  1. And Moses went out, and told the people the words of the LORD, and gathered the seventy men of the elders of the people, and set them round about the tabernacle.
  2. And the LORD came down in a cloud, and spake unto him, and took of the spirit that was upon him, and gave it unto the seventy elders: and it came to pass, that, when the spirit rested upon them, they prophesied, and did not cease.
  3. But there remained two of the men in the camp, the name of the one was Eldad, and the name of the other Medad: and the spirit rested upon them; and they were of them that were written, but went not out unto the tabernacle: and they prophesied in the camp.
  4. And there ran a young man, and told Moses, and said, Eldad and Medad do prophesy in the camp.
  5. And Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of Moses, one of his young men, answered and said, My lord Moses, forbid them.
  1. So Moses went out and told the people the words of the LORD. Also, he gathered seventy men of the elders of the people, and stationed them around the tent.
  2. Then the LORD came down in the cloud and spoke to him; and He took of the Spirit who was upon him and placed Him upon the seventy elders. And when the Spirit rested upon them, they prophesied. But they did not do it again.
  3. But two men had remained in the camp; the name of one was Eldad and the name of the other Medad. And the Spirit rested upon them (now they were among those who had been registered, but had not gone out to the tent), and they prophesied in the camp.
  4. So a young man ran and told Moses and said, "Eldad and Medad are prophesying in the camp."
  5. Then Joshua the son of Nun, the attendant of Moses from his youth, said, "Moses, my lord, restrain them."
  1. And Moses said unto him, Enviest thou for my sake? would God that all the LORD's people were prophets, and that the LORD would put his spirit upon them!
  2. And Moses gat him into the camp, he and the elders of Israel.
  3. And there went forth a wind from the LORD, and brought quails from the sea, and let them fall by the camp, as it were a day's journey on this side, and as it were a day's journey on the other side, round about the camp, and as it were two cubits high upon the face of the earth.
  4. And the people stood up all that day, and all that night, and all the next day, and they gathered the quails: he that gathered least gathered ten homers: and they spread them all abroad for themselves round about the camp.
  5. And while the flesh was yet between their teeth, ere it was chewed, the wrath of the LORD was kindled against the people, and the LORD smote the people with a very great plague.
  1. But Moses said to him, "Are you jealous for my sake? Would that all the LORD'S people were prophets, that the LORD would put His Spirit upon them!"
  2. Then Moses returned to the camp, both he and the elders of Israel.
  3. Now there went forth a wind from the LORD and it brought quail from the sea, and let them fall beside the camp, about a day's journey on this side and a day's journey on the other side, all around the camp and about two cubits deep on the surface of the ground.
  4. The people spent all day and all night and all the next day, and gathered the quail (he who gathered least gathered ten homers) and they spread them out for themselves all around the camp.
  5. While the meat was still between their teeth, before it was chewed, the anger of the LORD was kindled against the people, and the LORD struck the people with a very severe plague.
  1. And he called the name of that place Kibrothhattaavah: because there they buried the people that lusted.
  2. And the people journeyed from Kibrothhattaavah unto Hazeroth; and abode at Hazeroth.
  1. So the name of that place was called Kibroth-hattaavah, because there they buried the people who had been greedy.
  2. From Kibroth-hattaavah the people set out for Hazeroth, and they remained at Hazeroth.

  1. And Miriam and Aaron spake against Moses because of the Ethiopian woman whom he had married: for he had married an Ethiopian woman.
  2. And they said, Hath the LORD indeed spoken only by Moses? hath he not spoken also by us? And the LORD heard it.
  3. (Now the man Moses was very meek, above all the men which were upon the face of the earth.)
  4. And the LORD spake suddenly unto Moses, and unto Aaron, and unto Miriam, Come out ye three unto the tabernacle of the congregation. And they three came out.
  5. And the LORD came down in the pillar of the cloud, and stood in the door of the tabernacle, and called Aaron and Miriam: and they both came forth.
  1. Then Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses because of the Cushite woman whom he had married (for he had married a Cushite woman);
  2. and they said, "Has the LORD indeed spoken only through Moses? Has He not spoken through us as well?" And the LORD heard it.
  3. (Now the man Moses was very humble, more than any man who was on the face of the earth.)
  4. Suddenly the LORD said to Moses and Aaron and to Miriam, "You three come out to the tent of meeting." So the three of them came out.
  5. Then the LORD came down in a pillar of cloud and stood at the doorway of the tent, and He called Aaron and Miriam. When they had both come forward,
  1. And he said, Hear now my words: If there be a prophet among you, I the LORD will make myself known unto him in a vision, and will speak unto him in a dream.
  2. My servant Moses is not so, who is faithful in all mine house.
  3. With him will I speak mouth to mouth, even apparently, and not in dark speeches; and the similitude of the LORD shall he behold: wherefore then were ye not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?
  4. And the anger of the LORD was kindled against them; and he departed.
  5. And the cloud departed from off the tabernacle; and, behold, Miriam became leprous, white as snow: and Aaron looked upon Miriam, and, behold, she was leprous.
  1. He said, "Hear now My words: If there is a prophet among you, I, the LORD, shall make Myself known to him in a vision I shall speak with him in a dream.
  2. "Not so, with My servant Moses, He is faithful in all My household;
  3. With him I speak mouth to mouth, Even openly, and not in dark sayings, And he beholds the form of the LORD. Why then were you not afraid To speak against My servant, against Moses?"
  4. So the anger of the LORD burned against them and He departed.
  5. But when the cloud had withdrawn from over the tent, behold, Miriam was leprous, as white as snow. As Aaron turned toward Miriam, behold, she was leprous.
  1. And Aaron said unto Moses, Alas, my lord, I beseech thee, lay not the sin upon us, wherein we have done foolishly, and wherein we have sinned.
  2. Let her not be as one dead, of whom the flesh is half consumed when he cometh out of his mother's womb.
  3. And Moses cried unto the LORD, saying, Heal her now, O God, I beseech thee.
  4. And the LORD said unto Moses, If her father had but spit in her face, should she not be ashamed seven days? let her be shut out from the camp seven days, and after that let her be received in again.
  5. And Miriam was shut out from the camp seven days: and the people journeyed not till Miriam was brought in again.
  1. Then Aaron said to Moses, "Oh, my lord, I beg you, do not account this sin to us, in which we have acted foolishly and in which we have sinned.
  2. "Oh, do not let her be like one dead, whose flesh is half eaten away when he comes from his mother's womb!"
  3. Moses cried out to the LORD, saying, "O God, heal her, I pray!"
  4. But the LORD said to Moses, "If her father had but spit in her face, would she not bear her shame for seven days? Let her be shut up for seven days outside the camp, and afterward she may be received again."
  5. So Miriam was shut up outside the camp for seven days, and the people did not move on until Miriam was received again.
  1. And afterward the people removed from Hazeroth, and pitched in the wilderness of Paran.
  1. Afterward, however, the people moved out from Hazeroth and camped in the wilderness of Paran.

  1. And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
  2. Send thou men, that they may search the land of Canaan, which I give unto the children of Israel: of every tribe of their fathers shall ye send a man, every one a ruler among them.
  3. And Moses by the commandment of the LORD sent them from the wilderness of Paran: all those men were heads of the children of Israel.
  4. And these were their names: of the tribe of Reuben, Shammua the son of Zaccur.
  5. Of the tribe of Simeon, Shaphat the son of Hori.
  1. Then the LORD spoke to Moses saying,
  2. "Send out for yourself men so that they may spy out the land of Canaan, which I am going to give to the sons of Israel; you shall send a man from each of their fathers' tribes, every one a leader among them."
  3. So Moses sent them from the wilderness of Paran at the command of the LORD, all of them men who were heads of the sons of Israel.
  4. These then were their names: from the tribe of Reuben, Shammua the son of Zaccur;
  5. from the tribe of Simeon, Shaphat the son of Hori;
  1. Of the tribe of Judah, Caleb the son of Jephunneh.
  2. Of the tribe of Issachar, Igal the son of Joseph.
  3. Of the tribe of Ephraim, Oshea the son of Nun.
  4. Of the tribe of Benjamin, Palti the son of Raphu.
  5. Of the tribe of Zebulun, Gaddiel the son of Sodi.
  1. from the tribe of Judah, Caleb the son of Jephunneh;
  2. from the tribe of Issachar, Igal the son of Joseph;
  3. from the tribe of Ephraim, Hoshea the son of Nun;
  4. from the tribe of Benjamin, Palti the son of Raphu;
  5. from the tribe of Zebulun, Gaddiel the son of Sodi;
  1. Of the tribe of Joseph, namely, of the tribe of Manasseh, Gaddi the son of Susi.
  2. Of the tribe of Dan, Ammiel the son of Gemalli.
  3. Of the tribe of Asher, Sethur the son of Michael.
  4. Of the tribe of Naphtali, Nahbi the son of Vophsi.
  5. Of the tribe of Gad, Geuel the son of Machi.
  1. from the tribe of Joseph, from the tribe of Manasseh, Gaddi the son of Susi;
  2. from the tribe of Dan, Ammiel the son of Gemalli;
  3. from the tribe of Asher, Sethur the son of Michael;
  4. from the tribe of Naphtali, Nahbi the son of Vophsi;
  5. from the tribe of Gad, Geuel the son of Machi.
  1. These are the names of the men which Moses sent to spy out the land. And Moses called Oshea the son of Nun Jehoshua.
  2. And Moses sent them to spy out the land of Canaan, and said unto them, Get you up this way southward, and go up into the mountain:
  3. And see the land, what it is, and the people that dwelleth therein, whether they be strong or weak, few or many;
  4. And what the land is that they dwell in, whether it be good or bad; and what cities they be that they dwell in, whether in tents, or in strong holds;
  5. And what the land is, whether it be fat or lean, whether there be wood therein, or not. And be ye of good courage, and bring of the fruit of the land. Now the time was the time of the firstripe grapes.
  1. These are the names of the men whom Moses sent to spy out the land; but Moses called Hoshea the son of Nun, Joshua.
  2. When Moses sent them to spy out the land of Canaan, he said to them, "Go up there into the Negev; then go up into the hill country.
  3. "See what the land is like, and whether the people who live in it are strong or weak, whether they are few or many.
  4. "How is the land in which they live, is it good or bad? And how are the cities in which they live, are they like open camps or with fortifications?
  5. "How is the land, is it fat or lean? Are there trees in it or not? Make an effort then to get some of the fruit of the land." Now the time was the time of the first ripe grapes.
  1. So they went up, and searched the land from the wilderness of Zin unto Rehob, as men come to Hamath.
  2. And they ascended by the south, and came unto Hebron; where Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, the children of Anak, were. (Now Hebron was built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.)
  3. And they came unto the brook of Eshcol, and cut down from thence a branch with one cluster of grapes, and they bare it between two upon a staff; and they brought of the pomegranates, and of the figs.
  4. The place was called the brook Eshcol, because of the cluster of grapes which the children of Israel cut down from thence.
  5. And they returned from searching of the land after forty days.
  1. So they went up and spied out the land from the wilderness of Zin as far as Rehob, at Lebo-hamath.
  2. When they had gone up into the Negev, they came to Hebron where Ahiman, Sheshai and Talmai, the descendants of Anak were (Now Hebron was built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.)
  3. Then they came to the valley of Eshcol and from there cut down a branch with a single cluster of grapes; and they carried it on a pole between two men, with some of the pomegranates and the figs.
  4. That place was called the valley of Eshcol, because of the cluster which the sons of Israel cut down from there.
  5. When they returned from spying out the land, at the end of forty days,
  1. And they went and came to Moses, and to Aaron, and to all the congregation of the children of Israel, unto the wilderness of Paran, to Kadesh; and brought back word unto them, and unto all the congregation, and shewed them the fruit of the land.
  2. And they told him, and said, We came unto the land whither thou sentest us, and surely it floweth with milk and honey; and this is the fruit of it.
  3. Nevertheless the people be strong that dwell in the land, and the cities are walled, and very great: and moreover we saw the children of Anak there.
  4. The Amalekites dwell in the land of the south: and the Hittites, and the Jebusites, and the Amorites, dwell in the mountains: and the Canaanites dwell by the sea, and by the coast of Jordan.
  5. And Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it.
  1. they proceeded to come to Moses and Aaron and to all the congregation of the sons of Israel in the wilderness of Paran, at Kadesh; and they brought back word to them and to all the congregation and showed them the fruit of the land.
  2. Thus they told him, and said, "We went in to the land where you sent us; and it certainly does flow with milk and honey, and this is its fruit.
  3. "Nevertheless, the people who live in the land are strong, and the cities are fortified and very large; and moreover, we saw the descendants of Anak there.
  4. "Amalek is living in the land of the Negev and the Hittites and the Jebusites and the Amorites are living in the hill country, and the Canaanites are living by the sea and by the side of the Jordan."
  5. Then Caleb quieted the people before Moses and said, "We should by all means go up and take possession of it, for we will surely overcome it."
  1. But the men that went up with him said, We be not able to go up against the people; for they are stronger than we.
  2. And they brought up an evil report of the land which they had searched unto the children of Israel, saying, The land, through which we have gone to search it, is a land that eateth up the inhabitants thereof; and all the people that we saw in it are men of a great stature.
  3. And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.
  1. But the men who had gone up with him said, "We are not able to go up against the people, for they are too strong for us."
  2. So they gave out to the sons of Israel a bad report of the land which they had spied out, saying, "The land through which we have gone, in spying it out, is a land that devours its inhabitants; and all the people whom we saw in it are men of great size.
  3. "There also we saw the Nephilim (the sons of Anak are part of the Nephilim); and we became like grasshoppers in our own sight, and so we were in their sight."
