  1. And when much people were gathered together, and were come to him out of every city, he spake by a parable:
  2. A sower went out to sow his seed: and as he sowed, some fell by the way side; and it was trodden down, and the fowls of the air devoured it.
  3. And some fell upon a rock; and as soon as it was sprung up, it withered away, because it lacked moisture.
  4. And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprang up with it, and choked it.
  5. And other fell on good ground, and sprang up, and bare fruit an hundredfold. And when he had said these things, he cried, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
  1. While a large crowd was gathering and people were coming to Jesus from town after town, he told this parable:
  2. "A farmer went out to sow his seed. As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path; it was trampled on, and the birds of the air ate it up.
  3. Some fell on rock, and when it came up, the plants withered because they had no moisture.
  4. Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up with it and choked the plants.
  5. Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up and yielded a crop, a hundred times more than was sown." When he said this, he called out, "He who has ears to hear, let him hear."
  1. And his disciples asked him, saying, What might this parable be?
  2. And he said, Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God: but to others in parables; that seeing they might not see, and hearing they might not understand.
  3. Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God.
  4. Those by the way side are they that hear; then cometh the devil, and taketh away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved.
  5. They on the rock are they, which, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away.
  1. His disciples asked him what this parable meant.
  2. He said, "The knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of God has been given to you, but to others I speak in parables, so that, " 'though seeing, they may not see; though hearing, they may not understand.'
  3. "This is the meaning of the parable: The seed is the word of God.
  4. Those along the path are the ones who hear, and then the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts, so that they may not believe and be saved.
  5. Those on the rock are the ones who receive the word with joy when they hear it, but they have no root. They believe for a while, but in the time of testing they fall away.
  1. And that which fell among thorns are they, which, when they have heard, go forth, and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection.
  2. But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience.
  3. No man, when he hath lighted a candle, covereth it with a vessel, or putteth it under a bed; but setteth it on a candlestick, that they which enter in may see the light.
  4. For nothing is secret, that shall not be made manifest; neither any thing hid, that shall not be known and come abroad.
  5. Take heed therefore how ye hear: for whosoever hath, to him shall be given; and whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he seemeth to have.
  1. The seed that fell among thorns stands for those who hear, but as they go on their way they are choked by life's worries, riches and pleasures, and they do not mature.
  2. But the seed on good soil stands for those with a noble and good heart, who hear the word, retain it, and by persevering produce a crop.
  3. "No one lights a lamp and hides it in a jar or puts it under a bed. Instead, he puts it on a stand, so that those who come in can see the light.
  4. For there is nothing hidden that will not be disclosed, and nothing concealed that will not be known or brought out into the open.
  5. Therefore consider carefully how you listen. Whoever has will be given more; whoever does not have, even what he thinks he has will be taken from him."
  1. Then came to him his mother and his brethren, and could not come at him for the press.
  2. And it was told him by certain which said, Thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to see thee.
  3. And he answered and said unto them, My mother and my brethren are these which hear the word of God, and do it.
  1. Now Jesus' mother and brothers came to see him, but they were not able to get near him because of the crowd.
  2. Someone told him, "Your mother and brothers are standing outside, wanting to see you."
  3. He replied, "My mother and brothers are those who hear God's word and put it into practice."
