  1. And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him:
  2. And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying,
  3. Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
  4. Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.
  5. Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
  1. Now when he saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him,
  2. and he began to teach them saying:
  3. "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
  4. Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
  5. Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.
  1. Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
  2. Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.
  3. Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
  4. Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.
  5. Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
  1. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
  2. Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.
  3. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.
  4. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God.
  5. Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
  1. Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.
  2. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.
  3. Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.
  4. Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.
  5. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.
  1. "Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me.
  2. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
  3. "You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men.
  4. "You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden.
  5. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.
  1. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
  2. Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
  3. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
  4. Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
  5. For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.
  1. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.
  2. "Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.
  3. I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.
  4. Anyone who breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
  5. For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven.
  1. Ye have heard that it was said of them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment:
  2. But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.
  3. Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee;
  4. Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.
  5. Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison.
  1. "You have heard that it was said to the people long ago, 'Do not murder, and anyone who murders will be subject to judgment.'
  2. But I tell you that anyone who is angry with his brotherwill be subject to judgment. Again, anyone who says to his brother, 'Raca,' is answerable to the Sanhedrin. But anyone who says, 'You fool!' will be in danger of the fire of hell.
  3. "Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you,
  4. leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to your brother; then come and offer your gift.
  5. "Settle matters quickly with your adversary who is taking you to court. Do it while you are still with him on the way, or he may hand you over to the judge, and the judge may hand you over to the officer, and you may be thrown into prison.
  1. Verily I say unto thee, Thou shalt by no means come out thence, till thou hast paid the uttermost farthing.
  1. I tell you the truth, you will not get out until you have paid the last penny.
