	다니엘 6:1-7:28 다리오 왕은 다니엘의 민첩함과 총명함을 보고 그를 세워 전국을 다스리게 하였으나, 이를 시기하는 총리들과 방백들의 음모로 다니엘은 사자굴에 던져졌다. 그러나 그는 하나님의 도우심으로 살아났고, 오히려 그를 참소했던 자들과 그의 가족들이 사자굴에 던져져 죽임을 당하였다. 벨사살 원년에 다니엘은 네 종류의 짐승에 관한 환상을 보았다.

	사자굴 속의 다니엘(6:1-6:28)

It pleased Darius to set over the kingdom an hundred and twenty princes, which should be over the whole kingdom;

And over these three presidents; of whom Daniel was first: that the princes might give accounts unto them, and the king should have no damage.

Then this Daniel was preferred above the presidents and princes, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king thought to set him over the whole realm.

Then the presidents and princes sought to find occasion against Daniel concerning the kingdom; but they could find none occasion nor fault; forasmuch as he was faithful, neither was there any error or fault found in him.

Then said these men, We shall not find any occasion against this Daniel, except we find it against him concerning the law of his God.

다리우스는 자기가 원하는 대로 전국을 120도로 나누고 각 도에 도지사를 세웠다

그리고 그는 도지사를 감독하는 총리 세 사람을 세워 도지사가 총리에게 국정보고를 하게 하여 왕이 나라 일을 보는 데 어려움이 없게 하였다. 그 총리 가운데 한 사람이 바로 다니엘이었다.

다니엘은 총명하여 모든 면에 도지사들과 다른 총리들보다 뛰어났으므로 왕은 그에게 나라의 모든 일을 맡길 생각이었다.

그러자 다른 총리들과 도지사들은 다니엘이 국사를 처리하는데 있어서 잘못한 점을 찾아 그를 고발하려고 했으나 다니엘이 자기 일에 충실하고 잘못이나 부정을 저지른 일이 없으므로 그들은 다니엘에게서 아무 흠을 찾지 못하였다.

그래서 그들은 '그의 종교와 관여된 일이 아니면 그에게서 잘못을 찾아 그를 고소할 방법이 없다.' 고 서로 속삭였다.

Then these presidents and princes assembled together to the king, and said thus unto him, King Darius, live for ever.

All the presidents of the kingdom, the governors, and the princes, the counsellors, and the captains, have consulted together to establish a royal statute, and to make a firm decree, that whosoever shall ask a petition of any God or man for thirty days, save of thee, O king, he shall be cast into the den of lions.

Now, O king, establish the decree, and sign the writing, that it be not changed, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which altereth not.

Wherefore king Darius signed the writing and the decree.

Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house; and his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem, he kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did aforetime.

그리고서 그들은 왕에게 가서 이렇게 말하였다. '다리우스왕이시여, 부디 오래오래 사십시오.

나라의 모든 총리와 총독과 도지사와 고문들과 고관들이 모여서 의논한 결과 대왕께서 한 금령을 내려 그것을 법으로 정해 주실 것을 요청하기로 합의했습니다. 그것은 지금부터 30일 동안 누구든지 왕 외에 어느 신에게나 사람에게 기도하는 자를 사자굴에 던져 넣기로 한 것입니다.

그러므로 왕이시여, 이제 금령을 내려 조서에 어인을 찍어서 고칠 수 없는 메디아와 페르시아의 법으로 정하십시오.'

그래서 다리우스왕은 조서에 어인을 찍어 금령을 공포하였다.

다니엘은 그 조서에 어인이 찍힌 것을 알고도 자기 집으로 돌아가 예루살렘을 향해 창문을 열어 둔 자기 다락방에서 전에 항상 하던 대로 하루 세 번씩 무릎을 꿇고 기도하며 그의 하나님께 감사하였다.

Then these men assembled, and found Daniel praying and making supplication before his God.

Then they came near, and spake before the king concerning the king's decree; Hast thou not signed a decree, that every man that shall ask a petition of any God or man within thirty days, save of thee, O king, shall be cast into the den of lions? The king answered and said, The thing is true, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which altereth not.

Then answered they and said before the king, That Daniel, which is of the children of the captivity of Judah, regardeth not thee, O king, nor the decree that thou hast signed, but maketh his petition three times a day.

Then the king, when he heard these words, was sore displeased with himself, and set his heart on Daniel to deliver him: and he laboured till the going down of the sun to deliver him.

Then these men assembled unto the king, and said unto the king, Know, O king, that the law of the Medes and Persians is, That no decree nor statute which the king establisheth may be changed.

다니엘을 모함하려고 하는 자들이 떼를 지어 가서 그가 자기 하나님께 기도하는 것을 보고

왕에게 가서 말하였다. '왕이시여, 대왕께서는 이미 금령에 어인을 찍어서 지금부터 30일 동안 누구든지 왕외에 어느 신에게나 사람에게 기도하면 사자굴에 던져 넣기로 하지 않았습니까?' 그러자 왕이 '그것은 아무도 고칠 수 없는 메디아와 페르시아의 법으로 정한 것이다.' 하고 대답하였다.

그때 그들은 '유다에서 포로로 잡혀온 다니엘이 왕과 왕의 금령을 무시하고 하루 세 번씩 기도하고 있습니다.' 하였다.

왕은 이 말을 듣고 몹시 괴로와하며 다니엘을 구할 방법을 찾으려고 해가 질 때까지 고심하고 있었다.

그때 그들이 다시 왕에게 몰려와 이렇게 말하였다. '왕이시여, 메디아와 페르시아의 법률에 의하면 일단 왕이 공포한 법이나 금령은 고칠 수 없다는 사실을 기억하십시오.'

Then the king commanded, and they brought Daniel, and cast him into the den of lions. Now the king spake and said unto Daniel, Thy God whom thou servest continually, he will deliver thee.

And a stone was brought, and laid upon the mouth of the den; and the king sealed it with his own signet, and with the signet of his lords; that the purpose might not be changed concerning Daniel.

Then the king went to his palace, and passed the night fasting: neither were instruments of musick brought before him: and his sleep went from him.

Then the king arose very early in the morning, and went in haste unto the den of lions.

And when he came to the den, he cried with a lamentable voice unto Daniel: and the king spake and said to Daniel, O Daniel, servant of the living God, is thy God, whom thou servest continually, able to deliver thee from the lions?

그래서 왕은 하는 수 없이 명령을 내리고 말았다. 그러자 그들은 다니엘을 끌어다가 사자굴에 던져 넣었다. 그때 왕은 다니엘에게 '네가 항상 섬기는 네 하나님이 너를 구원하시기 바란다.' 하고 말하였다.

사람들이 돌을 굴려다가 사자굴의 입구를 막았을 때 왕은 어인과 고관들의 인을 쳐서 봉하였다. 이것은 다니엘에 관한 일을 변경할 수 없도록 하기 위해서였다.

그리고서 왕은 궁전으로 돌아가 여느 때의 흥겨운 풍악도 마다하고 밤새도록 아무것도 먹지 않은 채 뜬눈으로 지냈다.

다음 날 왕은 새벽에 일어나 사자굴로 급히 달려가서

걱정스러운 목소리로 다니엘을 부르며 이렇게 말하였다. '살아 계신 하나님의 종 다니엘아, 네가 항상 섬기는 하나님이 너를 사자굴에서 구할 수 있었느냐?'

Then said Daniel unto the king, O king, live for ever.

My God hath sent his angel, and hath shut the lions' mouths, that they have not hurt me: forasmuch as before him innocency was found in me; and also before thee, O king, have I done no hurt.

Then was the king exceedingly glad for him, and commanded that they should take Daniel up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no manner of hurt was found upon him, because he believed in his God.

And the king commanded, and they brought those men which had accused Daniel, and they cast them into the den of lions, them, their children, and their wives; and the lions had the mastery of them, and brake all their bones in pieces or ever they came at the bottom of the den.

Then king Darius wrote unto all people, nations, and languages, that dwell in all the earth; Peace be multiplied unto you.

그때 다니엘이 대답하였다. '왕이시여, 오래오래 사시기 바랍니다.

나의 하나님이 자기 천사를 보내 사자들의 입을 막았으므로 사자들이 나를 해치지 않았습니다. 그분이 이렇게 하신 것은 나에게 죄가 없음을 아셨기 때문입니다. 왕이시여, 나는 또 왕에게도 잘못한 것이 없습니다.'

그러자 왕은 너무 기뻐서 어쩔 줄 모르며 다니엘을 사자굴에서 끌어올리라고 명령하였다. 다니엘이 사자굴에서 올라왔을 때 그 몸이 하나도 상하지 않았다. 이것은 그가 자기 하나님을 신뢰하였기 때문이었다.

그러자 왕은 명령을 내려 다니엘을 고소한 사람들을 끌어 오게 하여 그들을 처자들과 함께 사자굴에 던져 넣게 하였다. 그들이 사자굴 밑바닥에 미처 닿기도 전에 사자들이 달려 들어 그들의 뼈까지 다 부숴 버렸다.

그때 다리우스왕은 그의 제국 안에 있는 모든 나라와 민족들에게 다음과 같은 조서를 내렸다. '모든 나라와 민족들에게 평안이 있기를 바란다.

I make a decree, That in every dominion of my kingdom men tremble and fear before the God of Daniel: for he is the living God, and stedfast for ever, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed, and his dominion shall be even unto the end.

He delivereth and rescueth, and he worketh signs and wonders in heaven and in earth, who hath delivered Daniel from the power of the lions.

So this Daniel prospered in the reign of Darius, and in the reign of Cyrus the Persian.

이제 내가 선언한다. 내 제국 안에 있는 모든 사람들은 다니엘의 하나님을 두려워하며 숭배하라. 그는 살아 계신 하나님이시니 영원히 다스리실 것이며 그의 나라는 망하지 않을 것이요 그의 권세는 무궁할 것이다.

그는 구원도 하시고 건져내기도 하시며 하늘과 땅에서 놀라운 일과 기적을 행하시는 분이시다. 그가 다니엘을 구출하여 사자의 밥이 되지 않게 하셨다.'

이렇게 해서 다니엘은 다리우스왕과 페르시아의 키루스황제 시대에 크게 이름을 떨쳤다.

	다니엘의 첫 환상(7:1-7:28)

In the first year of Belshazzar king of Babylon Daniel had a dream and visions of his head upon his bed: then he wrote the dream, and told the sum of the matters.

Daniel spake and said, I saw in my vision by night, and, behold, the four winds of the heaven strove upon the great sea.

And four great beasts came up from the sea, diverse one from another.

The first was like a lion, and had eagle's wings: I beheld till the wings thereof were plucked, and it was lifted up from the earth, and made stand upon the feet as a man, and a man's heart was given to it.

And behold another beast, a second, like to a bear, and it raised up itself on one side, and it had three ribs in the mouth of it between the teeth of it: and they said thus unto it, Arise, devour much flesh.

바빌로니아의 벨사살왕 원년에 다니엘이 밤에 꿈을 꾸고 환상을 본 내용을 이렇게 기록하였다.

내가 밤에 환상을 보니 사방에서 바람이 큰 바다로 불어닥치더니

그 바다에서 모양이 각각 다른 네 마리의 큰 짐승이 나왔다.

그 첫째 짐승은 사자처럼 생겼으나 독수리의 날개가 있었다. 내가 보는 사이에 그 날개가 뽑히고 그 짐승은 사람처럼 두 발로 땅에 꼿꼿이 섰으며 또 사람의 마음을 받았다.

둘째 짐승은 곰처럼 생겼는데 그것은 앞발을 들고 세 갈빗대를 물고 있었다. 그때 '일어나 많은 고기를 삼켜라.' 하는 음성이 들렸다.

After this I beheld, and lo another, like a leopard, which had upon the back of it four wings of a fowl; the beast had also four heads; and dominion was given to it.

After this I saw in the night visions, and behold a fourth beast, dreadful and terrible, and strong exceedingly; and it had great iron teeth: it devoured and brake in pieces, and stamped the residue with the feet of it: and it was diverse from all the beasts that were before it; and it had ten horns.

I considered the horns, and, behold, there came up among them another little horn, before whom there were three of the first horns plucked up by the roots: and, behold, in this horn were eyes like the eyes of man, and a mouth speaking great things.

I beheld till the thrones were cast down, and the Ancient of days did sit, whose garment was white as snow, and the hair of his head like the pure wool: his throne was like the fiery flame, and his wheels as burning fire.

A fiery stream issued and came forth from before him: thousand thousands ministered unto him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him: the judgment was set, and the books were opened.

그 후에 내가 보는 가운데 세째 짐승이 나타났다. 그것은 표범처럼 생겼으며 그 등에는 새의 날개와 같은 네 날개가 있었다. 그리고 그 짐승은 머리가 네개였으며 다스리는 권세를 받았다.

다음으로 내가 환상 가운데 본 네째 짐승은 두렵고 무섭게 생겼으며 아주 강하게 보였다. 그것은 철 이빨을 가지고 마구 먹고 부수뜨리며 남은 것은 발로 짓밟았다. 이 짐승은 앞서 말한 다른 짐승과 달랐으며 또 열 뿔을 가지고 있었다.

내가 그 뿔을 유심히 보고 있을 때 작은 뿔 하나가 그 사이에서 나오더니 먼저 있던 뿔 가운데 세 개가 그 앞에서 뿌리째 뽑혀 나갔으며 이 작은 뿔에는 사람의 눈과 같은 눈이 있고 또 입이 있어 자랑하며 크게 떠벌리고 있었다.

내가 또 보고 있을 때 왕좌들이 놓이고 영원히 살아 계시는 분이 그의 보좌에 앉으셨다. 그의 옷은 눈처럼 희고 그의 머리털은 깨끗한 양털과 같으며 바퀴가 달린 그 보좌는 불꽃처럼 타올라

그 앞에서 불이 강물처럼 흘러 나왔다. 그리고 그를 섬기는 천사들이 수백만이나 되었고 또 수억의 사람들이 그 앞에 서서 심판을 받기 위해 기다리고 있었으며 법정이 열리고 거기에는 책들이 펴져 있었다.

I beheld then because of the voice of the great words which the horn spake: I beheld even till the beast was slain, and his body destroyed, and given to the burning flame.

As concerning the rest of the beasts, they had their dominion taken away: yet their lives were prolonged for a season and time.

I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him.

And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed.

I Daniel was grieved in my spirit in the midst of my body, and the visions of my head troubled me.

그 작은 뿔이 자랑하며 떠들어대는 소리에 내가 보니 네째 짐승이 죽임을 당하고 그 시체는 절단되어 불 속에 던져졌으며

그 나머지 짐승들은 권세를 빼앗겼으나 일정한 기간 동안 생령만은 살아 남도록 되어 있었다.

내가 또 밤의 환상 가운데 보니 사람처럼 생긴 분이 하늘의 구름을 타고 와서 영원히 살아 계시는 하나님 앞으로 인도되었다.

하나님이 그에게 권세와 영광과 왕권을 주어 세상 모든 나라와 민족들이 그를 섬기게 하셨으므로 그 권세는 영원히 지속될 것이며 그의 나라는 결코 망하지 않을 것이다.

나 다니엘은 그 환상을 보고 몹시 심란하여

I came near unto one of them that stood by, and asked him the truth of all this. So he told me, and made me know the interpretation of the things.

These great beasts, which are four, are four kings, which shall arise out of the earth.

But the saints of the most High shall take the kingdom, and possess the kingdom for ever, even for ever and ever.

Then I would know the truth of the fourth beast, which was diverse from all the others, exceeding dreadful, whose teeth were of iron, and his nails of brass; which devoured, brake in pieces, and stamped the residue with his feet;

And of the ten horns that were in his head, and of the other which came up, and before whom three fell; even of that horn that had eyes, and a mouth that spake very great things, whose look was more stout than his fellows.

그 보좌 곁에 선 한 천사에게 가서 이 모든 것이 무엇을 뜻하는지 물었다. 그러자 그는 그 뜻을 나에게 이렇게 말하였다.

'그 큰 네 짐승은 세상에 일어날 네 왕이다.

그러나 가장 높으신 분의 성도들이 그 나라를 얻어 영원히 소유할 것이다.'

그런 다음 나는 네째 짐승에 대한 뜻을 알고 싶어했는데 그것은 다른 짐승과 달라서 아주 무섭게 생겼으며 철 이빨과 구리 발톱을 가지고 마구 먹고 부수뜨리고 나머지는 발로 짓밟았으며

또 그 머리에는 열 뿔이 있었다. 그리고 다른 한 뿔이 나오자 먼저 있던 세 뿔이 그 앞에서 빠졌으며 새로 나온 그 뿔에는 눈과 입이 있어 크게 자랑하고 다른 짐승과 달라 아주 강하게 보였다.

I beheld, and the same horn made war with the saints, and prevailed against them;

Until the Ancient of days came, and judgment was given to the saints of the most High; and the time came that the saints possessed the kingdom.

Thus he said, The fourth beast shall be the fourth kingdom upon earth, which shall be diverse from all kingdoms, and shall devour the whole earth, and shall tread it down, and break it in pieces.

And the ten horns out of this kingdom are ten kings that shall arise: and another shall rise after them; and he shall be diverse from the first, and he shall subdue three kings.

And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time.

내가 보니 이 뿔이 전쟁을 일으켜 성도들과 싸워 이겼다.

그러자 영원히 살아 계시며 가장 높으신 하나님이 오셔서 자기 백성이 유리한 쪽으로 심판을 선언하셨으며 때가 되자 성도들이 나라를 얻었다.

나에게 설명을 해 주는 천사가 다시 말하였다. '네째 짐승은 앞으로 세상에 나타날 네 번째 나라이다. 이것은 다른 모든 나라와 달라서 온 세상을 삼키고 밟아 부수뜨릴 것이다.

그 열 뿔은 이 나라에서 일어날 열 명의 왕이며 그 외에 또 한 왕이 일어날 것이다. 그는 먼저 있던 왕들과 달라 세 왕을 굴복시킬 것이다.

그가 장차 가장 높으신 하나님을 대적하여 말할 것이며 성도들을 괴롭힐 것이다. 그가 또 때와 법을 변경시키려고 할 것이며 성도들은 3년 반 동안 그의 지배를 받을 것이다.

But the judgment shall sit, and they shall take away his dominion, to consume and to destroy it unto the end.

And the kingdom and dominion, and the greatness of the kingdom under the whole heaven, shall be given to the people of the saints of the most High, whose kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and all dominions shall serve and obey him.

Hitherto is the end of the matter. As for me Daniel, my cogitations much troubled me, and my countenance changed in me: but I kept the matter in my heart.

그러나 심판이 시작되면 그는 권력을 빼앗기고 아주 망해 버릴 것이며

천하의 모든 나라와 권세가 가장 높으신 하나님의 백성에게 주어질 것이다. 그들의 나라는 영원히 지속되고 모든 통치자들이 그들을 섬기며 복종할 것이다.'

이것으로 그 꿈의 해석은 끝났다. 나 다니엘은 얼굴이 창백해질 정도로 몹시 심란하였으나 그 일을 감추고 아무에게도 말하지 않았다.
