  1. And he was casting out a devil, and it was dumb. And it came to pass, when the devil was gone out, the dumb spake; and the people wondered.
  2. But some of them said, He casteth out devils through Beelzebub the chief of the devils.
  3. And others, tempting him, sought of him a sign from heaven.
  4. But he, knowing their thoughts, said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and a house divided against a house falleth.
  5. If Satan also be divided against himself, how shall his kingdom stand? because ye say that I cast out devils through Beelzebub.
  1. And He was casting out a demon, and it was mute; when the demon had gone out, the mute man spoke; and the crowds were amazed.
  2. But some of them said, "He casts out demons by Beelzebul, the ruler of the demons."
  3. Others, to test Him, were demanding of Him a sign from heaven.
  4. But He knew their thoughts and said to them, "Any kingdom divided against itself is laid waste; and a house divided against itself falls.
  5. "If Satan also is divided against himself, how will his kingdom stand? For you say that I cast out demons by Beelzebul.
  1. And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your sons cast them out? therefore shall they be your judges.
  2. But if I with the finger of God cast out devils, no doubt the kingdom of God is come upon you.
  3. When a strong man armed keepeth his palace, his goods are in peace:
  4. But when a stronger than he shall come upon him, and overcome him, he taketh from him all his armour wherein he trusted, and divideth his spoils.
  5. He that is not with me is against me: and he that gathereth not with me scattereth.
  1. "And if I by Beelzebul cast out demons, by whom do your sons cast them out? So they will be your judges.
  2. "But if I cast out demons by the finger of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you.
  3. "When a strong man, fully armed, guards his own house, his possessions are undisturbed.
  4. "But when someone stronger than he attacks him and overpowers him, he takes away from him all his armor on which he had relied and distributes his plunder.
  5. "He who is not with Me is against Me; and he who does not gather with Me, scatters.
  1. When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest; and finding none, he saith, I will return unto my house whence I came out.
  2. And when he cometh, he findeth it swept and garnished.
  3. Then goeth he, and taketh to him seven other spirits more wicked than himself; and they enter in, and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first.
  4. And it came to pass, as he spake these things, a certain woman of the company lifted up her voice, and said unto him, Blessed is the womb that bare thee, and the paps which thou hast sucked.
  5. But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.
  1. "When the unclean spirit goes out of a man, it passes through waterless places seeking rest, and not finding any, it says, 'I will return to my house from which I came.'
  2. "And when it comes, it finds it swept and put in order.
  3. "Then it goes and takes along seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they go in and live there; and the last state of that man becomes worse than the first."
  4. While Jesus was saying these things, one of the women in the crowd raised her voice and said to Him, "Blessed is the womb that bore You and the breasts at which You nursed."
  5. But He said, "On the contrary, blessed are those who hear the word of God and observe it."
  1. And when the people were gathered thick together, he began to say, This is an evil generation: they seek a sign; and there shall no sign be given it, but the sign of Jonas the prophet.
  2. For as Jonas was a sign unto the Ninevites, so shall also the Son of man be to this generation.
  3. The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with the men of this generation, and condemn them: for she came from the utmost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here.
  4. The men of Nineve shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and, behold, a greater than Jonas is here.
  5. No man, when he hath lighted a candle, putteth it in a secret place, neither under a bushel, but on a candlestick, that they which come in may see the light.
  1. As the crowds were increasing, He began to say, "This generation is a wicked generation; it seeks for a sign, and yet no sign will be given to it but the sign of Jonah.
  2. "For just as Jonah became a sign to the Ninevites, so will the Son of Man be to this generation.
  3. "The Queen of the South will rise up with the men of this generation at the judgment and condemn them, because she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and behold, something greater than Solomon is here.
  4. "The men of Nineveh will stand up with this generation at the judgment and condemn it, because they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and behold, something greater than Jonah is here.
  5. "No one, after lighting a lamp, puts it away in a cellar nor under a basket, but on the lampstand, so that those who enter may see the light.
  1. The light of the body is the eye: therefore when thine eye is single, thy whole body also is full of light; but when thine eye is evil, thy body also is full of darkness.
  2. Take heed therefore that the light which is in thee be not darkness.
  3. If thy whole body therefore be full of light, having no part dark, the whole shall be full of light, as when the bright shining of a candle doth give thee light.
  1. "The eye is the lamp of your body; when your eye is clear, your whole body also is full of light; but when it is bad, your body also is full of darkness.
  2. "Then watch out that the light in you is not darkness.
  3. "If therefore your whole body is full of light, with no dark part in it, it will be wholly illumined, as when the lamp illumines you with its rays."
