사무엘하 17:15-18:33

 후새의 도움으로 다윗은 무사히 위기를 벗어나 마하나임으로 도피했다. 그러나 끝까지 추격하는 압살롬과 에브라임 숲에서 일대 격전을 벌일 수밖에 없었다. 결국 압살롬은 요압에 의해 비참하게 죽고, 이를 전해 들은 다윗은 매우 슬퍼하였다.
  
  다윗의 피신(17:15-17:29)    
 
  1. Then said Hushai unto Zadok and to Abiathar the priests, Thus and thus did Ahithophel counsel Absalom and the elders of Israel; and thus and thus have I counselled.
  2. Now therefore send quickly, and tell David, saying, Lodge not this night in the plains of the wilderness, but speedily pass over; lest the king be swallowed up, and all the people that are with him.
  3. Now Jonathan and Ahimaaz stayed by Enrogel; for they might not be seen to come into the city: and a wench went and told them; and they went and told king David.
  4. Nevertheless a lad saw them, and told Absalom: but they went both of them away quickly, and came to a man's house in Bahurim, which had a well in his court; whither they went down.
  5. And the woman took and spread a covering over the well's mouth, and spread ground corn thereon; and the thing was not known.
  1. 후새는 곧 사독 제사장과 아비아달 제사장에게, 아히도벨이 압살롬과 이스라엘의 장로들에게 어떤 모략을 베풀었는지, 그리고 자기가 또 어떤 모략을 베풀었는지를 알리고서,
  2. 다음과 같이 말하였다. "이제 빨리 다윗 왕께 사람을 보내서, 오늘 밤을 광야의 나루터에서 묵지 마시고, 빨리 강을 건너가시라고 전하십시오. 그렇지 않으면, 임금님만이 아니라, 임금님과 함께 있는 백성까지 모두 전멸을 당할 것입니다."
  3. 한편, 아비아달의 아들 요나단과 사독의 아들 아히마아스는, 예루살렘 바깥의 엔 로겔 샘터에서 대기하고 있었다. 그들은 사람들의 눈에 뜨이지 않으려고 성 안으로 드나드는 것을 삼갔다. 거기에 있다가, 여종이 그들에게 가서 소식을 전하여 주면, 그들이 그 소식을 받아서 직접 다윗 왕에게 전하곤 하였다.
  4. 그런데 그만 한 젊은이가 그들을 보고서, 압살롬에게 가서 일러 바쳤다. 탄로가 난 줄을 알고서, 그 두 사람은 재빨리 그 곳을 떠나 바후림 마을로 가서, 어떤 사람의 집으로 들어갔다. 그 집 마당에는 우물이 있었는데, 그들은 그 속으로 내려갔다.
  5. 그 집 여인은, 덮을 것을 가져다가 우물 아귀에 펴 놓고, 그 위에 찧은 보리를 널어놓아서, 아무도 눈치를 채지 못하게 하였다.
  1. And when Absalom's servants came to the woman to the house, they said, Where is Ahimaaz and Jonathan? And the woman said unto them, They be gone over the brook of water. And when they had sought and could not find them, they returned to Jerusalem.
  2. And it came to pass, after they were departed, that they came up out of the well, and went and told king David, and said unto David, Arise, and pass quickly over the water: for thus hath Ahithophel counselled against you.
  3. Then David arose, and all the people that were with him, and they passed over Jordan: by the morning light there lacked not one of them that was not gone over Jordan.
  4. And when Ahithophel saw that his counsel was not followed, he saddled his ass, and arose, and gat him home to his house, to his city, and put his household in order, and hanged himself, and died, and was buried in the sepulchre of his father.
  5. Then David came to Mahanaim. And Absalom passed over Jordan, he and all the men of Israel with him.
  1. 압살롬의 종들이 그 집으로 들어와서 그 여인에게 물었다. "아히마아스와 요나단이 어디에 있느냐?" 그 여인이 그들에게 대답하였다. "그들은 방금 저 강을 건너갔습니다." 그들이 뒤쫓아 갔으나, 찾지 못하고 예루살렘으로 돌아갔다.
  2. 그들이 돌아간 뒤에, 그 두 사람이 우물 속에서 올라와, 다윗 왕에게 가서, 이 소식을 전하였다. 그들은 다윗에게, 아히도벨이 다윗 일행을 해치려고 어떤 계획을 세웠는지를 알리고, 어서 일어나서 강을 건너가라고 재촉하였다.
  3. 그러자 다윗이 자기와 함께 있는 온 백성을 거느리고 거기에서 떠나, 요단 강을 건너갔는데, 날이 샐 때까지 요단 강을 건너지 못한 사람은 하나도 없었다.
  4. 아히도벨은 자기의 모략대로 이루어지지 않는 것을 보자, 나귀에 안장을 지워서 타고 거기에서 떠나, 자기의 고향 집으로 돌아갔다. 거기에서 그는 집안 일을 정리한 뒤에, 목을 매어서 죽었다. 그는 이렇게 죽어서, 자기 아버지의 무덤에 묻혔다.
  5. 다윗이 마하나임에 이르렀을 때에야, 압살롬이 비로소 이스라엘의 온 군대를 직접 거느리고 요단 강을 건넜다.
  1. And Absalom made Amasa captain of the host instead of Joab: which Amasa was a man's son, whose name was Ithra an Israelite, that went in to Abigail the daughter of Nahash, sister to Zeruiah Joab's mother.
  2. So Israel and Absalom pitched in the land of Gilead.
  3. And it came to pass, when David was come to Mahanaim, that Shobi the son of Nahash of Rabbah of the children of Ammon, and Machir the son of Ammiel of Lodebar, and Barzillai the Gileadite of Rogelim,
  4. Brought beds, and basons, and earthen vessels, and wheat, and barley, and flour, and parched corn, and beans, and lentiles, and parched pulse,
  5. And honey, and butter, and sheep, and cheese of kine, for David, and for the people that were with him, to eat: for they said, The people is hungry, and weary, and thirsty, in the wilderness.
  1. 압살롬은 요압 대신에 아마사를 군지휘관으로 세웠는데, 아마사는 이드라라는 이스마엘 사람의 아들이다. 이드라는 나하스의 딸 아비갈과 결혼하여 아마사를 낳았는데, 아비갈은 요압의 어머니 스루야의 여동생이다.
  2. 이렇게 온 이스라엘과 압살롬이 길르앗 땅에 진을 쳤다.
  3. 다윗이 마하나임에 다다르니, 암몬 족속의 도성 랍바에서 나하스의 아들 소비가 찾아오고, 로데발에서는 암미엘의 아들 마길이 찾아오고, 로글림에서는 길르앗 사람 바르실래가 찾아왔다.
  4. 그들이 침대와 이부자리와 대야와 질그릇도 가지고 오고, 밀과 보리와 밀가루와 볶은 곡식과 콩과 팥과 볶은 씨도 가지고 왔다.
  5. 그들은, 그 많은 사람이 광야에서 굶주리고 지치고 목말랐을 것이라고 생각하고서, 꿀과 버터와 양고기와 치즈도 가져다가 다윗과 그를 따르는 사람들에게 주었다.
 
  압살롬의 죽음(18:1-18:33)    
 
  1. And David numbered the people that were with him, and set captains of thousands, and captains of hundreds over them.
  2. And David sent forth a third part of the people under the hand of Joab, and a third part under the hand of Abishai the son of Zeruiah, Joab's brother, and a third part under the hand of Ittai the Gittite. And the king said unto the people, I will surely go forth with you myself also.
  3. But the people answered, Thou shalt not go forth: for if we flee away, they will not care for us; neither if half of us die, will they care for us: but now thou art worth ten thousand of us: therefore now it is better that thou succour us out of the city.
  4. And the king said unto them, What seemeth you best I will do. And the king stood by the gate side, and all the people came out by hundreds and by thousands.
  5. And the king commanded Joab and Abishai and Ittai, saying, Deal gently for my sake with the young man, even with Absalom. And all the people heard when the king gave all the captains charge concerning Absalom.
  1. 다윗은 자기와 함께 있는 백성을 점검하여 보고, 그들 위에 천부장들과 백부장들을 세웠다.
  2. 다윗은 또 모든 백성을 세 떼로 나눈 뒤에, 삼분의 일은 요압에게 맡기고, 또 삼분의 일은 스루야의 아들이며 요압의 동생인 아비새에게 맡기고, 나머지 삼분의 일은 가드 사람 잇대에게 맡겼다. 그런 다음에 왕이 온 백성에게 자기도 그들과 함께 싸움터로 나가겠다고 선언하니,
  3. 온 백성이 외쳤다. "임금님께서 나가시면 안 됩니다. 우리가 도망을 친다 하여도, 그들이 우리에게는 마음을 두지 않을 것이며, 우리가 절반이나 죽는다 하여도, 그들은 우리에게 마음을 두지 않을 것입니다. 임금님은 우리들 만 명과 다름이 없으십니다. 그러니 임금님은 이제 성 안에 계시면서, 우리를 도우시는 것이 더 좋겠습니다."
  4. 그러자 왕은 그들의 의견을 따르겠다고 말하고 성문 곁에 서 있으니, 온 백성이 백 명씩, 천 명씩, 부대별로 나아갔다.
  5. 그 때에 왕이 요압과 아비새와 잇대에게 부탁하였다. "나를 생각해서라도, 저 어린 압살롬을 너그럽게 대하여 주시오." 왕이 압살롬을 너그럽게 대하여 달라고 모든 지휘관에게 부탁하는 말을, 온 백성이 다 들었다.
  1. So the people went out into the field against Israel: and the battle was in the wood of Ephraim;
  2. Where the people of Israel were slain before the servants of David, and there was there a great slaughter that day of twenty thousand men.
  3. For the battle was there scattered over the face of all the country: and the wood devoured more people that day than the sword devoured.
  4. And Absalom met the servants of David. And Absalom rode upon a mule, and the mule went under the thick boughs of a great oak, and his head caught hold of the oak, and he was taken up between the heaven and the earth; and the mule that was under him went away.
  5. And a certain man saw it, and told Joab, and said, Behold, I saw Absalom hanged in an oak.
  1. 다윗의 군대가 이스라엘 사람과 싸우려고 들녘으로 나아가서, 에브라임 숲 속에서 싸움을 하였다.
  2. 거기에서 이스라엘 백성이 다윗의 부하들에게 패하였는데, 그들은 그 날 거기에서 크게 패하여서, 이만 명이나 죽었다.
  3. 싸움이 온 땅 사방으로 번져 나가자, 그 날 숲 속에서 목숨을 잃은 군인이 칼에 찔려서 죽은 군인보다 더 많았다.
  4. 압살롬이 어쩌다가 다윗의 부하들과 마주쳤다. 압살롬은 노새를 타고 있었는데, 그 노새가 큰 상수리나무의 울창한 가지 밑으로 달려갈 때에, 그의 머리채가 상수리나무에 휘감기는 바람에, 그는 공중에 매달리고, 그가 타고 가던 노새는 빠져나갔다.
  5. 어떤 사람이 이것을 보고서, 요압에게 알려 주었다. "압살롬이 상수리나무에 매달려 있습니다."
  1. And Joab said unto the man that told him, And, behold, thou sawest him, and why didst thou not smite him there to the ground? and I would have given thee ten shekels of silver, and a girdle.
  2. And the man said unto Joab, Though I should receive a thousand shekels of silver in mine hand, yet would I not put forth mine hand against the king's son: for in our hearing the king charged thee and Abishai and Ittai, saying, Beware that none touch the young man Absalom.
  3. Otherwise I should have wrought falsehood against mine own life: for there is no matter hid from the king, and thou thyself wouldest have set thyself against me.
  4. Then said Joab, I may not tarry thus with thee. And he took three darts in his hand, and thrust them through the heart of Absalom, while he was yet alive in the midst of the oak.
  5. And ten young men that bare Joab's armour compassed about and smote Absalom, and slew him.
  1. 요압이 자기에게 소식을 전하여 준 그 사람에게 물었다. "네가 그를 보았는데도, 왜 그를 당장에 쳐서 땅에 쓰러뜨리지 않았느냐? 그랬더라면, 내가 너에게 은 열 개와 띠 하나를 주었을 것이다."
  2. 그 사람이 요압에게 대답하였다. "비록 은 천 개를 달아서 저의 손에 쥐어 주신다고 하여도, 저는 감히 손을 들어 임금님의 아들을 치지 않을 것입니다. 임금님께서 우리 모두가 듣도록, 장군님과 아비새와 잇대에게, 누구든지 어린 압살롬을 보호하여 달라고 부탁하셨기 때문입니다.
  3. 제가 임금님을 속이고, 그의 생명을 해치면, 임금님 앞에서는 아무 일도 숨길 수가 없기 때문에, 장군님까지도 저에게서 등을 돌릴 것입니다."
  4. 그러자 요압은 "너하고 이렇게 꾸물거릴 시간이 없다" 하고 말한 뒤에, 투창 세 자루를 손에 들고 가서, 아직도 상수리나무의 한가운데 산 채로 매달려 있는 압살롬의 심장을 꿰뚫었다.
  5. 요압의 무기를 들고 다니는 젊은이 열 명도 모두 둘러싸고서, 압살롬을 쳐서 죽였다.
  1. And Joab blew the trumpet, and the people returned from pursuing after Israel: for Joab held back the people.
  2. And they took Absalom, and cast him into a great pit in the wood, and laid a very great heap of stones upon him: and all Israel fled every one to his tent.
  3. Now Absalom in his lifetime had taken and reared up for himself a pillar, which is in the king's dale: for he said, I have no son to keep my name in remembrance: and he called the pillar after his own name: and it is called unto this day, Absalom's place.
  4. Then said Ahimaaz the son of Zadok, Let me now run, and bear the king tidings, how that the LORD hath avenged him of his enemies.
  5. And Joab said unto him, Thou shalt not bear tidings this day, but thou shalt bear tidings another day: but this day thou shalt bear no tidings, because the king's son is dead.
  1. 그런 다음에 요압이 나팔을 부니, 백성이 이스라엘 사람을 뒤쫓다가 돌아왔다. 요압이 백성에게 싸움을 그치게 하였기 때문이다.
  2. 그들은 압살롬을 들어다가 숲 속의 깊은 구덩이에 집어던지고, 그 위에다가 아주 큰 돌무더기를 쌓았다. 온 이스라엘 사람들은 도망하여서, 저마다 자기 장막으로 돌아갔다.
  3. 평소에 압살롬은, 자기의 이름을 후대에 남길 아들이 없다고 생각하여, 살아 있을 때에 이미 자기 비석을 준비하여 세웠는데, 그것이 지금 '왕의 골짜기'에 있다. 압살롬이 그 돌기둥을 자기의 이름을 따서 불렀기 때문에, 사람들은 그것을 오늘날까지도 '압살롬의 비석'이라고 한다.
  4. 그 때에 사독의 아들 아히마아스가 요압에게 말하였다. "제가 임금님에게로 달려가서, 주님께서 임금님을 원수에게서 구원하셨다는 이 기쁜 소식을 전하겠습니다."
  5. 그러나 요압이 말렸다. "오늘은 아무리 좋은 소식이라도, 네가 전하여서는 안 된다. 너는 다른 날 이 좋은 소식을 전하여도 된다. 그러나 오늘은 날이 아니다. 오늘은 임금님의 아들이 죽은 날이다."
  1. Then said Joab to Cushi, Go tell the king what thou hast seen. And Cushi bowed himself unto Joab, and ran.
  2. Then said Ahimaaz the son of Zadok yet again to Joab, But howsoever, let me, I pray thee, also run after Cushi. And Joab said, Wherefore wilt thou run, my son, seeing that thou hast no tidings ready?
  3. But howsoever, said he, let me run. And he said unto him, Run. Then Ahimaaz ran by the way of the plain, and overran Cushi.
  4. And David sat between the two gates: and the watchman went up to the roof over the gate unto the wall, and lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold a man running alone.
  5. And the watchman cried, and told the king. And the king said, If he be alone, there is tidings in his mouth. And he came apace, and drew near.
  1. 그리고는, 요압이 에티오피아 사람에게 명령하였다. "네가 가서, 본 대로 임금님께 아뢰어라." 그러자 그 에티오피아 사람이 요압에게 절을 하고 달려갔다.
  2. 사독의 아들 아히마아스가 또다시 요압에게 말하였다. "저에게 무슨 일이 일어나도 좋으니, 저도 저 에티오피아 사람과 같이 가서 보고할 수 있도록 허락하여 주십시오." 그러나 요압은 또 말렸다. "아히마아스야, 네가 왜 가려고 하는지 모르겠구나. 네가 가 보아야, 이 소식으로는 아무 상도 받지 못한다."
  3. 아히마아스가 또다시 말하였다. "저에게 무슨 일이 일어나도 좋으니, 저도 가겠습니다." 요압이 그에게 말하였다. "그렇다면, 더 말리지 않겠다." 아히마아스는 요단 계곡을 지나는 길로 달려서, 그 에티오피아 사람을 앞질렀다.
  4. 그 때에, 다윗은 두 성문 곧 안문과 바깥문 사이에 앉아 있었는데, 파수꾼이 성문의 지붕 위로 올라가서, 성벽 위에서 멀리 바라보고 있다가, 어떤 사람이 혼자 달려오는 것을 보았다.
  5. 파수꾼이 큰소리로 이 사실을 왕에게 알리니, 왕은 "혼자 오는 사람이면 좋은 소식을 전하는 사람이다" 하고 대답하였다. 그 사람이 점점 더 가까이에 이르렀다.
  1. And the watchman saw another man running: and the watchman called unto the porter, and said, Behold another man running alone. And the king said, He also bringeth tidings.
  2. And the watchman said, Me thinketh the running of the foremost is like the running of Ahimaaz the son of Zadok. And the king said, He is a good man, and cometh with good tidings.
  3. And Ahimaaz called, and said unto the king, All is well. And he fell down to the earth upon his face before the king, and said, Blessed be the LORD thy God, which hath delivered up the men that lifted up their hand against my lord the king.
  4. And the king said, Is the young man Absalom safe? And Ahimaaz answered, When Joab sent the king's servant, and me thy servant, I saw a great tumult, but I knew not what it was.
  5. And the king said unto him, Turn aside, and stand here. And he turned aside, and stood still.
  1. 파수꾼이 보니, 또 한 사람이 달려오고 있었다. 파수꾼이 큰소리로 문지기에게 "또 한 사람이 달려온다" 하고 외치니, 왕은 "그도 좋은 소식을 전하는 사람이다" 하고 말하였다.
  2. 파수꾼이 또 알렸다. "제가 보기에, 앞서서 오는 사람은 달리는 것이, 사독의 아들 아히마아스가 달리는 것과 같습니다." 그러자 왕이 대답하였다. "그는 좋은 사람이니, 좋은 소식을 전하러 올 것이다."
  3. 아히마아스가 왕에게 가까이 이르러서 "평안하시기를 빕니다" 하고 인사를 드리며, 얼굴이 땅에 닿도록 왕에게 절을 하며 아뢰었다. "높으신 임금님께 반역한 자들을 없애 버리시고, 임금님께 승리를 안겨 주신, 임금님의 주 하나님을 찬양합니다."
  4. 왕이 "그 어린 압살롬도 평안하더냐?" 하고 물으니, 아히마아스는 "임금님의 신하 요압이 이 종을 보낼 때에, 큰 소동이 있었습니다마는, 무슨 일인지는 모르겠습니다."
  5. 왕이 "물러나서 곁에 서 있어라" 하고 말하니, 그는 곁으로 물러나서 서 있었다.
  1. And, behold, Cushi came; and Cushi said, Tidings, my lord the king: for the LORD hath avenged thee this day of all them that rose up against thee.
  2. And the king said unto Cushi, Is the young man Absalom safe? And Cushi answered, The enemies of my lord the king, and all that rise against thee to do thee hurt, be as that young man is.
  3. And the king was much moved, and went up to the chamber over the gate, and wept: and as he went, thus he said, O my son Absalom, my son, my son Absalom! would God I had died for thee, O Absalom, my son, my son!
  1. 바로 그 때에 그 에티오피아 사람이 들어왔다. 에티오피아 사람이 왕에게 아뢰었다. "높으신 임금님께 기쁜 소식을 가져 왔습니다. 주님께서 오늘 임금님께 반역한 자들을 없애 버리시고, 임금님께 승리를 안겨 주셨습니다."
  2. 왕이 에티오피아 사람에게 물었다. "그 어린 압살롬이 평안하더냐?" 에티오피아 사람이 대답하였다. "높으신 임금님의 원수들을 비롯하여, 임금님께 반역한 자들이 모조리 그 젊은이와 같이 되기를 바랍니다."
  3. 왕은 이 말을 듣고, 마음이 찢어질 듯이 아파서, 성문 위의 다락방으로 올라가서 울었다. 그는 올라갈 때에 "내 아들 압살롬아, 내 아들아, 내 아들 압살롬아, 너 대신에 차라리 내가 죽을 것을, 압살롬아, 내 아들아, 내 아들아!" 하고 울부짖었다.
