- Now Elisabeth's full time came that she should be delivered; and she brought forth a son.
- And her neighbours and her cousins heard how the Lord had shewed great mercy upon her; and they rejoiced with her.
- And it came to pass, that on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child; and they called him Zacharias, after the name of his father.
- And his mother answered and said, Not so; but he shall be called John.
- And they said unto her, There is none of thy kindred that is called by this name.

- 엘리사벳은 해산할 달이 차서, 아들을 낳았다.
- 이웃 사람들과 친척들은, 주님께서 큰 자비를 그에게 베푸셨다는 말을 듣고서, 그와 함께 기뻐하였다.
- 아기가 태어난 지 여드레째 되는 날에, 그들은 아기에게 할례를 행하러 와서, 그의 아버지의 이름을 따서, 그를 사가랴라 하고자 하였다.
- 그러나 아기 어머니가 말하였다. "안 됩니다. 요한이라고 해야 합니다."
- 사람들이 말하였다. "당신의 친척 가운데는 아무도 이런 이름을 가진 사람이 없습니다."

- And they made signs to his father, how he would have him called.
- And he asked for a writing table, and wrote, saying, His name is John. And they marvelled all.
- And his mouth was opened immediately, and his tongue loosed, and he spake, and praised God.
- And fear came on all that dwelt round about them: and all these sayings were noised abroad throughout all the hill country of Judaea.
- And all they that heard them laid them up in their hearts, saying, What manner of child shall this be! And the hand of the Lord was with him.

- 그들은 그 아버지에게 아기의 이름을 무엇으로 하려는지 손짓으로 물어 보았다.
- 그가 서판을 달라 하여 "그의 이름은 요한이다" 하고 쓰니, 모두들 이상히 여겼다.
- 그런데 그의 입이 곧 열리고 혀가 풀려서, 말을 하며 하나님을 찬양하였다.
- 이웃 사람들은 모두 두려워하였다. 이 모든 이야기는 유대 온 산골에 두루 퍼졌다.
- 이 말을 들은 사람들은 모두 이 사실을 그들의 마음에 두고 "이 아기가 대체 어떤 사람이 될 것인가?" 하고 말하였다. 주님의 보살피는 손길이 그 아기와 함께 하시는 것이 분명했기 때문이다.

- And his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Ghost, and prophesied, saying,
- Blessed be the Lord God of Israel; for he hath visited and redeemed his people,
- And hath raised up an horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David;
- As he spake by the mouth of his holy prophets, which have been since the world began:
- That we should be saved from our enemies, and from the hand of all that hate us;

- 요한의 아버지 사가랴가 성령으로 충만하여, 이렇게 예언하였다.
- "주 이스라엘의 하나님은 찬양받으실 분이시다. 그는 자기 백성을 돌보아 속량하시고,
- 우리를 위하여 능력 있는 구원자를 자기의 종 다윗의 집에 일으키셨다.
- 예로부터 자기의 거룩한 예언자들의 입으로 주님께서 말씀하신 대로
- 우리를 원수들에게서 구원하시고, 우리를 미워하는 모든 사람들의 손에서 건져내셨다.

- To perform the mercy promised to our fathers, and to remember his holy covenant;
- The oath which he sware to our father Abraham,
- That he would grant unto us, that we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies might serve him without fear,
- In holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of our life.
- And thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Highest: for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways;

- 주님께서 우리 조상에게 자비를 베푸시고, 자기의 거룩한 언약을 기억하셨다.
- 이것은 주님께서 우리에게 주시려고 우리 조상 아브라함에게 하신 맹세이니,
- 우리를 원수들의 손에서 건져주셔서 두려움이 없이 주님을 섬기게 하시고,
- 우리가 평생 동안 주님 앞에서 거룩하고 의롭게 살아가게 하셨다.
- 아가야, 너는 더없이 높으신 분의 예언자라 불릴 것이니, 주님보다 앞서 가서 그의 길을 예비하고,

- To give knowledge of salvation unto his people by the remission of their sins,
- Through the tender mercy of our God; whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us,
- To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.
- And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, and was in the deserts till the day of his shewing unto Israel.

- 죄 사함을 받아서 구원을 얻는 지식을 그의 백성에게 가르쳐 줄 것이다.
- 이것은 우리 하나님의 자비로운 심정에서 오는 것이다. 그는 해를 하늘 높이 뜨게 하셔서,
- 어둠 속과 죽음의 그늘 아래에 앉아 있는 사람들에게 빛을 비추게 하시고, 우리의 발을 평화의 길로 인도하실 것이다."
- 아기는 자라서, 심령이 굳세어졌다. 그는 이스라엘 백성 앞에 나타나는 날까지 광야에서 살았다.
