- The words of king Lemuel, the prophecy that his mother taught him.
- What, my son? and what, the son of my womb? and what, the son of my vows?
- Give not thy strength unto women, nor thy ways to that which destroyeth kings.
- It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes strong drink:
- Lest they drink, and forget the law, and pervert the judgment of any of the afflicted.

- 이것은 르무엘왕에게 그의 어머니가 일러 준 말씀이다.
- 내 아들아, 내 태에서 난 아들아, 내가 서약으로 얻은 내 아들아,
- 너는 네 정력을 여자들에게 소모하지 말아라. 왕들이 그것 때문에 망한다.
- 르무엘아, 왕은 포도주를 마셔도 안 되고 통치자는 독주를 찾아서도 안 된다.
- 왕이 술을 마시게 되면 법을 잊어버리고 고난당하는 사람들의 인권을 짓밟기 쉽다.

- Give strong drink unto him that is ready to perish, and wine unto those that be of heavy hearts.
- Let him drink, and forget his poverty, and remember his misery no more.
- Open thy mouth for the dumb in the cause of all such as are appointed to destruction.
- Open thy mouth, judge righteously, and plead the cause of the poor and needy.

- 독주는 다 죽게 된 사람에게, 포도주는 고민하는 사람에게 주어라.
- 그러면 그들은 그것을 마시고 그들의 가난과 고통을 잊게 될 것이다.
- 너는 자기 스스로 말할 수 없는 사람들을 대변해 주고 불행한 사람들의 진리를 옹호해 주며
- 입을 열어 공정한 재판을 하고 가난하고 고통당하는 사람들의 억울한 문제를 해결해 주어라.
