- 지혜로운 아들딸들은 아버지의 가르침을 듣지만, 거만한 사람은 꾸지람을 듣지 않는다.
- 선한 사람은 열매 맺는 말을 하여 좋은 것을 넉넉하게 얻지만, 반역자는 폭행을 당할 뿐이다.
- 말을 조심하는 사람은 자신의 생명을 보존하지만, 입을 함부로 여는 사람은 자신을 파멸시킨다.
- 게으른 사람은 아무리 바라는 것이 있어도 얻지 못하지만, 부지런한 사람의 마음은 바라는 것을 넉넉하게 얻는다.
- 의인은 거짓말하기를 싫어하지만, 악인은 염치도 없이 수치스러운 일을 한다.

- There is that maketh himself rich, yet hath nothing: there is that maketh himself poor, yet hath great riches.
- The ransom of a man's life are his riches: but the poor heareth not rebuke.
- The light of the righteous rejoiceth: but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.

- 흠 없이 사는 사람의 의는 그의 길을 지켜 주지만, 죄인의 악은 그를 망하게 한다.
- 부자인 체하나 아무것도 없는 사람이 있는가 하면, 가난한 체하나 많은 재물을 가진 사람이 있다.
- 부유한 사람은 재물로 자기 목숨을 속하기도 하지만, 가난한 사람은 협박을 받을 일이 없다.
- 의인의 빛은 밝게 빛나지만, 악인의 등불은 꺼져 버린다.
