여호수아 6:1-7:26

 가나안 정복 전쟁에 나선 이스라엘이 하나님의 지시대로 여리고 성을 7일 동안 돈 뒤 외치자 성이 무너졌다. 백성들은 라합과 그의 가족을 제외한 모든 사람을 죽이고 은금은 하나님께 바쳤다. 그러나 아간의 범죄로 말미암아 아이 성 공략에 실패하고 말았고, 이에 여호수아는 하나님의 명령에 따라 제비뽑기를 실시하여 아간으로부터 죄를 자백받고 그와 그의 가족을 처형했다.
  
  여리고 점령(6:1-6:27)    
 
  1. Now Jericho was straitly shut up because of the children of Israel: none went out, and none came in.
  2. And the LORD said unto Joshua, See, I have given into thine hand Jericho, and the king thereof, and the mighty men of valour.
  3. And ye shall compass the city, all ye men of war, and go round about the city once. Thus shalt thou do six days.
  4. And seven priests shall bear before the ark seven trumpets of rams' horns: and the seventh day ye shall compass the city seven times, and the priests shall blow with the trumpets.
  5. And it shall come to pass, that when they make a long blast with the ram's horn, and when ye hear the sound of the trumpet, all the people shall shout with a great shout; and the wall of the city shall fall down flat, and the people shall ascend up every man straight before him.
  1. 여리고 성은 이스라엘 자손을 막으려고 굳게 닫혀 있었고, 출입하는 사람이 없었다.
  2. 주님께서 여호수아에게 말씀하셨다. "내가 여리고와 그 왕과 용사들을 너의 손에 붙인다.
  3. 너희 가운데서 전투를 할 수 있는 모든 사람은, 엿새 동안 그 성 주위를 날마다 한 번씩 돌아라.
  4. 제사장 일곱 명을, 숫양 뿔 나팔 일곱 개를 들고 궤 앞에서 걷게 하여라. 이레째 되는 날에, 너희는 제사장들이 나팔을 부는 동안 성을 일곱 번 돌아라.
  5. 제사장들이 숫양 뿔 나팔을 한 번 길게 불면, 백성은 그 나팔 소리를 듣고 모두 큰 함성을 질러라. 그러면 성벽이 무너져 내릴 것이다. 그 때에 백성은 일제히 진격하여라."
  1. And Joshua the son of Nun called the priests, and said unto them, Take up the ark of the covenant, and let seven priests bear seven trumpets of rams' horns before the ark of the LORD.
  2. And he said unto the people, Pass on, and compass the city, and let him that is armed pass on before the ark of the LORD.
  3. And it came to pass, when Joshua had spoken unto the people, that the seven priests bearing the seven trumpets of rams' horns passed on before the LORD, and blew with the trumpets: and the ark of the covenant of the LORD followed them.
  4. And the armed men went before the priests that blew with the trumpets, and the rereward came after the ark, the priests going on, and blowing with the trumpets.
  5. And Joshua had commanded the people, saying, Ye shall not shout, nor make any noise with your voice, neither shall any word proceed out of your mouth, until the day I bid you shout; then shall ye shout.
  1. 눈의 아들 여호수아가 제사장들을 불러서 말하였다. "언약궤를 메고 서시오. 그리고 일곱 제사장은 제각기 일곱 숫양 뿔 나팔을 들고 주님의 궤 앞에 서시오."
  2. 또 그는 백성에게 말하였다. "앞으로 나아가거라! 성을 돌아라! 무장한 선발대는 주님의 궤 앞에 서서 행군하여라!"
  3. 여호수아가 백성에게 명령한 대로, 제각기 숫양 뿔 나팔을 든 일곱 제사장은 주님 앞에서 행군하며 나팔을 불었고, 주님의 언약궤는 그 뒤를 따랐다.
  4. 또한 무장한 선발대는 나팔을 부는 제사장들보다 앞서서 나갔고, 후발대는 궤를 따라갔다. 그 동안 제사장들은 계속하여 나팔을 불었다.
  5. 여호수아가 또 백성에게 명령하였다. "함성을 지르지 말아라. 너희 목소리가 들리지 않게 하여라. 한 마디도 입 밖에 내지 말고 있다가, 내가 너희에게 '외쳐라' 하고 명령할 때에, 큰소리로 외쳐라."
  1. So the ark of the LORD compassed the city, going about it once: and they came into the camp, and lodged in the camp.
  2. And Joshua rose early in the morning, and the priests took up the ark of the LORD.
  3. And seven priests bearing seven trumpets of rams' horns before the ark of the LORD went on continually, and blew with the trumpets: and the armed men went before them; but the rereward came after the ark of the LORD, the priests going on, and blowing with the trumpets.
  4. And the second day they compassed the city once, and returned into the camp: so they did six days.
  5. And it came to pass on the seventh day, that they rose early about the dawning of the day, and compassed the city after the same manner seven times: only on that day they compassed the city seven times.
  1. 이처럼 여호수아는 주님의 궤를 메고 성을 한 바퀴 돌게 한 다음에 진에 돌아와서, 그 밤을 진에서 지내게 하였다.
  2. 다음날 아침에 여호수아가 일찍 일어났다. 제사장들도 다시 주님의 궤를 메었다.
  3. 제각기 숫양 뿔 나팔을 든 일곱 제사장은 주님의 궤 앞에 서서, 계속 행군하며 나팔을 불었고, 무장한 선발대는 그들보다 앞서서 나아갔으며, 후발대는 주님의 궤를 뒤따랐다. 그 동안 제사장들은 계속하여 나팔을 불었다.
  4. 이튿날도 그들은 그 성을 한 바퀴 돌고 진으로 돌아왔다. 그들은 엿새 동안 이렇게 하였다.
  5. 드디어 이렛날이 되었다. 그들은 새벽 동이 트자 일찍 일어나서 전과 같이 성을 돌았는데, 이 날만은 일곱 번을 돌았다.
  1. And it came to pass at the seventh time, when the priests blew with the trumpets, Joshua said unto the people, Shout; for the LORD hath given you the city.
  2. And the city shall be accursed, even it, and all that are therein, to the LORD: only Rahab the harlot shall live, she and all that are with her in the house, because she hid the messengers that we sent.
  3. And ye, in any wise keep yourselves from the accursed thing, lest ye make yourselves accursed, when ye take of the accursed thing, and make the camp of Israel a curse, and trouble it.
  4. But all the silver, and gold, and vessels of brass and iron, are consecrated unto the LORD: they shall come into the treasury of the LORD.
  5. So the people shouted when the priests blew with the trumpets: and it came to pass, when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, and the people shouted with a great shout, that the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city.
  1. 일곱 번째가 되어서, 제사장들이 나팔을 불 때에, 여호수아가 백성에게 이렇게 명령하였다. "큰소리로 외쳐라! 주님께서 너희에게 이 성을 주셨다.
  2. 이 성과 이 안에 있는 모든 것을 전멸시켜서, 그것을 주님께 제물로 바쳐라. 그러나 창녀 라합과 그 여인의 집에 있는 사람은 모두 살려 주어라. 그 여인은 우리가 보낸 정탐꾼들을 숨겨 주었다.
  3. 너희는, 전멸시켜서 바치는 희생제물에 손을 댔다가 스스로 파멸당하는 일이 없도록 주의하여라. 너희가 전멸시켜서 바치는 그 제물을 가지면, 이스라엘 진은 너희 때문에 전멸할 것이다.
  4. 모든 은이나 금, 놋이나 철로 만든 그릇은, 다 주님께 바칠 것이므로 거룩하게 구별하여, 주님의 금고에 넣도록 하여라."
  5. 제사장들이 나팔을 불었다. 그 나팔 소리를 듣고서, 백성이 일제히 큰소리로 외치니, 성벽이 무너져 내렸다. 백성이 일제히 성으로 진격하여 그 성을 점령하였다.
  1. And they utterly destroyed all that was in the city, both man and woman, young and old, and ox, and sheep, and ass, with the edge of the sword.
  2. But Joshua had said unto the two men that had spied out the country, Go into the harlot's house, and bring out thence the woman, and all that she hath, as ye sware unto her.
  3. And the young men that were spies went in, and brought out Rahab, and her father, and her mother, and her brethren, and all that she had; and they brought out all her kindred, and left them without the camp of Israel.
  4. And they burnt the city with fire, and all that was therein: only the silver, and the gold, and the vessels of brass and of iron, they put into the treasury of the house of the LORD.
  5. And Joshua saved Rahab the harlot alive, and her father's household, and all that she had; and she dwelleth in Israel even unto this day; because she hid the messengers, which Joshua sent to spy out Jericho.
  1. 성 안에 있는 사람을, 남자나 여자나 어른이나 아이를 가리지 않고 모두 전멸시켜서 희생제물로 바치고, 소나 양이나 나귀까지도 모조리 칼로 전멸시켜서 희생제물로 바쳤다.
  2. 여호수아는 그 땅을 정탐하러 갔던 두 사람에게 말하였다. "그 창녀의 집으로 들어가서, 너희가 맹세한 대로, 그 여인과 그에게 딸린 모든 사람을 그 곳에서 데리고 나오너라."
  3. 정탐하러 갔던 젊은이들이 가서, 라합과 그의 아버지와 어머니와 오라버니들과 그에게 딸린 모든 사람을 데리고 나왔다. 라합의 식구들을 모두 이끌어 내어, 이스라엘 진 밖으로 데려다 놓았다.
  4. 그리고 그들은 그 성읍과 그 안에 있는 모든 것을 불로 태웠다. 그러나 은이나 금이나 놋이나 철로 만든 그릇만은 주님의 집 금고에 들여 놓았다.
  5. 여호수아는 창녀 라합과 그의 아버지 집과 그에게 딸린 사람을 다 살려 주었다. 라합이 오늘날까지 이스라엘 백성 가운데 살고 있는데, 그것은 여호수아가 여리고를 정탐하도록 보낸 사람들을 그가 숨겨 주었기 때문이다.
  1. And Joshua adjured them at that time, saying, Cursed be the man before the LORD, that riseth up and buildeth this city Jericho: he shall lay the foundation thereof in his firstborn, and in his youngest son shall he set up the gates of it.
  2. So the LORD was with Joshua; and his fame was noised throughout all the country.
  1. 그 때에 여호수아가 이렇게 맹세하였다. "이 여리고 성을 일으켜 다시 세우겠다고 하는 자는, 주님 앞에서 저주를 받을 것이다. 성벽 기초를 놓는 자는 맏아들을 잃을 것이요, 성문을 다는 자는 막내 아들을 잃을 것이다."
  2. 주님께서 여호수아와 함께 계셨으므로 그의 명성이 온 땅에 두루 퍼졌다.
 
  아간의 범죄(7:1-7:26)    
 
  1. But the children of Israel committed a trespass in the accursed thing: for Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took of the accursed thing: and the anger of the LORD was kindled against the children of Israel.
  2. And Joshua sent men from Jericho to Ai, which is beside Bethaven, on the east of Bethel, and spake unto them, saying, Go up and view the country. And the men went up and viewed Ai.
  3. And they returned to Joshua, and said unto him, Let not all the people go up; but let about two or three thousand men go up and smite Ai; and make not all the people to labour thither; for they are but few.
  4. So there went up thither of the people about three thousand men: and they fled before the men of Ai.
  5. And the men of Ai smote of them about thirty and six men: for they chased them from before the gate even unto Shebarim, and smote them in the going down: wherefore the hearts of the people melted, and became as water.
  1. 이스라엘 자손이, 전멸시켜서 주님께 바쳐야 할 물건을 잘못 다루었다. 유다 지파에서, 세라의 증손이요 삽디의 손자요 갈미의 아들인 아간이, 전멸시켜서 주님께 바쳐야 할 물건을 가져 갔기 때문에, 주님께서 이스라엘 자손들에게 진노하셨다.
  2. 여호수아가 여리고에서 베델 동쪽 벳아웬 곁에 있는 아이 성으로 사람들을 보내면서, 그들에게 올라가서 그 땅을 정탐하라고 지시하니, 그 사람들이 올라가서 아이 성을 정탐하였다.
  3. 그들이 여호수아에게 돌아와서 이렇게 말하였다. "모든 백성을 다 올라가게 할 필요가 없을 것 같습니다. 이천 명이나 삼천 명만 올라가도 아이 성을 칠 수 있습니다. 모든 백성이 그 성을 치느라고 다 수고할 필요가 없을 것 같습니다. 성 안에 있는 사람들의 수가 얼마 되지 않습니다."
  4. 백성 가운데서 약 삼천 명이 그리로 올라갔다. 그러나 그들은 도리어 아이 성 사람에게 패하여 도망쳐 왔다.
  5. 아이 성 사람은 이스라엘 사람을 서른여섯 명쯤 죽이고, 성문 앞에서부터 스바림까지 추격하여 비탈길에서 그들을 쳤으므로, 백성의 간담이 서늘해졌다.
  1. And Joshua rent his clothes, and fell to the earth upon his face before the ark of the LORD until the eventide, he and the elders of Israel, and put dust upon their heads.
  2. And Joshua said, Alas, O LORD God, wherefore hast thou at all brought this people over Jordan, to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to destroy us? would to God we had been content, and dwelt on the other side Jordan!
  3. O LORD, what shall I say, when Israel turneth their backs before their enemies!
  4. For the Canaanites and all the inhabitants of the land shall hear of it, and shall environ us round, and cut off our name from the earth: and what wilt thou do unto thy great name?
  5. And the LORD said unto Joshua, Get thee up; wherefore liest thou thus upon thy face?
  1. 여호수아는 슬퍼하면서 옷을 찢고, 주님의 궤 앞에서 얼굴을 땅에 대고 엎드려서 저녁때까지 있었다. 이스라엘의 장로들도 그를 따라 슬픔에 젖어, 머리에 먼지를 뒤집어썼다.
  2. 여호수아가 아뢰었다. "주 하나님, 우리 백성을 요단 강 서쪽으로 잘 건너게 하시고는, 왜 우리를 아모리 사람의 손에 넘기어 멸망시키려 하십니까? 차라리 우리가 요단 강 동쪽에서 그대로 살았더라면 좋을 뻔하였습니다.
  3. 주님, 이스라엘이 원수 앞에서 패하여 되돌아왔으니, 이제 제가 무슨 말을 할 수 있겠습니까?
  4. 가나안 사람과 그 땅에 사는 모든 주민이 이 소식을 듣고 우리를 에워싸고, 이 땅에서 우리의 이름을 없애 버릴 터인데, 주님께서는 주님의 위대한 명성을 어떻게 지키시겠습니까?"
  5. 주님께서 여호수아에게 말씀하셨다. "일어나거라. 어찌하여 이렇게 엎드려 있느냐?
  1. Israel hath sinned, and they have also transgressed my covenant which I commanded them: for they have even taken of the accursed thing, and have also stolen, and dissembled also, and they have put it even among their own stuff.
  2. Therefore the children of Israel could not stand before their enemies, but turned their backs before their enemies, because they were accursed: neither will I be with you any more, except ye destroy the accursed from among you.
  3. Up, sanctify the people, and say, Sanctify yourselves against to morrow: for thus saith the LORD God of Israel, There is an accursed thing in the midst of thee, O Israel: thou canst not stand before thine enemies, until ye take away the accursed thing from among you.
  4. In the morning therefore ye shall be brought according to your tribes: and it shall be, that the tribe which the LORD taketh shall come according to the families thereof; and the family which the LORD shall take shall come by households; and the household which the LORD shall take shall come man by man.
  5. And it shall be, that he that is taken with the accursed thing shall be burnt with fire, he and all that he hath: because he hath transgressed the covenant of the LORD, and because he hath wrought folly in Israel.
  1. 이스라엘이 죄를 지었다. 나와 맺은 언약, 지키라고 명령한 그 언약을 그들이 어겼고, 전멸시켜서 나 주에게 바쳐야 할 물건을 도둑질하여 가져 갔으며, 또한 거짓말을 하면서 그 물건을 자기들의 재산으로 만들었다.
  2. 그래서 이스라엘 자손은 원수를 대적할 수 없었고, 원수 앞에서 패하여 물러섰다. 그들이 자청하여 저주를 불러들여서, 그들 스스로가 전멸시켜야 할 물건이 되었기 때문이다. 너희들 가운데에서 전멸시켜 나 주에게 바쳐야 할 물건을 없애지 아니하면, 내가 다시는 너희와 함께 있지 않겠다.
  3. 일어나서 백성을 성결하게 하여라. 너는 그들에게 말하여라. '너희는 스스로 성결하게 하여, 내일을 맞이할 준비를 하여라. 주 이스라엘의 하나님께서 이렇게 말씀하신다. 이스라엘아, 너희 가운데 전멸시켜서 주님께 바쳐야 할 물건이 있다. 그것을 너희 가운데서 제거하기 전에는, 너희의 원수를 너희가 대적할 수 없다.
  4. 너희는 아침에 지파별로 나오너라. 주님께서 주사위로 뽑으신 지파는 가문별로 가까이 나오고, 주님께서 주사위로 뽑으신 가문은 집안별로 가까이 나오고, 또한 주님께서 주사위로 뽑으신 집안은 장정별로 가까이 나오너라.
  5. 전멸시켜서 주님께 바쳐야 할 물건을 가져 간 사람이 주사위로 뽑히면, 그에게 딸린 모든 것과 함께 그를 불에 태우겠다. 그가 주님의 언약을 어기고, 이스라엘에서 수치스러운 일을 저질렀기 때문이다.'"
  1. So Joshua rose up early in the morning, and brought Israel by their tribes; and the tribe of Judah was taken:
  2. And he brought the family of Judah; and he took the family of the Zarhites: and he brought the family of the Zarhites man by man; and Zabdi was taken:
  3. And he brought his household man by man; and Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, was taken.
  4. And Joshua said unto Achan, My son, give, I pray thee, glory to the LORD God of Israel, and make confession unto him; and tell me now what thou hast done; hide it not from me.
  5. And Achan answered Joshua, and said, Indeed I have sinned against the LORD God of Israel, and thus and thus have I done:
  1. 여호수아가 아침 일찍 일어나서 이스라엘 백성을 그 지파별로 나오게 하였더니, 유다 지파가 뽑혔다.
  2. 유다 지파를 가문별로 나오게 하였더니 세라의 가문이 뽑혔고, 세라의 가문에서 장정들을 나오게 하였더니 삽디가 뽑혔다.
  3. 삽디의 집안의 장정들을 차례대로 나오게 하였더니 유다 지파에서 세라의 증손이요 삽디의 손자요 갈미의 아들인 아간이 뽑혔다.
  4. 여호수아가 아간에게 말하였다. "나의 아들아, 주 이스라엘의 하나님께 영광을 돌리고, 그에게 사실대로 고백하여라. 네가 무엇을 하였는지 숨기지 말고 나에게 말하여라."
  5. 아간이 여호수아에게 대답하였다. "제가 진실로 주 이스라엘의 하나님께 죄를 지었습니다. 제가 저지른 일을 말씀드리겠습니다.
  1. When I saw among the spoils a goodly Babylonish garment, and two hundred shekels of silver, and a wedge of gold of fifty shekels weight, then I coveted them, and took them; and, behold, they are hid in the earth in the midst of my tent, and the silver under it.
  2. So Joshua sent messengers, and they ran unto the tent; and, behold, it was hid in his tent, and the silver under it.
  3. And they took them out of the midst of the tent, and brought them unto Joshua, and unto all the children of Israel, and laid them out before the LORD.
  4. And Joshua, and all Israel with him, took Achan the son of Zerah, and the silver, and the garment, and the wedge of gold, and his sons, and his daughters, and his oxen, and his asses, and his sheep, and his tent, and all that he had: and they brought them unto the valley of Achor.
  5. And Joshua said, Why hast thou troubled us? the LORD shall trouble thee this day. And all Israel stoned him with stones, and burned them with fire, after they had stoned them with stones.
  1. 제가, 전리품 가운데에서, 시날에서 만든 아름다운 외투 한 벌과 은 이백 세겔과 오십 세겔이 나가는 금덩이 하나를 보고, 탐이 나서 가졌습니다. 보십시오, 그 물건들을 저의 장막 안 땅 속에 감추어 두었는데, 은을 맨 밑에 두었습니다."
  2. 여호수아가 사람들을 그리로 보냈다. 그들이 장막으로 달려가 보니, 물건이 그 장막 안에 감추어져 있고, 은이 그 밑에 있었다.
  3. 그들은 그것을 그 장막 가운데서 파내어, 여호수아와 모든 이스라엘 자손이 있는 데로 가져 와서, 주님 앞에 펼쳐 놓았다.
  4. 여호수아는, 세라의 아들 아간과 그 은과 외투와 금덩이와 그 아들들과 딸들과 소들과 나귀들과 양들과 장막과 그에게 딸린 모든 것을 이끌고 아골 골짜기로 갔으며, 온 이스라엘 백성도 그와 함께 갔다.
  5. 여호수아가 말하였다. "너는 어찌하여 우리를 괴롭게 하느냐? 오늘 주님께서 너를 괴롭히실 것이다." 그러자 온 이스라엘 백성이 그를 돌로 쳐서 죽이고, 남은 가족과 재산도 모두 돌로 치고 불살랐다.
  1. And they raised over him a great heap of stones unto this day. So the LORD turned from the fierceness of his anger. Wherefore the name of that place was called, The valley of Achor, unto this day.
  1. 그들은 그 위에 큰 돌무더기를 쌓았는데, 그것이 오늘까지 있다. 이렇게 하고 나서야 주님께서 맹렬한 진노를 거두셨다. 그래서 그 곳 이름을 오늘까지도 아골 골짜기라고 부른다.
