- Paul, a servant of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God's elect, and the acknowledging of the truth which is after godliness;
- In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;
- But hath in due times manifested his word through preaching, which is committed unto me according to the commandment of God our Saviour;
- To Titus, mine own son after the common faith: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ our Saviour.
- For this cause left I thee in Crete, that thou shouldest set in order the things that are wanting, and ordain elders in every city, as I had appointed thee:

- 하나님의 종이요 예수 그리스도의 사도인 나 바울은, 하나님의 택하심을 받은 사람들의 믿음을 일깨워 주고 경건함에 딸린 진리의 지식을 깨우쳐 주기 위하여, 사도가 되었습니다.
- 나는 거짓이 없으신 하나님께서 영원 전부터 약속해 두신 영생에 대한 소망을 품고 있습니다.
- 하나님께서는 제 때가 되었을 때에 하나님의 이 약속의 말씀을 사도들의 선포를 통하여 드러내셨습니다. 나는 우리의 구주이신 하나님의 명령을 따라 이것을 선포하는 임무를 맡았습니다.
- 나는, 같은 믿음을 따라 진실한 아들이 된 디도에게 이 편지를 씁니다. 하나님 아버지와 우리 구주 예수 그리스도께서 내려주시는 은혜와 평화가 그대에게 있기를 빕니다.
- 내가 그대를 크레타에 남겨둔 것은, 남은 일들을 정리하고, 내가 지시한 대로, 성읍마다 장로들을 세우게 하려는 것입니다.

- If any be blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of riot or unruly.
- For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre;
- But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate;
- Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.

- 장로는 흠잡을 데가 없어야 하며, 한 아내의 남편이라야 하며, 그 자녀가 신자라야 하며, 방탕하다거나 순종하지 않는다는 비난을 받지 않아야 합니다.
- 감독은 하나님의 청지기로서, 흠잡을 데가 없으며, 자기 고집대로 하지 아니하며, 쉽게 성내지 아니하며, 술을 즐기지 아니하며, 폭행하지 아니하며, 부정한 이득을 탐하지 아니하는 사람이라야 합니다.
- 오히려 그는 손님을 잘 대접하며, 선행을 좋아하며, 신중하며, 의로우며, 경건하며, 자제력이 있으며,
- 신실한 말씀의 가르침을 굳게 지키는 사람이라야 합니다. 그래야 그는 건전한 교훈으로 권면하고, 반대자들을 반박할 수 있을 것입니다.
