  1. And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;
  2. Saying, There was in a city a judge, which feared not God, neither regarded man:
  3. And there was a widow in that city; and she came unto him, saying, Avenge me of mine adversary.
  4. And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man;
  5. Yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me.
  1. Now He was telling them a parable to show that at all times they ought to pray and not to lose heart,
  2. saying, "In a certain city there was a judge who did not fear God and did not respect man.
  3. "There was a widow in that city, and she kept coming to him, saying, 'Give me legal protection from my opponent.'
  4. "For a while he was unwilling; but afterward he said to himself, 'Even though I do not fear God nor respect man,
  5. yet because this widow bothers me, I will give her legal protection, otherwise by continually coming she will wear me out.'"
  1. And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge saith.
  2. And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them?
  3. I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?
  4. And he spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others:
  5. Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican.
  1. And the Lord said, "Hear what the unrighteous judge said;
  2. now, will not God bring about justice for His elect who cry to Him day and night, and will He delay long over them?
  3. "I tell you that He will bring about justice for them quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on the earth?"
  4. And He also told this parable to some people who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and viewed others with contempt:
  5. "Two men went up into the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector.
  1. The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.
  2. I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.
  3. And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.
  4. I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.
  5. And they brought unto him also infants, that he would touch them: but when his disciples saw it, they rebuked them.
  1. "The Pharisee stood and was praying this to himself: 'God, I thank You that I am not like other people: swindlers, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector.
  2. 'I fast twice a week; I pay tithes of all that I get.'
  3. "But the tax collector, standing some distance away, was even unwilling to lift up his eyes to heaven, but was beating his breast, saying, 'God, be merciful to me, the sinner!'
  4. "I tell you, this man went to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted."
  5. And they were bringing even their babies to Him so that He would touch them, but when the disciples saw it, they began rebuking them.
  1. But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.
  2. Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child shall in no wise enter therein.
  1. But Jesus called for them, saying, "Permit the children to come to Me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.
  2. "Truly I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child will not enter it at all."
