.
- Women received their dead raised to life again: and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection:
- And others had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings, yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonment:

- 그 밖에 기드온, 바락, 삼손, 입다, 다윗, 사무엘, 그리고 다른 예언자들에 대하여 하나하나 다 말하자면 끝이 없을 것입니다.
- 그들은 믿음으로 여러 나라를 정복하였고 옳은 일을 하였으며 약속된 것을 받았고 사자들의 입을 막기도 했습니다.
- 또 불 가운데서 구원을 받았고 칼날도 피했으며 약한 사람이 강해지고 싸움터에서 용감하게 외국 군대를 무찌르기도 하였습니다.
- 그리고 어떤 여자들은 죽은 가족을 다시 살아난 상태에서 맞이하기도 하였으며 어떤 사람들은 더 나은 부활을 얻기 위해 고문을 당해도 풀려나기를 거절했습니다.
- 또 어떤 사람들은 조롱을 받고 채찍으로 맞았으며 사슬에 묶여 갇히기도 했습니다.

- They were stoned, they were sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword: they wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins; being destitute, afflicted, tormented;
- (Of whom the world was not worthy:) they wandered in deserts, and in mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth.
- And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise:
- God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect.

- 또한 돌로 맞기도 하고 시험을 당하며 톱으로 몸이 잘리거나 칼날에 죽임을 당하기도 하였습니다. 그리고 양이나 염소의 가죽으로 옷을 삼아 두르고 다녔으며 가난과 고통에 시달리고 온갖 학대를 받았습니다.
- 세상은 그들에게 아무 가치가 없었습니다. 그래서 그들은 광야와 산과 동굴과 땅굴을 찾아다니며 지냈습니다.
- 이 사람들은 모두 믿음으로 여러가지 증거를 받았지만 약속된 것을 받지는 못하였습니다.
- 그것은 하나님께서 우리를 위해 더 좋은 것을 마련하시고 우리와 함께 그들이 완전해지도록 하셨기 때문입니다.
