	신명기 12:29-14:29 모세는 우상 숭배에 대해 거듭 경고하며 거짓 선지자와 가족, 친구들의 우상 숭배 유혹에 빠지지 말 것과 우상을 숭배하는 성읍을 멸할 것을 명령했다. 그리고 거룩한 백성이 먹을 수 있는 것과 먹을 수 없는 것을 규정하여 성결한 삶을 살 것과 십일조를 드릴 것을 교훈했다. 아울러 그들과 더불어 사는 레위인과 객과 고아와 과부들을 돌아볼 것을 권면했다.

	우상 숭배 금지(12:29-13:18)

When the LORD thy God shall cut off the nations from before thee, whither thou goest to possess them, and thou succeedest them, and dwellest in their land;

Take heed to thyself that thou be not snared by following them, after that they be destroyed from before thee; and that thou enquire not after their gods, saying, How did these nations serve their gods? even so will I do likewise.

Thou shalt not do so unto the LORD thy God: for every abomination to the LORD, which he hateth, have they done unto their gods; for even their sons and their daughters they have burnt in the fire to their gods.

What thing soever I command you, observe to do it: thou shalt not add thereto, nor diminish from it.

"주 당신들의 하나님은 당신들이 들어가서 차지하려는 곳에 사는 민족들을 당신들 앞에서 없애버리실 것이며, 당신들은 그들이 살던 땅을 차지하고, 그 곳에서 살게 될 것입니다.

그들이 당신들 앞에서 멸망한 뒤에, 당신들이 그들의 종교적인 관습을 따르다가 올무에 걸리는 일이 없도록 조심하십시오. '이 민족들이 자기들의 신들을 어떻게 섬겼을까? 나도 한 번 그렇게 해 보았으면 좋겠다' 하면서, 그들의 신들을 섬기는 일이 없도록 하십시오.

당신들은 주 당신들의 하나님을 섬길 때에 이방 민족들이 그들의 신들을 섬기는 방식으로 섬겨서는 안 됩니다. 주님께서는 그들이 신들을 섬길 때에 사용하는 모든 의식을 싫어하시고 역겨워하십니다. 그들은 자기들의 아들이나 딸마저도 불에 살라 신에게 바칩니다.

당신들은 내가 당신들에게 명한 이 모든 것을 지키고, 거기에 한 마디도 더하거나 빼서는 안 됩니다.

If there arise among you a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, and giveth thee a sign or a wonder,

And the sign or the wonder come to pass, whereof he spake unto thee, saying, Let us go after other gods, which thou hast not known, and let us serve them;

Thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams: for the LORD your God proveth you, to know whether ye love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul.

Ye shall walk after the LORD your God, and fear him, and keep his commandments, and obey his voice, and ye shall serve him, and cleave unto him.

And that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams, shall be put to death; because he hath spoken to turn you away from the LORD your God, which brought you out of the land of Egypt, and redeemed you out of the house of bondage, to thrust thee out of the way which the LORD thy God commanded thee to walk in. So shalt thou put the evil away from the midst of thee.

당신들 가운데 예언자나 꿈으로 점치는 사람이 나타나서, 당신들에게 표징과 기적을 일으킬 수 있다고 말하고,

실제로 그 표징과 기적을 그가 말한 대로 일으키면서 말하기를 '너희가 지금까지 알지 못하던 다른 신을 따라가, 그를 섬기자' 하더라도,

당신들은 그 예언자나 꿈으로 점치는 사람의 말을 듣지 마십시오. 이것은 주 당신들의 하나님이, 당신들이 정말 마음을 다하고 정성을 다하여 주 당신들의 하나님을 사랑하는지를 알고자 하셔서, 당신들을 시험해 보시는 것입니다.

당신들은 주 당신들의 하나님만을 따르고 그분만을 경외하며, 그분의 명령을 잘 지키며, 그분의 말씀을 잘 들으십시오. 그분만을 섬기고, 그분에게만 충성을 다하십시오.

예언자나 꿈으로 점치는 자들은 당신들을 미혹하는 자들입니다. 그들은, 이집트 땅에서 당신들을 인도해 내시고 그 종살이하던 집에서 당신들을 속량하여 주신 주 당신들의 하나님을 배반하게 하며, 주 당신들의 하나님이 가라고 명하신 길에서 당신들을 떠나게 하는 자들입니다. 그러므로 그런 자들은 죽여야 합니다. 그렇게 하여서 당신들은 당신들 가운데서 그런 악을 뿌리째 뽑아버려야 합니다.

If thy brother, the son of thy mother, or thy son, or thy daughter, or the wife of thy bosom, or thy friend, which is as thine own soul, entice thee secretly, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which thou hast not known, thou, nor thy fathers;

Namely, of the gods of the people which are round about you, nigh unto thee, or far off from thee, from the one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth;

Thou shalt not consent unto him, nor hearken unto him; neither shall thine eye pity him, neither shalt thou spare, neither shalt thou conceal him:

But thou shalt surely kill him; thine hand shall be first upon him to put him to death, and afterwards the hand of all the people.

And thou shalt stone him with stones, that he die; because he hath sought to thrust thee away from the LORD thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.

당신들의 동복 형제나 아들이나 딸이나 당신들의 품에 안기는 아내나, 당신들이 목숨처럼 아끼는 친구 가운데 누구든지, 당신들에게 은밀히 말하기를 '우리와 우리 조상이 일찍이 알지 못하던 신들에게 가서, 그 신들을 섬기자' 하고 꾀거나,

'우리가 가서, 땅의 이 끝에서 저 끝까지, 사방 원근 각처에 있는 민족들의 신을 섬기자' 하더라도,

그 말에 귀를 기울이지도 말고, 듣지도 말고, 그런 사람을 불쌍하게 여기지도 말며, 가엾게 여기지도 말고, 덮어서 숨겨 줄 생각도 하지 마십시오.

반드시 죽여야 합니다. 증인이 맨 먼저 돌로 치고, 그 다음에 모든 백성이 뒤따라서 돌로 치게 하십시오.

그는 당신들을 꾀어 이집트 땅 종살이하던 집에서 건져내 주신 주 당신들의 하나님으로부터 당신들을 떠나게 하려는 사람이니, 돌로 쳐서 죽여야 합니다.

And all Israel shall hear, and fear, and shall do no more any such wickedness as this is among you.

If thou shalt hear say in one of thy cities, which the LORD thy God hath given thee to dwell there, saying,

Certain men, the children of Belial, are gone out from among you, and have withdrawn the inhabitants of their city, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which ye have not known;

Then shalt thou enquire, and make search, and ask diligently; and, behold, if it be truth, and the thing certain, that such abomination is wrought among you;

Thou shalt surely smite the inhabitants of that city with the edge of the sword, destroying it utterly, and all that is therein, and the cattle thereof, with the edge of the sword.

그러면 온 이스라엘이 그 소식을 듣고 두려워하여, 이런 악한 일을 저지르는 사람이 당신들 가운데서 생기지 않을 것입니다.

주 당신들의 하나님이 당신들에게 살라고 주신 한 성읍에 대하여 당신들에게 소문이 들리기를

당신들 가운데서 불량한 사람들이 나타나서 그 성읍의 주민을 유혹하여 이르기를 '가서 다른 신들을 섬기자' 하면서 당신들이 알지 못하던 신을 섬기게 하여 주민들로 배교자가 되게 하면,

당신들은 그 일을 자세히 조사하고 잘 알아보아서, 당신들 안에서 그런 역겨운 일이 있었다는 것이 사실로 드러나면,

당신들은 그 성읍에 사는 주민을 칼로 쳐서 모두 죽이고, 그 성읍과 그 안에 있는 모든 것과 집짐승도 칼로 쳐서 죽이십시오.

And thou shalt gather all the spoil of it into the midst of the street thereof, and shalt burn with fire the city, and all the spoil thereof every whit, for the LORD thy God: and it shall be an heap for ever; it shall not be built again.

And there shall cleave nought of the cursed thing to thine hand: that the LORD may turn from the fierceness of his anger, and shew thee mercy, and have compassion upon thee, and multiply thee, as he hath sworn unto thy fathers;

When thou shalt hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, to keep all his commandments which I command thee this day, to do that which is right in the eyes of the LORD thy God.

전리품은 모두 거리에 모아 놓고, 온 성읍과 그 전리품을 함께 불살라서, 주 당신들의 하나님께 바치십시오. 그 성읍을 영원한 폐허로 남겨 두고, 다시는 거기에 성읍을 건축하지 마십시오.

당신들은 이 없애버릴 물건에 손을 대지 마십시오. 그래야 주님께서 분노를 푸시고 당신들을 불쌍하게 여기셔서, 당신들의 조상에게 맹세한 대로 자비를 베푸시고, 당신들을 번성하게 하여 주실 것입니다.

당신들이 주 당신들의 하나님의 말씀을 듣고, 오늘 내가 당신들에게 명하는 모든 명령을 지켜, 주 당신들의 하나님 앞에서 정직하게 살면, 주 하나님이 당신들에게 자비를 베푸시고, 당신들을 번성하게 하여 주실 것입니다."

	정한 것과 부정한 것(14:1-14:29)

Ye are the children of the LORD your God: ye shall not cut yourselves, nor make any baldness between your eyes for the dead.

For thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God, and the LORD hath chosen thee to be a peculiar people unto himself, above all the nations that are upon the earth.

Thou shalt not eat any abominable thing.

These are the beasts which ye shall eat: the ox, the sheep, and the goat,

The hart, and the roebuck, and the fallow deer, and the wild goat, and the pygarg, and the wild ox, and the chamois.

"당신들은 주 당신들의 하나님의 자녀이니, 죽은 사람을 애도할 때에 몸에 상처를 내거나 앞머리를 밀어서는 안 됩니다.

당신들은 주 당신들의 하나님의 거룩한 백성입니다. 주님께서 땅 위에 있는 많은 백성 가운데서 당신들을 선택하여, 자기의 귀중한 백성으로 삼으셨습니다."

"당신들은 주님께서 부정하다고 하신 것은 어떤 것도 먹어서는 안 됩니다.

당신들이 먹을 수 있는 짐승은, 소와 양과 염소와

사슴과 노루와 꽃사슴과 들염소와 산염소와 들양과 산양과 같이

And every beast that parteth the hoof, and cleaveth the cleft into two claws, and cheweth the cud among the beasts, that ye shall eat.

Nevertheless these ye shall not eat of them that chew the cud, or of them that divide the cloven hoof; as the camel, and the hare, and the coney: for they chew the cud, but divide not the hoof; therefore they are unclean unto you.

And the swine, because it divideth the hoof, yet cheweth not the cud, it is unclean unto you: ye shall not eat of their flesh, nor touch their dead carcase.

These ye shall eat of all that are in the waters: all that have fins and scales shall ye eat:

And whatsoever hath not fins and scales ye may not eat; it is unclean unto you.

굽이 두 쪽으로 갈라진 쪽발이면서, 새김질도 하는 모든 짐승입니다. 이것들은 당신들이 먹을 수 있습니다.

새김질을 하거나 굽이 두 쪽으로 갈라졌더라도, 다음과 같은 것들은 당신들이 먹지 못합니다. 낙타와 토끼와 오소리와 같은 짐승은, 새김질은 하지만 굽이 갈라지지 않았으므로 당신들에게 부정한 것입니다.

돼지는 굽은 갈라졌지만 새김질을 하지 않으므로 당신들에게 부정한 것입니다. 당신들은 이런 짐승의 고기를 먹어서는 안 되고, 그것들의 주검도 만져서는 안 됩니다.

물에서 사는 모든 것 가운데서 지느러미가 있고 비늘이 있는 물고기는, 무엇이든지 당신들이 먹을 수 있습니다.

그러나 지느러미가 없고 비늘이 없는 것은, 어떤 것이든지 당신들에게 부정한 것이니, 당신들이 먹어서는 안 됩니다.

Of all clean birds ye shall eat.

But these are they of which ye shall not eat: the eagle, and the ossifrage, and the ospray,

And the glede, and the kite, and the vulture after his kind,

And every raven after his kind,

And the owl, and the night hawk, and the cuckow, and the hawk after his kind,

깨끗한 새는 무엇이든지 당신들이 먹을 수 있습니다.

그러나 당신들이 먹지 못하는 새가 있습니다. 그것은, 독수리와 수염수리와 물수리와

매와 붉은소리개와 각종 소리개와

각종 모든 까마귀와

타조와 올빼미와 갈매기와 각종 매와

The little owl, and the great owl, and the swan,

And the pelican, and the gier eagle, and the cormorant,

And the stork, and the heron after her kind, and the lapwing, and the bat.

And every creeping thing that flieth is unclean unto you: they shall not be eaten.

But of all clean fowls ye may eat.

부엉이와 따오기와 백조와

펠리컨과 흰물오리와 가마우지와

고니와 각종 푸른 해오라기와 오디새와 박쥐입니다.

날기도 하고 기어 다니기도 하는 곤충은 당신들에게 부정한 것이니, 먹어서는 안 됩니다.

그러나 깨끗한 날벌레는 당신들이 먹을 수 있습니다.

Ye shall not eat of anything that dieth of itself: thou shalt give it unto the stranger that is in thy gates, that he may eat it; or thou mayest sell it unto an alien: for thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God. Thou shalt not seethe a kid in his mother's milk.

Thou shalt truly tithe all the increase of thy seed, that the field bringeth forth year by year.

And thou shalt eat before the LORD thy God, in the place which he shall choose to place his name there, the tithe of thy corn, of thy wine, and of thine oil, and the firstlings of thy herds and of thy flocks; that thou mayest learn to fear the LORD thy God always.

And if the way be too long for thee, so that thou art not able to carry it; or if the place be too far from thee, which the LORD thy God shall choose to set his name there, when the LORD thy God hath blessed thee:

Then shalt thou turn it into money, and bind up the money in thine hand, and shalt go unto the place which the LORD thy God shall choose:

당신들은 주 당신들의 하나님의 거룩한 백성이므로, 저절로 죽은 것을 먹어서는 안 됩니다. 그런 것은 당신들이 사는 성에 있는 나그네에게 먹으라고 주거나, 이방 사람에게 파십시오. 당신들은 새끼 염소를 제 어미의 젖에 삶지 마십시오."

"당신들은 해마다 밭에서 거둔 소출의 십일조를 드려야 합니다.

당신들은, 곡식과 포도주와 기름의 십일조를, 처음 난 소와 양의 새끼와 함께, 주 당신들의 하나님이 자기의 이름을 두려고 택하신 곳으로 가지고 가서, 주님 앞에서 먹어야 합니다. 이렇게 함으로써 당신들은 주 당신들의 하나님을 두려워하는 것을 배우게 됩니다.

그러나 주 당신들의 하나님이 그의 이름을 두려고 택하신 곳이, 당신들이 있는 곳에서 너무 멀고, 가기가 어려워서, 그것을 가지고 갈 수 없거든,

당신들은 그것을 돈으로 바꿔서, 그 돈을 가지고 주 당신들의 하나님이 택하신 곳으로 가서,

And thou shalt bestow that money for whatsoever thy soul lusteth after, for oxen, or for sheep, or for wine, or for strong drink, or for whatsoever thy soul desireth: and thou shalt eat there before the LORD thy God, and thou shalt rejoice, thou, and thine household,

And the Levite that is within thy gates; thou shalt not forsake him; for he hath no part nor inheritance with thee.

At the end of three years thou shalt bring forth all the tithe of thine increase the same year, and shalt lay it up within thy gates:

And the Levite, (because he hath no part nor inheritance with thee,) and the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, which are within thy gates, shall come, and shall eat and be satisfied; that the LORD thy God may bless thee in all the work of thine hand which thou doest.

그 돈으로 마음에 드는 것을 사십시오. 소든지 양이든지 포도주든지 독한 술이든지, 어떤 것이든지 먹고 싶은 것을 사서, 주 당신들의 하나님 앞에서 당신들과 당신들의 온 가족이 함께 먹으면서 즐거워하십시오.

그러나 성 안에서 당신들과 함께 사는 레위 사람은, 유산도 없고 차지할 몫도 없는 사람들이니, 그들을 저버리지 않도록 하십시오.

당신들은 매 삼 년 끝에 그 해에 난 소출의 십일조를 다 모아서 성 안에 저장하여 두었다가,

당신들이 사는 성 안에, 유산도 없고 차지할 몫도 없는 레위 사람이나 떠돌이나 고아나 과부들이 와서 배불리 먹게 하십시오. 그러면 주 당신들의 하나님은 당신들이 경영하는 모든 일에 복을 내려 주실 것입니다."
