  1. And they led Jesus away to the high priest: and with him were assembled all the chief priests and the elders and the scribes.
  2. And Peter followed him afar off, even into the palace of the high priest: and he sat with the servants, and warmed himself at the fire.
  3. And the chief priests and all the council sought for witness against Jesus to put him to death; and found none.
  4. For many bare false witness against him, but their witness agreed not together.
  5. And there arose certain, and bare false witness against him, saying,
  1. They led Jesus away to the high priest; and all the chief priests and the elders and the scribes gathered together.
  2. Peter had followed Him at a distance, right into the courtyard of the high priest; and he was sitting with the officers and warming himself at the fire.
  3. Now the chief priests and the whole Council kept trying to obtain testimony against Jesus to put Him to death, and they were not finding any.
  4. For many were giving false testimony against Him, but their testimony was not consistent.
  5. Some stood up and began to give false testimony against Him, saying,
  1. We heard him say, I will destroy this temple that is made with hands, and within three days I will build another made without hands.
  2. But neither so did their witness agree together.
  3. And the high priest stood up in the midst, and asked Jesus, saying, Answerest thou nothing? what is it which these witness against thee?
  4. But he held his peace, and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked him, and said unto him, Art thou the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?
  5. And Jesus said, I am: and ye shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.
  1. "We heard Him say, 'I will destroy this temple made with hands, and in three days I will build another made without hands.'"
  2. Not even in this respect was their testimony consistent.
  3. The high priest stood up and came forward and questioned Jesus, saying, "Do You not answer? What is it that these men are testifying against You?"
  4. But He kept silent and did not answer Again the high priest was questioning Him, and saying to Him, "Are You the Christ, the Son of the Blessed One?"
  5. And Jesus said, "I am; and you shall see THE SON OF MAN SITTING AT THE RIGHT HAND OF POWER, and COMING WITH THE CLOUDS OF HEAVEN."
  1. Then the high priest rent his clothes, and saith, What need we any further witnesses?
  2. Ye have heard the blasphemy: what think ye? And they all condemned him to be guilty of death.
  3. And some began to spit on him, and to cover his face, and to buffet him, and to say unto him, Prophesy: and the servants did strike him with the palms of their hands.
  4. And as Peter was beneath in the palace, there cometh one of the maids of the high priest:
  5. And when she saw Peter warming himself, she looked upon him, and said, And thou also wast with Jesus of Nazareth.
  1. Tearing his clothes, the high priest said, "What further need do we have of witnesses?
  2. "You have heard the blasphemy; how does it seem to you?" And they all condemned Him to be deserving of death.
  3. Some began to spit at Him, and to blindfold Him, and to beat Him with their fists, and to say to Him, "Prophesy!" And the officers received Him with slaps in the face.
  4. As Peter was below in the courtyard, one of the servant-girls of the high priest came,
  5. and seeing Peter warming himself, she looked at him and said, "You also were with Jesus the Nazarene."
  1. But he denied, saying, I know not, neither understand I what thou sayest. And he went out into the porch; and the cock crew.
  2. And a maid saw him again, and began to say to them that stood by, This is one of them.
  3. And he denied it again. And a little after, they that stood by said again to Peter, Surely thou art one of them: for thou art a Galilaean, and thy speech agreeth thereto.
  4. But he began to curse and to swear, saying, I know not this man of whom ye speak.
  5. And the second time the cock crew. And Peter called to mind the word that Jesus said unto him, Before the cock crow twice, thou shalt deny me thrice. And when he thought thereon, he wept.
  1. But he denied it, saying, "I neither know nor understand what you are talking about." And he went out onto the porch.
  2. The servant-girl saw him, and began once more to say to the bystanders, "This is one of them!"
  3. But again he denied it And after a little while the bystanders were again saying to Peter, "Surely you are one of them, for you are a Galilean too."
  4. But he began to curse and swear, "I do not know this man you are talking about!"
  5. Immediately a rooster crowed a second time. And Peter remembered how Jesus had made the remark to him, "Before a rooster crows twice, you will deny Me three times." And he began to weep.
